'Extreme fear and self-censorship': media freedom under threat in Pakistan
Journalists face blanked-out articles, pulled funding and channel shutdown if they dare to criticise the state

Hannah Ellis-Petersen and Shah Meer Baloch, Tue 5 Nov 2019
For almost five years, Talat Hussain, a well-known Pakistani journalist, hosted a popular current affairs talk show on Geo TV, openly discussing the political issues of the day. But last year all that changed. Forced to comply with a “total blackout” of news that criticised the military or the government of the new prime minister, Imran Khan, Hussain found himself unable to speak freely.
“My programmes were being repeatedly censored,” said Hussain. “I was told that any suggestion that the 2018 elections were rigged or that the army was part of the running of the government by Imran Khan was unacceptable.”
While Pakistan has a turbulent relationship with media freedom, under Imran Khan, elected as prime minister last year with strong backing from the military, censorship is felt heavier than ever before.
Journalists, activists, authors and politicians spoke to the Guardian of a climate of “extreme fear and self-censorship”, and the suppression of opposition political voices, even worse than during the military dictatorship of General Zia, who oppressively ruled Pakistan between 1977 and 1988.
“I was told by Geo News administration that they could not air my analysis because the army, represented by ISPR [the media wing of the Pakistan armed forces], was very unhappy and they would shut down channel transmission if I continued to speak like I did, which they said was financially ruinous for them,” said Hussain. “In the end they used the ruse of downsizing and asked me to reduce my team and their salaries, which I refused and left.”
Hussain’s account of direct involvement by the military and political authorities in censoring stories critical to the government was repeated by half a dozen journalists. The pressure was reportedly exerted both through direct edicts to editors and producers, to less direct but more costly interventions such as pulling TV stations from transmission, targeting advertising revenue of dissenting media or pulling newspapers from circulation.
In many cases, the trend towards heavy censorship pre-dates Khan’s premiership, but he has been criticised for allowing it to continue, if not ramping it up. In 2017, Mohammed Hanif, a celebrated Pakistani novelist and satirist, was surprised to open the New York Times to find his article, titled Pakistan’s Triangle of Hate: Taliban, Army and India, had been removed and there was nothing but an empty page. “When you see a blank space in a newspaper where your article should have been, it’s slightly terrifying,” said Hanif. “It reminds you of old-fashioned censorship that we had during military dictatorships.” Speaking of the current government, Hanif said that “censorship … is the worst we have seen”.
Dawn, Pakistan’s largest English language newspaper, suffered huge financial losses in June last year when the military restricted its distribution after they published leaks of secret military meetings. The censoring of critical voices is not only restricted to media. Last week, an exhibition at the Karachi Biennale by the artist Adeela Suleman, called The Killing Fields of Karachi, which addressed the extrajudicial deaths of 444 people at the hands of the police chief Rao Anwar, was raided by the authorities and ordered to be shut down.

Bhindranwale in video: Had warned about Pakistan's 'hidden agenda', says Amarinder

NEW DELHI: On Khalistani separatist Jarnail Bhindranwale being featured in Pakistan government's official video on Kartarpur corridor, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said that he had warned about the neighbouring country's "hidden agenda" from day one.

"All this is what I have been warning about since day one, that Pakistan has a hidden agenda here. Pakistan on one side is showing love but on the other side, they can try to foment trouble. We have to very careful of their intentions” he told reports.

A video song released by the Pakistan government welcoming Sikh pilgrims to visit Kartarpur Sahib has created a controversy as it has pictures of three Khalistani separatist leaders, including Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in the background in one part of the clipJarnail Singh Bhindranwale in the background in one part of the clip.

The video, released by Pakistan's ministry of information and broadcasting, has posters of Bhindranwale, Major General Shabeg Singh and Amrik Singh Khalsa, all of whom were killed during Indian Army's Operation Blue Star at the Golden Temple in Amritsar in June 1984.

Bhindranwale was the head of Sikh religious sect Damdami Taksal. Singh was an Indian Army general, who joined the Khalistani movement in 1984 after he was stripped of his rank and court-martialled on charges of corruption just before his retirement. Khalsa was a Khalistani student leader who headed the now-banned All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSD).

Several Indian intelligence agencies and experts have also questioned Pakistan's intentions of opening the route.

A fringe Khalistani group based in the US called 'Sikhs for Justice' is attempting to promote the so-called 'Referendum 2020' movement by using the corridor with tacit support from Pakistan's spy agency ISI.

The video has surfaced just days before the Kartarpur Corridor is slated to be inaugurated. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the corridor on the Indian side on November 8, his Pakistani counterpart [bImran Khan[/b] will open the route on the other side the following day.

India and Pakistan had, on October 24, signed an agreement on the modalities for operationalising Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, paving the way for its inauguration ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

The corridor will facilitate visa-free movement of Indian pilgrims, who will have to just obtain a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib.

The route will connect Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab's Gurdaspur district with Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan

Pakistan, China agree to expand CPEC scope - Shahbaz Rana
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China on Tuesday agreed to set a new direction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for future cooperation in high economic impact areas by largely shifting away from infrastructure projects, except the $9 billion Mainline-1 projects.

So CPEC has morphed from being a debt trap + surplus dumping scam to a thinly veiled resource extraction/exploitation project. No doubt Paxtani elites and army would welcome the increased exports and money to carry out Jihad, but won't do much to help the general populace or the economy other than maybe relieving some balance of payments pressure.

You can bet your last dollar there will not be any increase in overall exports. All the schemes will remain on paper and the Chinese will favor setting up units in Vietnam and Cambodia trusting the efficient labor force there. In the meanwhile the principal loan amount given to pakistan + interest on it will keep on accumulating.

I agree to the extent that there will be no significant increase in value added exports. But they will get export revenue from resource exploitation (copper deposits in Baluchistan etc) and extraction by the Chinese, which will improve their balance of payments situation to an extent. However, even there the relationship will be exploitative and loaded in favor of the Chinese. Also, probably this is driven by the Chinese realizing that Paxtanis are not going to repay their existing CPEC debt, so they will probably negotiate for a lot of these mining rights etc for free or at throwaway prices in exchange for writing off that debt.

Either way, it looks like an end to the grandiose plans (more like Sheikh Chilli's daydreams) of CPEC bringing development, infrastructure and revenues to Paxtan.

LIVE: 'Azadi March' to turn into Seerat-e-Tayyaba conference on 12 Rabiul Awwal, says Fazl

ISLAMABAD: Tens of thousands of opposition supporters led by JUI-F’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman have gathered in Islamabad to demand the ouster of Prime Minister Imran Khan, warning of chaos if their demands were not met.

The protest in the capital is the first concerted opposition challenge the cricket star-turned-politician has faced since he won a general election last year promising to end corruption.

Security remains tight in Islamabad with the government and diplomatic sector – just a few kilometres from the rally site – sealed off, and roads blocked from shipping containers.

KEY DEVELOPMENTS

- Government has rejected resignation demand, PM rules out the possibility of an NRO for protest leaders

- Pakistan Army reaffirms continued support to state institutions

- DG ISPR says the army is an impartial institution which supports legitimate governments

- Deadlock persists after second round of negotiations

Guidance : 12th Rabi ul Awal 2019 - Eid Milad un Nabi 2019 will tentatively be observed on Sunday, 10th of November 2019.

Pakistan fearful of strategic encirclement by India, plays negative role in Afghanistan

Pakistan may view a weak and destabilized Afghanistan as preferable to a strong, unified Afghan state. "Pakistan's security services maintain ties to Afghan insurgent groups, most notably the Haqqani Network, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization

WASHINGTON: Pakistan has played an active but negative role in Afghan affairs for decades, and Pakistan's security establishment, fearful of strategic encirclement by India, continues to view the Afghan Taliban as "a relatively friendly and reliably anti-India element in Afghanistan", says a US Congressional report.

Pakistan may view a weak and destabilized Afghanistan as preferable to a strong, unified
Afghan state, especially one led by an ethnic Pashtun-dominated government in Kabul, says a report by the independent and bipartisan [url=ttps://economictimes.indiatimes.com/topic/Congressional-Research-Service]Congressional Research Service[/url] (CRS).

"Pakistan's security services maintain ties to Afghan insurgent groups, most notably the Haqqani Network, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) that has become an official, semi autonomous component of the Taliban.

"Afghan leaders, along with US military commanders, attribute much of the insurgency's power and longevity either directly or indirectly to Pakistani support. President Trump has accused Pakistan of "housing the very terrorists that we are fighting."

It says that "US officials have long identified militant safe havens in Pakistan as a threat to security in Afghanistan, though some Pakistani officials dispute that charge and note the Taliban's increased territorial control within Afghanistan itself," it adds.

It says that India's diplomatic and commercial presence in Afghanistan, and the US' "rhetorical support for ita exacerbates Pakistani fears of encirclement.

Indian interest in Afghanistan stems largely from India's broader regional rivalry with Pakistan, which impedes Indian efforts to establish stronger and more direct commercial and political relations with Central Asia, the report adds.

The report says that President Trump "did encourage India to play a greater role in Afghan economic development", which "along with other Administration messaging, has compounded Pakistani concerns over Indian activity in Afghanistan."

"India has been the largest regional contributor to Afghan reconstruction, but New Delhi has not shown an inclination to pursue a deeper defence relationship with Kabul," it adds.

On the Afghan peace talks, it notes that insurgent and terrorist groups "have demonstrated considerable capabilities in 2019, throwing into sharp relief the daunting security challenges that the Afghan government and its US and international partners face. At the same time, prospects for a negotiated settlement, driven by direct US-Taliban talks, are uncertain in light of the September 2019 cancellation of those negotiations and the Taliban's continued refusal to talk to the Afghan government."

"US policy has sought to force the Taliban to negotiate with the Afghan government by compelling the group to conclude that continued military struggle is futile in light of combined US, NATO, and Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) capabilities.

"It is still unclear, however, how the Taliban perceives its fortunes; given the group's recent battlefield gains, one observer has said that "the group has little reason to commit to a peace process: it is on a winning streak."

It suggests that the US Congress "may examine how the US can leverage its assets, influence, and experience in Afghanistan, as well as those of Afghanistan's neighbours and international organizations, to encourage more equal, inclusive, and effective governance."

Army too busy to get involved in political activities: DG ISPR - Our Correspondent

KARACHI: Pakistan Army is a non-political institution and security engagements it’s involved in do not allow it to become part of any political activity, the chief military spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Major General Asif Ghafoor, director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), in televised comments, said that dharna (sit-in) is a political activity and the armed forces of the country had no role in it.

“The work we are involved in does not allow us to become a part of any such [political] activity,” he remarked.
Maj-Gen Ghafoor said the military supported government during PTI’s dharna of 2014.

“However, it neither has any role in the country’s electoral process nor has it any desire to do so,” he added.

In response to a question, he said, “JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman – who is currently leading the opposition’s anti-government Azadi March in Islamabad – keeps Pakistan as dear to him as we all do… and he is I believe aware of its [sit-in’s] implications at international level”.

“I do not speak for myself and represent my institution during media interactions,” said the spokesperson for the military’s media wing referring to criticism by the JUI-F chief on his last statement on Azadi March.

Commenting on criticism over military’s involvement in the electoral process, he said the army had no role in elections. “The armed forces are only called in aid of civilian power by governments in accordance with requisition under the Constitution.”

“The army has no say whatsoever in matters linked to elections… the government with the input of other political parties decide about formation of Election Commission and its head, as well as, interim government. They even decide where and how many troops would be deployed [during polls].

“Let me say one more thing in this… the army chief interacted [with politicians] twice, once at Senate and again during parliamentary committee’s briefing in the aftermath of February 27 events, where he suggested forming a parliamentary committee which can formulate strategy on key national issues.

“Even on election, the army chief has also recommended devising a system devoid of army’s involvement in polls… we are the last one who wants any duty in elections. Army would not partake in election process if governments do not call it in.”

Commenting on the Kashmir issue, Maj-Gen Ghafoor said the armed forces have been sacrificing for the last 70 years, adding that the government and the military have neither made any compromises on the issue nor will they ever think of doing so in the future.

Responding to criticism on Kartarpur Corridor, the DG ISPR said the initiative is taken solely for the Sikh community and it has no link with the Kashmir issue.

He said the pilgrims would only be permitted to visit the gurdwara and won’t be allowed to leave its premises and international yatrees will not be allowed to cross the Indian border.

“Taking this opportunity I would like to clear one more point here that entry for this initiative will be a legal entry, a permit-based entry and in accordance with the passport based identity process… there will be no compromise on security or sovereignty.

“We should respect the Sikh community’s religious sentiments and avoid making this a political issue.”

Prime Minister Imran Khan, last week, waived off passport requirement for the Sikh pilgrims traveling to Pakistan on the occasion of Baba Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary.

In a tweet, the premier said members of the Sikh community coming to Kartapur from India will not need a passport. “They will be able to travel with a valid identity card.”

India protests against video released by Pakistan on Kartarpur - Sachin Parashar – TNN

HIGHLIGHTS

- While describing Kartarpur as a corridor between the India & Pak, the government expressed apprehensions the corridor will be used by forces in Pakistan to "leverage" the Khalistan issue

Ahead of the inauguration, the government remains concerned about the security of the Indian dignitaries who would be travelling with the 575-strong jatha to kartarpur pn Nov 9

NEW DELHI: While describing the Kartarpur Corridor, which will be inaugurated on Saturday, as a possible corridor of peace between India and Pakistan, the government also cautioned Wednesday that the same also served a "strategic purpose" for Pakistan, namely efforts from across the border to fan separatist sentiments in Punjab.

India has registered a protest with Islamabad over the issue of posters of slain Khalistani terrorists appearing in the background of a video released by the Pakistan government on the corridor. Asked about the video, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh had said Wednesday that Pakistan had a "hidden agenda.

Official sources here said that the pilgrims returning from Pakistan in the past few months have noticed a decrease in anti-India activities at gurudwaras in Pakistan. The government fears though that this might just be a temporary phase.

While India remains apprehensive that the corridor will be used by forces in Pakistan to leverage" the Khalistan issue, government sources said India also saw the corridor as a positive step which would help promote Sikh interests.

Whether or not it can lead to something more substantive in bilateral relations, they said, will depend entirely on whether or not Pakistan chooses to behave as a "normal country." India has repeatedly said that for any substantive engagement between the two countries, Pakistan must first stop promoting cross-border terrorism.

"There is a need to recognise the duality," said a high-level source. "It serves a strategic purpose for Pakistan but, having said that, we also see it as a corridor of peace. The corridor provides a positive energy (in ties) but to what extent it can be converted to something more significant and long-term will depend on Pakistan," added the source.

Talking about the "unusual alacrity" with which the Pakistan army had pushed the project, government sources here said it was important to remember that India had pressed Pakistan to open the corridor for over 20 years.

Ahead of the inauguration in Pakistan, the government remains concerned about the security of the Indian dignitaries who will be travelling with the first 575-strong jatha to Kartarpur on November 9.

However, while Pakistan has not yet allowed a visit by an Indian advance team, officials from the Indian high commission in Islamabad were allowed to visit Kartarpur on Wednesday.

Apart from former PM Manmohan Singh and his family, union ministers Harsimrat Badal and Hardeep Puri, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh and several other ministers of the state are scheduled to pay obeisance at the gurudwara on Saturday

While Pakistan PM Imran Khan had said in a tweet that Sikh pilgrims won’t have to carry passport for their pilgrimage, government sources said all pilgrims for now will travel to Kartarpur with their passports, as agreed in the MoU.

"For the MoU to be amended, Pakistan first has to officially approach us. Any why should this condition be waived off only for Sikhs and not others," said a source, recalling how India had earlier forced Pakistan to withdraw the condition that pilgrims mention their religion in the travel documents.

I wont be surprised that during one of the tense stand offs in future, They will shut down this corridor demanding India to back off.

So all the donation that devotees will leave at Kartarpur, will it be skimmed of by Pak owned SGPC - Pakistan ?

Gentle BR-Fites :

THIS STORY IS FROM MARCH 30, 2002

Mann sorry for nana’s siropa to Dwyer - Yudhvir Rana | TNN | Updated: Mar 30, 2002

Amritsar: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) Chief simranjit singh mann has sought an apology from the panth for the presenting of a siropa to general michael O’dwyer by his maternal grandfather and the then jathedar of akal takht, giani aroor singh. the general was responsible for the jallianwala bagh massacre of april 13, 1919. mann was speaking during the budget session of sgpc, held here on saturday. Terming the presenting of siropa to dwyer as a “panthic mistake” , mann said his act of seeking apology would give peace to his nana's soul.

IMHO : Possibly this created a "difference" between the Sikhs and Punjabi Hindus which might have led to the Khalistani Movement and the present dumbos like Navjot Singh Sidhu and his Ilk!

Also, I think that it was Lieut Governor O'dwyer of Punjab. It was Col. Dyer who ordered the Gurkhas to fire on the Congregation which comprised possible of Hindus and Siks gathering for the Baisakhi Festival.

I wont be surprised that during one of the tense stand offs in future, They will shut down this corridor demanding India to back off.

So all the donation that devotees will leave at Kartarpur, will it be skimmed of by Pak owned SGPC - Pakistan ?
there's very little we can do as of now, apart from not lowering our guard and and be vigilant. The line needs to be redrawn with this and perhaps nankana sahib be returned to india

A noob pooch:
During the line drawing in 1946/47, did not the ICS class look into these issues given that it was only 4 miles difference. It could have been redrawn then and we would not have these issues and idiots of the 'Colourful Pathka' type( I.,e NS Sidhu)
Or was this a deliberate mischief by the retreating Britshits!!

^^they did, things were far complex. the last census was done in 1901 based on which notional awards of region were decided.Final decisions were based on facts/views which died with their viewers. THere was an argument of Lahore to India. Gurudaspur, pathankot, hoshiarpur were also debated. In the end it all led to extermination of population on other religions on both sides.

Things were not localized either there were complexities of water, railway, J&K. I suspect, British created a semblance of both parties coming unsatisfied out of the room (not that there was any other outcome possible otherwise) but the acuteness was amplified. Indians complain brishits of perfidy in J&K. Pakis on not letting areas which would have let them control J&K.

All that is 72 years behind us. It should get its 72 soon and we should get what we want, in my wish list, Kartarpur, nankana sahib, hinglaj, apart from PoK and balwaristan

Also, I think that it was Lieut Governor O'dwyer of Punjab. It was Col. Dyer who ordered the Gurkhas to fire on the Congregation which comprised possible of Hindus and Siks gathering for the Baisakhi Festival.

Yes..Sir Michael Francis O'Dwyer was Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab and O'Dwyer endorsed Colonel Reginald Dyer's vile act...

Shaheed Udham singh was a child from Khalsa Orphanage in Amritsar distributing water to people and barely survived. He avenged it later!! Shaheed Bhagat Singh visited this place and kept the blood soaked earth with him for rest of his life.
Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra said this in British high court when sentenced to death in July 23rd, 1909 who was an inspiration to all of the later freedom fighters!!

"I do not want to say anything in defence of myself, but simply to prove the justice of my deed. As for myself, no English law court has got any authority to arrest and detain me in prison, or pass sentence of death on me. That is the reason I did not have any counsel to defend me.

And I maintain that if it is patriotic in an Englishman to fight against the Germans if they were to occupy this country, it is much more justifiable and patriotic in my case to fight against the English. I hold the English people responsible for the murder of eighty millions of Indian people in the last fifty years, and they are also responsible for taking away £100,000,000 every year from India to this country. I also hold them responsible for the hanging and deportation of my patriotic countrymen, who did just the same as the English people here are advising their countrymen to do. And the Englishman who goes out to India and gets, say, £100 a month, that simply means that he passes a sentence of death on a thousand of my poor countrymen, because these thousand people could easily live on this £100, which the Englishman spends mostly on his frivolities and pleasures. Just as the Germans have no right to occupy this country, so the English people have no right to occupy India, and it is perfectly justifiable on our part to kill the Englishman who is polluting our sacred land. I am surprised at the terrible hypocrisy, the farce, and the mockery of the English people. They pose as the champions of oppressed humanity—the peoples of the Congo and the people of Russia—when there is terrible oppression and horrible atrocities committed in India; for example, the killing of two millions of people every year and the outraging of our women. In case this country is occupied by Germans, and the Englishman, not bearing to see the Germans walking with the insolence of conquerors in the streets of London, goes and kills one or two Germans, and that Englishman is held as a patriot by the people of this country, then certainly I am prepared to work for the emancipation of my Motherland. Whatever else I have to say is in the paper before the Court I make this statement, not because I wish to plead for mercy or anything of that kind. I wish that English people should sentence me to death, for in that case the vengeance of my countrymen will be all the more keen. I put forward this statement to show the justice of my cause to the outside world, and especially to our sympathizers in America and Germany.

I have told you over and over again that I do not acknowledge the authority of the Court, You can do whatever you like. I do not mind at all. You can pass sentence of death on me. I do not care. You white people are all-powerful now, but, remember, it shall have our turn in the time to come, when we can do what we like.[8]"

^^^Thx. One of the best description/books IMO is Yashpal's three volumes of Sinhavlokan.. Yashpal was eyewitness to many of the events of that time. (After Chandrasekhar Azad's death he was commender of HSS. He was with Bhagat Singh, Azad in many of these adventures and was the person who put the bomb under Viceroy's train). Very worth reading.

What is meant by Darbar Sahib being unheart, hainji? (Compared to Bakistese having large hearts). :rotfl:
Someone needs to edumacate the Bakistense about punctuation and capitalization in the English language.

I wonder what are the guffaws in Punjabi (Gurmukhi)?

That is correct. The Irish didn’t become independent until 1921. The Jallianwalah Bagh massacre happened in 1919. Irish officers were part of the British empire.

Indian Govt. must put up similar posters reminding the pilgrims that Kartarpur Sahib rightfully belongs to India, but for the horrible massacres perpetrated by the descendants of Aurangzeb and associates of Djinnah.

Widespread protests in PoK ring alarm bells for Islamabad – ANI

MUZAFFARABAD: Thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets of Pakistan occupied Kashmir( PoK) as part of the ongoing protests against the police crackdown on peaceful demonstrations last month that claimed the lives of one person and injured several others in the region.

Protesters alleged that the crackdown has become the modus operandi of the establishment which uses brute force to muzzle all kinds of opinions and dissents in the region. They alleged it was nothing short of the mayhem unleashed by Pakistani forces in 1947 when they invaded their territory.

Afzal Suleria, leader of National Students Federation in Muzaffarabad said, "Our state was divided into many when the tribal attack took place in 1947. The history was repeated. There was a situation of violence and plunder. Women were targeted. Houses were shelled with ammunition."

"Children were charged with baton. Innocents were attacked. One common citizen Aslam Abbasi was killed. No judicial commission has been formed till date and the culprits have not been prosecuted. They were never brought to justice and no FIR was registered".

Various political parties under the All Independent parties alliance(AIPA) in PoK had called for a pro-freedom rally in Muzaffarabad on October 22 to observe "black day". It was on this day in 1947 that Pakistani forces had invaded Jammu and Kashmir.

People had come out on the streets in large numbers to register their protest on the 72nd anniversary of the Invasion Day. Denying the demonstrators to hold antigovernment protestors, the police resorted to using tear gas shells and lathi charged to disperse the crowd.

Muzaffar Baig, another leader of the National Students Federation said while addressing a gathering, "They have their power of influence on common people, be he a businessman, farmer, laborer, or common dweller. Police exercise its authority only on commoners."

He added, "You think we are going to be scared of them? If you are a believer of any religion, for example, you are a Muslim then prepare yourself to sacrifice for Allah. We are not going to be scared of these monsters. We are not getting scared of these people who earn Rs 20,000- 30,000 but don't hesitate in taking ten rupees from a poor man".

While anti-establishment demonstrations and protests is a common sight in the PoK, the last few weeks have presented a different picture altogether.

Unprecedented support and the unflinching morale of the people have certainly rung alarm bells for Islamabad.

At a time when Imran Khan government is already facing a massive political resistance, developments in PoK have added to the worries of the establishment
