“The United Kingdom is in no position to bluff against China, and force China to kowtow to Britain.”

Victor Gao, who worked for China on the UK’s handover of Hong Kong, says the UK must treat China with “respect”.

the comments could not be better

" The Chinese and most of Asia view Europe like an old peoples home with the encumbents waiting for the end talking nonsense and arguing about old scores, and Britain is the old dowager duchess in the corner who occassionally breaks wind and stinks the place out. CBI Economics
@CBI_Economics
Q2 UK #GDP surprised to the downside, with the economy contracting by 0.2% (following growth of 0.5% in Q1). The fall in output was primarily driven by an unwinding of Brexit-related stockpiling activities
@ONS
The UK economy shrunk in the second quarter of this year as GDP fell by 0.2% between April and June, according to official figures.

Slightly older article, apologize if already posted:
https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... deal-fears
Brexit: UK economy may be shrinking on back of no-deal fears
Dominant service sector came close to standstill in June, according to IHS Markit/Cips
The UK economy has suffered its first quarterly contraction in seven years, a closely watched survey suggests, as the looming threat of a no-deal Brexit paralyses business activity. Growth in the UK’s dominant services sector came to a near standstill in June, confirming a gloomy outlook for a month in which the manufacturing and construction industries plunged into reverse.
The figures indicate that the British economy contracted by about 0.1% in the three months to June, according to IHS Markit and the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (Cips), which compiles the monthly survey. Sounding alarm bells over the health of the economy before Britain is scheduled to leave the EU by 31 October, failure to rebound in the third quarter would mean the country sliding into a recession before Brexit.
Growth is forecast to be -0.1% in the second quarter of 2019 The latest snapshot revealed subdued activity in the sector forming the backbone of the British economy, which includes finance, transport and telecommunications, in a survey of 650 services firms that is closely monitored by the Treasury and the Bank of England. The service sector accounts for about four-fifths of the UK economy. It comes after Threadneedle Street warned that a temporary boost to the economy from stockpiling in the run-up to the original 29 March Brexit deadline – when companies rushed to make goods and buy raw materials – was beginning to fade, just as economic growth around the world slows. The Bank recently forecast zero growth in the second quarter.

The United Kingdom has invaded all but 22 countries of the world, so if that historical atrocity vanishes from the map, I will not be saddened.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/965 ... bourg.html
The analysis of the histories of the almost 200 countries in the world found only 22 which have never experienced an invasion by the British.

India should float a balloon.

Here is a template.

Africa
Kenya’s Pokomo people ask the British to return what was stolen: Their source of power

.................

“Our legend has it that it sounds like a lion’s roar,” said His Majesty Makorani-a-Mungase VII, the current Pokomo king and the descendant of a dynasty he claims goes back more than a dozen generations. “It forced everyone to listen. It was alive.”

That drum, the ngadji, the source of power and pride for the Pokomo, has been relegated to a storage room in the British Museum in London for 111 years.

The theft of the ngadji by British colonial officers is a story well-known among the eldest Pokomo. The British Museum, too, acknowledges the ngadji was “confiscated” before being donated to its collections in 1908. The museum also acknowledges a request by the Pokomo community for its return.

...................
English.

What is "theft" to the subject is "confiscated" to the ruler.

And, I recall that no two words in the English language mean the same - so I was told by my Teachers.

So, what gives?

The British.

BTW, that article is from the WaPost, AUGUST 9, 2019.

Rony wrote: As per the link i provided, in 2015, 49% of British - Indians voted Conservative . As per your link, in 2017, 40% voted conservative. Taken together, it appears that British-Indian support to Conservatives dropped 9 points from 2015 to 2017 from 49% to 40%. It would be interesting to analyse the reasons for that. But still the trend of British-Indians moving towards Conservatives from Labour is clear as the report you quoted says.

One minority group did noticeably increase its support for the Conservatives in both 2017 and 2015 – British Indians, and Hindus in particular. From 30% in 2010, the Conservatives share of the votes of British Indians went up to 40% in 2017. This increase is steady across elections, supporting the idea that it is built on underlying demographic changes combined with sustained campaigning by the Conservatives. Hindus are the ethnic minority group that most fits the stylised story of generational political change in Britain. As this electorate is increasingly made up of the UK-born children of immigrants, rather than their parents, who faced more discrimination on arrival and tend to be employed in working-class occupations, Hindu voters have become more similar to right-wing white voters: more middle-class, more suburban, wealthier. The fact that this demographic story applies to other minority groups too, however, suggests that it is also the campaigning and policy choices of parties that are driving this relationship
.
Depends on whom you ask. Many Hindus in the city I live in (and its a small number relatively speaking) voted for Brexit party during the EU elections. Some of these Hindus are from Malaysia, some from Mauritius and some from India itself. Surprisingly, many of the Gujarati folk did not even know who Priti Patel was! Proving many Hindus are not that politically savvy and mostly merchantile. Unfortunately.

A good riot fuelled by recession will wake them up from their slumber. Many genuinely believe - now they have given up Indian passport and are British citizens- they are going to be safe. And they are in good NHS jobs earning a pretty penny. The most sensible chap I found was a Indian Sikh taxi driver who also has a corner shop who has seen difficult times in the past. He sees remarkable parallels between today and 1970's.

They would trust Farage to sell their NHS (or whatever that's left of it) to exorbitant American insurance companies? With BoJo's pro immigration stance, it seems the Indians would not be too happy with more competition coming their way in the real estate sector. The segments are very different between skilled and non-skilled, but then their kids can be affected.

On BBC coverage Shekar Kapur shoes the middle finger to the British: Hey BBC, why don’t you call Northern Ireland ‘British Occupied Ireland’'

On Sunday, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur lashed out at BBC’s coverage of Article 370’s abrogation and wondered why the Beeb didn’t call Northern Ireland ‘British Occupied Ireland’.

He wrote on Twitter: “Hey @BBCWorld .. each time you call #kashmir ‘Indian Occupied Kashmir’ I keep wondering why you refuse to call Northern Ireland ‘British Occupied Ireland’ ?”

Many Indian commentators have accused several foreign publications including BBC, Al Jazeera, The Guardian and even NYT of biased coverage over the Kashmir unrest.

England has a bloody history with Ireland. The British Crown continued to violently put down any call for home rule from the people and the potato famine of the 1840s saw around 2 million Irishmen killed, a move we'd see again the Bengal famine a century later courtesy Winston Churchill.

Meanwhile, best-selling author Frederick Forsyth has also BBC of bias in the past, particularly when he was working there as a correspondent during the Biafra War in Nigeria. He even claimed a BBC spy broke into his flat.

Violent protests outside Indian place, London on eve of independence day where 100s gathered for peaceful celebration. This crowd was caught in pincer grasp of Pakistanis & Khalistanis who beat horse mounted police back and rained glass bottles, lighters, chairs on Indian crowd, which consisted of children & women mostly for cultural programmes. Finally after many hours of mayhem riot police marched in , it took till late evening to clear & secure the roads around Indian mission.

Our uncle went to Harrow and so did Churchill. But it must be similar to Eaton. Not much has changed in this area.
https://www.spiegel.de/international/eu ... 80694.html
A Clique of 'Pseudo-Adults'
Britain's Elite-School Problem

Boris Johnson is the 20th prime minister to come out of Eton College. The school represents a system in which the elite stay among themselves and fail to see the problems of others. And it is becoming a serious problem for the country.
By Jörg Schindler, August 09, 2019
At the very front of the Eton Museum, there is a wall of fame set up on a mint-green background. Princes William and Harry are there, as is James Bond author Ian Fleming, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the actor Damian Lewis and Hugh "Dr. House" Laurie. There are also decorated soldiers, Olympics athletes, journalists and adventurers. And, of course, politicians. David Cameron is there, as is Jacob Rees-Mogg and, on the top-right, a young, blonde man grinning broadly into the camera: Boris Johnson, who is described there as the former mayor of London and ex-foreign minister.
Eton College, it seems, hasn't completely caught up with the times. The school is extremely proud of its "Old Etonians." The exhibit proudly notes that graduates of the school "can be found involved in almost every national movement, in every event and on every side."
That, some would say, is the problem.
In the United Kingdom, a lot of people are once again talking and writing about Eton. They aren't, of course, talking about the Berkshire village by that name, which is essentially just a long street decorated with Union Jacks located just west of London, around the corner from Windsor Castle.

uk has given home to a lot of people who were against their establishments to live in UK as cheap labor and to be used in future for protests and needling the countries when the time was right. I have myself seen stores with pics of prabhakaran in East ham or the videos of folks dising modi. These people, as is always the case, are more noisy and tend to take a big share of airwaves. Far and away from home without a family support like India, impressionable kids join them to be a rebel or to be cool or to champion the cause of downtrodden. Resulting in deranged people like Hard Kaur.
Coming to sikhs, many were products of the khalistani movement and the riots of 84. Many lost their kith and kin and thus hold a grudge against Indians.
As folks already said many times on GDF that these peepul think they are entitled to earn from India (our own kancha had a Twitter thread on this)

There is a sizable Khalistani supporter population in Birmingham. For along time there was a 'Shaheed Major General Shabeg Singh' memorial library run by the Gurdwara right next to the Gurudwara. Only recently has been takn down. Rgular protest marching in Birmingham by these folks

No he'll be the first to blame the Home Office for making cuts to police numbers. Meanwhile Indians in Labour are in damage control trying to pacify the community after Corbyn's statement. I'm sure Tories are having a laugh and will reap benefits in a snap election in Indian dominated areas.

^^Rsatchi, i know many families good friends for decades, donating in memory of bhindrawale to the shahidi gullak. They're open to tell us about all this, coz they hid in our house in 84 .. there's no point in arguing/reasoning with them for them(after trying many times)..to them kids dying out of the violence was far better than kids living on drugs in punjab, as the kids were fighting for a valiant cause. The line between an overt khalistani and a passive supporter donating money for the cause gets blurred sometimes...the good thing is majority are on the right side..and these under currents are under control...

also immigrants tend to carry frozen memory of how native country was when they left , this emotion is passed on to subsequent generations , as a result children of these immigrants tend to carry grudge against govt of India and cuss who ever is in power, obviously lacking grey cells to understand the paradigm shift in power structure in India.

^^IndraDji I came across many such gone nutcase kids in US. I knew a girl in office who got her GC in '16 was so vehemently anti indian. Her problem was a distrubed childhood in 90s when abhrahmic princes and princesses didnt accept the lady because of her desi clothing and she fought with her parents to get the weshtern clothing. She was saying to a brishit in front of me that Indians are asking the koh-i-noor back. The brishit was more understanding of Indian cause, knowing the power center in the team. She kept on poking us and all the republicans until she came dressed all black as hilary lost.
Now coming to the your point of kids. the following are my viewponts
1. kids try to be rebels and try to think that as cool. This lets them denounce their origins only to return to them later. Reasonable cases
2. Try to prove themselves whiter than white or as BRF had term: MUTU
3. many of the parents who came had come from humble backgrounds which dont get that much respect in India, like truck drivers, guards etc. Western countries they are not disrespected. the labor is more dignified than it is in India and these jobs do let you have a decent living. They have more reason to diss India. In my opinion i mostly saw those indians dissing who could not make it here in India had our would have a tough time in swadesh. In general I find IIT/IIM grads to be mindful and respectful. But thats my limited experience

People in Sunderland told to stop defecating in the street - George Martin

Residents of Sunderland have been warned to stop “defecating and urinating” in the city centre. :rotfl:

In a vitriolic Facebook post the city’s Business Improvement District (BID) complained that there had been an increased amount of incidents in recent weeks.

The BID said the practice “will not be tolerated” and asked those who saw it to call the police on 101.

“Disappointingly we’ve seen an increase in people thinking it is absolutely acceptable to defecate or urinate in public in our city centre,” the BID post read.

“THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

“Anyone who observes this behaviour should report it to Northumbria Police on 101.

“It is a Public Order offence at minimum and individuals will be charged!

“Help us keep our city centre clean.”

The BID later told the Newcastle Chronicle they had posted the Facebook appeal after a specific incident this week.

A spokesperson told the newspaper: "The BID's post was as a result of a very specific incident which occurred yesterday.

"The BID, the council and a whole host of other organisations are working together to make Sunderland a cleaner, safer place to visit so this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable.

Commenters on the BID’s Facebook post agreed with that the situation was getting worse, with many sharing shop-owners stories of defecation near their stores.

One person, however, claimed the problem was being caused by the city centre's public toilets closing after 7pm, adding "people under the age of 18 are not allowed on the premises after 9pm".

But Sunderland BID replied: "Unfortunately this is not happening after 7pm and nor is it children."

Chetak anything coming out of the west should be construed as a lie (unless proven otherwise) even if it is from a "respected" journal like lancet. Brtishit are using all means to advance their agendas. I have read pretty much most major textbooks in english in medicine. first few decades did not have a clue about things other than medicine . Now after a lifetime of experience and thinking , the entire western medical textbooks are racist to put is mildly. medicine as we know it if these scum are to be believed started in 15-16th century in western Europe and than in US. Rest of the world does not exist as far as medicine is concerned. Initial work was done in greece by Hippocrates/galen etc than a big gap and voila in 15/16th century again medicine started to be reborn this is the narrative consciously or subconsciously is being spoon fed to everyone. A complete and utter lie it is .Human knowledge does not happen this way. It is a continuous process with peaks and troughs.

In a surgical texbook of britshit descent of 2000 pages exactly one line is devoted to indian contribution in plastic surgery during Gupta period . This should tell u something about these sc*mbags.Medicine is as racist as other parts of life , no less.
This political article by lancet is in the same tradition of bulls*it.

It's the kitchen sink. They've run out of everything else to throw. I'm actually glad the Lancet did this, in the true spirit of chivalry - Sir Lance(lo)t riding to the aid of the damsel in distress, Kashmir. It shows their desperation, and more importantly, it makes it easy and pleasurable to show their desperation to certain "interested parties" (more like busybodies) who keep quizzing on India based on BBC propaganda. What business does a medical magazine have sticking its nose in politics? The busybodies can now struggle to explain that to me.

The Lancet's behavior makes perfect sense, if one is familiar with the issue all the way since its inception (1947, and even earlier, with the history of British colonialism). I can now tell the quizzical busybodies that, and if they don't believe me, I can challenge them to explain what business the Lancet has in publishing this political story. It's a Godsend, I say .

Once before with Israel. The Israeli expat lobby made the author cry uncle and he flew all the way to Israel to apologize. Modi's lack of action against the left/presstitutes has emboldened them to be openly seditious and carry the water for the Lancet types.

Lancet’s editor is well know for his biases and political approach. He has no credibility.

See:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Horton_(editor)
Professor Sir Mark Pepys wrote: "The failure of the Menduca et al authors to disclose their extraordinary conflicts of interest… are the most serious, unprofessional and unethical errors. The transparent effort to conceal this vicious and substantially mendacious partisan political diatribe as an innocent humanitarian appeal has no place in any serious publication, let alone a professional medical journal, and would disgrace even the lowest of the gutter press." In addition, Pepys accused Horton personally saying that "Horton’s behavior in this case is consistent with his longstanding and wholly inappropriate use of The Lancet as a vehicle for his own extreme political views. It has greatly detracted from the former high standing of the journal." In response, Horton said: "How can you separate politics and health? The two go hand-in-hand."

Thanks!

I looked it up, it seems that as far as Israel goes, Lancet published a whole series of propaganda pieces, over 13 years (2001 to 2014). It seems they actually published 264 such pieces. I don't know if they were all articles, most of them seem to be commentaries (irrelevant to medicine of course) or letters of support for the Palestinians. The last one, in 2014, being a letter of support for Palestinians and accusing Israel of war crimes, seems to have been the last straw for the Jews. They labeled the Horton dude as an anti-semite, told his daughter that her father was a Jew hater, verbally attacked his wife, etc. The guy then rushed to Israel, claimed to "change his mind after seeing the true situation," and then started publishing pro-Israel pieces! Wonder what they did to him.

But this piece on Kashmir might be a new low, even for the Lancet - the earlier pieces on Israel weren't articles, it seems, more like thinly-disguised political commentary (with a veneer of "medical" commentary) and letters of support and such.

David Vance types are exception not the rule. The current mainstream Conservative govt in UK is the only govt among P-5 apart from the Chinese who were sympathetic to Pakis at the recent UNSC informal session on Kashmir.
