Sikh community in Lakewood demands hate crime charges after store owner is run over
https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/c ... s-run-over
"The attacker started going off on them, telling them that they didn’t belong in this country, telling them that they were from the Middle East," Amrith Kaur Aakre, legal director for the Sikh Coalition said.
Breemen faces a long list of charges including attempted murder, but the Sikh community wants him charged with a hate crime. They believe there is clear evidence the crime was motivated by bias because Breemen told Singh to go back to his country and told officers he was an Arab.
"Terrible crimes of violence occurred here but that is not the underlying offense. The underlying offense is the bias motivation," Aakre said.

There are many such Hindu idols all over the US. This is where indic organizations in US fail Hindus. I see so many Hindu organizations and temples take donations and go on photo op by donating to already well to do mainstream places. Instead, they should have been utilizing every penny of such donations for Hindu causes. I also blame Hindus who continue to donate without grilling temple managements.
This is also a failure on Indian embassy.

Moving Europe troops to counter China threat to India and other countries: US.
In a statement that pitches the US as a factor in the IndiaChina military face-off, secretary of state Mike Pompeo said on Thursday that China’s “threats to India” and Southeast Asia were among the main reasons for the US’s move to reduce its troops in Europe.
The decision to draw down troops in Germany was part of a well-thought out strategy because they were being moved to other places, Pompeo
told the Brussels Forum. US President Donald Trump recently announced that the US would be reducing troops from Germany, a decision that’s
angered EU countries.
The actions of the Chinese Communist Party, Pompeo said, meant there were “threats to India” and countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and the South China Sea. “We are going to make sure we are postured appropriately to counter the PLA. We think that is the challenge of our time and we are going to make sure we have resources in place to do that,” he said.
Running through a list of aggressive Chinese actions, Pompeo spoke about the “bloody border confrontation with India”, Beijing’s activities in the South China Sea and its predatory economic policies. He also announced that the US and the EU would start a dialogue on China and the challenges it poses. It would help the trans-Atlantic alliance to build a “common understanding of the threat posed by China”. Pompeo said the two sides needed “a collective data set” on China’s actions so the two could take action together. Europe is often accused of being “naive” about China, taking a much more benevolent attitude to China’s designs.
Asked whether Huawei was part of the Chinese “surveillance state”, he said Chinese security forces personnel worked on the top floor of the company headquarters and Chinese law required Huawei to pass any data, including personal, to the Chinese Communist Party whenever the latter asked.
On Wednesday, Pompeo had flagged what he called “clean telcos”, that is, companies that were “free” of Chinese influence. “The tide is turning towards trusted 5G vendors and away from Huawei. The world’s leading telecom companies — Telefonica, Orange, Jio, Telstra and many more — are becoming ‘clean telcos’. They are rejecting doing business with tools of the CCP surveillance state, like Huawei,” he said.

Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
A well thought out strategy!! Sure. Since Trump could not get Germany to pay more for stationing US troops in Germany.
And, those troops being withdrawn from Germany ...... are coming back to defend America's borders.
Or perhaps roll down a street in front of the White House for his annual parade.
Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
With Chinese courting Germans by allowing their businesses inside China first, it does bring up the topic of whether EU will stand with US in so far fake US vs China WWE fight.

This has been covered before. Does Biden have any agenda on paper for Hindu American community? If not then no votes for Biden. There are more Muslims in this world than Hindus. A person caring for rights of minorities would have written about Hindu rights over muslim rights.
Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden demands the ‘restoration of people’s rights’ in Kashmir; expresses his disapproval for CAA-NRC
https://www.opindia.com/2020/06/democra ... r-caa-nrc/
A policy paper—’Joe Biden’s agenda for Muslim American community’ was posted recently on his campaign website, which said that the measures (the CAA and the National Register of Citizens) are irreconcilable with the country’s long tradition of secularism and with sustaining a multi-ethnic and multi-religious democracy.
A group of Hindu Americans contacted Biden campaign to express their displeasure over the language used for India and urged it to reassess its views on India. The group has aso sought a similar policy paper on Hindu Americans.
However, the Biden campaign did not respond questions in this regard.

Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
Biden's inner circle has many Muslims/Pakistanis. There's a SuperPAC called the AAPI, which is chaired by a Paki called Dilawar Syed, who was also associated with Obama. Weirdly enough, there's a guy called Amit Jani on the AAPI team, but he's either just a token 'Director', or a deracinated MUTU.
Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
The current reading per news reports is that Biden has a comfortable lead over Trump and could be elected as POTUS come Nov 2020. I am stretching CT here but I think it is possible that Nidhi Razdan might be going to Harvard to advise new GOTUS on certain matters about current Indian Administration & current Indian thinking etc. She possibly may have some right insider knowledge at various levels of administration which GOTUS might use at appropriate times. She obviously is not the only subject matter expert and she would be one of many...I think she may being moved to US to prevent any sort of legal action that may be invited in India with the kind of work/content she is being contracted for. All the above is CTs ATM but I do hope I am wrong.

Countering China's aggression: US bill seeks to train Indian fighter pilots
NEW DELHI: The United States will offer fighter jet training to India, Japan and Australia even as it plans multiple initiatives to counter China’s aggression across Asia Pacific including its standoff with India along the Line of Actual Control.
The National Defence Authorization Act (NDAA) for the 2021 fiscal year starting October, which the US Senate took up on Thursday, seeks fighter jet training detachment for India, Japan and Australia in the US Pacific territory of Guam.
Further, secretary of state Mike Pompeo on Thursday said the US is moving troops from Europe and deploying them to other places in response to the Chinese threat to India and Southeast Asian nations.

Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
Well US is not going to provide training on MKIs. Selling F-xx maal must be the motivation.
Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
Yes, sales would be the only motivation. Imagine that wanting to sell these and just taking care of basic legality. There's remote possibility of providing F-xx for immediate assistance but that can't help any unless a war is some time away. For long term quad, it would make sense but that's too long term.
If meant to really send signals to Chinese then they would have approached Congress for multitude of other items.

I read the article in full and at the end wondered why there was a need to write a 500 word long meandering article. It can basically be summarized as Asians (including Desis) should start caring about BLM even if their homes and businesses are burned down by the BLM rioters. We should carry our fair share of burden of making Blacks successful and how Ivy League colleges have overrepresentation of Asians compared to Blacks. Then the usual spiel about Caste, Cow and Curry.darshan wrote:Hopefully GoI has started keeping track of organizations like Equality Labs

Amid India-China stand-off, top US diplomat says 'good time for New Delhi to up its investment in Quad'
New Delhi: Amid heightened tensions between India and China, top US diplomat Alice G Wells said it is “good time for New Delhi to up its investment in Quad”.
“The appearance of privileging BRIC/RIC meetings over engagement with like-minded partners is discordant,” she further added.
Wells has backed India over the current border row with China and last month she said that the US will always stand with India in pushing back against constant Chinese probing of Indian sovereignty.
Quad, an alliance of the US, Japan, India and Australia, has been a serious cause of concern for China.
Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
Shouldn't it be other way around with others in quad upping their investment to convince India that the quad is for real?
Still calling this US China thing as WWE match. No permanent damages being done. And US has history of looking other way even after Chinese killed US soldiers in Korean war.
Nothing concrete so far

Sales pitch during a time like this is not going to win US any friends in India. If all they can do is sell some stuff for hard money then Russia has a better track record at that and comes with no strings attached. Give money at take the goods. Such a transaction based relationship is way better than the so called quad or whatever which only amounts to duplicitous self serving commentary. If the US wants to show us something, India is still waiting.

The purchase of 250 GE404 engines with spares is critical right now so Tejas Mk1A can quickly go into production. Exercise the contract options for the C-130J, P-8I, Chinooks, M777 howitzer (as it is 4,200 Kg), and Excalibur shells. Right now that would be most useful.Dilbu wrote:Sales pitch during a time like this is not going to win US any friends in India. It's not the best support, but the clearest from any US president since JFK when the PLA attacked India in coordination with the USSR moves in the Cuban missile crisis of Oct-Nov 1962.He said that China's aggressive stance along India-China border fits with larger pattern of Chinese aggression in other parts of world. These actions only confirm true nature of Chinese Communist Party.

^^^There's more to this story than meets the eye. One or both of the defendants were professors in the US who moved to greener pastures in industry. Usually, the folks who have worked in industry and then come to academia to retire are more respectable, IMHO. There may have been an overall snootiness attitude toward the defendant who may not be a PhD. I've come across this myself.
Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
Snooty people are despised. I live in London, born and bred in the UK. The Indian community is getting over caste hangups, I think one more generation and it will be forgotten.Mort Walker wrote:There's more to this story than meets the eye. What is the situation in the States?
Is castism prevalent amongst first generation ?
My social circle includes all castes, high, middle, low everyone. It is human nature for individuals to use one up man ship. Caste discrimination does happen, that cannot be denied. In the UK it is normally a sign of people who are trying to hold on to some sort of "Indianess" which they think sets them apart from others they deem less Indian.
It's dying out here. We have the extreme Ambedkarites and the Arya Samaj types who go to great lengths to tell you that they are Brahmin/Khatri and then that they don't believe in caste.
Is there much conflict in the states over this ?
Re: India-US relations: News and Discussions IV
In my social circles in US, I haven't noticed it. Matter of fact without someone telling me or I googling, I don't even know how to tell someone's caste. And now days, sometimes I can't even tell if the other person is Hindu. Lately, I seem to run into people with indic names but aren't Hindus.
I think that in GJ, it's not as much about caste as the pent up anger towards the reservation system. Decades ago that's the first time I looked at my school peers differently. Some got into colleges while many of us couldn't and our parents had to go through great lengths to get us in. That's when the first time I encountered reservation system and learned which of my schoolmates were of which caste.
