View: A new CJI provides GoI the chance to have another go at judicial reforms
The entire issue is stuck over creating a mutually agreed, transparent screening process to shortlist candidates for judicial appointments. GoI’s view is that it should, at least, have the rigour applied for selecting, say, secretaries and heads of other statutory bodies.

For secretary-level officials, a 360-degree ‘assessment of suitability’ is carried out by a committee of secretaries and former bureaucrats. It appears that the judiciary and the government agree on the principle of a screening process, but are still divided over who, or what kind of body, should execute this process.

<snip>

In a recent interview to ET, Justice Bobde also said he was in favour of creating a national judicial service. GoI has been pushing this idea with the intent to create an all-India cadre of judicial officers from where bulk of future judges could be selected. The proposal has been gone into in considerable detail, including on ways to carry out an all-India test and selection.

The government had also engaged with the outgoing CJI on the subject — which is how the matter got discussed at length. The broad understanding is that creating a service such as this would help significantly in addressing vacancies in the lower judiciary. If the new CJI is supportive, there’s no reason why GoI cannot resume discussions with the aim of achieving closure.
They better reform jusdiciary before the BIF gets their nominee as CJI. He will be there for 2 years

If BJP Offers 50:50 Deal, Happy To Revive Alliance: Sena Sources
The Sena claims that as far as the alliance with the Congress-NCP is concerned, when it comes to chief ministership, the party will only agree to an entire five-year term for itself.
Sena sources say the party is "happy to revive its alliance with the BJP" if the BJP reverts to the 50-50 chief ministership formula.

But sources say they are aware the BJP is chasing the NCP to stymie the Sena.

The formula offered by the BJP, say sources, includes a role in the government for the NCP and the President's post for Mr Pawar
If no formula works, the Shiv Sena will prepare for Maharashtra elections, sources said.

Meanwhile what is happening at the "communist liberated citadel" of New Delhi, the JNU?
About 100 JNU students detained, some injured in lathicharge by police
* Social media posts says even ABVP is involved in the protest
* Numerous "facts & figures" of the fee & hostel fee structure in JNU; some talk about steep increase while the majority talks about the abysmally low hostel & mess fees.
* But at least in the social media groups in KL the focus is on aspect. The age bracket of "students". Trolls on Delhi Police men feeling guilty after having to lathi charge "students" who were in their father's age, and all the way to some JNU "students" escaping the lathi hits because police mistook them to be teaching staff .

Looks like the game plan of the commies is to make so much ruckus and then demand a debate in Parliament; with M/s A.Shah & Na.Mo themselves having to explain stuff. That would give this rotten "University" a pan-India coverage (increasing its importance).

The AS/NM plan is exactly the same except with opposite objective.

When earlier the professors were harassed inside the campus the GOI remained a mute spectator and VC did a public rudali but did not do anything. This was repeated multiple times till the students too to street. Why was the situation allowed to come here instead of getting nipped in the bud?

Me thinks, Shas/Modi want the world to see what kind of hoolignism goes in the name of student politics inside the campus before they swoop in to bring order. Give them long-rope and once the students are discredited, walk in straighten stuff. The same thing had happened last time too when the tukde-tukde protest was the culmination. GOI moved in only after the students lost sympathy with a large section of society. I think this will end similarly.

Btw, GOI should fix the base hostel/etc charges for all centrally funded universities indexed for City and Inflation. That should make the protesting students look like leeches that they are. IF SC/ST/OBC students in IITs/IIMs can pay much higher hostel charges why can't JNU students?

1. Sena walked out of the alliance .. Everyone barring their hardcore supports know that. Sena's charge against Shah/Modi will not wash with the masses.

2. Sena is in the most exposed position amongst all the parties in Maha today. They where not only crass but also bombastic with their comments.

3. Why should BJP adjust them, now that Sena's gambit has bombed doesn't seem to have yielded results? IF BJP did not yield before there is no reason to yield now.

4. Sena has to save face and is making demand with a weak hand! Theek hai.

5. The last point but especially highlighted part seems patently manufactured.

6. The threat of election too would not deter BJP. BJP will again get around 120+ and the rest will probably land in the same position. Perhaps BJP and NCP will gain a bit at the cost of Sena and CON.

We will be back to square one with similar equations laid out. BJP will form government with outside NCP support like it did in 2014. Theek hai.

n act of self-censorship, Amazon Prime deletes episode of CBS show Madam Secretary which deals with Hindu nationalism and Kashmir
Aditya Mani Jha
Nov 19, 2019 20:33:06 IST

In what appears to be an act of self-censorship, Amazon India has removed an episode of the CBS show Madam Secretary from its streaming platform, Prime Video. Indian subscribers of Prime Video cannot access the first episode of the show’s fifth season (originally aired 7 October 2018), which is currently tagged with a “video unavailable” message. The other episodes, however, remain available.

Despite repeated attempts, Amazon India has not responded to Firstpost’s queries about this matter.

Madam Secretary is a White House drama along the lines of The West Wing (1999-2006). It follows the career of the fictional Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni), a key member of the Democratic administration led by President Conrad Dalton (Keith Carradine).

Here’s what season five episode one, ‘E Pluribus Unum’ (Latin for ‘out of many, one’, the traditional US government motto signifying unity in diversity) is about — it follows Secretary McCord’s attempts to get India and Pakistan to sign a historic nuclear disarmament treaty at the White House. This is probably not the reason why the episode has been removed, however. That reason appears to be the episode’s secondary plot point — its repeated real-world references to Hindu nationalism, Hindu extremists and the Indian government’s woefully inadequate response to (and possible complicity in) majoritarian violence against its own Muslim citizens. There’s also a reference to “India-occupied Kashmir” in the middle of a dialogue.
At the very beginning of the episode, Secretary McCord received the following briefing from a staff member: “Humint* indicates the Indian government has decided not to take any definitive actions to quell Hindu nationalists from violently attacking members of India’s Muslim minority. In fact, a variety of sources indicate the Indian government is siding with the Hindu nationalists, and has deemed any responses that could prevent further attacks as politically dangerous.”
(*Humint, or human intelligence, is a term for information gathered through word-of-mouth)
This, of course, takes its cues from the Modi government’s repeated attempts to downplay the frequency and seriousness of anti-Muslim violence across the country (last month, for example, Union Home Minister Amit Shah denied an increase in anti-Muslim lynchings). There have also been attempts to hide data pertaining to the same; the Hindustan Times ‘Hate Tracker’, which collated such instances, was removed from the newspaper’s website in October 2017, just weeks after its then-editor-in-chief Bobby Ghosh quit “due to personal reasons”.
A little later in the episode, the show doubles down on the calling out of Hindu nationalist violence, in a scene set in an academic conference, where Professor Henry McCord (who also happens to be married to Secretary McCord; played by Tim Daly) debates an Indian Hindu professor, Arnay Vijay (Harsh Nayyar), on this issue
.
Amazon India’s decision comes at a time of major concerns over the censorship of streaming platforms. Earlier this month, following reports that Netflix had removed an episode of Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj from Saudi Arabia (the episode criticised the royal family on several issues, most notably the October 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul), CEO Reed Hastings said something that ought to have been obvious (but for some reason, wasn’t). He said Netflix “isn’t in the truth to power business, we’re in the entertainment business”. In the recent past, there have been several calls by various Hindu nationalist groups and political parties in India to ban shows like Prime Video’s A Family Man and Netflix’s Leila, for what they perceive as “anti-Hindu, anti-India” content.
It remains to be seen whether Amazon India’s decision to censor Madam Secretary will set the tone for other OTT platforms to follow
.
First shutdown these XXXX@FirstPost and HT

At what point can the Governor recommend fresh elections in the state ?

I have a feeling now that we may not see any govt in MH but instead fresh elections.
Even a few years reign by Pawar and co. will take the state back to 2004. India doesn't have chance or time to keep fixing what Pawar and his cohorts have destroyed.
With Pawar back in saddle, All the terrorists of D-gang can sleep peacefully knowing well that they and their business is safe in Mumbai.
Amongst all the hoohalla, Lets not forget that same Pawar is/was hands in glove with terror inc operating out of Gulf and Pakistan. So I have zero sympathy for him or desire to see BJP getting closer to him.

ref: Re-election in Maha ..
pankajs wrote:We will be back to square one with similar equations laid out. BJP will form government with outside NCP support like it did in 2014. Theek hai.
Question is why did the BJP not exercise the option of going with NCP earlier but passed the chance at government formation?

1. Sena has boasted of having the support of 170+ MLAs. BJP took the opportunity to call their bluff. Till date NCP/CON can't seem to get their equations straight!

2. More importantly, they wanted Sena to break the alliance. If BJP has pitched a BJP+NCP(Outside), Sena would have cried dokha and it would have resonated with the mango manoos.

BJP let Sena walk out to shield itself of that charge. Plus gave Sena the opportunity to disrobe publicly for power and CM ship. Plus the long-rope being given now it to completely demolish Sena's credibility.

IF after a suitable period, say 2 months, BJP where to form a government with the outside support of NCP like in 2014, Sena's inevitable charge of dokha will not fly with the mango manoos. Sena broke the alliance. They were given an opportunity and ample time to cobble up their government and they failed! BJP will reluctantly agree to run a minority government to save the people from a re-elections and further instability.

All of these delays, chaos and confusing statements are classic Pawar tactics to leave everyone confused while he plots. He is just proving his dominance to UT who is increasingly desperate and scared that his gambit has failed miserably and making sure that UT understands that if/when a SS CM takes charge in MH the relationship between him and Pawar will be the same as that of Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi in UPA government.

Pawar for President is an obvious joke...there is no chance of that till he is acquitted in the moneylaundering case filed by ED.

At the moment the big picture is that Pawar Sr, Pawar Jr, Antonia, Pappu, Praful Patel, and others in NCP and INC are under law enforcement investigation with several cases under prosecution. The example of P. Chidambaram has also sent a chill down the spines of all corrupt netas. Recently BMC has been targeted by the taxmen, presumably this is striking at the heart of the Sh!t Sena's financial arrangements.

So ultimately all these parties NCP, INC, and SS have serious underlying issues that make it difficult for them to outwit the BJP either alone or together. It isn't much fun playing NCP-INC-SS politics in Maharashtra if you can't sleep at night worrying that you will end up in the slammer in Delhi.

Again I believe it is the underlying strength and transparency of NaMo Sarkar in Delhi, and the huge LS 2019 mandate, which is making it difficult for these crooks to actually go through with forming a ramshackle goremint. All the media reports on "vote share concerns", "ideology" etc are mostly irrelevant. INC voters in KL couldn't care two hoots about what INC and SS do in MH.

I think now the easiest option is BJP sarkar with NCP outside support, but the best option is that a majority of SS MLAs and MPs break away and merge with the BJP. I wonder what is going on with the SS MPs in Delhi. Getting the majority of them to break away would send a strong signal.

Not at all - exactly the reverse. It will show (if not already clear from the examples of JDU and TDP) that trying to weasel out of the NDA for frivolous reasons will be counterproductive. SS is already occupying the opposition benches now. JDU saw the light and came back, whereas TDP...well.

How does one know AS and NM are letting SS be ? What is on the surface in media outlets is not necessarily the reality. This is their usual approach when confronted with recalcitrant behavior - nearly total silence followed by tough and effective action.

In a broader sense, the churn created by NaMo and Shah within the different one-man/family-business parties, and decline of the INC, are good signs that Bharat is moving away from Western-style democracy that is not useful for our civilization. Binaries like left and right, liberal and conservative, etc are not useful to us. In Bharat the conflict is between dharma (Hindus/Vedic culture/other allies and affiliates) and adharma (alien religions/communism/foreign interference/terrorism/globalism). Dharma is rising up again and the adharmis are running helter-skelter and trying to coalesce into a coherent entity.

Not to go off track but there is a problem with offering war on platter to invaders who have obviously came to loot and plunder. Would shivaji done that in Panipat ? Prolly not.

In modern scenarios, it means bombing the fk outta supplies and tell the giant centerpede-looking armies to walk back from where they came.

In USA the slaveowner s mated nigros like animals and made next generation bigger in size - now the same practice has resulted in African Americans having such towering features. The bollywood seems to miss these little facts. Or infighting in Mughal camp. And such.

I think that CBN is a lost cause, for reasons all of his own making and his perfidious ambition and also the very sticky fingers which is his trademark, a trademark that is inherent in all southern parties who do not separate the party and the state, financially speaking.

AS has publicly stated that the doors of the NDA are forever closed for the TDP.

He may very well have meant the leadership, given all their treacherous antics in NDA 1 and now in NDA 2. This was a long time coming.

Kishanganj, where Owaisi's party won, sits just across the state border from Uttar Dinajpur district of WB. Uttar Dinajpur district is about 70% Muslim with Malda district (51% Muslim) to the south and Murshidabad district (66% Muslim) further south.

Owaisi's win in the neighboring assembly has made Mumtaz wary given the demographics in the adjoining Uttar Dinajpur and Malda / Murshidabad districts to the immediate south. A 5-10% vote split can make the difference a victory and a defeat in closely fought election. Bano-jee know that and has reason enough to be wary. If it was on the UP side on Bihar she wouldn't have cared much.

BJP will not mind Owaisi's entry into Bihar and Bengal politics at all.

Reality was in the worst famines in recorded Indian history, he spent a large part of the kingdom's wealth (which he believed was personally his) building useless structures like tombs & palaces, or adding to his personal collection of Jewels. Though he had numerous wives (he killed the first husband of his wife of Taj Mahal fame) and concubines, he was not averse to some incest with his daughter.

The Hindi textbook said that Shivaji's soldiers brought him the bibi & beti of a defeated (dead) Islamic invader in one of those shoulder-carried containers {to serve as Advisors, I suppose}. Shivaji chided his soldiers, and ordered them ( I mean the BB& Beti) rehabilitated with H&D {in high positions in the Mumbai film industry}, and apologized to them for his soldier's misunderstanding of his standards of conduct. And Advisors.

3. will MWF or can MWF be suitable for navy as well or are they hell bent on TEDBF AND if that is the case then why not thus modify AMCA naval version and be done with it.
Why this tamasha for another 10 years
We could identify common engine maker for all the above and ask them to set up a manufacturing unit in India. And also any chance of supportin Kaveri by the same???
The reason I am asking is:
1. General elections in 2024 Kaun ayega kya patha??
2. New ACM in a couple of yrs What he is going to do
3. Babu log aka Kabab me haddi always there
4. Concerned Liberandus aka sinha/shourie/poori etcs will always be there
5. And lastly but most importantly the 'Aam Admi' what he is going to do and who will he vote in 2024??
If any two/three of the above 5 changes then the tamasha will repeat
Answers to questions that I can answer:
1. IAF has said they will source new combat planes from India only. Rafale is last buy. having said that the M2Ks will be quite olsd and need replacement. If you note MkII is almost same as M2K in specs. And the trio: DRDO, IAF, and HAL are concentrating on achievable and doable. All under watchful eye.
2. The MkII acquisition is regardless of AMCA. Both are needed in their own time. So decouple the idea in the mind.
3. No. Very clearly all over the world an air force plane has never worked for the navy as there are differences in environments and requirements. Eg. F-4 Phantom et al. So Naval LCA will lead to Naval LCA MKII. TEDBF is future twin engine plane. I don't think the 57 planes requirement will be imported regardless what chatteratti say. If the Naval MKII is cancelled they will get the Naval LCA MKI as it is just now qualified.
Bonus question engine is national priority and will be take up as such.

Rest in political thread.

In future separate political from technical.
Next set.
1. 2024 BJP with even more majority. Take it in writing.
2. ACM are all good. Congress technique was to make ACM the scape goat for their scams. No such thing now. All are great officers.
3. Babu log used to be a haddi. Ever since Rajiv Gandhi govt collapsed on bribery charges in late 1980s till 2014 permanent govt of babus was running the state. Some were good and many are bad. Now they understand the "Return of the King" as 2014 and 2019 shows. I mean King is Praja not NaMo
4. They are just shills not concerned about anything except pocket books. See answer 3.
5. See answer 1.

BHU Students' Protest against Sanskrit Muslim Teacher is Absurd, Says Chief of RSS Language Wing
The national organisational secretary of the RSS's Sanskrit Bharti, Dev Pujari, said there is no limitation in learning a language and the students are on the wrong side of the issue.
Why am I not surprised, RSS is biggest fraud on indics, somehow they managed to make hindus believe that they are protectors of hindus, but are biggest jaichands worst or dhimmis at best. Had my suspicion since they supported SC verdict on sabarimala.

the drama of SS is for everyone to see...if it doesnt come with bigger majority then we're ourselves to blame...the only thing to be seen is will it be modi still be leading the charge then..but i dont want to think of that scenario...

this guy beat more than 20 other guys in the job interview.

How is the RSS at fault. They had no role in the selection process.

they should have just shut up and kept quiet or if they have opened their mouth, what could they have possibly said except for this.

just saying only.

regarding sabarimala, yes, they should have kept their bleddy mouths tightly shut.

They had no dog in the fight and also it was simply none of their business.

Chetak sir, that guy's selection is not RSS's fault, but RSS finding fault with students' position is their fault. The best they can do is keep their mouth shut and not try to act secular. It seems commies are taking BHU, the students there need our support in more ways than one.

BTW, beating 20 others is poor argument. Am sure many in BRF can beat many mullahs and imams in learning their religions' scriptures, but will people belonging to that faith accept an indic as a teacher of their religious scriptures?

No they wont. Alighar Uty is a case in example.

Many HINOs are defending this Muslim Sanskrit teacher appointment as they think the issue is that of teaching language only.
The BHU appointment is not in the Dept of Languages but in the Dept of Hindu Religion and in contravention of the founders requirement.

Karthik S saar,

I was talking about the legitimacy of the selection process is all.

Also, please bear in mind that there is an international conspiracy to malign and cast the RSS as an extremist or even a terrorist organization by the commies/naxals/BIF and interconnected religious fundoos.

The RSS is trying to counter that.

They should actually be hiring some really good lobbyists or image consultants to advise them but what to do, such things are not in their age old, hide bound khaki knicker DNA and that may actually their strongest point. It shows a very strong organizational character.

As usual, ramana saar's input is revelatory and that puts a very different complexion on the matter.

Had my suspicion since they supported SC verdict on sabarimala.
May I interject a small does of sanity (and wisdom that comes from living in caves and hiding from Bredators..)

Saying
I accept the Supreme Court Verdict
is very different from saying
In my deep knowlidj of the Indian Legal Code, it is my considered opinion that the Supreme Court verdict is correct, and I SUPPORT it.
The former is smart, and keeps Bredators away. Wise. Can be done while submitting a Review Betishun under the table, so that one can **ACCEPT** the revised verdict as well.
The latter is stupid, since the Supreme Court does not **NEEED** ur opinion. See "fa*t in the thunderstorm Level of Importance" elsewhere.
OTOH, OPPOSING a Supreme Court verdict is not just stupid, it is counterproductive. You should always RESPECT the Supreme Court even when you say:
Their Honners are ahead of as many as 1000 people in India, in their level of wisdom.
