London's constituencies are largely working class ordinary folk who save very little and the exceptions are the absolute elite. Manchester's mining towns have voted for the Tories, North East England and Midlands have seen some of the largest swing against Labour although not good enough to widen the gap. Also note London is largely reliant on EU workers and voted remain in the referendum.

Lots of voter fatigue visible in this election. BoJo was astute in realizing that people were just done with 3 years of endless bickering and that in politics there's always a case of telling people what they want to hear, even if it's what they need in their best interests. "Just get it done" is a compelling message at this point. Labour had no clear opposing message because they have no clear position on anything.

In Northern Ireland, it the SDLP (Social Democratic and Labour Party), they are different from Lib Dem. Conservatives do not stand for seats in Northern Ireland as they have an agreement with the Unionist Parties to abstain as they themselves are a Unionist Party (officially called the Conservative and Unionist Party).

For the first time the Conservatives have actually made inroads into Wales (7 more seats) and have halved the number of seats in Scotland, probably because of the missing Ruth Davidson, of whom I quote,

"Davidson led the Scottish Conservatives into the 2016 Scottish election, where the party doubled its number of Scottish Parliament seats to 31, replacing Labour as the second largest party at Holyrood behind the Scottish National Party.[39] The election also saw Davidson, who had previously been a list MSP, win the constituency of Edinburgh Central from the SNP with 10,399 votes."

Boris Johnson has a strong enough majority to ignore SNP's demands for a second Scottish independence referendum.
Also recent opinion polls have shown a slight drop in Scottish support for independence.

Northern Ireland is the interesting unknown. The pro-UK have suffered for their association with the Tory government that betrayed them -- Boris Johnson in his previous government drew a boundary between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK to get his Brexit deal, despite the Unionists being an essential part of his coalition. Now BJ doesn't need them. But it is not clear that the pro-Ireland have gained a lot of strength either.

From Belfast:
https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news ... 81518.html
Election results bring Scottish independence and Irish unity to the fore
The SNP made a series of gains in Scotland, with leader Nicola Sturgeon declaring that she has a “renewed, refreshed and strengthened” mandate for a second vote on Scottish independence.

And in Northern Ireland, the DUP – the party determined to keep Northern Ireland within the Union – had a disastrous result with deputy leader Nigel Dodds losing his seat in an unprecedented defeat to Sinn Fein’s John Finucane.
Ms Sturgeon will write to the Prime Minister before Christmas to formally demand Holyrood be given the power to hold a second vote on independence.

While Mr Johnson has made it clear he will block such a ballot, Ms Sturgeon said the Tories must “reflect very carefully” on the result of the election.

She said: “Scotland can’t be kept in the UK against its will. It can only do that by consent, therefore Scotland has to have the ability to decide that question.

“Then it is up to the people of Scotland what decision they make.”
Sinn Fein believes Brexit offers fresh opportunities for a United Ireland if Remain-supporting Northern Ireland is taken out of the EU against its will next year.

The Northern Ireland Secretary can call a border poll if he or she deems it likely that a majority in the region would vote to leave the UK and form a united Ireland. The Republic of Ireland would then vote depending on the result of that referendum.

A poll in September showed there is a slight majority for Irish unification among people in Northern Ireland.

The survey asked voters for their preference “in the event of a referendum on whether or not Northern Ireland should remain part of the United Kingdom”.

A total of 45% told the Lord Ashcroft poll they would vote to stay in the UK and 46% said they would choose to leave and join the Republic of Ireland.

Meanwhile a poll last week showed that support for independence in Scotland has fallen.

A total of 56% of respondents to a YouGov survey for the Times said they would vote No in a future independence referendum, with 44% voting Yes.

Well, if England will not let go of Scotland, maybe the answer is a Scottish Republican Army? We can even provide moral, diplomatic and political support to the Scots in their struggle for independence from England :lol: . Muslim Council of Britain says there's 'palpable sense of fear amongst Muslim communities' following Tory victory {15h ago 16:09}
Mr Johnson commands a majority, but there is a palpable sense of fear amongst Muslim communities around the country. We entered the election campaign period with longstanding concerns about bigotry in our politics and our governing party. Now we worry that Islamophobia is “oven-ready” for government. Mr Johnson has been entrusted with huge power, and we pray it is exercised responsibly for all Britons.

We understand that the prime minister insists that he is a one nation Tory. We earnestly hope that is the case and urge him to lead from the centre and engage with all communities.

Some one recently wrote an article that Left is Global where as Right is Local by their very nature. One reason why left champions a border less world where as right champions border control. Makes sense.

This is NOT the piece I am referencing above. Wasn't going to post this but here it is. I read a couple of hours back. Is about Labour in UK but could easily be describing CON/Left of India today.

The main article is about the U.K., the quote below is more general.
How Boris Johnson’s Brexit Won
The central demographic fact of Western democracy is that there aren’t enough young people, and whoever is taking on Trump needs to focus on the crucial fact that we are the first societies in human history where the old outnumber the young.
[The economist] Thomas Piketty has made this point repeatedly, which is that the workers aren’t voting for the parties of the center-left—our party is called the Labour Party, but it is no longer the party of labor. It is the party of university graduates, of big cities, and of young people, and the other crucial thing that will emerge when people break down the vote in this election is that there is here, as there was in the Brexit vote and the Trump election, a big, big generational divide. Younger voters will still vote Labour, but we are learning with every one of these elections that younger voters will consistently be outvoted by people over the age of forty-five, and older voters in this election have gone overwhelmingly to the Conservatives, including older working-class voters.

The important thing to point out is the amazing similarity between Scotchistan and Cash More. Same mountainous terrain, same lots of unoccupied land, same traditions of killing each other. We once took a guided bus tour to the Holy Shrine of Loch Ness:
This is where the Mcdhonnells massacred the Campbells..... and this is where the Campbells burned the Mcdhonnells' village...
So it is a fine place for EU pakis to settle and sit on the ridges like in Kargil.

BoJo stuck to the basic issue.Brexit.Which the country wanted in the earlier referendum.Labour and Corbyn tried to be both remainers and leavers, but Corbyn's fence sitting saw the spear point well and truly shafting his nether orifice in right royal fashion! Corbyn and his fellow traveller Labourite's stale Socialist supper offered on his manifesto menu was unacceptable to the Brit. voters, even to his own tribe of Labourites. They found it ancient, unappetising and inedible, a stale menu binned before.
He failed to understand the core issues at hhome and can now spend the rest of his days in his allotment pottering about in the garden growing brussel sprouts! Pun intended.

To be sung to the tune of Goldfinger.Britain's new her 0010!

Bofinger,he da man, da man wid da bad-ass touch,da spider's touch,
Such a man wid da golden hair,
No. 10 is his lusty lair,
His gold finger beckons you in,
To enter his web of sin,
But don't go in....

Golden words he will pour in your ear,
But his lies ( and old school ties) won't disguise your fear,
For a British belle knows when he's fingered her,
It's the kiss of Brexit from PM Bowfinger.

British belle beware of his heart of gold....
His heart is cold....
Golden words he will pur in your ear,
But his lies ( and old Etonian ties ) won't disguise your fear,
For a British belle knows when he's fingered her,
It's the kiss of Brexit from PM Bowfinger....

I understand the Mozzie tribes are sore dismayed.Mayor Sadiq K pissed off mightily." The racists are in", one quote. BoJo has a great opportunity to keep Britain British..in the old- fashioned understanding of the phrase, not the Blairite " all inclusive" version watering down Brit. traditional values and culture. However great damage has already been done over the last few decades and Mozzies allegedly rising to the top in birth rates will in a few decades upset the demographic applecart unless some strong measures are taken. They already are top dogs in certain regions.
Scotland will gravitate towards independence and BoJo may not be able to hold it back.Scotland and its people are in truth another nation.

How the British schemed to give Kashmir to Pakistan.

Once accession to Pakistan appeared unlikely, the British instituted Operations Gulmarg and Datta Khel  respectively  to foil possible accession to India.

Kashmir's Untold Story Declassified has not come a day too soon given that no state -- now a Union Territory -- has witnessed so much turmoil and received so much attention in the last 70 years.

Written jointly by Iqbal Chand Malhotra and Maroof Raza , the book  looks at why the Kashmir valley has been in a state of turmoil for 72 years and why China and its client State Pakistan will continue to back militancy in the years to come.

Malhotra, chairman of AIM Television, produced several documentaries on Kashmir before he and Raza, a strategic affairs expert who anchors a programme on this subject for the Times Now television channel, got down to the task of putting this book together.

"By sustaining the militancy and hybrid war currently on in Jammu and Kashmir, China is seeking to permanently thwart India's attempts to use modern hydrology, to prevent us from tapping into the 19.48% of the waters of the Indus that we are entitled to," Malhotra tells Rediff.com Contributor Rashme Sehgal.

Your book  highlights how a conspiracy was hatched around the erstwhile maharaja of J&K Hari Singh  to ensure that he acceded to Pakistan and not India. Why did this plan prove to be a  failure?

The British deep state of which Lord Hastings Ismay (Viceroy Lord Louis Mountbatten's chief of staff) and  NWFP (North West Frontier Province) Governor Sir George Cunningham were a part  wanted the whole principality of Jammu and Kashmir to accede to Pakistan.

As long as the principality's prime minister Ram Chandra Kak was in the saddle, they were confident that Kak would steer the state towards accession with Pakistan. Once Kak was dismissed by Maharaja Hari Singh and accession to Pakistan appeared unlikely, the British instituted Operations Gulmarg and Datta Khel  respectively  to foil possible accession to India.

This happened because Major Onkar Singh Kalkat, a Sikh officer, gained access to the British devised invasion  plans. Major Kalkat was waiting to hand over charge of the brigade  when a demi-official letter arrived from General Sir Frank Messervy stationed at the general headquarters in Rawalpindi.

Attached to the letter was an appendix titled 'Operation Gulmarg - The Plan for the Invasion and Capture of Kashmir' with the operations expected to commence on October 20 1947. Major Kalkat managed to escape from the frontier settlement of Mir Ali Mirali by the skin of his teeth, arriving in Delhi on October 18 1947. He informed then defence minister Sardar Baldev Singh of this plan on October 19, 1947. Sardar Baldev Singh asked the British staffed intelligence directorate to verify Major Kalkat's account, but they paid no heed to it.

It was only after the invasion had started in full swing that Major Kalkat's warning was taken seriously. He was   taken to meet  Pandit Nehru only on October 24, 1947. It is my guess that  it was  this snafu regarding Major Kalkat that made the British mercenaries, who were originally expected  to  lead the Kabailis or Pathan invaders, to  stand down and not lead the invasion.

The rest is history.

The plan for Operation Gulmarg actually started in 1943.

Yes, planning for Operation Gulmarg started way back in 1943. The British were certain Kashmir would go to Pakistan  and pulled out all the stops in advance to ensure this.Cunningham , in his second term  as governor of NWFP, had initiated the forming of the Tucker  committee  in 1944  that recommended that regular Indian army troops  be withdrawn from the Razmak, Wana and Khyber Pass garrisons and be replaced with scouts and khassadars. The northern boundaries  of British India  were to be defended by Muslim staffed Frontier Scouts and Frontier Constabulary. In 1943, the British withdrew the army from the north western borders and the withdrawal was completed by 1946. They were replaced by khassadars with  basic detachments of  2,000 of these paramilitary troops being officiated by British officers  called district officers.

There were around 25,000 khassadars with 20 to 40 British officers overseeing them. They would have achieved success had it not been for the show of courage shown by Major Kalkat.

Your book also highlights how the British deep state was active in ensuring Gilgit was taken over by Pakistan. Its strategic importance was something Indian rulers seemed oblivious of.

Unfortunately, the Indian political leadership of that time led by Pandit Nehru were singularly obsessed with the mistaken notion that Sheikh Abdullah called all the shots. However, Abdullah only represented the valley and no more. Abdullah was unacceptable in the other four regions of the state, namely Gilgit, Ladakh, Jammu and Muzaffarabad.

Gilgit shared an international border with Afghanistan,  Xinjiang  and Tibet.  How was Gilgit actually given over to Pakistan?

The conglomeration of the vassal States of Gilgit,  Puniyal, Koh-e-Khizr, Yasin,  Yashkoman and Chitral were called Gilgit Agency. In 1943, Colonel Roger Bacon took over as political agent in Gilgit.  Lord Mountbatten announced after becoming viceroy of India that the Gilgit lease would be rescinded on July 31 1947 so that it be returned to  Maharaja Hari Singh.

But Lord Ismay, Colonel Bacon and Major Brown in Gilgit had other plans. Major Brown asked the then governor Ghansara Singh, an appointee of Maharaja Hari Singh, to step down which he refused. This made way for Operation Datta Khel on the night of  November 4 , 1947 where Major Brown and his troops took siege of the governor's residence. A fierce gun battle followed and the governor and his staff were forced to surrender.
On November 17 , 1947, a Pakistani flag was flying over the governor's flag staff. It is obvious this operation was the brain child of the British deep state.

This seems to be a common chord  -- call it indifference or unawareness about the strategic importance of the regions around J&K
For example, when China acquired a large chunk of Aksai Chin, alarm bells should have rung in the Indian establishment, but this did not happen.

The Government of India knew about the Chinese intrusions and purported annexation in Aksai Chin from 1952 onwards.

Why then did the Indian government sign the Pancheel Agreement with China in 1954?

Why did India surrender its consulates in Kashgar, Sinkiang and Gartok in Tibet?

The Chinese followed the annexation of Sinkiang and Tibet by annexing a large chunk of Aksai Chin.  The central leadership  chose to ignore it and in fact bent over backwards to cede further sovereign territory in Tibet to China.   This was the principality of Minsar.

China had in 1959, wanted a part of the Gilgit Agency and especially the Shaksgam Valley with its 250 glaciers making it the most glaciated region in the world to be part of China. Were the Chinese conscious even then of the importance of  water that saw them push their expansionist design?

That is obvious, otherwise they wouldn't have entered into a territory swap with Pakistan in 1963;  they wouldn't have chosen Lop  Nor lake in Xinjiang for their nuclear testing site and they wouldn't have annexed the Aksai lake in Aksai Chin  having a catchment area of 8,000 sq  km  as compensation for their planned degradation of Lake Lop Nor  with nuclear waste.

Subsequent  to  this was that China attacked India on October 20,  1962 because they needed greater strategic depth to build the Aksai Chin highway.

The attack on October 20, 1962 by China was to politically consolidate their pre-existing annexation of Indian territory from 1952 onwards.
They were  primarily interested in avenging the Treaty of Chushul signed in 1842 between the Sikh empire, Tibet  and the  Daoguang  emperor of China, wherein China had conceded vast tracts in Tibet and Ladakh to the Sikhs.
The Chinese were interested in overthrowing the Treaty of Chushul which had caused them great humiliation and also emboldened the British officered Indian Army to storm the gates of the imperial capital Nanjing and submit the Daoguang emperor to yet another humiliation in the form of The Treaty of Nanjing signed also in 1842.

Making India bleed with a thousand cuts was not a strategy put in place by either  Zulfikar Ali Bhutto or Zia-ul Haq , but had its origins in the tenure of Pakistan's  longest serving ISI chief Major General  Robert Cawthome.

Major General  Cawthome  was ISI chief from 1949 to 1959 and devised and institutionalised the strategy of 'continuous proxy war' against India. It  was  he who established the fact that India was an existential threat to Pakistan. It was he who reciprocated the overtures of China's chief spymaster in the 1950s, Kang Sheng.

How successful was Zia-ul Haq's  operation? To turn Kashmiris away from sufism to hard line  Wahhabi Islam as also to cleanse  non-Muslims  from the  Kashmir valley? Why were the  valley's leaders and the central establishment napping through all these tumultuous developments?

Zia-ul Haq's strategy of converting Kashmiris to Wahhabi Islam has been almost 90% successful. His successors were  almost  100% successful in ethnically cleansing the valley of all Kashmiri Pandits.

In your book you state that militancy in Kashmir is set to intensify.

China is never going to give up on the waters of the Indus river.By sustaining the militancy and hybrid war currently on in Jammu and Kashmir, China is seeking to permanently thwart India's attempts to use modern hydrology, to prevent us from tapping into the 19.48% of the waters of the Indus that we are entitled to.

In your book you state that abrogation of Article 370 and the removal of Article 35A as well as freeing J&K  from the 'tyranny of   majoritarianism'  and  the  transformation of a state into UTs  will see a new political discourse in J&K  Has this happened or is it set to happen?

It is too early to comment on this.Let the delimitation of all the constituencies in the newly formed Union Territories first take place.

Corbyn revels in defeat while Johnson packs his victory speech with lies -The Guardian John CracelCorbyn revels in defeat while Johnson packs his victory speech with lies -The Guardian John Crace,

Shortly before 2.30am, Jeremy Corbyn arrived, smiling and waving to his supporters, at his Islington count. No one appeared to have told him that Labour was suffering its worst result at a general election since 1935 and was predicted to win fewer than 200 seats.

An hour later, once the declaration had been made, the severity of the defeat still hadn’t sunk in as the Labour leader began his acceptance speech. It was a disappointing night, he said. A setback, nothing more. If his manifesto had had a flaw, it was that it had been too good for the country. It had been the country’s fault that Labour had not won the election. The people had allowed themselves to be manipulated by the mainstream media into being distracted by Brexit.

However, even though he took no responsibility for Labour’s defeat, Corbyn did concede that he wouldn’t lead the party into another glorious general election. He would stand down, but in his own time. Only after he had been able to engineer a suitable replacement who would build on his magnificent legacy and lead Labour to an even more crushing humiliation. The few Labour party supporters around the country who weren’t already paralytically drunk, each downed an entire bottle of scotch.

Just minutes later, Boris Johnson gave his own acceptance speech, trying and failing not to smirk too obviously. This was his birthright. The man who didn’t give a **** about anything was free to do whatever the **** he wanted. Astonishingly, even though Boris kept his speech down to just a few minutes, he still managed to squeeze a few lies into it. Just imagine. Your first act on being re-elected prime minister is to lie to the entire country. Start as you mean to go on. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.

Once the exit poll had landed there was a moment of gobsmacked silence in the ITV studios. This was way beyond anyone’s expectations. The biggest Tory victory since Margaret Thatcher in 1987. First to fill the dead air was George Osborne, suddenly morphing into Johnson’s No 1 fanboy. He’d always loved Boris. Boris could now do whatever he wanted. And he sincerely hoped that Boris might look favourably on him. “I’m George. Fly me.” No one can say that Osborne hasn’t built a lucrative career out of blatant insincerity. The reality is that he loathes Boris.

Other talking heads came and went. Michael Gove briefly appeared to declare that he wanted the Tory party to heal divisions in society. This from a man whose specialist subject is slashing at open wounds. A fool of finite jest. He even talked about the left behind northern towns as if he had any intention of doing anything but leave them even further behind.

As the first results came in, it had quickly become clear that the exit polls were more or less accurate. With Labour in meltdown over Brexit, the chatter turned to the renaissance of the SNP, the possibility of a second Scottish independence referendum and the demise of Jo Swinson who had triggered the election in the first place. All that was missing was a spokesperson from the People’s Vote campaign saying that now was not the right time for a second referendum. Maybe 2030 then.

The shark has well and truly been jumped and the truth has become a foreign country. And it’s the Tories who have been the worst offenders, adopting every trick out of the Steve Bannon/Donald Trump playbook. Why tell a small lie when you’re so much better off going big? And if you are caught out lying, never apologise. Just double down on it. Tell a lie often enough, then some people will believe it. And a substantial number had been dumb enough to fall for “Get Brexit done”. The most egregious lie of all.

This had been less of an election and more of an unpopularity contest. Boris and Corbyn were widely disliked and mistrusted throughout the country. All that had been at stake was which leader was hated the least. A race which Boris had won at a canter. No one expected him to deliver on the promises he had made, but they were less worried about that than the promises on which Labour might deliver.

So we were heading for a Tory government and a Brexit that would continue to divide the country. Hell, it was odds on that not even a majority of leavers would like the Brexit deal Boris ended up with. Not that Boris gave a toss. He was the World King. Entitlement rules OK. And in the meantime, Corbyn would soon be eased out. Written out of Labour’s history. A bad four-year dream that had cost the party and the country dear. Only a few faint echoes of his most loyal supporters could be heard. Sooner or later it would dawn on them that they had been pissing in the wind.

Why did so 'smart' left media and intelligentsia get all election wrong - Modi 2014/2019, Trump 2015, Brexit, UK 2019. Yet they claim that they are smartest and have God giver right to pontificate on all matters!!

British Indians have shown Corbyn his place, Sadiq Khan will go down next
Countdown begins
Abhinay Shukla, 14 December 2019

The sitting PM Boris Johnson has achieved a thumping majority, a first for the UK House of Commons since 2005, when Tony Blair of Labour Party had last won the elections with a clear majority. The Conservatives’ victory in the 650th and final contest of the election – the seat of St Ives, in Cornwall – took their total number of MPs up to 365 MPs. Labour finished on 203, the SNP 48, Liberal Democrats 11 and the DUP eight.
Jeremy Bernard Corbyn, leader of the Labour Party, has not only accepted defeat but also announced to step down, refusing to lead the party further in any forthcoming elections. Taking the Labour Party and its leader Jeremy Corbyn to the floor, the British Indians have shown the right place to the anti India gentleman and his party.
Labour’s “red wall” across the Midlands and the north of England – the bedrock of the party’s support for generations – crumbled as the Conservatives claimed key marginal seats. Former mining towns like Workington, which was seen as representative of the voters parties needed to win over, backed the Tories. Even, Tony Blair’s former constituency of Sedgefield went blue (Tory), as did West Bromwich East, vacated by former Labour deputy leader Tom Watson.
The role of the British Indian community in this election was tremendous as it has been considered a supporter of the Labour Party but this time it had supported the Tories especially the prime minister himself, who has earned the community’s trust.
Now realizing that his chances of getting re-elected are looking slim, Sadiq Khan has expressed frustration and has described the poll as a “catastrophe” for the party. The mayor of London said for the fourth time in a row Labour had “failed” to put forward a compelling case to the British public.
His remarks came after Corbyn said he would quit in “the early part of next year”, in his first interview since Boris Johnson was returned to Downing Street with the biggest Tories majority in decades. People of the country have rejected the Islamist-driven leadership of Jeremy Corbyn, his party has become a den of Islamist while its leaders have become sympathisers of Islamic terrorism. Corbyn left no stones unturned in nurturing the Islamists in Britain even his party’s manifesto seemed to be engulfing these elements. It would have been a drastic situation for Britain if he had been elected PM of the country.
Labour Party had invited the wrath of the Indian community by protecting and nurturing the Khalistanis and Islamists. It had become an open supporter of these elements however this is a befitting slap for every anti India element including Khalistanis and Islamists. London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had won the election of 2016 with an overwhelming support of the Indian community is all set to feel its wrath in 2020 mayoral election, in which he would be seeking a re-election. With Sadiq Khan now lashing out at Corbyn for this terrible election it has become clearer that Sadiq Khan has realized that the next target of the British Indians would be him.

Doesn't matter. The important thing is helping them create a Scottish Republican Army and give them political, moral and diplomatic support. We should talk of the woes of occupied Scotland in UN, and offer to mediate between the two to come to an amicable settlement .....
Nicola Sturgeon was one of the first to condemn India on the watering down of Art 370. No love lost there, besides she will keep pushing for IndyRef2 in the Commons, at some point the Tories will have to consent to devolve powers to the Scottish assembly, hypothetically they could wait until EU is at its lowest.

during the colonial times, weren't the scots always at the forefront among those who plundered India, much more than all the other plunderers who thought it their god given right to steal and loot the natives.

they are quite a miserly lot

Labour supporters whining about 'Hindu nationalist' nexus with Conservatives is funny. When you side with Islamists, other people orient themselves to secure their interests.

People won't twiddle thumbs when their home country's embassy is vandalised by Labour support base.

i feel sorry for them esp if they become "independent" ., their inherent complexes vs the British and Asians will make the world a quite difficult place to exist..for them., they think the east Europeans work for them! Sturgeon or no Sturgeon the SNP is going from foolish to idiotic.( maybe they love Trump ! )..only thing I like about them is Scotch single malt esp the peaty one

The point is not about whether they love us or not. Pakistanis don't love US or UK. It is about creating a problem for UK. This can be utilised later to our advantage.

They can have anyone for their army [in fact, I prefer not to waste Hindu blood there], but ensuring that they have an army.
