Pakistan 'opens secret normalisation talks' with Israel
December 18, 2020

Pakistan has "opened secret normalisation talks" with Israel, Hebrew website Nziv has reported, quoting Israeli political sources. It is claimed that a British Airways flight landed at Ben Gurion International Airport on 20 November carrying Sayed Bukhari, an advisor to the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.
"Bukhari flew from Islamabad to London and then to Tel Aviv," said the sources. "He was warmly welcomed and accompanied directly to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem. "The Pakistani official is said to have carried a message from Khan, who had "made a strategic decision to start political and diplomatic talks with Israel." Bukhari stayed in Israel for a few days, during which he met with the head of the Mossad spy agency, Yossi Cohen, and handed the secret letter to him.
The Hebrew website claimed that, "Islamabad is currently keen to open a dialogue with Israel about normalising relations in order to help in relations with India, while taking advantage of the atmosphere resulting from the normalisation of relations between Israel and the UAE and talks of a similar step by Saudi Arabia."

Reported visit of top official to Israel sparks outcry in Pakistan
Pakistani commentators say envoy expressed Islamabad’s desire for closer ties with Jewish state, but warned cooperation would need to be ‘soft’ and ‘slow’ due to local opposition
By TOI staff, 18 December 2020

An adviser to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan visited Israel in late November and discussed moving toward better ties between the countries, which do not have formal relations, two prominent Pakistanis have claimed in recent days.
The claims from a Pakistani counterterror analyst and a UK-based political scientist who writes for a Pakistani newspaper have led to a backlash on Pakistani social media, with the country’s ruling party wading into the controversy to try and deflect blame toward the nation’s former ruler.
Their assertion came days after Israeli daily Israel Hayom reported that a top adviser from an unnamed Muslim-majority country visited Israel in late November for talks. The claims could not be independently verified.
Noor Dahri, Executive Director of the UK-based Islamic Theology of Counter Terrorism think tank, detailed the alleged visit in a series of Twitter posts on December 15. He said an unnamed close aide to Khan, who also has good ties with the Trump administration, was dispatched from Islamabad to Tel Aviv via London on November 20. There he supposedly met with several Foreign Ministry officials and conveyed Khan’s desire for closer relations between the two nations.
Islamabad wants Israel’s support in various international forums, including improving relations with Arab countries and its general international standing, Dahri said. But the aide stressed that any warming of ties would need to be “soft” and “slow” due to expected opposition within Pakistan.
Dahri said these overtures were “warmly welcomed” by the Israelis, who assured the aide they would make efforts on Pakistan’s behalf.

Why Pakistan will be next to normalize with Israel
Islamabad denies any move is afoot but a Saudi and UAE-backed normalization of ties could soon be in the offing
by FM Shakil December 7, 2020

PESHAWAR- Last month, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry rebutted a barrage of reports on social and mainstream media that suggested Islamabad was poised to restore diplomatic relations with Israel, a move that would inevitably send shock waves across the country’s many radical Islamic groups.
The Foreign Office was forced to intervene before the rumors sparked demonstration or worse, always close to the surface in a nation that frequently rallies to the anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian cause.
Despite the official denials, analysts, observers and even some officials reckon there is at least a shred of truth in the viral speculation considering the shifting winds in the Middle East and with rising signs Saudi Arabia could soon follow the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in normalizing ties with Israel.
It would mark a historic turn if Pakistan and Israel were to follow suit and formally normalize relations. Pakistan did not recognize Israel as a country when it was formed in 1948, a year after Pakistan won its independence. Pakistani passports still carry a stamp that proclaims that this document is valid for all countries worldwide except Israel.
Yet observers believe that the winds of change now sweeping over the Arabian Peninsula, including among Pakistan’s key Middle Eastern allies and traditional patrons, could next blow through Islamabad.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain, they note, have restored diplomatic ties with Israel after Saudi Arabia reportedly gave its tacit affirmation to go ahead. Analysts argue Pakistan could be next if Riyadh gives a similar nod.

India sees ‘no future’ in Pakistan’s normalisation of ties with Israel
India believes Pakistan's recognition of Israel will weaken Islamabad's 'so-called Kashmir cause'.
Nayanima Basu 19 December, 2020

New Delhi: India believes Pakistan’s proposed plan to recognise Israel by establishing diplomatic ties with it will have “no future” and will not affect the geopolitical landscape in West Asia, but will only weaken its Kashmir cause, ThePrint has leant.
While Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said recognition of Israel is “not under consideration”, Islamabad is actively working out details of establishing diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv since its policy of supporting the Palestine cause has never yielded anything on its Kashmir cause, diplomatic sources told The Print.
A report in the Middle East Eye in November said Prime Minister Khan admitted to being under pressure to recognise Israel.
Sources also said the real reason why Pakistan will be “forced to” take this unprecedented step is because it has come under considerable pressure from the Arab world, especially Saudi Arabia. This comes even as Riyadh itself has been smoothening its ties with Tel Aviv but cannot be explicit about it under the Arab Peace Initiative, also called the Arab Peace Plan, which was signed in 2002.
Meanwhile, India believes it will not be an easy task for Pakistan to normalise ties with Israel despite active backchannel talks between both the countries for several years now, according to official sources.
In 2005, former Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri had held a high-level dialogue with then Foreign Minister of Israel Silvan Shalom, which is regarded as the historic first meeting between the two countries.
In recent history, in 2018, a private business jet reportedly flew to Islamabad from Tel Aviv. While the Pakistani government denied the claims, this happened a day before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to arrive at Oman, which was a first visit by an Israeli leader in last 20 years.
‘Tremendous pressure’ from US
According to the official sources, Pakistan is also under “tremendous pressure” from the US, and particularly from the outgoing American President Donald Trump to make Islamabad a party to the Abraham Accords, which seeks to maintain peace in the Middle East.
“These ongoing normalisations are largely symbolic in nature. This has two broad dimensions – one, the actual “normalisation” of diplomatic ties, and, two, the timing. Pakistan is under pressure to normalise ties with Israel from two sources — the Trump administration and Saudi Arabia, specifically, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman,” said Talmiz Ahmad, former Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

^ Don't known about the PIT's (pakis version of IIT's) but here is some insight by Pervez Hoodbhoy into the functioning of their regular universities

The academic rankings racket
From the website of Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities – which ranks thousands of universities globally – the department of mechanical engineering at Quaid-e-Azam University was rated 76-100 in 2017. This placed it just below Tokyo University and just above Manchester University. Wow! Thereafter every year Quaid-e-Azam University improved its score and in 2020 it jumped into the 51-75 range putting it under McGill University but higher than Oxford University. The reader can google this and may discover other such gems too.

Better than Oxford? Having taught at Quaid-e-Azam University for the greater part of my life, I could jump for joy. But let the truth be told: Quaid-e-Azam University does not have a mechanical engineering department! In fact, it does not offer engineering of any kind and none is planned.

Karima Baloch: Pakistani rights activist found dead in Toronto
Baloch, 37, a campaigner from the restive region of Balochistan in western Pakistan, was a vocal critic of the Pakistani military and state.
Toronto police issued an appeal after she went missing on Sunday. Friends later said her body had been found.
In 2016, Baloch was named in the BBC's annual list of 100 inspirational women.
Toronto police tweeted on Monday, saying the activist was last seen on Sunday in the Bay Street, Queens Quay West area of the city. The force tweeted again later to say she been "located", without adding any detail.
Friends and fellow activists said her body had been since been discovered, but the cause of death was not immediately made clear.
Baloch's sister told BBC Urdu on Tuesday that her death was "not only a tragedy for the family, but also for the Baloch national movement".
"She didn't go abroad because she wanted to, but because... open activism in Pakistan had become impossible," Mahganj Baloch said.

Under very sketchy circumstances, she goes missing and is reported by the local police as 'Missing'. Approx 24 hours later, the family claims her body has been found in the water by the lakeshore. Police posts follow up tweet 'Located'. So far, not a single Canadian media outlet has reported it except for acknowledgement of a tweet linking ISI shifting its base from the US to Canada under duress from Trump administration.

PS. the area she went missing in is not secluded, it's the heart of downtown only a few hundred metres away from the local marine police division, and fire/rescue centre. Russians, CCP, and Saudi must be having a field day tracking down dissidents.

Not sure where to post this....but this is a good beginner's article

OIC’s approach
NOTWITHSANDING the positive outcome of the two-day conference of Islamic foreign ministers in Niger’s capital last month, Pakistan need not be euphoric nor forget some of the fundamental differences between our pan-Islamic sentiments and those of the other members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation which are a little less zealous about it. At the same time, let us not confuse the ummah with the OIC. The two are not synonyms.
The ummah comprises world Muslims linked through an unshakable bond of belief and emotions peculiar to Muslims; the OIC consists mostly of unelected governments of 50-plus member states which may or may not share common interests because of differences in geography, ethnography and historical experience. Even the 22 members of the Arab League do not have a common perception of geopolitical issues and are sometimes at loggerheads, as can be seen in their policies on the slaughter in Syria, Yemen and Libya.

One point should, however, be grasped at the outset. The Arab world is the pivot on which the ummah turns. Without the Arabs and their language there is no ummah. This is a harsh geopolitical and historical reality, and if one finds Arab governments indifferent to non-Arab issues — even tragedies like Kashmir and Rohingya — then one can only pray.

There is another bitter observation: the average Arab cannot understand how people — eg those millions of Indonesians, South Asians, Kazakhs or Bosnians — can be Muslim if they do not speak the language of the Holy Quran.

What is this lame-duck organisation good for?

The Arabs are a proud people. Their belief in the superiority of their language and their consciousness of Arabs’ cultural achievements in history shape their lackadaisical attitude towards all non-Arab Muslims. Toward Turks and Iranians — the only two ethnic groups they have interacted with for more than a millennium — their approach is more complex. ‘Turks’ here doesn’t mean Ottomans alone; it also means the variety of Turco-Mongols who ruled the Middle East for nearly 1,000 years — the Seljuks, Mamluks, Il-Khans, White Sheep and Black Sheep, Circassians, Timurids and Turco-Albanians. One reason for Arab indifference to the Turkic people is their bitter memory of the way the Timurids and some Mamluks dealt with them.

In the case of Iran, they draw satisfaction from the fact that it was the Arabs who ruled Iran and changed its culture. However, the fact that Shia Islam became Iran’s state religion from the early 16th century onwards has made no difference to Shia Arabs. Note that Iraq is a Shia-majority country and Saddam Hussein’s army which attacked Iran was largely Shia.

Getting down to brass tacks, it was the UAE which gave two blows to Pakistan last year. In March, it hosted at Abu Dhabi the 46th OIC foreign ministers’ conference, which the late Indian foreign minister, Sushma Swaraj, attended as an honoured guest. Later that year, it could have come up with a stronger denunciation of the Indian move to abolish India-held Kashmir’s special status and amendment to the nationality law. The entire Arab world was indifferent.

Must we be so OIC-oriented? What is this lame-duck organisation good for? It doesn’t even have non-political achievements to its credit. No country in the world attaches so much importance to it as Pakistan does for reasons which are visceral and not grounded in geopolitical realities. India, too, watches the OIC carefully and derives sadistic pleasure from Pakistan’s discomfiture. (India enjoys observer status at the Arab League.)

Let Pakistan shirk any attempt at creating a non-Arab bloc. In the first place this will only widen the gulf between Arab and non-Arab governments without advancing any cause. Secondly, the fate of the abortive non-Arab mini summit at Kuala Lumpur last December is before us. Whether or not the Saudis threatened Pakistan, the way Recep Tayyip Erdogan is reported to have put it is immaterial. Arabs are too powerful to be ignored, centrally placed geographically and endowed historically with leadership heritage. The realistic course for Pakistan is to ignore the OIC and treat it as a debating forum.

The Arabs are basically a secular people. A native of Damascus or Cairo is first a Syrian or Egyptian, then an Arab and lastly a Muslim. He is impervious to non-Arab overtures on a religious basis. In fact, he is suspicious as to the motive. Islam is in his blood, and unlike us Pakistanis he doesn’t flaunt it.

Let’s accept it. Our ‘we Muslims’ obsession, which is a continuation of our pre-Partition anguish about Muslims in other countries, has largely remained unreciprocated. If we want respect from the OIC and the world, let Pakistanis first give some respect to each other. Let Pakistanis hate each other a little less. Let us develop the ‘Pakistan comes first’ narrative, eclipsed unfortunately by elements that have terrorised Pakistan into becoming a base for an international jihadist movement.

This is sending a message to all the dissident Bakis who are exiled overseas that it's not just their friends and families within Bakistan, but themselves who are well within reach. I'll not be surprised should the Turdeau regime downplay and quietly bury the entire matter.

Islam is to Arabs what Sanathana Dharma is to Hindus. It is our culture just like Islam is theirs. Hindus don't flaunt our religion by constantly yammering on and on about it, I believe the Arabs don't do so either. It's the neo-converts who tend to (over)do it.

That is why the Arabs are coming close to India and their leaders close to Modi. They value their country and culture more than the cultural-slaves (ummah) their ancestors created.

I'm not entirely convinced by the rhetoric that she was assassinated just yet, I retraced the steps and visited the area where it is believed her body was found. On a Sunday afternoon, there would be plenty of people on that stretch, also a ferry terminal which has quite a few cameras, and a residential tower block with several windows facing the lake. Also, I don't think the Fed govt would let this slide as they have given asylum to several Russian, Ukrainian, Egyptian, Saudi dissidents over the years, an open killing ground would not be good PR.

Isn't this a great indicator that she was, infact, assassinated? A normal murderer would rather try to hide the body and not display it like that for the whole world to see. Seems a pretty clear "message" for others like her.

So, a dissident in the West raised her voice against her government as so many dissidents do. What has Karima Baloch said that is so damaging to p*kis that merits a hit?

Is it this easy to murder a dissident in Sweden or Canada? And, nobody bats an eyelid in the West? It is one thing for governments in the developing world to jail, torture, murder their own people in their own country who voice dissent, but it quite something else for p*kis to do this so far away from home

Is it a good assumption that Sweden & Canada have p*kis in good number to provide intel on the ground?

Only the local TPS and the public safety minister Bill Blair has, the RCMP has not received a mandate to investigate. It would have to be from the provincial police, OPP.

Drowning someone overnight right next to the ferry terminal that is staffed 24/7, and a police unit constantly patrolling the shore as there is an active runway on the island makes it less palatable for a foreign agency, or organised hit of such sophistication during the day. The area is literally packed with runners and cyclists on the weekend. What is intriguing is whether the body was found on the Lakeshore, or the island as stated by one news outlet. In which case she would have had to book a ferry ticket online beforehand.

They all see India as the "most" accommodating entity when their oil runs out which can/will provide for their food, security and most other necessities perhaps not including luxuries.

they still have the mullahs to foment trouble as and when needed plus the ability to influence policy decisions on a cold cash basis with the pliant and "receptive" babooze and many of the politico masters panting to welcome them.

they will still need some docile and politically neutral manpower that is hardworking and dependable and can be trusted to keep its head down and keep the shoulder to the wheel for subsistence wages.

Pakistan court orders release of man charged over Daniel Pearl murder
Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a suspect in US journalist’s 2002 killing, had conviction overturned this year
Jason Burke, Thu 24 Dec 2020.

A court in Pakistan has ordered that a British-born Islamist militant charged with the 2002 kidnapping and murder of the Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl should be freed, his defence lawyer has said.
Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh was sentenced to death in 2002 for masterminding Pearl’s murder but the conviction was overturned this year. He has been in jail ever since awaiting the outcome of a series of appeals and legal arguments.
Sheikh’s role in the murder of Pearl has long been disputed. The 47-year-old is known to have been involved in the kidnapping of the journalist, who was investigating al-Qaida in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi when he disappeared in January 2002, but is thought not to have taken part in his killing.
In April the high court of Sindh province found that the murder charge had not been proven, but upheld a seven-year jail sentence for kidnapping. Three other people sentenced to life in prison for their role in the plot were acquitted. The decision stunned the US government, Pearl’s family and journalism advocacy groups.
Sheikh’s conviction was showcased by Pakistan as proof of its commitment to the US-led war against terrorism, launched after the 9/11 attacks in 2001 that killed 3,000 people in New York and Washington. Pearl’s murder, which was filmed and the video posted online, may instead have been carried out by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the key organiser of the 9/11 attacks, who is being held at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba. In 2007, US officials said Mohammed, who was systematically tortured after his arrest in Pakistan in 2003, had confessed to personally killing Pearl during a military hearing at Guantánamo Bay. The Sindh high court’s release order overturns a decision by Pakistan’s top court that Sheikh should remain in custody while Pearl’s family appeal against the acquittal. Sheikh’s lawyer, Mehmood Sheikh, called for his client to be released immediately.

This Canadian government can and will let this slide, because it has too many deeply entrenched anti-India interests who has openly supported ISI agenda in the past despite vocal opposition from GoI. If they had a Russian, Ukrainian, Egyptian or Saudi origin sleazy douche as a defense minister with his own party vote bank, then they too will brazenly do this.

This is out and out a paki hit being hastily hidden by True-doo and co. A national govt that is ok with an airliner being blown apart by its political supporters Is more than ok with this assassination.

Reko Diq case: British Virgin Islands high court attaches Pakistan’s assets.

Pakistan is faced with another setback on the international legal front as the British Virgin Islands high court ruled to attach certain assets belonging to the country’s institutions, sources revealed to The Express Tribune.

Sources informed that the British Virgin Islands high court passed an ex parte order on December 16 regarding the attachment of Pakistani institutions’ assets. In view of that order, Pakistan cannot sell these assets.

For the enforcement of the $6 billion award in the Reko Diq case, Tethyan Copper Company (TCC) has sought attachment of certain assets belonging to Pakistani institutions.

'Govt vigorously contesting matter'
Pursuant to the proceedings for the enforcement of the award before the high court of Justice in British Virgin Islands by TCC, the office of the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) has said that the government of Pakistan is vigorously contesting the matter with all legal resources available to it. Likeiwse, the government is also engaged in settling the matter actively.

Without prejudice to such engagement, it is reiterated that the government of Pakistan shall vigorously pursue proceedings initiated by the TCC in any jurisdiction and the government reaffirms its commitment to protecting national assets, wherever they may be located, says the statement issued by the AGP.

The International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) on September 17 issued a 70-page order in which it was decided that the stay of enforcement of $6 billion award — the same forum rendered on July 12, 2019 — shall be continued on a conditional basis.

The order said Pakistan shall provide an “unconditional and irrevocable” bank guarantee or the LC for 25 per cent of the award, plus accrued interest as of the date of the decision. The guarantee or the LC was to come from a reputable international bank based outside of Pakistan, which was pledged in favour of the claimant — Tethyan Copper Company (TCC) — and to be released on the order of the ICSID.

The ICSID also held that if Pakistan could not furnish the security and undertaking in terms as set out within 30 days after notification of the decision, the stay of enforcement in the amount of 50 per cent of the award, plus accrued interest as of the date of the decision would be lifted. However, Pakistan missed the deadline and did not deposit 25 per cent bank guarantee (Of course what else do you expect from a Paki or Pakistani government?)

Out of court settlement
Pakistani authorities are hopeful that the country will reach an out of court settlement with the TCC next year. Senior lawyers are of the opinion that the claimant company has no choice but to reach out for an out of court settlement as Pakistan has very limited assets abroad. (Only shameless pakistanis can take satisfaction from the fact that they do not have enough assets to cover their bills and expenses)

The TCC had initially claimed $11.43 billion in damages for the termination of their contract but Pakistan’s incumbent legal team was able to restrain the sum to $4.08 billion.

In 2012, the TCC filed a claim for international arbitration before the ICSID of the World Bank. The litigation carried on for seven years. Former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhary’s judgment in the Reko Diq case was the first in the previous government’s tenure. The current Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government has already spent $10 million as legal expenditures on this case.

Many senior lawyers have been critical of the former CJP’s judgments which in the ensuing years have caused trouble for policymakers and stirred concerns amid international investors.

A senior official revealed that the “misstatement” of scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand before the tribunal was one of the main reasons behind the ICSID slapping the heavy penalty on Pakistan. Dr Samar had claimed that the Reko Diq gold mines would fetch the country around $2.5 billion annually. He had also maintained that Reko Diq and other gold reserves in the country will bring in $131 billion to the national exchequer. The tribunal relied on his statement. (This 'scientist' had a nice scam going, he promised free electricity to pakistan and got millions of dollars funding for 'research on producing Power from coal' - Thar Coal Project. In the end he blew Rs 400 billion with nothing to show for the money invested :rotfl:

Three different international firms were hired to plead the case before the ICSID. Cherie Blair, the wife of former UK prime minister Tony Blair, was leading Pakistan’s first legal team. Renowned lawyer Ahmar Bilal Sufi was assigned the task of hiring the team. (Mashallah lots of kick backs made in $$ )

During the tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government, then AGP Salman Aslam Butt had hired an international firm, Alen and Avery.
However, Alen and Avery was unable to find evidence of corruption in the contract between Pakistan and the TCC. Later, ex-AGP Ashtar Ausaf Ali engaged an American firm, GST, in the quantum stage. Only $1 million was paid to it. The firm raised 11 arguments of which seven were accepted at the quantum stage.

It is true, they've harbored this delusion since inception and not just in the 90s after the collapse of Soviet Union as the video suggests. That idiot lal topi Zaid Hamid's wet dreams of being the "leaders of ummah" is not new nor original, Hussain Haqqani mentions about the idea of expanding Pakistan's sphere of influence throughout central asia and the middle east existed during Ayub Khan and later during Zulfiqar Bhutto's time.

I hope GoI helps Danish Kaneria and his family get out of that sh1thole and get asylum in India. His career was cut short because he was a Hindu, and last year during the CAA noise he mentioned on twitter that throughout his international career he faced discrimination from his teammates and many a times was not allowed to share the dining table with them . He has never attempted to hide his religion or beat himself to prove his loyalty to jihadistan, before he meets the same fate as Karima Baloch it is time our government provides him and his family a safe sanctuary.

Pakistan threatens Google, Wikipedia over 'sacrilegious content'
Pakistan authorities have sent notices to Google and Wikipedia over content like caricatures of Prophet Mohammed and an "unauthentic" version of the Quran.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) called for the immediate removal of "unlawful content" from Google. The regulators pointed to pages that name religious leader Mirza Masroor Ahmad as the current "Khalifa" or leader of Islam, thus contradicting dominant religious beliefs in the country. They also decried an "unauthentic version of Holy Quran" on Google Play Store.

"Complaints were also received regarding hosting of caricatures of Holy Prophet (PBUH) and dissemination of misleading, wrong, deceptive and deceitful information through articles published on Wikipedia portraying Mirza Masroor Ahmad as a Muslim," the PTA said in a statement published on its official Twitter handle.

Most Pakistanis drink water contaminated with their own $hit.

Good to know they support their government’s strenuous efforts to at least keep their souls pure.

Pakistani militants shift focus to cities in targeting of Chinese
Recent attempts hint armed groups opposing Belt and Road set sights on Karachi
ZIA UR REHMAN, December 27, 2020.

KARACHI -- Recent attacks on Chinese citizens in Karachi show that Pakistani militant groups opposing China's Belt and Road Initiative have changed their strategy -- focusing on the country's urban centers and targeting Chinese nationals and investments.
On Tuesday, a Chinese citizen and his interpreter survived a gun assault on a car showroom in the outskirts of Karachi, the country's key port city and economic hub. A week before, another Chinese national survived an attempt to blow up his vehicle outside the restaurant he owns in Karachi's upscale Clifton area.
The Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army insurgent group claimed credit for both attacks. "China and Pakistan have forcibly been occupying the land under the projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and we will continue our attacks to target them," the SRA said in a statement.
The CPEC -- which involves $50 billion worth of infrastructure projects in Pakistan -- is part of the BRI that is aimed at developing land and sea trade routes in Asia and beyond.
Ethnic militant groups in Balochistan and Sindh provinces that have been fighting security forces for years over what they see as unfair exploitation of the regions' vast mineral wealth have also been attacking projects linked to the CPEC.
Security experts believe that the groups are now choosing major urban centers, mainly Karachi, to target Chinese nationals and investments in addition to Pakistani state institutions and personnel, their traditional focus.
