Amazing specs! And completely in line with the fantastic article that Indranil & Nilesh Rane wrote in Delhi Defence Review. If they meet the spec, this baby will beat Gripen-E specs on every parameter except maybe ferry range (& even there, fall short only by a little bit)
Cybaru: where did you get 3400 Kgs fuel? The poster doesn't mention it. Indranil's article estimates 3300 Kgs fuel

Just estimating from the poster...
Re: Tejas Mk2 Medium Weight Fighter: News & Discussion - 23 February 2019
Take off clean - empty weight. I guess Pilot weight, fluids etc not much else other than fuel should make this difference. Obogs means no oxygen tanks are required.
Re: Tejas Mk2 Medium Weight Fighter: News & Discussion - 23 February 2019
The most intriguing thing that I have read on the new MWF poster is "prodded gun" as external store. I had heard that they were considering that for Mk1 a few years back, but did not go for it. May be the MWF will have no internal gun.
The arguments for podded gun was that the conformal pod on the centerline pylon did not create G limitations. Overall airframe design gets simplified. This significantly reduces empty and clean takeoff weights when the gun is not carried. Disadvantage is additional drag and usage of a pylon.

Re: Tejas Mk2 Medium Weight Fighter: News & Discussion - 23 February 2019
and can a podded gun handle the recoil...is any modern plane use them? Why MK2?
Re: Tejas Mk2 Medium Weight Fighter: News & Discussion - 23 February 2019
Yes, the most modern plane F-35B and F-35C
Re: Tejas Mk2 Medium Weight Fighter: News & Discussion - 23 February 2019
I too was surprised to see a podded gun on the Mk2/MWF. There was talk of moving the gun into the wing root - wonder what happened with that? It will make the design simpler and lighter, reduce vibrations and allow qualification of the LRUs to lower levels of shocks.Indranil wrote:The most intriguing thing that I have read on the new MWF poster is "prodded gun" as external store. It may sound old school but I still believe a fighter should have an internal gun because if and when you dodge incoming BVR shots, you are in a merge where you need CCMs and a gun if CCMs miss too. This did happen in early combat over Vietnam with F-4s and thus all fighters since then have had internal guns.

These mock-ups are made from rough sketches by the local fabricators on L1 basis. They give only a general representation. Please do not read too much into them.Avinandan wrote: 2 observations.
1. The perforations in the air brakes were no equally spaced in Mk1
However here in MWF they are equally spaced
2. Additional perforations/holes over mid wing body and near air intake. What are those for ?

MK2 cockpit video. I hate the greenish tinge of the display, SPORT was much better.
Re: Tejas Mk2 Medium Weight Fighter: News & Discussion - 23 February 2019
Guys, HVT Sir is reportedly looking at names for the Tejas Mk2 variant. Will post the tweet.

Please post your name choice in the link above. Do not post it in here. HVT Sir will likely never see it.
You guys know me. I only go with Bollywood names
Rambha (Su-30MKI), Katrina (Rafale), etc...

No, FSED has been approved in 2009 and DRDO has asked for additional funds for the same phase. That should include Conceptual to final FOC work.Zynda wrote:JayS, I meant Detailed Design Phase of Mk.2 has been sanctioned. I believe the initial amount seeded back in 2009 would be for platform (configuration) & capability studies. If DRDO had requested funds in 2018, then it would have been "approved" recently onlee and this aligns with recent uptick in hiring activity. According to Abduls who will be going there, the advertisement for this came around mid-2019. Officially, massive hiring can happen onlee when it is tied to a project...

Do we have an independant varification for this statement other than that IDRW article..??sankum wrote:
Wingtips can carry Astra BVRAAM.
Re: Tejas Mk2 Medium Weight Fighter: News & Discussion - 23 February 2019
No , the idrw article is copy of tarmak video where the speaker while talking of wingtip station starts talking that astra missile will be integrated. He doesn't say that it is on wing tip . This is idrw copy interpretation of that video in words.
The mention of podded gun in the Tejas mk2 infoboard gives rise to speculation that 4 CCM may be a standard fit in place of internal cannon.

Bharat - Ratna for Kuntal Biswas.
Finally, after a long delay, one critical gap in capability is getting fulfilled where Pakis and Chinis used to rule the roost.
Eye candy at it's best (even though there are a few rare gaps in technical drawing like the incorrect shape of the ram air inlet at the tail fin).

Except for the size of the pilot and the relative size of the cockpit where he's got it wrong, the overall quality of the artwork is amazing.
Re: Tejas Mk2 Medium Weight Fighter: News & Discussion - 23 February 2019
This is drool worthy stuff !!! I agree , finally some real eye candy stuff. Can someone please forward it to HAL and ADA reps - tell them that this how renderings should be created for brochure ware.
The watermark on the images sucks - hope we does watermark towards the bottom or towards the corner..

Re: Tejas Mk2 Medium Weight Fighter: News & Discussion - 23 February 2019
He has too put the watermarks there, otherwise IDRW will put its watermark on it.
Re: Tejas Mk2 Medium Weight Fighter: News & Discussion - 23 February 2019
If it was me putting in so much effort into these renderings, I'd put even bigger and more obtrusive watermarks. As Rakesh mentioned, thieving outlets like IDRW wouldn't hesitate to steal his images and put their own watermarks on it. They've done it in the past.

Vajra looks more apt for a fighter with the potential to replace the mirages

Guys, please suggest the names to @hvtiaf on Twitter. Posting them here will have no effect. It just clutters up the thread.
