That could be a genetic trait as well because people who only know how to run things from behind the scenes are not going to be hot on things like accountability and responsibility.

They will be more tuned to the concept of a sacrificial goat as a management technique.

Right now, the SS line of succession is beginning to look increasingly iffy and the SS is probably in an existential crisis situation.

Either way, the pedantic SS leadership has grossly misplayed their already weak hand and have also foolishly and shortsightedly revealed their cards without ever having really seen their opponent's hands.
This drama episode showed a lot of hands. Sun Tsu says some times stupidity of self reveals cunningness of opponent (I made it up :) ). I originally thought they or self pushed SS to NCP and INC to avoid anti-incumbency in 3-4 years affecting general election in MH.
the NCP/Congis put down a lot of humiliating conditions, testing the waters and heaping humiliations on UT/AT to weaken their negotiating position and effectively sidelining the SS leadership in the eyes of the voting public.

the difference between the NCP and the congis with respect to sharing of the spoils of the windfall that so unexpectedly fell into their laps is likely the crux of the matter.

both of them have yet to reveal their hands.

All that they did was to ensure publicly that SS was made really desperate and perhaps even reckless in their great desire to grab the CMs gaddi.

BJP & NCP ensured that Sena revealed its true ideology infornt of its home crowd. BJP pushed them and NCP pulled them in. Serves the purpose of both.

If they do manage to form a government it will again serve the purpose of both BJP and NCP. How does it serve the NCP? Look what we have ...

If the Muslims that still vote CON in Maha decide to migrate where will the flock? NCP or Owasi.

If they want to go with the one best positioned to beat BJP, they will shift to NCP. OTOH, if they decide all Hindu led parties as untrust-worthy, they will align with Owasi. This will benefit BJP too! CON will be a net looser in both the scenarios and this is not counting its losses outside Maha.

BJP/NCP get an opportunity to squeeze both Sena and CON together. What is not to like about this scenario?

This is true. Supriya Sule's husband Sadanand Sule is the son of Bal Thackeray's sister. The families have always been close outside of politics. Back in the 60's BT and Pawar were close even in politics. The Cong supported SS as a force against the commies and trade-unionists back then. Here is an interesting photo from back in the day - Bal Thackeray, Sharad Pawar and George Fernandes.

Thackeray always fondly referred to Pawar as "Sharad Babu" and from political stage called him 'maidyaancha pota' (sack of flour) :rotfl: - and for the latter it was Balasaheb. The two leaders not only discussed about politics but they discussed art, culture and sports. Whenever time permitted, Pawar, the Maratha strongman, would visit Matoshree, the bungalow of the Thackerays in Bandra, He enjoyed food cooked by Thackeray's wife Meenatai.
So Kejriwal is right. "Sab mile hue hai" is true in more than one ways.

This one is fairly well-reasoned and also rather hilarious to read:

https://theprint.in/opinion/shiv-sena-n ... ra/321515/

The more this drama plays out, the more it is looking like Amit is in good control of the whole thing and Pawar is playing along for multiple possible reasons (both want to get rid of SS, Pawar wants relief from ED/CBI hounds, etc). It seems like Amit has turned a pain-in-the-azz like SS into a political tool. Uddhav and Aditya, to repeat myself, are dorks and greenhorns. On top of that there are clowns and comedians like Sanjay Raut, Arvind Sawant etc. Kya hai bhai.

These things go out of control however you think you are in control.

But I blame SS thugs for all this nonsense. These scum bags were enjoying power, making money, abusing Modi day in and day out but hanging on their coat tails to win more seats. They overplayed their cards. If the BJP caved into their shenanigans, they would be like Bhasmasur. Their inferiority complex and cluelessness would not only burn them but would destroy BJP in 2024.

SP is as of now the tallest politician in MH and they say as with any such leader has gigantic ego. He is old, had cancer and still personally running around, doing negotiation while UT a non mass leader sending his tinpot messenger for negotiation with SP. This arrogance may not go down well with SP and within NCP ranks.

I mean imagine SP meets SG for an hour, comes back and then this raut meets him
Raut: what did she say? Are you both agreed? Are you going to support us? What should I tell uddhav ji? Tell me tell me tell me
SP: yeh yeh lets see
Raut: ok ok jai maharashtra

Raut comes out and tell journalist "next CM will be from shiv sena"

Why is it being claimed that BJP pushed SS into NCP+Cong arms. BJP only followed what was decided before polls.
It was UT which got greedy and wanted to claim ownership of the hen laying golden eggs. He is happy being a football.
SS may still form the govt with CM'ship but they would be lame duck from the beginning. It was easier to abuse DF and Modi Ji and Amit bhai day in day out via Saamna but once they get into bed with Cong forces, They will be howling soon.

The complete silence from BJP tells me that they really aren't too much worried about the games being played in Maha.
If UT has to send his son to pacify the MLA's, you can imagine the state of affairs in SS.
2 warring parties coming together to form a govt never ever lasts long.

Vikasji,
We are only seeing a part of the picture. There was similar doubts when BJP joined in a coalition with Mehbooba Mufti. It is clear today why. IMHO, SS and BJP both represent a similar section of the voters. This state of affaairs has to come to an end, and BJP is working towards it quietly. SS is not willing to remain a junior partner and can not be trusted on the long run. We shall soon see that the coalition of SS+NCP+Congress will eliminate SS as a power in Maharashtra.

If the "alliance" does not form the govt, there are "other" considerations in play.

the abrahamics understand the concept of taqiya very well indeed and use it frequently to achieve their ends.

and again, for the abrahamics, power always and invariably flows from the barrel of the secular gun and that is how they have subdued the majority since independence using the twin political narcotics of gandhi and secularism

twitter

Congress managers are smart enough to realise that not a single Muslim, Christian or secular vote will be lost by Congress for allying with Shiv Sena. Both Congress and its Abrahamic vote bank are clever, strategic and long term

Seculars will be in fact happy to see a saffron party being pull down and made to eat grass. In this entire picture there is nowhere cong or ncp are compromising. It is SS who is striping in public. No reason for cong or ncp votebank to worry.

The point being the heavy duty cases against people who thought that they were eternally immune, always above the law which would anyway never dare to come visiting them in their home turf.

all the rest is more like window dressing and for public consumption only.

the public vastra haran of the SS is an exercise that was as essential as it is long overdue and it needed to be done to skewer the empty-headed and delusional leadership of these rank opportunists.

Temporary ... Karnataka is the latest example where sickulars ganged up on BJP and that victory was celebrated across India and in the media.

A Sena/NCP/CON government will not last but will hand the long-term advantage to BJP. This is why Shah/Modi made the bold play to cut Sena loose. IF Sena returns, it has no bargaining power left. If it does not, BJP is the only place for the malcontents ex-Sena, voters, workers and leaders.

Same is true for NCP. NCP scored better than CON and therefore is better placed to defeat BJP. All tactical CON abrahamics will move to NCP while some Muslims may opt for Owasi. To the extent some Muslims opt for Owasi, to that extent BJP benefits because that vote simply is nullified.

Owasi recently pulled ~9% vote in some by-elections in Bihar and that has made the sickular camp nervous. Same reason same result for BJP.

Looks like most folks missed this bit of news or have forgotten its lesson ...

https://www.indiatoday.in/elections/sto ... 2019-10-25
2019 bypoll results: How Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM's surprise win has shaken political equilibrium in Bihar
By winning Kishanganj's assembly seat Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM has created a huge splash in Bihar's political scenario. Asaduddin Owaisi's victory has clearly upset the applecart of the traditional political thinkers, who believe the sizeable Muslim population will be forced to vote for RJD-Congress.

But, the emergence of Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM as a viable alternative for Muslims is clearly bad news for both RJD and Congress at a time when Bihar is scheduled to have assembly polls next year.
Owaisi's entry into Bihar can do 3 things to its politics

1. Split the Muslim votes
2. Polarizies the voters
3. Make the RJD/CON go full retard in competition with Owaisi. In which case, it makes point 1 & 2 stand out even more.

No matter how it plays out, the ultimate beneficiary will be BJP even while it hurts JDU. The last bit again benefits BJP. BJP can keep diluting its Hindutva agenda while still getting the votes. Suits Modi the Vikas purush!

PS: Multiple edits for clarity.

As much as I am not a fan of Bhaiwood but its nice to see words like 'Bhagwa' becoming part of lexicon.
Somewhere some forgotten Heros are being brought to life. Soon it will become a Tsunami. Expect a movie on Maharana Pratap soon.
Waiting the day they make a Hindi movie on Vijaynagara & Chola empire. At least a bilingual one if not in only Hindi.
A realistic movie on Hari Singh Nalwa and how North West was won too would do wonders if they don't make it PC.

Movies on Shivaji Maharaj wars are inspiring, mainly because everything ends up in victory. Not a very popular subject among seculars. Most suitable stories for them are how hindus faught bravely and lost, and how peacefuls won in the end. Everyone is happy. Panipat is latest example.

Yeah but reality is that we don't have many instances of Hindus winning absolutely during Islamic era in India other than Maratha empire. I can speak of Hindi Movies and I don't see any on M Visvesvaraya or The battle of Kashmir-1947
or even on Liberation of Hyderabad.
What we get is one guy unable to marry, another one where sperms gets switched or a Muslim guy chasing a Hindu girl or
someone going bald or old balding heroes playing just out of college.

Meanwhile heard that they are making PrithviRaj with Akshay but they will never show what happened to Sanyogita
and the role played by that bloody creep from Ajmer. That would be so unsecular. They will show false history of blind Prithvi killing Mohd. Ghauri and everyone will go home happy.

In my NCERT school books, There were mainly 3 references to Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,
1, He used guerilla tactics with rag tag army
2. He was imprisoned by Aurangzeb in Agra and he escaped in a sweets basket
3. Aurangzeb called him mountain rat.
Nothing about his struggles, his wars, his challenges or his coronation but instead we were taught that 'Pious' Zeb used to sew caps for household expenses.

Next chapter was Panipat' 1761 with no reference to the middle period of Maratha empire and its expansion and then it was 1857 with no mention of Sikh exploits.

For years I could not fathom Why Maratha would travel all the way to Panipat to fight a distant invader with whom they had nothing to do and why Mughal King, The so called Emperor of India was MIA in all this.

In a first, Mamata warns of ‘minority extremism’
COOCHBEHAR: Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee, in a first ever, brought changes in her rhetoric against BJP and warned people against “minority extremism.” Without naming the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) Mamata at a Trinamool workers’ meet in Coochbehar said: “I am watching that there are some extremists among the minorities. They have their base in Hyderabad. Don’t listen to them.”

Minutes after workers’ meet the chief minister went to the Madan Mohan Temple in Coochbehar to offer her prayers before she went to the Rash Mela on the Rajbari gorunds. Mamata’s offering the puja at Madan Mohan Temple comes six days after BJP’s Coochbehar MP Nisith Pramanik came in a grand procession to the temple last Tuesday, performed the puja, spinned the Rash Chakra and offered gifts to the temple.

Political observers reading Mamata’s comment against “minority extremism” and her offering prayers at Madan Mohan Temple together held that the ruling Trinamool is desperate to win over the Hindu votes, both Bengali and Rajbanshi, who hold the key in Coochbehar. At the moment Trinamool has made dents into the Rajbanshi community but is yet to win over the Bengali refugee votes.

For years I could not fathom Why Maratha would travel all the way to Panipat to fight a distant invader with whom they had nothing to do
Not to go off track but there is a problem with offering war on platter to invaders who have obviously came to loot and plunder. Would shivaji done that in Panipat ? Prolly not.

In modern scenarios, it means bombing the fk outta supplies and tell the giant centerpede-looking armies to walk back from where they came.

In USA the slaveowner s mated nigros like animals and made next generation bigger in size - now the same practice has resulted in African Americans having such towering features. The bollywood seems to miss these little facts. Or infighting in Mughal camp. And such.

Maharashtra has a good coverage of Shivaji in school books. But sadly not so much of the Peshwas.

Each state has a decent coverage of its own history, probably to make up for the lack of coverage in history published by the NCERT.

I too recall what Vikas-ji said: Shivaji escaping from Aurangazeb hidden in a bag of tomatoes was a highlight, apart from that, the book pretty much dismissed him as a guerilla challenger who didn't appear all that successful (impression we got from the books). Krishnadevaraya's fate was even worse - art and culture at Hampi, and Tenali Raman. One could be excused for thinking that he ruled over a small city and spent his time singing and listening to poetry.

Two major empires that ensured that India as we know it today endured, both dismissed as mere footnotes in our history books. Shame on these distorians, er "historians".

the SS, as usual in the psyops mode

if Paul Joseph Goebbels had fathered progeny in India, one would surely know where to find at least one of them.

As if the regular doses of Urdu Shayaris from Sanjay Raut’s Twitter handle were not enough, the Sena has now gone ahead and compared their former allies with the Muslim invader Muhammad Ghori.

Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana said that BJP has been ‘ungrateful’ to the Shiv Sena’s contribution to the NDA and ‘backstabbed’ it just like Ghori who incarcerated Prithviraj Chauhan in the 18th battle despite being a recipient of his generosity for the first 17 battles.

The Saamana editorial slammed BJP for ‘removing’ it from the NDA on the death anniversary of Balasaheb Thackeray, who according to the editorial was one of the earliest proponents of the NDA and a pioneer of Hindutva movement. “It was Balasaheb Thackeray who extended his support to the NDA. He talked about Hindutva and Nationalism at a time when some of those running the NDA alliance were not even born,” the editorial said.

Ironically, the Saamnaa editorial did not mention that it was the Shiv Sena, who had made its lone minister Arvind Sawant resign from the union cabinet ahead of its plans to hold talks with Congress and NCP over government formation in Maharashtra.

The article further rebuked the BJP for ‘removing’ the Shiv Sena from NDA without giving them a hearing or calling out a meeting with the NDA parties to discuss their removal. The editorial said that this ‘dictatorial act’ by the BJP is against the democratic ethos of the country. The editorial says that the BJP ousted Shiv Sena unilaterally on the allegations of it getting into talks with the ideological rivals Congress and the NCP.

However, taking a swipe at the BJP, the article questioned BJP’s decision of joining hands with Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP party in Jammu and Kashmir and aligning in Bihar with Nitesh Kumar, who had had publicly criticised PM Modi.

“We were backstabbed by the BJP in Maharashtra. The founder of the Shiv Sena party, Balasaheb Thackeray, who resolutely stood with the BJP when no else was ready to, has been betrayed by them. We are not even given a show-cause notice before being ousted from the NDA,” the article said.

Things between the two former alliance partner turned sour in the aftermath of the Maharashtra Assembly election results when the Shiv Sena demanded a rotational chief minister position from the BJP.

The BJP denied it saying no such agreement was decided before the elections. This led to the Shiv Sena breaking apart from the BJP and foraging for support from ideological rivals NCP and Congress to install a Shiv Sena chief minister in the state. However, they are stuck in limbo as the NCP chief Sharad Pawar continues to prolong the impasse by holding his cards close to his chest.

looks like the toppling of the BJP govt in MAH is a long standing project of the NCP, ever since fadnavis cut off the fanged heads of the NCP and Congi and decimated their entrenched infrastructure of patronage, loot and power in all the non urban areas.

It looks like UT has been complicit in this little scheme right from the beginning but seems to have wound up woefully short on the testimonials when the proposal was first mooted to him.

now, completely misjudging his own bargaining power, he has waded in like a bull in the china shop and made a right royal dog's breakfast of it.

Left in the Lurch | Maharashtra

Left in the Lurch | Maharashtra

Kiran D. Tare
November 15, 2019

In 2016, when Ajit Pawar proposed that Uddhav Thackeray join hands with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress to form an alliance and topple the Devendra Fadnavis-led BJP government in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena chief developed cold feet. Three years later, it is Thackeray who is reviving the proposal to fulfil his dream of "making a Shiv Sainik chief minister" of India's richest state.

Thackeray decided to ditch the BJP after Fadnavis claimed on October 30 that his party had never discussed rotating the chief ministership for two-and-a-half years each. "For the first time, someone has labelled me a liar," a visibly hurt Thackeray told reporters in Mumbai on November 8, more than two weeks after the Maharashtra assembly verdict threw up no clear winners in the 288-member state assembly.

The BJP won 105 seats, the Sena 56, the NCP 54 and the Congress 44. Uddhav claimed BJP president Amit Shah had agreed on the power-sharing formula in a closed-door meeting at his residence. "Had they said they would not implement the formula, I would have agreed. Their denying the discussion has upset me, the BJP is a party of liars," Thackeray said. The parting of ways became formal when he pulled out Arvind Sawant, the lone Sena representative in the Union cabinet, on November 11.

Having parted ways with the BJP (which declined to form the government following which Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari invited Thackeray to stake a claim), the Sena leader has been trying hard to stitch an alliance with the Congress and NCP. In a rare gesture, he went out to meet NCP chief Sharad Pawar at a five-star hotel in Bandra instead of his residence. In another first, he called Congress president Sonia Gandhi and solicited her support in the course of a seven-minute conversation.

The Congress-NCP, however, are in no hurry to back the Sena. They did not release a letter of support within the November 11 deadline the governor had set, resulting in President's rule being declared the next day. To keep Thackeray guessing, Pawar went into a huddle with Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel in Mumbai on November 12 to discuss if they should form a government with the Sena. "There is need for clarity on several points before reaching a decision," Patel told reporters. "We (the Congress-NCP) will have a discussion first and if we decide to form a government with the Sena, we will have further discussions with them (Sena)," said Pawar. "President's rule is applicable for six months. We have enough time for discussions."

The Congress-NCP stand has left Thackeray in the lurch. Anticipating that the Congress-NCP would be equally eager to keep the BJP out of power, he had been expecting a quick response from them. "We will have discussion on the points they want clarity on," Thackeray said, putting a brave face on things on November 12. "I also want clarity on several points from them. We will sit together and draft a common minimum programme."

Political observers believe the Sena's commitment to the Hindutva ideology is what is coming in the way of an alliance, though Patel and Pawar were non-committal when asked about it. A source in the Congress says the party wants the post of assembly speaker as well as 12 portfolios if it joins the government with the NCP and Sena. The NCP, too, wants chief ministership for half the term. The NCP, in fact, will be the biggest gainer if an alliance materialises. It will give Pawar the opportunity to be part of the government and rebuild the party, which is in a shambles. According to a close aide, the Maratha strongman is likely to demand key portfolios such as revenue, rural development, finance and water resources. The Congress, too, will get a new lease of life and a boost in morale. "The experienced NCP and Congress ministers will have the upper hand in the alliance compared to the inexperienced Sena members," says political commentator Hemant Desai.

The fate of several important infrastructure projects such as the Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication Expressway, the Navi Mumbai airport, the Mumbai metro and the Mumbai Coastal Road rests on the shape of the new government. Other projects such as the ambitious Sewri-Nhava Sheva sea link, a Chhatrapati Shivaji memorial in the Arabian Sea, one for Dr B.R. Ambedkar in Dadar, and a water grid in drought-prone Marathwada could well see the BJP government at the Centre denying environmental clearances to a non-BJP government in the state.

There are other twists in the tale. A senior BJP leader says the party has revived its offer to Pawar of accommodating his daughter Supriya Sule in the Union cabinet if the NCP joins the NDA and supports a BJP government in the state from outside, like in 2014. Simultaneously, the BJP has opened back-channel negotiations with the Congress, asking it not to support the Sena. Patel's meeting with Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari on November 6, the BJP leader says, was part of this. "I guess they discussed the possibility of political uncertainty in Madhya Pradesh, should the Congress back the Sena," the leader says.

Former Sena CM and now BJP Rajya Sabha MP Narayan Rane says the Congress-NCP is making a fool out of Thackeray. "My party has given me the task of gathering numbers (145) to form a government in Maharashtra," he said on November 12. "I am on the job and am confident I'll finish it soon."

In all these political machinations, Thackeray could well turn out to be the biggest loser. By approaching the NCP and arch-rival Congress, he has shown that no one is untouchable if it can help the Sena form the government. If he fails to grab the CM's post for the party this time, it could well be the beginning of the end of his leadership.

Part of GOI's Judicial reform agenda will get support form the new CJI and that is a good start

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/ne ... 115537.cms
View: A new CJI provides GoI the chance to have another go at judicial reforms
The entire issue is stuck over creating a mutually agreed, transparent screening process to shortlist candidates for judicial appointments. GoI’s view is that it should, at least, have the rigour applied for selecting, say, secretaries and heads of other statutory bodies.

For secretary-level officials, a 360-degree ‘assessment of suitability’ is carried out by a committee of secretaries and former bureaucrats. It appears that the judiciary and the government agree on the principle of a screening process, but are still divided over who, or what kind of body, should execute this process.

<snip>

In a recent interview to ET, Justice Bobde also said he was in favour of creating a national judicial service. GoI has been pushing this idea with the intent to create an all-India cadre of judicial officers from where bulk of future judges could be selected. The proposal has been gone into in considerable detail, including on ways to carry out an all-India test and selection.

The government had also engaged with the outgoing CJI on the subject — which is how the matter got discussed at length. The broad understanding is that creating a service such as this would help significantly in addressing vacancies in the lower judiciary. If the new CJI is supportive, there’s no reason why GoI cannot resume discussions with the aim of achieving closure.
