Copying from the article in the Sri Lanka terrorist attacks thread:
Terror Trail-V: The politics of abduction in Kashmir (IANS Exclusive)

The bleed India strategy has been predicated on keeping the pot boiling as nearly 700,000 Indian troops and paramilitary forces are at hyper vigil in Kashmir at very low cost to Pakistan, ensuring enormous expenditure to keep our military and polity bogged down.
As long as this strategy and situation remains in place, India should not let up it's offensive on the border.

Why the hell does the DDM keep accepting the paki lies of 700,000 troops and paramilitary? Shit! It might as well be 7 billion.

Also all security personnel in J&K must have voting rights in local elections. The J&K govt must do more in ensuring that high quality civic services are made available to all citizens not just Valley residents

What ISI/TSPA will do is to escalate through increase supply of lethality to terror groups in valley - like armoured piercing bullets and mount attacks against security forces/bases.

What GoI will be doing is to wait and watch post passes melting. In my view GoI has to sustain the pressure until TSPA gives up terror completely.

All this is part of the direct covert negotiations at NSA level

Over 2,500 bunkers constructed along LoC, IB in Jammu this year so far,

Over 2,500 bunkers have been constructed along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu region this year so far, official said Saturday.

Jammu Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma held a meeting with deputy commissioners of border districts to review progress of the construction of bunkers along the IB in Jammu division.

Do they need the SSG and additional troops in Afghanistan or Baluchistan or KP?

When the LOC heated up a year or two ago, i believe the PA had transferred troops from KP. In general XI Corp Peshawar has 2 Inf Divs. However there was a time when 2 more divs were added to it- 37 from I Corp and 19 from 10 Corp.

Bhai Chara of eastern frontier may have downed if they need them somewhere else.

Offcourse it is also possible Bhai Chara has been beaten into them ;-)

In troubled waters: 10 Chinese vessels found fishing illegally in Maharashtra,

Ten Chinese fishing vessels, which sought “emergency shelter” in Ratnagiri in Maharashtra during Cyclone Vayu, are under the Centre’s scanner for allegedly fishing illegally in Indian waters . The investigation into the case began on Monday, and more than 200 crew members on board are being called for questioning to decide the course of action.

According to the Indian authorities, the boats belong to the Fu Yuan Yu fleet, owned by Dongxinglong Ocean Fishing Company Ltd, based in Fu Zhou, Fujian province in China, and had entered the Indian waters on June 7, after taking permission from the Indian Coast Guard. However, on June 9, local fishermen complained that they were involved in fishing activities. “Shelter can’t be denied during cyclone emergencies like Cyclone Vayu. Using this opportunity, the 10 vessels got involved in illegal operations within India’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) – coastal waters where a country can claim exclusive rights for fishing and other economic activities,” said a senior official from the department of fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. “The matter is being investigated through agencies and the Coast Guard. Deterrent action will be taken against all 10 vessels under violations of the Maritime Zones of India (Regulation) of Fishing by Foreign Vessels Act, 1981.”

The Indian Coast Guard said two boats have been brought to the Dabhol creek for further investigation, while the remaining eight vessels are anchored two nautical miles off the coast. These were the only trawlers fishing, amid the monsoon restriction. Ten vessels can fish around 80,000 tonnes of marine life in a month.

Ganesh B Nakhawa, chairman, National Purse Seine Fishermen Welfare Association, said the boats are equipped with 500,000 KW of LED lights for purse seine, squid jigging and pelagic trawling. “The fleet also has other damaging illegal gear on board such as drifting gill nets, bottom trawl nets and dolphin attracting devices etc. Such vessels are banned worldwide by many fisheries commission and are under investigation of many international agencies,” he said.

“The crew hails from Indonesia, Philippines and China. Of the 37 crew members of the two vessels who were questioned, the passports of 19 have expired. These vessels are depleting the Indian EEZ of important fish such as tuna, marlins, squids, mackerels and also causing damage to the ecology by targeting protected marine species such as sharks, turtles and dolphins.” Rajendra Jadhav, joint commissioner, Maharashtra fisheries department, said, “After confirming the Chinese trawlers were carrying out fishing activity in EEZ off the Maharashtra coast, we wrote a detailed letter to the Centre. The Centre further directed all agencies to take action. The fishermen said they had come for shelter, but fishing in EEZ area is illegal for international vessels. We are keeping a close watch on them.”

An Indian Coast Guard official said, “Apart from just fishery related violations, we are investigating the nationality of these fishermen, their documents, proper customs clearance and other suspected threats.”

HT has a copy of letters issued by the Centre and Intelligence Bureau ordering a probe, Fu Yuan Yu vessels have been named in illegal fishing cases in the past.According to the illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) Risk Intelligence, these vessels have been involved in illegal fishing for tuna in the southern Indian Ocean and South African waters in 2016. “Very little is known about the Chinese company, its ownership, management, movements and activities of the “Fu Yuan Yu” fleet in the high seas,” read a report by IUU Risk Intelligence from May 29, 2016.

Meanwhile, HT found the Chinese company that owns the vessels did not have a website or a functional telephone number listed on international data portals with details of the vessels.

Bangladeshi cattle smugglers maim BSF constable Anisur Rehman with crude bomb, jawan loses right arm.

The smugglers were armed to the teeth with country-made bombs, dahas, hasia, sticks and high-beam torches. The vigilant BSF troops intercepted and them as they looked to take cattle into Bangladesh with the support of Indian accomplices, said the agency.

When intercepted by BSF troops on the International Boundary, the smugglers encircled BSF constable Anisur Rehman and lobbed a powerful country-made bomb towards him which exploded nearby.

Constable Rehman, the agency said, displayed the highest level of valour and conviction towards his duty to not allow the smugglers to escape and fired at them with his non-lethal PAG gun.(WTF, We might as well leave the border completely open or just arm the BSF soldiers with flowers.)

Subsequently, the smugglers lobbed another country-made bomb towards him which exploded near his right hand. A bicycle nearby was also damaged and many pellets pierced Constable Rehman’s body.

During the incident, BSF troops from nearby ambushes rushed to the spot and found their comrade unconscious and grievously wounded. The smugglers managed to escape but left the cattle (most certainly Cows) behind.

Constable Anisur Rahman was immediately evacuated to Government Hospital Bangaon and was then shifted for specialised treatment to Medica Hospital, Kolkata. Unfortunately, his right hand had to be amputated. One Bangladeshi smuggler also sustained injuries while he fled, reports suggested.

Inspector General, South Bengal Frontier Y B Khurania took a very serious view of the incident and has directed all field formations under his command to keep adopting aggressive postures against trans-border criminals and those active on the Indo-Bangladesh Border.

BSF is also lodging a strong protest with their counterparts in the Border Guards Bangladesh to rein in the trans-border criminals.

PAG = Pump Action (Shot)Gun. Pretty lethal under the right circumstances but lacks range. Police forces across India have been armed with it. Famously known as Pellet Guns in J&K.

Water robots to help BSF access difficult riverine stretches
extracts
Border Security Force (BSF) is procuring remotely operated water surveillance crafts to patrol and search riverine areas along the international borders that are difficult to access on foot or by conventional patrol boats
and
“We have projected an immediate requirement of 14 such systems that can be deployed to carry out routine surveillance or searches in weed-infested areas, narrow cervices and shallow waters that can make ideal hiding spots for smugglers or infiltrators but are difficult to patrol,” a BSF officer said.

Also referred to as “water robots”, the system will consist of a small powered vessel equipped with day-and-night cameras as well as other sensors capable of detecting human presence or objects and transmit the images to the controllers.

Besides providing better access to sensitive spots, there is also a safety angle involved as water robots would provide early warning to BSF patrols about the presence of an adversary and prevent any ambushes or unexpected encounters.

According to sources, the BSF requires systems that have an operating range of at least 500 metres on the water surface and can be deployed by a two-man crew operating from a mother boat or the river bank.

I am wondering about why the Pakistani Army Aviation Electronic surveillance Aircraft(1 of only 2 of that type) trying to make an emergency landing at 2:40 AM - it cant be a routine flight at that time, the LOC at Rajouri is about ~100km from the Airfield at Rawalpindi and crash, seems there is some links between the flare and Pakistani aircraft- thats why there was a blackout on type of aircraft etc for nearly a day.

It would have been precisely this type of aircraft which identified targets, vulnerabilities, where the Indian radars are located for the PAF Feb 27 attack, Pakis lost a good asset.

The LoC has been pretty hot for last one week. India has retaliated back strongly to pak's killing of Indian soldier. Also shelled the dam project in Muzzafarbad, apparently damaging two gates (pakis accepted project was shelled & 50 chinese working there evacuated, but claim no damage to gates).

Now, India has killed 7 BAT/terrorists , bodies lying on Indian side of LoC and bodies can't be picked up due to heavy firing going on.

J&K: Indian Army Foils Pakistan BAT's Infiltration Attempt, 7 Members Eliminated.
The Army also said that four bodies of possibly Pak SSG Commandoes or terrorists have been seen on Indian side of LoC, in close proximity of posts. The search operations and attempts to recover bodies are being continuously interfered by Pakistan troops deployed in the area.

i dont think 155 mm shells can substantially damage the civil structure of the dam..though it can flatten things like power house, transmission lines living quarters etc which are in the open... and thus cause considerable delay.

I think this is where we will see the excalibur rounds shine, taking out specific buildings based on intelligence, one hopes it does not come with restrictive end use agreement.

Its not intended to damage the dam. The kill radius of a 155mm shell in 75 meters (wound radius is more). It would not be possible for anyone to work in the open at the dam site if there is a danger of shelling. Apart from that, transmission lines and the power house can be hit, which will cripple the dam as effectively as structural damage.

Hi Aditya ... you are surely toying now.... given their behaviour we can expect something strategically brilliant from them ?
I do not think they ever saw this coming....

Please give me 3 weeks as they call every meeting and prepare scripts for IK to speak the spoken and threaten the threatening stuff.
All bluster.

They are not strategic but evil and terror like. Yes at worse prepare for bloody, fidayeen attacks and possible riot of civil war like situ in Srinagar.

Unrelated to Pakistan, but I have been watching flight radar24 since Balakot, not one flight i have seen to Nyingchi Mainling Airport, all the flights TIbet to CHina are from Shigatse or Lhasa Airport. Paro in Bhutan is a far more busier AIrport that Nyingchi Mainling.

What is being commonly referred to as SSG commandoes, could possibly be terrorists with the 'Daura-e-Khas' training -- terrorists trained to SSG level and kitted out with same gear. Given the kind of bashing that Pakis are now regularly getting, they will definitely not risk sending regular commandoes to be gun fodder. BAT is now almost become Border Atmahatya Team.

BAT was more evenly balanced during Raheel's tenure. He loved it and unleashed them no one else. It can probably be speculated that due to other commitments and a more pragmatic Bajwa the mix in BAT is skewed back in the Fidayeen or Terrorists ratio.

This, in a nutshell, is all that TSP have trapped themselves into have edging the propaganda war after Feb-27. IK's trip to DC has only lulled them into believing that only propaganda matters. Unfortunately for them Modi believes in action on ground more than anything.

India has been ready since 3 August/Saturday when they started sending CAPF and RR has been removed from CI tasks. IAF has been flying patrols and IN is out at sea.

So let them try.

I think it is worth reminding everyone that the Rafales will not "arrive" (in the sense of physical presence in India) until roughly May/June of 2020. The physical delivery of these aircraft will be to IAF officers in France. They will stay in France for training until next year. Then, and only then, will they arrive in India; and their numbers will be small -- 4 or fewer. I doubt that will be sufficient to influence the outcome of a (potential) war (but of course, that is just my assessment).
