Rajasthan: Blind father of Dalit youth allegedly lynched last month in Alwar commits suicide, blames police for ‘suppressing investigation’
https://www.opindia.com/2019/08/rajasth ... r-suicide/
Upset with the insensitivity shown by Rajasthan police in handling his son’s case, father of the Dalit youth, who had died last month after being allegedly beaten mercilessly by a mob after his bike hurt a Muslim woman in the Fasla village, committed suicide by consuming poison on Thursday.

Rattiram Jatav was quoted by his relatives as saying, that he was upset with the police “trying to suppress the investigation” into his son Harish Jatav’s death. They further said that even in his final moments, Rattiram accused the police of shielding the accused. Shockingly, the Alwar police have claimed that Rattiram was brought dead to the hospital and they have started the investigation in the matter.

More importantly more money and contractors will solve this problem ?

They lost big time, bigger than vietnam. Bunnies put another nail in a new coffin. Even if they have some sort of agreement with porkies they have no hopes of having secured bases in Afghanistan till bunnies are around.Afghans are no Japanese/germans they will not tolerate any bases will go till eternal history be any witness we all know how has massa cut and run from such conflicts , this no exception.

Can't believe that a hypocritical creep and a religious bigot like valson thampu has written this piece.

Is there something that he is foreseeing,

the junking of the fraudulent RTE perhaps, a millstone that is sitting heavy around the neck of the majority or worse things that were thrust upon the unsuspecting and docile majority by IG and her urban naxal BIF pals

Kashmir as an allegory of pathological minorityism

Between the response, broadly speaking, of the rest of India and that of the people of the Valley, to the present Kashmir gamble, there is a complete discontinuity.

When an action taken in apparent hostility to a religious minority group finds wide national endorsement, it should make members of that community, as also of other communities similarly placed, sit and reckon what it signals.

“The strength of my community,” a senior Muslim leader told me some fifteen years ago, “is that when it comes to religion, they do not think.” Developments one after another prove that this is not a strength but a terrible weakness. Those who keep their community’s thinking paralysed are wolves, even if they parade themselves in sheep’s clothing.

A religious minority, wrote Hilaire Belloc (The Jews, 1922), is apt to be perceived as a foreign body in an organism. If we would keep aside idealistic myths and notions and look reality in the face, we would agree with Belloc.

Given the problematic dynamics of majority-minority relationships, which get aggravated in tune with ongoing political power struggles, there are only three models, according to Belloc, for dealing with it: (a) extermination of minorities, say, after the fashion of Hitler (b) their exclusion, as the Jews suffered in most European societies, and (c) the coexistence of the majority and minorities in a state of tolerant acceptance of each other, which is the ideal.

The last of the three calls for adjustments from both parties. In a democracy, minorities should not, even if they legally can, live like ‘a stone in the midst of a flowing stream’ (W B Yeats).

The majority, on its part, should not treat a minority, emboldened by unbridled state power, like a mass of people to be directed and driven at will. Wholesome majority-minority coexistence is vital to constitutional, secular democracy in a religiously pluralist society. The alternative is majoritarian communalism fuelling fascism.

Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the Union of India. Separatists apart, this position is axiomatic even for mainstream Kashmiri politicians, including the now maligned members of ‘three families’. No self-respecting state will entertain separatists.

A state is not a saintly entity. Unlike moralists, no political thinker anywhere in the world maintains that a state should forgive a domestic agent or foreign country that destabilises its national interests or hurts its territorial integrity.

I am a Christian and I believe that enemies must be loved as mandated by biblical ethics; but I am realistic enough to know, and accept, that politics is a domain in which enemies are, if possible, eliminated. Those who maintain otherwise are wilfully blind to historical realities.

Well, what about religions? There is no religious community, including mine, that deals with freethinkers and heretics with forbearance and charity. Separatists are political heretics. Certainly so, from the perspective of the state, which is what matters in the present instance.

The Kashmir policy of the government is not an accidental outbreak, but the outcome of an electoral process in which 900 million citizens endorsed, by majority opinion, a genre of statecraft and a certain style of doing politics.

In a democracy it must prevail, even if several of the agendas pursued and the strategies adopted happen to disquiet individual citizens.

Leaving aside speculation regarding how the Kashmir gambit will play out, there is one issue that it foregrounds. That issue has ramifications for the country as a whole. Can a minority religious community seek to preserve and advocate its identity and interests in indifference to national sensitivities?

Or, can a religious minority exist as an end in itself, indifferent to the dynamics of a religiously pluralist body politic, selectively invoking the provisions of its secular constitution? If it chooses to, should it justify that option and what it entails on the plea that the majority community also does likewise?

Is it even spiritually defensible for a religious community—minority or majority—to exist only for itself, unmindful of the national totality from which it derives its rights and national identity? Isn’t spirituality, after all, a point of convergence of the political and the religious?

Religious communities have, in varying degrees, failed in this respect and done themselves and the country serious disservice over a period of time. The reason for this is fairly obvious.

Members of minority communities allow themselves to be herded together, used and politically abused by their self-seeking, feudalistic leaders who care only for the enlargement of their influence and affluence.

The plight of religious minorities in India is a silent tragedy of vast human collectives being kept manipulated, brainwashed, backward and barricaded from the national mainstream.

This has two regrettable outcomes: under-development of religious minorities (Parsis excepted), and their growing alienation and forfeiture of goodwill. The plight of average Kashmiris is not going to improve even if the autonomy they are made to die for is granted to them.

Nor is it going to be degraded any further than it already is, on account of the statehood of J&K being compromised. On the mainstream side of the divide, the national security environment is not going to be healed by the measures now undertaken. Other than sentimental highs or lows, life will remain the same for most people.

The interests of a handful could gain.

I plead with the members of minority communities to emerge from their infantile tutelage to communal leaders who have a vested interest in keeping them fed on emotive, antiquated agendas and obsessions. They need to be, if they have any common sense, as selfish for their own good as their leaders are for their own gains in inciting them the way they do.

As a rule, leaders don’t suffer; they only gain, no matter what happens. Being used as tools is detrimental to human dignity. Fools, in public life, are human beings who allow themselves to be used as tools. It doesn’t matter who, or in which camp, they are.

Fools exclude themselves from goodwill; religious fools most of all

This is what happens when Congress comes to power anywhere, even in Rajasthan where Muslims constitute only 8% of the population (or MP, where they are only 6%). They know its their government and police works as if they are Razakars.

Nothing scares Pakistanis more than the possibility that India could succeed and Pakistan fail -- Tavleen Singh
As someone who knows Pakistan well, I learned long ago that nothing frightens Pakistanis more than the possibility that India could succeed and Pakistan fail. It may seem from Imran Khan’s recent rantings about the ‘fascist, Hindu Supremacist Modi government’ that it is Kashmir that Pakistanis care about more than anything. This is not true. Kashmir is not the ‘core problem’ between India and Pakistan as military men and jihadists next door like to say. The core problem is that if India becomes a mighty economic superpower and Pakistan remains a bankrupt nuclear power, then the whole exercise of breaking India to make a nation for the ‘pure’ could become meaningless.
As has been know on this forum for long, solving Kashmir problem would not solve India Pakistan problem. Pakistan's problem is the very existence of India. The only solution is for one of the country to disappear from the face of the earth. Nothing short of it will work.

I have taken a break from SM except for BRF. Outside the noisy world of SM, where everyone wants to tell NM, how to run the govt or as if sky is falling , It seems BJP would easily trounce opposition in Mah and Haryana.
The honeymoon period of the govt seems to be lasting beyond 100 days.

Its still pre-2014 in global media, many 3 vs 1 debate and really we are not able to set narrative out there at all. It has to be addressed well, perhaps lobby groups, a new medium (india global channel?) and better training of our own people who usually tend to be over emotional in debates...

Narendra Modi govt launches drive against 'subversive' NGOs to tackle dangers of suspicious foreign investments
The Centre has quietly launched a drive to sensitise government institutions about the activities of what it calls "subversive" non-profit organisations (NGOs) operating in the country. Top sources in the government said this move is being implemented on the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and is based on a two-pronged strategy — to "counter those working against the nation's interest and protect the ones empowering the public and addressing social problems".

Modi, who had first raised concerns about certain NGOs in 2018, is learnt to have told senior officers that if "suspicious foreign entities are investing money in vulnerable NGOs, then it should not be considered as charity but investment for other purposes which should be properly examined by the institutions and authorities".

The prime minister is understood to have conveyed to top officers, “If the money is being pumped in for a social cause and nation-building, then there is nothing wrong. But if it is used by civil society to further the cause of foreign powers and subvert democratic institutions, then there is a serious danger. This is a new kind of challenge and we must be ready to face it.”
“The states need to extend scrutiny to the village level to find out those NGOs who are working among the poor and are at the same time involved in conversion. It is difficult to know whether religious conversion taking place in various states with the help of NGOs is done through offering money, or whether such conversions are matters of faith. The beneficiary may not inform the District Collector, and may even deny that payments were made to him or her by the group when questioned. State authorities have been tasked to create awareness and also prepare reports on the ongoing religious conversion for further examination by the central government,” sources said, adding that at least 14 NGOs in Kerala and Tamil Nadu and a few others in Goa, Manipur, West Bengal, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh are under the scanner for their involvement in conversion and propagating a particular religious ideology.

Former CBI director Vijay Shankar said that there has to be strict regulation on funds flowing to these NGOs from abroad, because it is a very sensitive matter and many western countries, after 9/11, have changed their domestic rules to monitor funding as well as activities of non-profit groups.

Former Intelligence Bureau chief DC Pathak told Firstpost that the government needs to be vigilant about charity organisations in case funds are being utilised for activities other than their defined ones. He said, “We have seen earlier that NGOs were used to take up certain causes, and that is why the government and authorities need to be very cautious about scrutinising their activities, like many other foreign powers are. There has to be clear policy of categorising those doing good work on the ground and some who might have other motives. Government authorities should develop a mechanism to strictly check such activities.”

Chidambaram On The Run? ED Reaches His Residence
Two officials from the Enforcement Directorate arrived at P Chidambaram's house in New Delhi on Tuesday. A few minutes ago, two teams ( as per sources) from the CBI was outside his residence, hours after the Delhi High Court denied him bail. The Union Minister, sources said, had switched his phone off and was untraceable and the CBI was on look-out for him.

As per sources, a team of five to six officers have arrived at his residence in the evening. Sources said that five to six people came in a car to his residence. However, as per sources, the former Union Minister has switched his phone off and is untraceable; the agency is on a look-out for him.

The former Union Minister was denied the anticipatory bail by the Delhi High Court in the INX Media Case earlier on Tuesday. The senior Congress leader had approached the court with an bail application in the corruption and money laundering case.

During arguments, both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate had opposed Chidambaram's plea on the ground that his custodial interrogation was required as he was evasive during questioning. Both the probe agencies had contended that during Chidambaram's tenure as finance minister, FIPB clearance was granted to the media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs. 305 crore in 2007.

Hours after P. Chidambaram was denied bail by the Delhi High Court in the INX Media Case, a battery of Congress senior leaders and lawyers including- Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Salman Khurshid, and Kapil Sibal were confronted outside the Supreme Court.

In an unprecedented move, four Congress senior legal leaders who were in consultant with P. Chidambaram visited the Supreme Court and elaborating on the same, Congress' Kapil Sibal told Republic TV that they requested the Chief Justice to put a stay on the order.

National Herald case: Delhi HC allows trial of Sonia, Rahul Gandhi

Priyanka Mittal, Anuja
HC directs the Congress leaders and four others to appear before a trial court on Tuesday, dismissing their petitions to quash the summons
The Congress suffered a political jolt on Monday when the Delhi high court cleared the way for the trial of its president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi, among others, in a case of alleged misappropriation of funds.

The ruling could potentially dent the efforts of the Congress to stitch together a united opposition to challenge the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), especially in the Rajya Sabha where the government is seeking to push through key bills like the constitution amendment bill to implement the goods and services tax in the ongoing winter session of Parliament.

The high court ruling came on a petition filed by the Gandhis seeking quashing of the summons issued by a trial court in a case of alleged misappropriation of party funds to take control of the National Herald newspaper.

The trial of the Gandhis, along with Oscar Fernandes, Suman Dubey, Sam Pitroda and party treasurer Motilal Vora, is set to begin on Tuesday in the Patiala trial courts in Delhi.

The HC order said that prima facie, the “petitioner appears to be the kingpin of the entire scam” and has not cooperated with the investigation. Magnitude & enormity of material produced disentitle him from any pre-arrest bail" . This is for P Chidambaram.

have noticed one thing that Gandhi Family and specially RaGa don't pay tributes to any leader other than the leaders from his family.
Today, he paid tributes to his father but he had deliberately forgot to do the same for AtalJi & KalamJi.
So much arrogance & hatred.

You must read Justice Sunil Gaur's starting line in the Judgment asking Sonia & Rahul to face the trial in National Herald case - "Probity of a legendary National Political Party is under scanner in these petitions."
Long live Subramanya Swami as this National Herald case is entirely his contribution. He filed it with guts well before BJP came into in power in 2014. They may throw Vora and others as sacrificial lambs from any fallout but this case has so many connections to Gandhis to go down along with Vora.

Kashmir fallout: The three strands of India’s diplomatic challenge

Kashmir fallout: The three strands of India’s diplomatic challenge

Ashok Malik

Aug 19 2019

It has had to navigate the debate on civil liberties, overcome history, and deal with China’s posture

Culminating in the “informal, closed-door meeting” of the United Nations Security Council on August 16, the past two weeks have been revealing. They have made apparent three different strands to the diplomatic challenge India faces following the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir and the removal of Article 370. In some senses, this is the biggest such challenge created by a domestic event since the Pokhran II nuclear tests. Many of the lead actors are the same. However, India’s leverage in the international system is much greater than in 1998.

The first challenge is the civil liberties debate. Seen dispassionately, it represents a pressing dilemma for democratic governance – between lockdown conditions that ensure peace, and a relaxing of such conditions that makes space for incitement and violence. There is no easy “sweet spot” or “right moment”. A graded easing of administrative arrangements in the Valley has begun and schools and offices are due to re-open. With the advent of the apple harvesting season in a few weeks, political activism is, in any case, likely to decline. If the government can maintain stability till then, it would have passed a milestone. Summer 2020 is another story.

Predictably, the Narendra Modi government has been condemned by a familiar assortment of New York/London-based know-alls, fringe left activists, Pakistani state agents masquerading as aggrieved neutrals, and freelance self-determinists representing nothing but their bylines. Despite this, New Delhi is determined to stick to its timelines and not be rushed. The perception here is that woolly-headed idealists and theoreticians in the West’s “opinion factories” are completely out of touch with the realist politics unfolding in Asia, across several geographies.

The second strand relates to Kashmir per se – the historical dispute between India and Pakistan. As is obvious, Kashmir is now less of a priority for the global system than it once was. Pakistan desperately wants it to stay alive. Yet, for most major powers, there is little to gain by either wasting political capital in pressuring India on the Kashmir issue, or in promoting a quasi-independent, inevitably Islamist territory at the intersection of South and Central Asia. That may have been a Cold War fantasy; today it is a nightmare.

Apart from Pakistan, Kashmir is being kept on the table by two self-appointed third umpires – China and the United Kingdom. They were aligned at the Security Council meeting and outmanoeuvred only by the strident support India received from France and the United States, and some smaller countries. On its part, Russia took a careful middle path. It said the matter was bilateral and opposed internationalisation; on the Chinese demand for a collective statement after the meeting, it remained silent (neither supporting nor opposing).

What explains the UK’s conduct? There are two factors. For a start, the Pakistani-origin community’s role and influence in British electoral politics has made London extremely vulnerable to extra-territorial state manipulation. British diplomats talk airily of “our Kashmiri diaspora”, when in fact they refer to a population descended from Mirpur (in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) that largely self-identifies with the Pakistani community in the UK, and with the Pakistani state and its strategic goals.

That aside, in what can only be described as unreconstructed atavism, sections of the British establishment seem to continue to believe that they have a role in “resolving” Kashmir. In reality, they are irrelevant and entirely unwelcome. Perfidious Albion has needlessly opened a new front. It will hear more on this from India in the coming days. The ugly violence outside the Indian High Commission in London on Independence Day, only reluctantly and weakly criticised by local authorities, has not helped.

The final strand relates to China. It has been extraordinarily hostile, even talking of “human rights violations” for probably the first time in diplomatic memory. This, while Hong Kong is in turmoil and Xinjiang is crowding its concentration camps. China would want Kashmir to continue to simmer as this is an inexpensive mechanism by which India is kept bogged down by Pakistan. In reimagining the contours of the Kashmir issue, testing international response, and getting tacit endorsement from a cross-section of countries – including in the Arab world – China realises India has made a significant advance. As an international cause, Kashmir is becoming yesterday’s news.

Even so, China’s principal concern is not Kashmir – it is Ladakh. As a standalone Union Territory, fully under Union government administration, Ladakh will get the attention it has long deserved. This could have profound implications. In the past 70 years, the Chinese have done more than any other power to change the ground situation in the erstwhile Kingdom of Jammu and Kashmir and its periphery. They have occupied the Shaksgam Valley and Aksai Chin. As part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, they have built infrastructure that is both dual-use and, in some cases, simply military-use in Gilgit-Baltistan. Separately, with the annexation and militarisation of Tibet and Xinjiang, they have converted historical buffer regions into armed frontiers.

In the coming decade, if India acts strategically in Ladakh and builds appropriate capacities, some of the Chinese investments and assumptions (as described above) could be at risk. As shrewd realists, quite unlike their intellectual auxiliaries in the West, the Chinese understand India is playing for the long term. They are alarmed not by today’s realities – but tomorrow’s possibilities

CBI has now put a notice outside residence of P. Chidambaram at Jor Bagh in New Delhi summoning him within next two hours of the receipt of this notice. Interesting late night development. Why is Chidambaram running away from CBI if he has nothing to hide?

Land sale mandatorily involves the top management in every organisation, especially a sale as high profile and as contentious as this one with public protests and what not.

Defence Ministry Files Cheating Case Against Church Of South India For Selling Defence Land To Bengaluru Metro For Rs 60 Crore

by
Swarajya Staff
Aug 20 2019,

The Defence Ministry has initiated a complaint against the Church of South India (CSI) for making false claims of ownership over a land strip belonging to the ministry and foregoing its ownership over the same in lieu for a payment of Rs 60 crore from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), Times of India has reported.

BMRCL acquired the land for construction of the Vellara Junction underground station on the Red Line from Dairy Circle to Nagawara. BMRCL acquired 3,618 sq meters of church land occupied by tenants such as Tom’s Hotel and Fatima Bakery. At the time, it paid Rss 60 crore as compensation to the Church of South India.

The Defence Estate Office (DEO) of the Defence Ministry, however, produced survey documents to establish that the land claimed by the Church belongs to it. The minsitry has also staked claim to the compensation.

In the first week of July, the DEO (Karnataka circle) wrote to All Saints Church and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd stating that the church land was part of defence land — Survey No 275 of Civil and Military Station, Bengaluru — which was leased by the Quarter Master General (QMG) to the church authorities during 1865,1884 and 1898. The CSI is the parent body of All Saints Church.

The letter demanded that since the land belongs to the Defence Ministry, the said compensation should be paid to the Consolidated Fund of India.

India’s second-largest Christian church – Church of South India (CSI) - is the largest Protestant denomination in the country. It is a union of churches belonging to Anglican Methodist, Congregational, Presbyterian and Reformed sects.

CSI assets across South India are estimated to be in the region of Rs 1 lakh crore. It reportedly receives at least Rs 1,000 crore annually in the form of donations and various other offerings. It manages and runs over 5,000 educational institutions across southern India.

My dream on ghar wapasi:

Pass a Freedom of Conversion With Informed Consent Bill:

- protect the right to change religion, provided_all_ information (including wonderful aspects of Quran & Hadith) is given, convertee passes a government-defined test in the information. Needless to say, these tests should emphasize eternal aspects of Dharma as well corr elements of Abrahamic religions.

- stringent criminal penalties for either faking consent or for giving wrong information, or for any kind of abuse or misrepresentation of former religion.

- stringent criminal penalties for any kind of anti-apostacy action by anyone at all targeting the legitimate converts.
(After 3T. It is time to end anti-apostacy, followed by animal sacrifice)

On the surface, all is equal-equal onlee and Hindus can be turned into Muslims or Christians legally. But in reality, yeevil yindoo Mudi controls the entire process, and lays a legal minefield for lovings and peacefuls.
