Naxalism was mainly dealt with during the reign of YSR between 2004 to 2009. Even as late as 2004, Naxals almost killed then CM Chandra Babu Naidu in Tirupati just before he lost the election.
Greyhounds played a major role.

Even today, many of the top-brass of the Maoists in Chattisgarh, Jharkhand etc are from Andhra.
Modi sarkar is doing all it can in bringing roads, schools, hospitals, medical facilities, mobile networks into the interiors. The Maoists are busy destroying this very infra the lack of which gave rise to the Maoist movement.
Its clear now that they've crossed the Rubicon and have become a Prabhakaran-style LTTE organization which wants a state of permanent war. They don't want any solution. Ably encouraged by urban naxals. They must be (especially the leadership) liquidated with no compunction. Once the heads are all gone, both in the interiors and in cities, the cannon fodder tribals will go back to their villages and try to get a normal life.
Brute force is an absolute must.

Promising looking tech against IEDs (a Naxal favorite). Would be good if any similar research is going on in India

After almost any major terror strike, the pigs are eliminated within a fairly short period of time. AUGH outfit now completely eliminated. Al-badr seems to be next, as the number of active members is small. LeT and JeM have greater flow from across the border with almost all foreign militants being from these two outfits.
The only missing part right now is that number of foreign/paki terrorists being eliminated is small. Most of those being killed are local youths who had taken up arms over the last 5 years.
However, since 2018, almost 1,000 have been eliminated and the shelf life of every new recruit is reducing progressively. The current covid surge has put paid to the expected tourist rush for the current summer season. Maybe by Diwali time, if covid subsides, then tourism would take off in a big way and by mid to end of 2022, the situation in Kashmir would probably be better than it was in 2013-14, before the floods.
Seems like what I said a few weeks ago is coming true. 4 Al-Badr militants out of the picture. 1 surrendered, 3 killed.

^ While that is good, the issue remains that the shelves get re-stocked.
Hopefully we will keep our casualties close to zero and keep eliminating the pigs faster, deeper and further...

Must have done some kand with his own ilk or messed around with a local's daughter. With the abrogation of Article 370, locals would have become emboldened to stop taking their torture and BS.pushkar.bhat wrote:Militant's body found in a lake.

The "commander's" last name is Pandit. Comes from the venerable Kashmiri Pandit tradition. Forcibly converted generations ago.

I wonder if there was no RR no Army involvement in CI where we would be today?
Re: CT & COIN Operations in India: News, Images and Discussion
My understanding is that Srinagar and the large towns are handled by the CRPF and J&K police. In all fairness to the paramilitary, they appear to be in control - terrorist incidents at their lowest for several years, as are stone pelting incidents and a high ratio of terrorists killed (despite all critice predicting a bloodbath after 370 went and though there is huge economic hardship after 370 and covid have hit 3 seasons of tourism.ks_sachin wrote:I wish these vermin were killed by the para mil forces it would be great. I was in Srinagar in winter and apart from Badami Bagh cantonment, it was only CRPF and JK cops all over Srinagar. Of course outside the cities, its RR units on CI duty and the regular army on the LOC.

Two more bite the dust!! Keep up the good work boys!! With the flow across the LoC having slowed down, the already weakened terrorist momentum should ebb further by the end of this year.
7th encounter in the last 15 days. So far 91 have been eliminated this year.

Grandparents tell a story that a lot of these converted KMs wanted to return back to Hinduism and requested the king for permission. A bunch of pandits got in to boats and threatened that they'll jump in to the lake if the king agreed. He was forced to deny the KM's request due to this. Two generations later, there are no "pure pandits" left in their own homeland. Great example of Vinaash Kaaley Viprti Buddhi.
Yes, it is only CRPF and JK Police in Kashmir's urban areas and RR in very sensitive areas elsewhere. CRPF was involved.
14 RR and 3rd Bn CRPF arrested at least three terrorist associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba
CRPF is quite well armed with Tavor rifles and carbines among a few other high quality weapons. Quite a change with nearly clueless BSF in early 90s and early CRPF deployments armed with FN-FALs, sterlings and almost nothing else. Tourism had started to pickup after 2016, but even then majority were Amarnath yatris. Not many people revisit because of bad experiences with getting conned at every step by everyone involved. People buy saffron worth thousands only to get threads soaked in orange dye, bats made of eucalyptus and so on.

A formal program/structure to "ghar-wapsi" without shortsightedness like "he ate beef & hence we wouldn't welcome him back" is badly needed.
It need not even need to be a "common" ghar-wapsi program. Beyond some basic commonalities, each region/jati can come up with their own variations on how they want to do it.

Shivaji got back his in-laws - Bajaji Nimbalkars as well as Netaji Palkar - reconverted them back into Hindus.
He went a step further giving his daughter Sakhubai to Nimbalkars in marriage to make them acceptable in society.

More than religion its the culture that should be protected. The unique culture of Kashmir should be protected. The influence of Pashtun, afghan, pakjabi and arab cultures should be stamped out. Now even Turkish TV shows are becoming popular. Instead Indian culture should be gain precedence above all else.

SATP is a good resource to analyse trends in violence and counter insurgency in South Asia.
In Kashmir, steady reduction in incidents after 270 went - deaths at their lowest level since 2012. This does not count those killed on the Occupied Kashmir side of the LOC.
Ratio of Terrorists : Security forces killed is 5 : 1 this year, it has never been so good in the history of the insurgency.
Keep in mind that security forces deaths include J&K cops, para military and Army.

Three more pigs killed in Sopore. Century crossed for the current calendar year. With almost 1,000 terrorists killed since 2016, the numbers ought to really fall now. On average there have been around 300 active terrorists operating in Kashmir at any given time. Now it seems the number would close to 200 or slightly lower.
More importantly the shelf life of any terrorist, seems to have declined to 3 years of less. Most seem to get eliminated now with 6 months of being involved in any terror incident. Which means if they raise their heads and venture out of their rat holes, they become a marked target. The local intelligence and support for the security forces have definitely improved over the past couple of years.
