AIADMK+ is giving a tough fight in TN. They may cross 100 at this rate, and not be restricted to 70 odd as predicted by most exit polls.

Most of the seats reporting in WB are from south. North Bengal, the stronghold of BJP, is yet to report majority of the seats.

Can a person lose the seat and still be CM?

News18 is showing 137 for TMC and 85 for BJP. So is the Quint.

ECI, the definitive site, shows 58 for TMC and 33 for BJP out of 92. All leads, no wins.

If a person is elected chief minister who is not a member of the legislature, then he/she must take sign from governor.

Yes. A non-MLA can become Chief Minister, provided that they win a seat in either upper house or lower house of the state legislature within 6 months from date of swearing-in.

The CM, if not a member of the legislature, must get elected within six months from some seat.

OK, thanks for the replies. Now both Quint and News18 are showing 146 for TMC already. 147 is needed to win. I don't know how reliable these sites are, but even ECI is showing a big lead for TMC (68 TMC, 36 BJP, 2 Indep out of 106).

If the above trends are right, then BJP has a great chance of crossing 100 in Bengal and will have made big gains, but that's about it.

Assam, however, seems to be in the bag. And Puducherry.

By the way ,during this election Prashant Kishore promised on video that he will quit his business if BJP crosses 100 seats in Bengal, so I wonder what he will do now...

How many more rounds of counting to go in Bengal?

Doesn't look like a BJP sweep so far. Even if they rally from behind, it'll be a close one

Hope there's some surprise somewhere, otherwise Bengal is going to see a wave of vengeance and vindictiveness. Let's see, only two hours into counting so far.

And they get elected to either of the houses within six months. There is no provision for a CM/PM who is not elected in any way.

Many seats will be decided by 500 or 1000 or similar number of razor thin margin.

Well, if this result holds, I will hold PVR Narasimha Rao's astrological predictions in high regard.. he did predict Modi tsunami 2019, Trump's ouster 2020 and MB returning to power in WB in 2021.

Irrespective of who wins in Bengal, BJP got 3 seats 2016. It is still a major achievement.
