This was the result last time in MH. Point to be noted is all four main parties - BJP, SS, INC and NCP contested separately last time. This time BJP-SS and INC-NCP both have alliances.

Code: Select all

Party Seats contested	Seats won	Vote Percentage
Bharatiya Janata Party 260 122 27.8
Shiv Sena 282 63 19.3
Indian National Congress 287 42 18.0
Nationalist Congress Party 278 41 17.2
I have skipped the smaller parties.

Assuming this happens, how will this impact RS?
Once RS majority is obtained, Modi.Shah will be able to go bonkers with their agenda.

All 3 are already ruled by BJP. So they won't be gaining any seats in RS if they win.

BJP is not going to get RS majority anytime soon, especially after last year's losses in MP, RJ and CG. But there are ways around it as they showed during the 370 removal. That was one thing where most people agreed the govt. would need RS majority to get it through. But that didn't turn out to be the case when push came to shove. They just miscalculated how non-NDA parties would vote.

Cong likely to withdraw from BDC elections’ contest
https://www.dailyexcelsior.com/cong-lik ... s-contest/
JAMMU, Oct 8: The Congress Party is likely to withdraw from the contest in the Block Development Committee (BDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

While National Conference has already dropped enough hint not to contest elections in view of detention of its many leaders in Kashmir, the PDP has maintained silence over the matter, showing no interest in the unilateral decision of the ruling dispensation at the Centre about elections. Moreover, tomorrow is the last date of filing nominations up to 2 pm.

Two senior PCC leaders told the Excelsior that tomorrow (Oct 9) is the last date of filing nominations for the post of Chairman of the Block Development Councils. But till today, many Congress leaders are under detention in Kashmir. While Panchayat elections were held on non-party basis, the BDC elections have been declared on the party basis.

They revealed that all the BJP leaders and activists are moving free and carrying on their political activities and campaign, many leaders of not only Congress Party, but those from the main regional parties like- NC and PDP are still kept under restrictions/detention. The security of many leaders has been withdrawn and movement of the party leaders has been restricted. Under such circumstances, it is not possible to contest elections for them.

They pointed out that BJP has worked out the selection process of contesting candidates from Block, to District and State levels and declared lists but the Congress leadership was not given time to work on this exercise, due to restrictions. “This is basically the mockery of democracy. Let the BJP contest elections itself as it is hell bent to grab power by adopting any means, eroding sanctity of the democratic institutions,” they regretted.

2 LeT militants killed in Awantipora
https://www.dailyexcelsior.com/2-let-mi ... wantipora/
SRINAGAR, Oct 8: Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in a fierce gun battle in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.

Security forces including Army, Central Reserve Police (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police this morning launched an operation in Kawani village of Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district after inputs about presence of two militants hiding in the village.

The troops laid siege to the village and closed all its exit and entry points so that the militants may not flee from the cordoned off area. They conducted house to house searches during which militants fired upon troops, leading to a fierce gun battle.
The gun battle continued for several hours and militants tried to shift their place during the encounter. The house in which the militants were hiding and adjacent cow shed were damaged in the gun battle and fire that raised the house to rubble.

One militant of LeT Ufaid Farooq Lone alias Abu Muslim son of Farooq Ahmad Lone of Awantipora was killed at around noon. His body was recovered by the troops but they could not locate the second militant.

The operation continued for several hours during which troops cleared the debris of the structures that were damaged in the encounter. Body of another militant was later found in the cowshed and it was charred beyond recognition.
The body was later taken to Police Station Awantipora where he was identified as Mohammad Abbas son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat of village Kawani.

Bodies of both the militants were later handed over to the families of these militants. Police sources said that Ufaid Farooq Lone was active since 4th July 2018 and Mohammad Abbas from 26th April 2019.
This is first gun battle in South Kashmir and fourth in the Valley since August 5 when Articles 370 and 35A were abrogated. The first encounter took place in Old Town Baramulla on August 20 in which one militant Mohsin Gujri, was killed. This was followed by killing of another militant in Sopore area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Two militants who are yet to be identified have been killed in ongoing operation in Ganderbal forests. The operation was launched last month and one militant was killed on September 28 and another’s body was found in the forest area last week

Kashmir restrictions ‘devastating’: U.S. House Committee
Weeks ahead of its Asia Subcommittee hearing on human rights in South Asia, the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) said the communications shutdown is having a “devastating impact“ on Kashmiris and called for restrictions to be lifted.

“India’s communication blackout in Kashmir is having a devastating impact on the lives and welfare of everyday Kashmiris. It’s time for India to lift these restrictions and afford Kashmiris the same rights and privileges as any other Indian citizen,” the HFAC tweeted.

Communist takeover of congress is a work in very fast paced progress.
Communist hijacking started becoming visible with UPA-I with the formation of NAC. No wonder CON stand of the last 10-15 years but more after 2014 on all national issues toes the Communist, NGO, Tudke tudke & activist line.

US/UK/Canada - Islamists,Militant Gay/Women/Minority groups infiltrating appeasement parties to take over them from inside. I see khalistanis, Hindu/Jew hate groups, anti-white groups all itching for fights, provoking people on identity basis, playing victims 24x7.

These hate groups have also infiltrated academic institutions, media big time. We need to clean up JNU and other media orgaizations from this garbage.

Well, when resources are low, priorities have to be made, and this is what happened And while nothing happens in 1 year, his record speaks for itself. After 1965, Pakistan did not do a military offensive thrust into India. (At Kargil, they held fixed positions and not an offensive thrust).

^ LBS was a very good choice for India.

- He had to work in Congress with Nehru's men and produce results.
- He did.

- Its well known that he strengthened and carried fwd defence production (Vijayant Tank, L1A1 SLR Rifle, 105 mm gun, 51mm mortar, local ammo, Gnat fighter, etc.)

- He won the 1965 war by showing strong leadership, crossed the border in multiple areas, even faced down China saying that "india wont be deterred by nuclear weapons, will fight for its self respect and rights."

- He started the White revolution, green revolution , CSIR lab expansion, etc.

- He was strong and incorruptible, returning his salary to govt. every month, and spending time in the dark to save electricity , inspiring entire nation. He died in penury, with unpaid loans.

- The hindi language row was not started by him, but apparently inherited from Nehru. He solved the problem by suggesting English as a middle path, which was accepted by the South.

- Very revolutionary leader, had he not died in 1966, would have carried India forward admirably.

Added later

- Though a socialist, wanted unshackled economy and "prosperity for all".

- Started the development of nuclear explosive devices, which trigger a nuclear bomb.

It was there in the Constitution itself. Hindi will be the official language and English will be joint official language for 15 years or words to that effect. LBS had no choice but do what he did in 1965. The rest is history.

Don't be surprised if shah faesal turns out to be a plant by Intelligence agencies. Cashmere is a game of smoke and mirrors.
There was no reason for him to quit IAS and end up being nobody. He doesn't even has any political background or base to be a force. Kashmir politics has been all about Money and family name. There is hardly anyone in last 40 years who has been a outsider yet successful in Kashmir.
From personal knowledge, I know that agencies do groom interesting profiles and He probably is one of them but ended up with bad timing. Without Govt support, He is another Yogendra Yadav kind of character.
IB is managing Kashmir situation very competently since the days of Gen Sinha. They have everyone in their pocket.
Don't forget everyone and anyone in Kashmir is/was on govt payroll, right from politician like Sheikh Abdullah & Bakshi Ghulam Mohd. to terrorists like Yasin Malik to Bitta Karate. Geelani is the best example of govt paid semi-terrorist.

It may sound contrarian but Terrorism has been a great boon for a complete ecosystem in J&K that feeds on Central govt money, contracts and power.

she has mysteriously found a house in the poshest locality of srinagar, flies everywhere and has no visible means of support or income.

she was given security by the govt and as to what may be the exact threat to her, it is not discernable as she is as kattarpanthi as the most rabid jehadi.

Its all about " alternate journalism" ., what do you think Im the dim, the edgy of turkey and the geriatric politician of malaysia are upto.. starting a new front for " Islamic journalism"... taking a leaf out of Russias news "front" on Ukraine and the US

Nowadays there is no news only views of interested parties in newspapers and that becomes the view on TV! ( by EXperts and ANALysts)

Probably India will need to wake up and have its own "views" on newspapers and TV ..and not worry too much about such views., always ready with its facts and figures, and pre empt any ASSumptions by senators ityadi uninformed folk to go and read up on.

What to call it ???
An upcoming full meltdown under pressure ???

or CBM before 11 pin ping visit................

Government clears demo by Huawei for 5G tech

NEW DELHI: Ahead of Chinese president Xi Jinping's visit to India, the government has allowed controversial Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei to participate in the 5G use case demos during the India Mobile Congress (IMC) that begins in the capital next week (October 14 and October 16). However, the government has not yet taken any final decision on participation of the company in the upcoming wider and broad-based 5G trials that give an opportunity to companies to showcase their technological prowess more effectively.

It is understood that Huawei will present the use cases in partnership with Airtel and Vodafone-Idea, the two telecom operators with which it enjoys very deep relationships. "The company has received permission, and we are hopeful to see demos thatshow us benefits of migrating to a 5G regime," an official source told TOI.

Participation of Huawei in 5G demos is being seen with suspicion, since the government has not yet given any go-ahead to
participation of the company in 5G trails. "It will be incorrect to link this permission to trials. That is a different matter and is being considered separately. No decision has been made on the trials so far," the source said.

When contacted, Huawei expressed happiness at being given a go-ahead for IMC. "We are thankful to the Indian government for its continued trust and support towards Huawei. We believe it is the expectation of the industry that all vendors and 10/10/2019 Government clears demo by Huawei for 5G tech participants should come to this premier show with their latest solutions showcase. This is also the format on which IMC has been designed. We will continue to collectively showcase our leading solutions along with all other participants to make IMC a success," Jay Chen, CEO of Huawei India, said. It is believed that the government has said that all telecom equipment vendors, including Nokia and Ericsson, should share the 5G spectrum with each other. "Industry body COAI will coordinate this sharing, and this should be done without any any discrimination."

Yes the cost escalation points are very valid. But as i see the timing very suspicious.........

Indian telcos' capex on 5G will increase if govt bans Huawei: Fitch

If the Indian government does not allow Huawei to build a fifth-generation (5G) network in the country, then Indian telecom operators may have to spend more on 5G infrastructure, US Rating agency Fitch has said in a report.

"We are of the opinion that Indian telcos may need to invest more on 5G capex --especially on the equipment if Huawei were banned to supply 5G equipment in India. Chinese vendors on telecom are generally cheaper and have better technology on 5G than their European peers", Fitch Ratings Director (Asia Pacific) Nitin Soni told IANS in an interview.

The Chinese telecom equipment major got a huge endorsement in the world's hottest mobile market last week with Bharti Airtel promoter Sunil Mittal extending support to Huawei saying the company should be allowed to help build India's 5G networks."My view is they should be in play, I really feel they should be in play," Mittal said on Thursday at the World Economic Forum's India summit. Bharti Airtel is the second largest mobile network provider in India. Mittal went to the extent of saying Huawei products are superior to its European rivals -- Nokia and Ericsson. He said the Chinese firm's equipment is still much more advanced. Huawei has been a leader in developing the next-generation 5G technology, but its recent troubles have allowed rivals like Nokia and Ericsson to narrow the gap.

Given the current weak financial conditions of Indian telcos owing to the fierce competition unleashed by the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio through cheap data tariffs and free voice calls, and the sector weighed down by the spectrum auction loans taken for previous biddings, high capital expenditure for 5G would only force Indian firms to pay through their nose and further leverage their balance sheets. Airtel's net profits have shrunk to minimum and Vodafone Idea's losses have been mounting following their merger. India is still planning the setting up of its 5G networks, which is expected to be rolled out by next year. The Department of Telecom is currently working out the spectrum auction timeline which will include 5G auctions for the first time. Before assigning 5G spectrum to telcom operators, a field trial will be conducted wherein service providers will pair up with their chosen network vendors like Samsung, Nokia or Ericsson.

This spectrum is yet to be assigned and there is a lot of speculation whether Huawei will be invited to participate in Indian trials. IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told Parliament in June that Huawei was among six companies that had submitted proposals to participate in the country's 5G trials. He said that a special committee has been appointed to examine potential security concerns. "Huawei, over the last 10 or 12 years, has become extremely good with their product, to a point where I can safely say today their product is significantly superior to Ericsson and Nokia," he had said.

Airtel has been using equipment for its 3G and 4G networks from all three companies, Mittal said.

Just management of a trade/political challenge. GOI will use the babudom to indulge in its time killing chai-biskoot sessions. For geo-strategic reasons we will not openly ban the chinese from deploying their 5G technology in India. What will be ultimately done is what we did with Pakis during the second IPL auction. We did not ban the pakistani players but asked the team owners not to bid for any one of the players. Similarly the telecom companies in india will be told not to choose chinese 5G equipment.

Sunil Mittal will need to be given a dosage by GOI before that.

Yup ... and Sunil Mittal shouldn't have a problem because all other players too will have to choose from the same truncated field and thus a level playing field in India.

The biggest twist in Ayodhya case. Muslim intellectuals offer to relinquish Babri claim.

More details by TIMES NOW’s Amir.
1. Can be a delaying tactics. Tempting the court to announce another round of mediation and thus kill the current flow of the case which is rapidly moving towards conclusion.

2. Someone pointed out a while back that a comprehensive victory in favor of the Yindus in this case will lay a strong foundation for all other such claims and open the floodgates. IF one case can be decided on archeological evidence then it will set a precedence for the rest and remove most of the theological, emotional and other arguments for all future cases as having been already adjudicated and dismissed.

Better to surrender now and keep those theological, emotional and other arguments alive to be used next time with the next case.

Nope the Muslims are indulging in taqqaiya. They want to relinquish Babri Masjid claim but want a commitment/agreement for status quo (as existing on 15th August 1947) of other disputed Proven sites where masjid's were built by destroying temples. Example is Kashi Vishwanath and Gyan Vyapi masjid.

His business is not on a very strong footing right now. Enough dirt can be unearthed about its operations, so can he afford to risk his empire by not heeding to Modi/Shah?

Kashmir - The State & The Status by Srinath Raghavan, Manthan Samvaad 2019

Thank you. I dont know about his credentials etc...but appears to just take historian view but innocuously passes judgement ignoring the violence or Kashmiri pandits or the whole notion of jammu ignored for the last 70 years.

He also uses the slippery slope argument of comparing tamilnadu and governorship decisions to pass laws using backdoor mechanisms. In the best case well meaning but not smart - worst case more insidious using partial history

For what its worth,

"India, where BBC News now operates in nine languages, has seen a rise of 20m to 50m to become the top overseas market for BBC News. The USA becomes the third largest market overall with 38m, up 5m. The audience in Kenya has increased from 6m to 15m in the last year reaching 50 percent of the population. In Afghanistan, the BBC reaches 59 percent of the population. BBC News websites (World Service and bbc.com) have increased their combined reach by 6m to 51m globally, bucking wider trends for news sites.

The top 10 countries by BBC News audience are:

India 50m
Nigeria 41m

Afghanistan 12m
Bangladesh 12m
Egypt 11m
