Mean while another 'minor blow to secularism' at KL.
Kerala man Subahani sentenced to life in prison for waging war against Iraq with ISIS.
*The sentence in the case was passed by Judge P Krishnakumar. ASP Shoukathali was the investigating officer in the case.
*This is the first case filed by the NIA for waging a war against India and nations friendly to it.

^ Bit confusing

Is the life term for waging war against Iraq or for attempting to wage war against India?

Also does the sentence for life mean the jihadi scum will be in for the rest of his life or can the Kerala state government reduce it to 14 years

Public also needs to demand stricter actions against police and not just the death penalty for the murderers. Hammer needs to come down on SHO and move up the chain. It's also worth noting that BIF has activated it's SM campaigns as there's no islamic angle here.

With how BIF selectively utilizes rape and murder incidents, Home ministry does need to look into motives. The incident did happen and that's undeniable. However, alternative motives need to be investigated here with BIF all ready to utilize the event.

It is heinous crime and I hope Yogiji takes the authorities to task & make sure the prosecution has an airtight case against the culprits. If the crime wasn't gruesome already it is now being reported that the victim's body was not handed over to the family but was burnt by the Police. The wailing image of the poor mother of the victim will unfortunately be milked by the opposition and the media for political gains. I hope the 4 accused if proven guilty never get to see the light of the day irrespective of their age.

It is for waging war against another 'India friendly' country, Iraq. Subhani has NOT committed any terrorism related crime in India. Also there is another case (again registered by NIA) of this chap participating in a criminal conspiracy at Kanakamala, Kannur Dt, North Kerala.
Also does the sentence for life mean the jihadi scum will be in for the rest of his life or can the Kerala state government reduce it to 14 years
That can only be ascertained after reading the court verdict. In some cases the courts add the clause that life imprisonment cannot be remitted and it means life in prison till death. But all said and done, even the 14 years will actually ensure that this chap's prime age is spent inside a prison. And we must also note that he still has provisions for appeal. As the verdict is from the NIA court which is like a District & Sessions court.

In that case, I hope that the case against him is watertight with evidence (which would not be from India) admissible in Indian courts (right upto the SC). I don't have any idea about how good/bad the Iraqi criminal system is, especially given it's sordid history (under dictators) and now considering the current mess it is in.

From his current look of around 40-45, he might well be prime mullah age if he gets out in 14 years. Plenty of time to be crowned as a martyr by supportive political parties/clergy and become an inspirational leader of the youth at that time..

Staffer at HAL’s Nashik unit held for spying for ISI
Oct 10, 2020, 04.17 AM IST
Mumbai/Nashik: The Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS) on Thursday arrested an assistant supervisor at defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL)’s facility near Nashik for spying. The accused, Dipak Shirsath, was allegedly providing classified information about Indian fighter aircraft to a handler in Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Shirsath, a lower-rung employee whose job entailed inspection of materials, is suspected to have been led into a honeytrap by the handler. Information handed over by him was linked to the manufacturing unit and other prohibited areas of the facility located at Ozar, 20 kms from Nashik. HAL Nashik makes SU-30 MKI aircraft. It is also engaged in overhauling both MiG 21 and SU-30.
The arrest comes a week after police at Deolali Camp, near Nashik, arrested a youth, Sanjeev Kumar, 21, for taking photos in the prohibited Army area and sending them to a WhatsApp group in Pakistan. Kumar, who was arrested a week ago, worked in Nashik. He was booked under the Official Secrets Act.

Ahead of FATF scrutiny, 19 forex dealers lose licence
TNN | Oct 13, 2020, 03.30 AM IST

NEW DELHI: In a move that seeks to ensure India’s compliance with Financial Action Task Force norms on money laundering, Reserve Bank of India cancelled licences of 19 big foreign exchange dealers who allegedly issued huge foreign currencies in cash to some high net-worth individuals, allegedly helping them stash black money in tax havens. In one case, a Mumbai-based forex dealer was found to have issued Rs 2,000 crore worth of forex based on forged documents.

The government has now engaged multiple agencies, including Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), to carry out further investigation of the ‘clients’ of these 19 forex dealers and trail the source of cash flows.
.
.
The ban on forex dealers comes ahead of India’s scrutiny of anti-money laundering infrastructure later this month by the Financial Action task Force (FATF), the Paris-based inter-governmental body that sets standards and monitors each country’s effectiveness in combating money laundering and terror financing.

While ED investigated the Mumbai forex dealer involving illegal forex transactions worth Rs 2,000 crore, the DRI busted a similar syndicate where it detected forex smuggling of more than Rs 180 crore out of the country. These foreign currencies were provided by money changers in cash based on bogus documents, according to an assessment report prepared by the Central Economic Intelligence Bureau (CEIB).

This is serious issue for us ... if we don't have laws, this pattern will be used by FB/Twitter in India

https://www.cnet.com/news/facebook-twit ... ter-biden/

Facebook, Twitter limit reach of New York Post article about Hunter Biden
Facebook's move to reduce the article's distribution until it's fact-checked is facing criticism from some Republicans and the Trump campaign.
Facebook and Twitter are limiting the reach of a New York Post article that alleges leaked emails show Joe Biden's son introduced the Democratic presidential nominee to a Ukrainian energy executive, raising questions about how social networks fact-check political content.

Andy Stone, a Facebook spokesman, said in a tweet the Wednesday article is eligible for fact-checking by the social network's third-party partners though he didn't indicate what prompted the review. The social network is "reducing its distribution" in the meantime.
Twitter said that it's blocking any links or images of the New York Post story about Biden's son, Hunter Biden. The company cited its policies against the distribution of hacked materials. Social media sites are worried about disinformation campaigns in which hackers release documents as part of an attempt to meddle in the Nov. 3 election

NIA suspects Dawood link in the Kerala gold smuggling scam, accused had travelled to D-gang locations in Tanzania: Reports
https://www.opindia.com/2020/10/nia-sus ... ling-scam/
...
The NIA said that two accused Ramees KT and Sharafudheen had travelled to Tanzania and visited shops in the African country where guns are sold. In Tanzania, Ramees attempted to procure a licence for the diamond business. According to NIA, Ramees later smuggled gold to the UAE and from the UAE he bought gold back to Kerala.

“Tanzania and Dubai are the main places where the Dawood gang is active. In fact, D-company’s affairs in Tanzania are handled by an Indian named Firoz Oasis. We suspect Ramees’s links with D-company. Ramees was caught by the Customs in November 2019 for smuggling 13.22 mm bore rifles. This happened when the gold smuggling was taking place,” NIA counsel Arjun Ambalapatta submitted before the court.

FDI cap in digital news meant to check Chinese, other foreign influence, says I&B official
By Vasudha Venugopal & Megha Mandavia, ET Bureau Last Updated: Oct 19, 2020, 08:15 AM IST

New Delhi | Bengaluru: The government’s clarification on Friday that the rule allowing 26% foreign direct investment (FDI) in digital news will apply to news aggregators, entities uploading streaming news on websites apps and other platforms as well as news agencies, is intended to check “foreign influence and interference in India’s domestic affairs, check Chinese and other overseas funding in news sites”, according to top I&B ministry officials. Importantly, the new rules will “create a level-playing field for all media”, as per these officials.

The presence of Chinese and foreign-owned digital media outlets that did not comply with the FDI cap, notably entities such as Dailyhunt, UC News, Opera News, and NewsDog were of concern, an official said. According to senior officials, the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) was the among the first to raise concerns over aggregators.

Foreign direct investment proposals with even the smallest Chinese holding will need government nod
By Sidhartha, TNN Last Updated: Oct 19, 2020, 09:51 AM IST

NEW DELHI: Foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals with even minuscule Chinese holding will need government approval, with the Centre abandoning its earlier plan to set a floor for “significant beneficial ownership”.

In April, when the Cabinet approved the plan for screening of FDI proposals from countries bordering India, the government had discussed the option to set the threshold at either 10%, the provision in the Companies Act, or 25%, the prescription in the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

But six months later, after multiple rounds of discussions, the view seems to have changed. “The (Cabinet) decision did not mention a minimum or maximum limit. So, even it is a small fraction, it will be covered,” a government official told TOI.

This is a pretty big win for our security forces. The dead terrorists "Dr" Saifullah was no doctor, just a jackass jihadi who was known for providing treatment to injured terrorists.

There is something that i've noticed over the last 2 to 3 yrs which is a bit of a concern , unlike from mid-90s to around 2012-13 when a large number of these jihadi cannon fodder were from across the border, the last couple of years many of the arrested and killed terrorists are local. This can mean two things (a) Pakistan is no longer able to push militants from across the border, atleast not in large numbers and (b) Despite demonetization there's still much work to be done to break the spine of terror financing network within the valley. During the period post 370 , there were reports that as the Saudis have reduced funding to many of these kashmiri jihadi tanzeems, that space has been filled by Iran , Qatar and Turkey.

Maoist encounter in Wayanad; 1 killed: Reports.
One suspected Maoist killed in police encounter in Kerala. Now, Kerala is generally not a known place for shoot outs with police force and deaths by encounter. More details are awaited as the identity of the dead person is not known. The place where the shoot out happened is not a very thinly populated area, AFAIK. It must be noted that this should be the third police encounter with Maoists, after the CPI(M) government took charge. In a way it gets as the "deep red" folks are encountered by the "light red" folks.

No foreign funds for farmer or student organisations participating in party politics
By Bharti Jain, TNN Last Updated: Nov 12, 2020, 10:08 AM IST

The rules require all entities seeking registration or prior permission under FCRA to be in existence for three years and having spent a minimum Rs 15 lakh on its core activities for the benefit of society during the last three financial years.

Importantly, the new rules add a sub-rule to Rule 3, stating that organisations specified under clauses (v) and (vi) of sub-rule 1 -- which cover organisation of farmers, workers, students, caste and community-based organisations not directly aligned to parties but which advance political interests of such groups, as well as outfits that habitually engage in political action like bandhs, hartal, rasta roko -- shall be considered of political nature if they participate in party politics. Entities of political nature are barred from receiving foreign contributions.

The new rules have also increased the application fee for grant of registration under FCRA to Rs 5,000 from Rs 3,000, and for grant of prior permission to Rs 10,000 from Rs 5,000; also, the fee to be paid with application for renewal of FCRA registration has also been fixed at Rs 5,000. Such fee should be submitted through a payment gateway. If no application for renewal of registration is received or the application is not accompanied by the requisite fee before the expiry of validity of the certificate of registration, such validity shall be deemed to have ceased from the date of completion of five years from the date of the grant of certificate of registration, as per the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) (Amendment) Rules, 2020 notified on Wednesday.

The Central government, in exceptional cases or in cases where a person is controlled by the Central government or a state government may waive the conditions requiring entities applying for registration/prior permission under FCRA to be in existence for three years and having spent Rs 15 lakh on its core activities aimed at benefit of the society for past three years. If an entity wants inclusion of its existing capital investment in assets like land, building, other permanent structures, vehicles, equipment in the computation of its spending during last three years, then the chief functionary shall give an undertaking that the assets shall be vested henceforth with the person till the validity of the certificate and they shall be utilised only for the activities covered under the Act and the rules made thereunder and shall not be diverted for any other purpose.

A person seeking prior permission for receipt of a specific amount from a specific donor for carrying out specific activities or projects, under the new rules, must submit a specific commitment letter from the donor indicating the amount of foreign contribution and the purpose for which it is proposed to be given. For the Indian recipient and foreign donor organisations having common members, prior permission shall be granted to the person provided the chief functionary of the recipient NGO is not a part of the donor organisation and 75% of the office-bearers or members of the governing body of the NGO are not members or employees of the foreign donor organisation. In case of foreign donor organisation being a single individual that individual shall not be the chief functionary or office bearer of the recipient person; and in case of a single foreign donor, 75% of the office bearers or members of the governing body of the recipient person shall not be the family members or close relatives of the donor.

In the new rules, after rule 9, a new rule 9A shall be inserted to regulate permission for receipt of foreign contribution in application for obtaining prior permission. If the value of foreign contribution on the date of final disposal of an application for obtaining prior permission exceeds Rs 1 crore, the Central government may permit receipt of foreign contribution in such instalments, as it may deem fit: provided that the second and subsequent instalment shall be released after submission of proof of utilisation of 75% of the foreign contribution received in the previous instalment and after field inquiry of the utilisation of foreign contribution.”

The fee to be paid along with application for the compounding of an offence under Section 41 has also been doubled to Rs 3,000 from Rs 1,500 earlier, and shall be submitted electronically.

Me thinks linking of FCRA licence renewal with this mandatory nominal fee is a smart legal move. This covers the
flanks (legal side) in case some entity ignores to renew their licence still receives funding in the meantime, it will be easy for GOI to freeze bank A/C and forfeit the money.

This news is came yesterday (& posted by other members in different threads) also needs to be in this thread for records...........

Government to govern Netflix, Amazon Prime and other OTT platforms
In a move that will have a far-reaching impact, the Union government has brought Over The Top (OTT) platforms, or video streaming service providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and others, under the ambit of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Currently, there is no law or autonomous body governing digital content. In a gazette notification issued on Wednesday and signed by President Ram Nath Kovind, online films, digital news and current affairs content now come under the purview of the I&B Ministry headed by Prakash Javadekar.

This will give the government control over OTT platforms, which were unregulated till now. From time to time, the government had indicated the necessity to monitor these platforms........
.
.
At present, the Press Council of India regulates the print media, the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) represents the news channels, the Advertising Standards Council of India regulates advertising, while the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) monitors films.
https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/ ... 072710.ece

Earlier, the Supreme Court had sought the Centre’s response on a petition for regulating OTT platforms by an autonomous body..........Others, like filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, welcomed the decision. “Brilliant news. Perversion and psychotic content must be regulated. They are slowly turning OTT into not just soft-*****, gore and abusive platform but also as religious, cultural and political weapons,” he said on Twitter.

However, internet research platform, Local Circles, in a recent report on OTT platforms, says that 63 per cent consumers want censorship or a code of conduct to be imposed on OTT platforms. Media industry expert, Ashish Kaul, agrees that a code of conduct is indeed necessary for OTT platforms. "In India sex and abusive language have become the go-to-market strategy for most digital content platforms. Our country has regulatory bodies for advertising and even tele-shopping. How can we get content which is not regulated?" questions Kaul, who believes in a country like India which has diverse cultures, a code of conduct for content is definitely needed.
Kaul believes that the regulation will compel content writers to push the envelope and come up with compelling content. "We already have beautiful content like Panchayat and Chaman Bahar which is realistic and has no sex and abusive language. Some bit of regulation will force content creators to think beyond sex and abuse."

Sensational revelation vy accused Christian Michel in the AW VVIP helo scam.

CM alleges that a former UK minister and the UK High Commission were heavily involved in ensuring that AW won the deal.According to CM,the UK HC " always seemed to have an idea when the CCS ( will meet),with time and place and what is on thd agenda". While denying any wrongdoing on the part of the UK HC,as it was their job to secure business for Britain, it is a staggering piece of information that there is/ was a mole at the highest level in South Block,in the MOD,PMO,wherever, with such classified access. This calls for a thorough inquiry by the security services and clean-up of the system as such leaks could also be available to other foreign govts. especially our enemies like the PRC and Pak.

ED sleuths have however not found out any documentary evidence ,understandable in the age of high-tech espionage, but studying the contours of the case available in open fora, it is apparent that AW had an inside line which helped them swing the deat. Details taken from an ET report today.

I'm hearing multiple reports that a large number (several hundreds) of Rohingyas have arrived in Hyderabad over the past several months, under the "panah" of Owaisi gang, and have been dispersed into the general peaceful population in Hyd and other TL towns. TRS Govt with is in full collusion with MIM has not only turned a blind eye but is in fact actively supplying them with ration cards, Adhaar IDs etc and funding their settlement with Govt money funnelled through various publicly announced schemes by ensuring the people now systematically make it into the beneficiaries list cementing them into the society. The WB model is being replicated quite cleverly.

I hope NIA is keeping a close watch on this to PREVENT this major security threat from installing itself and getting out of hand. If any forum member have access to listening ears where it matters, please pass on.

NGOs must be most strictly monitored, esp. religious ones who appear to be getting the maximum funding. Any NGO indulging in politics must be prevented from receiving any foreign funding,I think political parties are allowed to accept funds openly,pl. correct me if I'm wrong. The manipulation of students and the youth is a major technique to bring about public disorder especially in the capital and state capitals inciting students of the major universities like JNU.In recent years, the so-called "colour revolutions" in the former Warsaw Pact nations have now been found to have been sponsored by outside entities,in the UKR particularly by the EU which openly had some of their politicos on the ground in Kiev. The Leftist agenda ,supported in the past by the CPM,who have always had close ties to Beijing,CPI to Moscow earlier, has been to undermine the nationalist parties of the day and weaken the country so that it kowtows to Beijing as we have seen in the past ,with UPA diplomacy which relied upon support of the Left against the NDA.
Students world over being young, full of idealism and energy, have been the spearhead of mass protests .Paris in the '60s,anti-Vietnam war in the US and the Kent State shootings which put paid to LBJ's second term, the Tahir Sq. protests in Cairo, etc. It is a sad fact but greater monitoring and reduction in privacy of the individual through cyber-intel will increase proportionate to the anti-national activities of treacherous Quislings,Abdullahs and the support cast of foreign-funded NGOs.

Just wondering how they managed to secure Aadhar cards, Ration cards and even Voter IDs.

The numbers bandied around range from few thousands to nearly 70-80,000. At least 150 camps have been apparently established by MIM with TRS looking the other way. There are also large numbers of Pakistanis staying there on expired Visas.

Now, Owaisi is challenging even Modi to dare enter Old city to campaign, TRS leaders are mocking/teasing BJP leaders to go & campaign in old city if they have guts.. disgusting.

Sickulars in India are the worse than any other political entity in the world.
