encouraging news from all over India of covid vaccination. Both covaxin & Oxford launched in 40:60
Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread
total of approx 1.6L vaccination on day 1 ..approx 50% of max capacity of 3L per day. SII production capacity is 5000 doses per minute.
Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread
1.9L vaccinated in India...at least in BLR, BBMP has said that they will be able to vaccinate all front line HCWs within 3-4 days (giving a few days of buffer, hopefully by end of next week). Also, GoI has said that those who want to be vaccinated in Ph-2 should register by Jan 24th. Probably on CoWin app...Hopefully, the pace of vaccination (& production) will pick up in coming days and by end of Feb, if it starts reaching to common folks, it would be great.
Currently in Ph-1, HCWs who are working in Covid wards are being considered for vaccinations. I know a few docs who are not associated with Covid wards and their names are not in Ph-1 rolls.

Vaccine or no vaccine India's active case count has been trending down for the past four months. Now at 212k it is at 14th position in the world and if you take active cases per million it is way, way below that - near 100!.
Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread
How come Covaxin is being rolled out in massive numbers?
Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread
See my post about a few months ago regarding "super model".. The cases have been following the prediction fairly nicely. In spite of festivals like dushera and Divali and elections and protests things have not gotten (relatively speaking) out of hand. With new B-117 version which has much larger R factor - if that's does not spread, I (and many of us) think by the end of February this will be under control.saip wrote:Vaccine or no vaccine India's active case count has been trending down for the past four months. For perspective, let me just put today's data using the same source and presentation I have been using it here.
All values are per million people. I have chosen 5 countries of my interest.

Now while India has started vaccines - free to all who needs it. Here is my neck of the wood, our state is also doing great - A senior citizen, after one year, is just receiving a set of 5 disposable masks - all generously given by my state. (Vaccines for 80 and above has also just started ).

Wearing mask mandatory even if you are alone in car and driving
https://www.deshgujarat.com/2021/01/16/ ... d-driving/
Ahmedabad: You will need to wear face mask properly while in car even if you are yourself driving a car and there’s none other in the same car. As per an order, copy of which is attached to this article, it is mandatory to wear mask when in rickshaw, cab, taxi, private or government car for all passengers and a person on driving seat. Even when a person is alone in vehicle and on driving seat, he/she will need to wear a face mask properly mandatorily or will have to pay Rs. 1,000 fine per person when caught by police for violation. It’s worth noting that earlier, the State government had exempted single persons in vehicle (on driving seat) from wearing mask.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread
I hope we pick up the pace of vaccination. Today just 17,000 were vaccinated. Most docs & experts are saying that it may take well over a year to vaccinate large number of our population to achieve herd immunity. Until then theoretically, one has to follow usual Covid norms/restrictions. To be honest, another year of these restrictions is really onerous...
From the available public articles, as of now, GoI has placed orders for 11 Million doses with SII. A couple of months ago, SII CEO was saying that he has anywhere from 50-75 Million vials available for India by end of Jan. The numbers are not making sense...I think SII wants higher prices for each dose and the current 200 INR special price might be for the above 11 Million doses or something like that.
Last week BBMP had put out a statement saying that they can vaccinate the entire BLR HCWs (which is around 1.8L) within 3-4 days. I knew it would take min 2x of duration what they mentioned but going by the current pace, it may stretch until Month end and perhaps beyond. Then there is Ph-2 & Ph-3 before most of Indians become eligible for vaccine.

To kickstart the economy, it is important to vaccinate the working age population. So, I'd have prioritized working age adults and children over senior citizens (or atleast have a proportion of the three) instead of looking at senior citizens alone in next phase.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread
1) what % of working age population is looking after sick/elderly. 2) that % of population was looking after elderly even before covid 3) they should cover states /areas contributing high % of cases and the productive population esp between 45 to 60. elderly are anyway practising social distancing, isolation at home. its the working age population which has to move about.

Important to realize that all current vaccines are authorized for emergency use. That means more side effects can be found as vaccinations proceed. Apparently the Oxford-AZ Covishield vaccine has a possible serious side-effect as well, which is causing some to opt for Covaxin.

There is a lot of rona-dhona in Pak media regarding the free distribution of Kovid vaccination in India, while they have none. Quite enjoyable. But one item strikes out. They say that along with doctors and nurses and older population, India is vaccinating its army. I could not find this in any Indian sources. Is this true, or are they translating "front-line workers" as the army?

from the paki dawn paper
January 18, 2021
MNHS spokesperson Sajid Shah told Dawn that more vaccines would be registered in coming weeks in the country.
“The AstraZeneca has been registered in the country for emergency use and the vaccine will come through Covax, which has pledged to provide the vaccine that would cover 20 per cent of the country’s population.
Covax is an alliance set up by Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and World Health Organisation in April last year. The alliance has pledged provision of free vaccine for 20pc of the population of different countries, including Pakistan.
Mr Shah said the registration of the vaccine had opened a gateway for import of the vaccine through the private sector.
He said that the government had been trying its best to get vaccine at the earliest. “Once the frontline workers and people over the age of 65 are vaccinated, we will move to vaccinate those who are between 60 and 65 years of age,” he said.
An official of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan, however, said that a Karachi-based company, ‘Sindh Medical Store’, has registered the AstraZeneca’s vaccine.
“Though the vaccine has been registered by a private company, I don’t think that the vaccine will be available in the market in next few months. The fact is that the vaccine is not available across the globe and it will remain unavailable till the end of the second quarter of current year,” he said.

Over 3.8 Lakh Vaccinated Against Covid-19
580 Adverse Events Reported
A total of 381,305 people across India have been vaccinated against the coronavirus disease Covid-19 so far, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare said today (18 January).
Beneficiaries have received the vaccine over 7,704 sessions. The numbers reported by the government are as of 5 pm today, the third day of India's vaccination drive.
On 18 January alone, 148,266 people received the vaccine. The states with the most Covid-19 vaccine beneficiaries were Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir, and Jharkhand.
After the vaccination, 580 AEFIs or 'adverse events following immunisation' were reported, the Health Ministry revealed.
Seven persons were hospitalised across Delhi (3), Uttarakhand (1), Chhattisgarh (1), and Karnataka (2). Two of these cases have been discharged and the remaining are under medical observation.
Two deaths were reported after inoculation too – a 52-year-old man from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, and a 43-year-old man from Bellary, Karnataka. The post mortem for the UP man said the case was "not related to vaccination". The post mortem for the person in Karnataka is expected to take place today.
On the first two days of the vaccination drive, 447 AEFIs were reported..

Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 Vaccine Helps U.K. Lead Race to Reach Nursing Homes
Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 Vaccine Helps U.K. Lead Race to Reach Nursing Homes
AstraZeneca says certain steps in the three-to-four month process of manufacturing the vaccine can’t be accelerated. It takes between 58 to 60 days to grow the cells needed for the virus to replicate inside and then a further 28 days to prepare the vaccine via a process known as fill-and-finish before packaging and releasing in batches. Around 60 quality tests are performed during the process, and each batch is tested by the U.K. medicines regulator before being cleared for clinical use.
This is where the new vaccines based on mRNA technology, like Pfizer’s and Moderna’s, have an advantage. Their manufacturing process is a lot quicker. It takes about two hours to make the RNA.

China to 'gift' 0.5m doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Pakistan by Jan 31: Qureshi
Dawn.com, January 21, 2021
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Thursday announced that China has promised to provide 500,000 doses of a coronavirus vaccine to Pakistan by January 31.
In a video message after a phone call with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, Qureshi said China offered Islamabad to send an airplane and airlift the vaccines.
The minister said he held a detailed conversation with the Chinese foreign minister in which he "discussed Pakistan's requirements", after Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed him to increase interaction with Beijing "considering the sensitivity of the situation".
"I want to give the nation the good news that China has promised to immediately provide 500,000 doses of vaccine to Pakistan by January 31," he said.

This China vaccine is dubious. It was supposedly ready half a year ago. What took so long to release it to the general Chinese population? The Brazilians report a 50% effectiveness rate.
No the gernails will not be taking it. The will be sourcing Pfizer Moderna astra Zeneca vaccines.
I can foresee the gernails being set up by a bakht with contracts signed for supply of Indian vaccines. And then the matter going public.
