I would like to see
1. A US MMRCA -- Chini folks don't like it when they see US arms being sold to India.
2. More "strategic" deals - nuclear engine designs for subs.
Also in case we have a Dem president like Bernie Sanders OR Chelsea Clinton THEN THROUGH SANCTIONS THEY CAN cripple IAF easily, may force us to submit to porkis
But by American arms and the cutting edge of IAF being somewhat American, one signals to the Chinese, our main rivals - that India now is similar as is South Korea or Japan or Taiwan - a strong neighbour who is also caging the Panda in a cage of steel.
When your neighbour strongly believes in Shadow-Play, as the Chinese do, then better engage them with some Shadow's of our own.
I have Chinese friends - and used to have good strategic discussions with them - they were frankly horrified that India could get American arms and ammo. The JSF in particular.
That's the reason to get American arms and ammo. Nothing says war-fighting capability like 700 billion USD spent annually and nothing says that one is serious about one's political objectives, than getting into that supply chain.
I want India to be part of the biggest arms supply chain in the world, the US one.
