CHARLES DE GAULLE - SUEZ CANAL
-------------------------------------------
Vice admiral franco was scanning the horizon from his elevated perch when on the periphery of his vision he could make out a red flash followed by shrill ring on his intercom from the officer on watch

- sir we have an emergency - mid air explossion in civilian aircraft french origin -12 kms over canal -request permission to emergency reverse

- permission granted - initiate emergency reverse procedure now -launch all available helos immediately for survivor rescue immediately - inform egyptian and israeli air trafic that this is a pure rescue mission and need clearence right now

The communication officer on board charles de gaulle went into overdrive as he listened to the open circuit communication

- cairo centre - this is french navy carrier charles de gaule -location sue canal - we report mid air explossion of a french civilian air craft type a 340 -request priority clearenec to laucnh rescue helos and permission to enter egyptian air space

- tel aviv centre - reporting mid air explossion on french civilian airliner over suez canal -launching multiple rescue helos -request air space clearence -have already contacted egyptian authorities

- French naval carrier charles de gulle -cairo centre - request report exact location of explossion - you are cleared to launch rescue helos - we are closing the air space over suez canal and cairo international till further notice -your sqwak is 2345 bravo - please communicate on guard frequency -egyptian air force mi 17s are also being launched but will take a few minutes - over

-cairo centre -charles de gaulle -message understood -keeping guard frequency open for continious communication -sqwak 2345 bravo six dauphene choppers being launched - aircraft split up near cockpit which has gone into the canal and the rest of fuselage have impacted canal bank-no major fire noticed till now -please rush fire fighting gear soonest -crash co ordinates -------

The first of the dauphene helicopters lifted and veered off with fire fighting team for the main crash site on the bank of the canal ,the next dauphene took off and went straight over the canal to the spot where the flight deck section have impacted the canal .It had on board the specialist naval divers good in underwater rescue . The other four went with medics and rescuers with fire gear and oxygen mask.

It was not a pleasent task . By the time the egyptian and israeli rescue teams have arrived the french naval personnel have mostly managed to extricate the survivors from the fuming wreckage .The dead once again were mostly the children and few who were near the blast zone .All of them were suffering from trauma of sudden decompression and high impact crash landing . By the time the french naval divers reached the sunken cockpit all personnel on flight deck were dead mostly by the shock of broken nose section slamming into the the shallow waters of canal at more than 400 kms/hr .

There were only a few who could talk and they told the press and the authorities about the beautiful muslim woman who stood up and then the explossion took place blanking off collective memory for a few seconds as the mortally injured airliner broke up in two and went into terminal dive totaly out of control . What saved thier lives was the fact most of them were still strapped down and the aircraft have not reached full cruising altitude .

A total of 47 passengers surbvived out of almost a full load and that too because of the quick reaction of french naval teams.Carting out the horribly mutilated dead took a long time .

The world watched in disgust and awe . French resolve firmed up . A coded signal was recieved by the vice admiral from the highest office of the land .It was kept in a sealed locker usally reserved for nuclear weapon authorisation documents

seriously from 23000 feet the the a/c lost control and nose dived into the water ... and there were people found alive ??

really ?

a bit too far fetched just to ID the bomber....

alternatively you could have landed the wreckage on the land and allowed investigators 3 days to find out what happended... explosive traces etc etc

your scenario your show... that was my 2 cents

keep it going... well done

Femme Fatales in our scenarios

Post by HarshS »

If I'm not wrong, in the two years of this scenario, we've had some interesting women roles.

1) Socialites turned warriors. The Indian socialite whose boyfriend was killed and who goes to Kashmir and helps knock off one of the spies.

2) Group Captain Nandita Sahai and another air force colleague out of Kabul.

3) Suicide bombers.

4) A woman who was an analyst.

5) A student who was beaten outside the Prime Minister's House.

6) Spies in the US.

Interesting range of characters--student, socialist, spy, soldier--we've covered them all. Only no sailor yet! Can the next scenario have Lt. Commander Zara Mathur who is the XO of a frigate or LST (probably won't be a submariner though).

MILITARY HOSPITAL -CAIRO
----------------------------------
The french ambassador cried as he saw the mass of dead in the air conditioned morgue most beyond recgnition .All her diplomatic protocol went out of the window as she saw up close the effect of high explossive on human torso when third degree burn and shearing of limbs take place simultaneously to generate the most horrific visaul image of death .The death toll in the meantime have gone up further . Out of a total of 47 passengers taken off the aircraft buy french naval personnel with some vestige of life most have succumbed to internal injuries and burns . Only one of the aircrews in the economy section and a mixed baf of 7 passengers were still struggling to say alive all of them still critical .

The terrorist was however quickly identified from the description of the only surviving aircrew who remembered the beutiful arab dressed woman standing up just before the explossion took place and from the only upper body totally missing and also max damage section of the fuselage near her seat . She did not have any DNA match with known terrorists in the data base but then it was only expected .

Some where in the distance the carrier charles de gaulle waited in anchor .Her grizzly task over she waited for the canal to be opened to trafic as the us and egyptian divers scurriedd the bottom of the shallow water way
for evidence as trafic piled up both side .

QUETTA - NORTH WEST PAKISTAN
-------------------------------------------
The old man finished his mid day namaz .As he rose slowly to his sheepskin covered seat a trusted assistant opened before him a small pile of handwritten reports and the courier was waiting outside . The folder contained several newspaper reports and photographs and strangely a crude hand written invoice in bad english for the job done . The old man has long ago understood the value of outsourcing since his own network was now under intense scrutiny . He spoke quitely to his assistant who went to a nearby wooden box and took out a shabby cloth bag closed with a draw string .Thousand suns came alive as he opened the bag as the collection of gem diamonds reflected the overhead light .All of them were over 5 carats and flawlessly cut . The old mad casually selected 3 of them and closed and returned the bag to his assistant . In the world of terror there is no credit and recently no cash trail for the intelligence agents of the worlds government to follow .

He then scribbled a few lines on the back of the same invoice and wrapped the three diamonds in the invoice and handed over the same to his assistant who went out made the hand delivery of new instructions and the payment for the last job . The courier left immediately in his old 4 wheel drive . Not a single word was spoken on cell phone nor was the internet used ever .All was done the old fashioned way by word of mouth and a sense of trust . The civilised world just did not have the means to penetrate this cordon of secrecy and so the terror on skies continued .

KOCHI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - KERALA
--------------------------------------------------
- Indian announces the departure of flight IC 334 to sharjah and baharain .Passengers are requested to board the aircraft immediately thru gate no 3 .
The message was repeated in hindi and malayali several times since most of the passengers were malayalese working in gulf as construction workers and did not much care for english announcements .

The boarding rush started immediately and randhir rajendran watched them impassively from behind the one way glass .He was one of the sky marshals that will be on board the aircraft all the way to baharain . He carried two guns one in standard armpit holster and other a smaller walter ppk in ankle . His job was passenger profiling and then position himself and his partner suitable near the suspect eiether in vacany seats nearby or dressed as cabin crew . Today he looked at a small group of 3 passengers who were not part of the usal rush for boarding but slowly walked towards the gate stopping occassionally to talk amongst themselves and checking thier mobiles . He noded to his partner sukumaran who was already in the uniform of a flight pursuer and sukumaran slipped out of the security cubicle and joined the passengers taking care to stay close to the suspect group. After a few minutes randhir also quitely slipped out and joined the passenger dressed in cheap gaudy immitation leather jacket and well worn pair of jeans .

There was some commotion at the gate as two of the passengers had their boarding cards upgraded to business class as a " surprise gift" from the airlines . The two seats now vacant would be occupied by randhir and his partner .

Indian air security was becomming proactive and quite a few much touted theories will be put to test in the next hour or so . The outcome was still into future .

Infact liquid gel bras are verboten on flights already. But putting it in a prosthesis is innovative. Hope no Jihadi is reading this

Raj was sloshed completely.

Unfortunately, we couldn't explore (pun intended) the full possibilities of such a scenario because we in a family restaurant, and there were ladies sitting on both sides of our table. Otherwise, I am sure we would enjoyed this line discussion very well.

Anand, is this the scenario that you spoke of in the BR Delhi thread?? Naughty boy.

IC 334 SOME WHERE OVER ARABIAN SEA 200 KMS SOUTH WEST FO GOA
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rajendran casually strolled down the aisle as the seat belt sign was switched off to the toilet in the rear .Inside he checked the weapons and chambered a round each but still kept the safety on .As he came out his partner sukumaran crossed guised as flight pursur . Both of them excganced a few quick words and the suspect group would now be kept under close watch for the entire duration of the flight . Sukumaran contacted the commander on aircrafts intercom and cautioned him of a possible suspect and nothing more .

Both rajendran and sukumaran were graduates of federal aviation administrations sky marshal programme. It was originally institures in 70s to stop hijacking of us aircraft by cuban refugees and sourced its personnel from us special forces. The more advanced current programme was created much later in late 1980s after hijacking of TWA 847 by lebaneses moslems who hijacked the boeing 727 soon after departure from athens to beirut where more terrrorists joined them. The negotiation went on for long almost two weeks in course of which a us navy diver and a civilian passenger was killed on board .The federal airmarshal programme was cit back considerably in early 90s but assumed importance after 9/11 and now become more extensive and a majority of us aircraft now carry a team of sky marshals .

The use of sky marshals in indian carriers were comparitively recent phenomena born out of public indignity in the aftermath of an indian airlines airbus 300 hijacking to kandahar on a routine flight from kathmandu to delhi over lucknow airspace . The release of the passengers and aircraft was achieved only after one passenger was killed on board and indian govt released three known terrorist masterminds which included the founder of jaish e mohamed responsible for parliament attack and also suspected for the foiled plot to blow up multiple wide bodied aircraft over atlantic using liquid explossive base on board assembled bombs .

Abdul lightly touched the linning of his salwar filled to brim with det cord a very flexible plastic explossive usally used by special forces to blow up doors during a hostage rescue situation .In the adjoing seat latif was slowly taking out the chemical detonators out of his laptop cd writer from where the original cd gear have long been removed and repalece with a movable detonator carrier of same size . All they had to do is to zip open the side of abduls salwar ,press in the chemical detonator and then just wait for mandatory 1 minute delay as the acid would eat through the thin copper wire and enrgise the detonation circuit . Other side of abdul aga sat impassively finguring the brand new nokia 9909 cell phone which instead of standard phone circuitry held duracell 9 volt dry cell having enough energy to trigger a det cord detonation once the the chemical times cloase the ignition circuit . Three of them together formed the improved explossive device onboard flight IC 334. All that stood between total disaster and ic 334 were the two skymarshals and their skill to shoot straight and shoot first

Det cord or detonation cord is essentially a flexible tube filed with a semi sold explossive core .It is in essence a high speed fuse which explodes instead of burning and is suitable for stand alone use in a small magnitude explossion or to trigger a larger explossion with high explossives. The velocity of detonation is usally sufficeant to to detonate multiple charges almost simultanoeusly when connected to a single igniter.Used in construction demolition sites as an inexpensive detonator to ignite spaced charges simultaneously can also if correctly employed used as a low intensity controlled explossion inside a confined space like the pressurised cabin of an aircraft .

Appearence wise it is no much diffrent from a commercial nylon cord and has a very detonation rate of about 7000-8000mtr/sec allowing controlled demolition in a spaced charges or or almost instaneous explossion in close confines.usally rated on explossive mass per unit length for example a 100 grain det cord will mean 20 gm/mtr of explossive or roughly 1/35th the explossive power of a dynamite stick .

In this case whole of the salwar of abdul was lined with extra strong 350 grain detcord more than 4 mtrs long usally used for underground detonation in mines and if got a chance to ignite there would be enough explossive power unleashed to ensure complete destruction of the aircraft and its passengers several times over .

Rajendran watched the tro thru gaps in the seats and tensed up despite his training .He knew he will have only one chance to stop them that is before the power source is connected to the explossive detonator in case they are carrying some but stll he did not know where if at all explossives are and definitely not how they are going to trigger the explossion .So far the suspects are behaving normally except one of the passengers have strted sweating profusly as he fumbled with his cell phone which had the chrger line still attached to the charging socket .Like most airmarshals rajendran and sukumaran have undergone mandatory 2 weeks intense air marshal training programme with federal air marshal service .The first pert of the programme on basic law enforcement was completed at artesia new mexico and the second part of the programme at j huges training centre in new jersey. The subjects covered included constitutional law, marksmanship, physical fitness, behaviorial observation, defensive tactics, emergency medical assistance and other assosiated law enforcement tactics. The main gun he carried on shoulder holster was sig sauer p229 with .357 sig chambering. The magazine held 12 rounds and he had to recertify on the weapon every week .He was supposed to shoot first to stop the target from moving by a chest shot which also happens to be the largets part of any human target to be followed quicky by one or two taps to the head to incapacitate the traget completely .Initially all us airmarshals boarded before the passengers and followed a strict dress code .However indian air marshals never followed this practice and that included rajendran who was dressed in a typical gulf welder type clothes and sukumaran who was undercover in flight pursuers uniform of the airline serving soft drinks to the passengers at the same time closely watching thier behavior and carry on without raising alarm.

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL -DABOLIM NAVAL AIR STATION -GOA
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sr air trafic controller watched with concern the two sea harriers on routine training sortie comming dangeroulsy close to high altitude commercial airways connecting kochi and thiruvanthapuram to dubai . Both the sea harriers were at 20000 ft standard cruising altitude and turning in shrply for thier final line up to intercept the landing vector to INS Hansa . The projected path will take them too close the the indian flight 334 from kochi to sharjah .While there was still adequate virtical seperation as per international air transport norms he still decided to play safe and spread out the flight a bit more .

- hornet fligth -trafic alert -you are too close to commercial air corridor -break right immediately -set course 165 -climb to flt level 350 repeat to flight level 350 immediately -report when indian airbus in sight -confirm -over
- IC 334 -dabolim tower -trafic alert - turn left immediately -set course 280-descend to flt level 250 repeat 250 immediately -report twin sea harrier when in sight .

It was not exactly a near miss situation but quite close to it ,the goa trafic controller cursed his junior controller whose was responsible for this sector of coastal airspace with a stern warning to be more careful in future . The confirmatory mesages strarted comming in almost immediately.

- dabolim tower -hornet flight -executing max rate climb to flt level 350 -course set to 165 -over
- dabolim -indian 334 - descending max rate to flt level 250 -course to 280 over .

IC 334 -WEST OF GOA NAVAL AIR STATION
------------------------------------------------------
The seat belt sighn switched on suddenly and the voice of the senior flight crew husky with south indian accent came over the pa system

- ladies and gentlemen -the captain has switched on the seat belt sign -we are expecting some turbulant weather and you are requested to return to your seats and keep the seat belts on till the seat belt sighns are switched off -than you .

The airbus went into a shallow turning dive even before the announcement was over and the three suspects fearing worst went into precipitate action . As they tried to quickly connect the power pack with the explossive laden salwar thinking thier paln have been compromised the indian airmarshals went into action

Rajendran knew he was supposed to use the weapon only as a last resort but then the situation develped to fast for comfort .The sudden turning dive of the aircraft have panicked the terrorists and he was sure it will take them only a few seconds to hook uo whatever thety were carrying and all of them will be history . He remembered his american instructors last words when in doubt shoot first talk later . He intend doing just that .

At that point one of the suspected terrorists stood up unbuckling the seat belt and rajendran could for the first time see the sagging salwar with the heavy linnings pulling down the dress downwrds and the second suspect moving quickly to expose the conncetor under the kameeze to the cord from his cell phone .

Rajendrans hand moved like a uncoiling mamba in the african wilds ,the safety was off even before it cleared the armpit holster as he sprang up and pushed the nozzle right upto first suspects temple and fired point blank twice and in the same motion swung and shot his accomplice into the throat and chest .By the time sukumaran has moved in he executed a perfect backhanded chop crushing the windpipe of of the third suspect who strted gagging on his own saliva .

The passengers were too stunned to react which in a way was good since no one came in the line of fire . Exept the lady in the row right in front of abduls seat who tried make sense of the yeallowish red mess that was part of a human brain now a dirty blotch on her expensive dress .One of the bullets have managed to perforate the aluminium alloy cabin shell and slow depressurisation strarted causing difficuly in breathing and the oxygen masks dropped down automatically and the crew stepped in to help the passsengers use the gas effectively

-dabolim tower - ic334-we have a hostage situation and possible cabin depressurisation-request permission to descend to 10000 ft -also request aerial inspection if possible
- IC 334-you are cleared to descend to 10000 ft - navy harriers being diverted for inspection of damage and escort you to dabolim -you are cleared for priority approach and landing .

The two sea harriers formed up quickly on the stricken airbus and their inspection showed no serious damage except the small hole in the upper half of the cabin thru which pressurised air was escaping quickly and the hole incresed in size considerably by the time the airbus leveled out at 10000 ft .

- IC 334 -navy hornet lead -we see no major damage except a 3 inch hole in the cabin - please confirm if hydraulics is ok and you have control
- navy flight -ic 334 -thanks for the assist - hydraulics and other systems looks good so far -attempting minimum descent rate landing at dabolim -shall appreciate you escorting us in since not familiar with approach path and runway orientation .
-roger that IC 334 - runway is at your two o clock 100 miles out -suggest 200ft/min descent all the way to final marker -follow me

The lead sea harrier swiftly too up the lead position and switched on the navigation light the wingman formed up on the tail of the air bus and the motely covoy at last safe and secure started a synchornous descent to INS Hansa .

Acommon misconception which goes around civil aviation security circles is that a couple of missed shots in side the pressurised cabin of an aircraft can cause sudden explossive decompression and ressult in a crash.Nothing can in reality be far from truth. This logic in fact works in favour of the terrorists who have managed to hijack aircraft with small guns .The myth is further propagated by blockbuster holywwod movies like air force one and gold finger where the effect of bullet holes in an aircraft cabin is excessively dramatised .

To start with the size of hole from the guns of airmarshals is small usally less than 1/2 inch in dia which may some what increase depending on angle of entry and air speed over the hull due to drag effect ,The bullets used are quite small typically 14 rounds can be placed on a standard palm without falling off .The pressurised cabin is not leakproof as such .Leakage thru door seals etc alsways exist .Add to it the bleed air from compressor which is added to the air cirulating conditioning system to maintain the the minimum oxygen leval for the passengers .The two outflow valves and the air blower maintain the cabin pressure at equivalent of 8000-9000ft of altitude over sea level or around 8.5-9 psi automatically by getting its feed back from a number of pressure sensors located thruout the cabin.

As such a single or a couple of bullets can never depressurise the aircraft cabin let alone cause explossive decompression. The pressurised air will just whistle out of the hole with a typical screeching noise and thats all.No passenger will get sucked out as usally shown inthe movies .Some ear popping may take place because of sudden change in air pressure which the blower will quickly compensate till the aircraft comes down to 10000ft or so altitude where outside air has enough oxygen to sustain life .

A much bigger problem is the bullet hitting a hydraulic line usally under the passenger flooring or elctrical lines usally over the baggage racks . So in any on air shoot out the priority is aerial inspection for signs of hydraulic oil leakage or electro -hydraulic control disruption from the cockpit .

Inside 334 the passengers were facing two discomfort .All most all of them were having serious ear popping pain as the cabin depressurised slowly and the aircraft dived to lower life sustaining altitude and secondly the cabin temperature quickly dropped to nearly zero degree centigrade as the the warm pressurised air escaped thru the hole .The engine noise level also increased some what as the hole in the cabin degraded overall accoustic insulation characteristic significantly

But for the time being no one was complaining as they gripped their arm rests tightly and the blood of the shot terrorists flowed in small puddles along the aisle in a sticky blackish red mass .The only surviving terrorist have been already secured with plastic handcuffs and moved to the back of the aircraft by the air marshals .In days to come he will be singing happily in the hands of military intelligence and will be directly responsible for foiling a number of similar attacks all over india but the general public will remain blissfully unware of that .

The airbus 300 touched down with a hard bump on the sprawling main runway of dabolim more than 10000 ft long and designed for the massive tu-142 bears . The commander was slightly worried at touchdown point sinec the hydraulic pressure was low but acceptable possibly due to a small leak but soon relaxed as the auto brake kicked in and the heavy airliner came to a gracefull halt barely covering half of the available length. Even from the flight deck the commander could see the single outdoor broadcasting van of a well known news channel parked just out of the tarmac and he straightened his tie for his day in sunshine waiting outside.

BALOCHISTAN -2012
-----------------------
The defacto leader of balochistan rebel movement nawab babur bugati nephew of legendary leader akbar bugati waited in the semi prepared airstrip near the iran border where rarely any regualr pakistani army patrol passed by.He was waiting for an imprtant package . The first detachment of indian special forces with thier usal load of state of the art satelite based communication gear and laser designation pds etc were scheduled to drop today in about 10 minutes time .A dozen of his team members were scattered around the air strip with battery powered lights waiting for the signal switche them on as soon as the dropping aircraft an il-76 they have been told signals its ready to drop status on the secured frequency .

Babur bugati was not very active in the seperatist movement for balochistan till the his uncle was tarpped and killed in a cave complex with missile firing paf helos most likely gifted by the united states to fight the al quaida terrorists in afganistan. He would never really know who exactly betrayed his uncle since akbar bugati was extra careful about his personal security and changed the administrative cum ressistance comand headquarters atleast once every 3/4 days .Some say the spotting was acciedental when an army helicopter overflying the cave complex where bugati was making an overnight halt triggered intense response from his bodyguards and returned to base damaged .The pakistani military commander in the region immediately rushed more reinforcement including almost the entire fleet of helicopter gunships available in the region . A fierec fight followed but the baloochs were heavily out numbered and a salvo of anti tank missiles fired almost from point blank range brought down the roof of the cave in which the leadre was taking shelter.Along with 38 other leaders of the seperatist movement and thier body guards also perished in the missile strike .A power vacuum was created and the grass root fighters wanted akbars nephew babur bugati to take on the mantle of leadership of baloch seperatist movement which he did with great reluctance .

But as joined the action and planning teams he became more and more involved in the movement .One thing he realised early was without external support both financial and military the chances of any kind of sucess was non existant . So he first visited india in the summer of 2007 when his meeting with various national leaders sympathetic to baloch cause was more than satisfactory . Next time he flew on to moscow and washington from delhi with indian passport and met highlevel officials in the kremlin and departemnt of state . Covert financial and military aid started flowing in and the baloch resistance became more organised and effective . Their fist target was the well protected natural gas fields which fuelled pakistans economy . Attacks with kaytsha rockets and shoulder launched anti tank missiles on the pipeline network and gas wells were now a daily occurance and natural gas output from baloch gas fields have fallen by more than 53% in the last few years as ressult of these attacks .To make up for this shotfall in energy availability pakistni rulers diverted more and more of their scarce hard currency into importing crude and lng from gulf which otherwise would have gone to purchase military equipemnt .

The morotola air to ground encrypted radio crackled into life inside his baggy kammez and in the distance he could make out the navigation lights of the candid blinking on and off in pre arranged sequence as it lined up for the drop.Around the drop zone his team members saw his signal lamp switched on and they did the same with their hand held battery powered lamps . Soon dark shapes started tumbling out from the rear cargo ramp over the drop zone as the pilot tried to keep the aircraft on steady courseat near stall speed over the drop zone .His flight plan called for a direct route from tehran to kabu with military supplies and this small diversion was strictly unofficial .

Very Accurate. I really liked the way you presented it. To the point, concise, precise description.

BALOCHISTAN -2012
------------------------
The killing of resistance leadre akbar bugati in late 2006 was in fact to the opinion of many the starting point of the implossion of nation state of pakistan built upon outdated religious ideology and ruthless exploitation of the common people by military political elite since independence in 1947 .While after initial faltering indian democracy went from strength to strenght and the finnce sector reforms led it to an unparalleled economic growth path pakistan slowly and steadily snak into the abyss of mindless political violence ,religious fundamentalism and bad governance all acting together to bring the failed state to its logical doom.

The first over indian support for the baloch cause was also voiced around the same time when a senior ministry of external affairs spokesman said baloch problem should be solved by political dialogue and not military force .As usal it elicited hostile and negative remarks from pakistani establishment but that did not alter the ground realities one little bit.

The spectre of violence by baloch seperatists demanding their rightful share of regions natural resources mainly oil and natural gas was met by equal level of ruthless counter violence by the pakistani army and the the cycle of violence soon spiralled out of control .News reports of those days refelected this situation every day

- tribal insurgents ambushed a convoy of paramilitary troops in pakistans restive south west killing two soldiers and a civilian .The soldiers of para military frontier corps were travelling in a convoy of 3 vehicles in tubat district in the south western province of balochistan when militants fired rockets from nearby mountains
Two soldiers and a man riding a mobike was also killed in the attack

- a soldier was killed in an landmine explossion and another injured in kohlu distrtict .
Baluch militanys have been waging mini insurgency for more autonomy over their oil and gas resources but recently intensified thier campaign.Unconfirmed reports said the presidential party was also fired upon .The pakistani military crackdown was one of the most intense ever .The army crackdown co incided with annoncement privatisation of two gas didtribution firms in balochistan .Unconfirmed reports say more than a hundred were killed .Independent human rights commission of pakistan accused the govt of gross human rights violation in the region.

- two home made bombs exploded in quetta region
the first bomb went of in quetta city the capital of sothwestern balochistan province and the second one in mastung a town south of quetta.Pakistani officials admitted these are the handiwork of renegade tribesman wanting a bigger share of gas and other resources extracted from thier region.

- in another attck militants fired rockets at two diffrent gas field in the region.

Pakistan as usal blamed indians for the baloch insurgency accusing it of financial and military support to the baloch rebels thru its consulates in jalabad and kandahar -which the indian govt promptly denied as baseless. The pakistani foreighn ministry also kept on accusing indian involvement in pak afgan border which was responsible for worsening the situation in the region .India denied these accusations too .

And six years after that situation in balochistan and north western provinces of pakisatn reached a stage when not just the stability of the region but safety and security of the most of the civilised world as a whole depended on a quick and decisive solution to the problems of alquaida, talibanisation of north western frontier along the durand line ,tribal insurgency in balochistan and nuclear aspirations of iran all inexorably linked to the failed terrorist state of pakistan

CHARLES DE GAULLE - GULF OF ADEN
-------------------------------------------
Vice admiral franco watched the down loaded radar plot from the hawk eye .His assignement was to join up with indian navy carrier vikramaditya and provide close air support to 1st marine expeditionary force and indian paras with a detachment of forighn legions to land in the coastal city X in southewrn pakisatn .But before that he had one more job to complete .A surprise "attack " on indian carrier group some while still within the shallow confines of gulf of aden before entering the arabian sea . So far evrything was normal ,the indians look like are taking things easy .Vikramaditya ex russian heavy aircaft carrying cruiser modified with ski jump and arrestor aire assembly to take on the complement of mig 29ks. Though for public consumption the no of mig 29k onboard was mentioned as 16 plus the usal complement of kamovs and sea kings ,franco knew from french naval intel sources in karwar as well as within mig corporation indian navy has been delivered upwards 46 mig 29ks and at the moment she was most likely carrying atleast 28 fulcrums on her deck and hangers.

INS VIKRAMADITYA - COMBAT INFORMATION CENTRE
---------------------------------------------------------------
Surrounded by perhaps one of the most formidable air and underwater defense screen available this side of the world she sailed like a queen in her prime . The immediate air screen were composed of INS mumbai, ins bangalore, ins kolkata and ins mysor .The next layer of escorts comprising of 4 anti submarine frigates and under the waves 2 scorpenes and 3 kios completed the retinue . Flag ship of indian navy was going to war and she was not going underprepared .Apart from 2 kamovs constantly on air and 3 mig 29ks on combat air patrol 24x7 and another 6 on 5minute alert parked on deck it will not be an easy target for any force in the world let alone pakistani or for that matter plaan in any of the oceans of the world .

250 kms to the south east ,in goa naval air station six su-30 mkis were on operation ready platform to come to assistance of the fulcrums should the enemy be foolish enough tolaunch a saturation attack .Two of the sukhois were equipped with single ultra long range 400 km + india modified ks -172 air to air misisles for the express purpose of taking out any early warning aircraft if it come anywhere in withing detection range of the vikramaditya carrier group .

The navy phalcon actually an airforce unit loaned to the navy just for operational control purpose but flow by airforce controllers and pilots lurked at 35000 ft quartering the sky all 360 degree following the commercial air trafic corridor between thiruvanthapuram and mumbai. As the carrier group moves up north over the next few weeks very slowly so would she always close to a land base to land on or call up additional escorts if threatened .

Except the fleet commander no one was aware of the impending surprise "attack " by french rafales .The weapon lock status will be issued to the mig pilots just before the " engagement ". All authorisation to launch surface to air missiles will be automatically withdrawn just before the french aircrafts launch from thier carrier .The whole idea was to test the fulcrum and rafale pilots how good or stupid they are in a tactical surprise situation and also test the french and indian air battle commanders thier skill on controlling quickly developing high speed naval air combat situation.

CHARLES DE GAULLE - EXITING GULF OF ADEN
----------------------------------------------------------
Twelve rafales took of within 15 minutes in a wave of high pressure steam and jet blast and climbed high . After 5 minutes 6 super etarnds took of and climbed to 2000ft ,retracted landing gear and flaps ,switched off engine re heat and dived for the wave tops .

Finally the fresh hawkeye took off majestically to follows the rafales and eternds in "battle"

SKY BOLT FLIGHT - 12X RAFALE +1 HAWK EYE - 350 KMS FROM INS VIKRAMADITYA-0600 hrs
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 12 rafales came in high and fast on full military power in a wide arc at four diffrent flight level with a vertical seperation 1000 ft and air search radars on standby as they got all thier navigation data update vide the high speed data link from hawk eye and made no attemp at concealment as they encircled the vikramaditya battle group overtly isolating it for the time being from the land based support .

OCEAN KISS FLIGHT -50 FT OVER THE WAVES -400 KMS FROM VIKRAMADITYA -0605 HRS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The six super etendards was however following a totally diffrent tactics .Flying just over the wave tops each loaded with single extended range exocet anti ship missiles they were flying tight barely 50 ft of vertical seperation and 300 ft of horizantal seperation and strict emcon which meant even the radio altimeter was on standby mode and all radars and threat recievers switched of .They planned to activate the surface search and tarck radars only when ready to "launch" the missiles all in a single salvo and all at the flagship of indian navy .Thier only contact to the target was the data link from hawk eye operating on high speed burst transmission mode that to periodically .For all practical purpose they did not exist

BLUE BIRD FLIGHT - 0610 HRS 100 KMS DUE EAST OF VIKRAMADITYA
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the radar operator in charge of the sector covering western approach to the the vikramaditya carrier group pushed the red button calling attention of the senior air battle commander a naval aviator with captains rank as he saw the large flight of 12 rafales and the hawk eye appear on the periphery of of his radar scope .The soft ware on the signal processor automatically identified them as rafales and printed on the screen thier approach vectors as well as the projected flight path which would bring them well withing the strike range of carrier group .

Captian neelam was the first female naval aviator in indian navy to reach the captains rank having earned her position just by flawless flying of sea harriers of ins virat in the last ten years in fact she was one of the first naval aviator to be inducted into indian navys aviation wing .However she could not qualify for the mig 29ks even after 3 attempts and opted for air battle commandres course which she passed with flying colours .

Neelam could clearly see a typical saturation attack forming up but still she felt some thing was missing in the giant jig saw puzle comming alive over the ocean. As she pulled down the sat phone link her training reflexes took over as she quickly strted issuing orders with an assumed authority far beyond her age or position in the navy .

At that point she had direct operation control of all the elements in the upcomming battle and atleast for next few minutes she will have more authority and resources at her command than the navy chief .

- General alert repeat general alert - incomming saturation air raid in progress stand by for specific top priority ops orders and acknowlwdge

As the acknowledge ments came in and every one on the airdefense net went on standby mode she strated issuing the orders clearly and precisely without hesistation and confusion the features which have brought her to this crtical operAting position in the first place

- navy 1(vikramadity) -launch all available aircraft -repeat launch al aircraft now -12 bandits -type rafale -suspect some additional assest not yet detected - contact for interception vector when in air over
- dabolim tower launch zingo flight now -target hawkeye - target vectors are---- - escorted by rafales -contact immediately after take off for updated target vectors and strike clearence
- dabolim tower -launch alpha flight i 5 minutes -target rafale group -contact imediately after take off for updated target info from blue bird
- all air defense units you are not weapons free -air engagement in progress

And the stream of instructions continued

INS VIKRAMADITYA 0608 HRS
-----------------------------------
-Clear deck for aircraft laucnh

The air boss quickly looked down the ski jump equipped flight deck one last time as the first of the mig 29s pivoted into take position and punched the runway signal light from red to amber .
The second mig was quickly comming into hold position behind his lead
as the lead fulcrum waited for take off clearence
- trishul one -you are cleared for immediate take off - contact bluebird one on frequency 234.67 when in air - refuelling facility not available at present - go go go

The twin rd 33 s roared in unison as lt commander vijay pushed the collective to stops still stnding on the brakes ,confirmed flaps are indeed in take off position and both the engine rpms touching the redband as he slouched down and releases the brakes in one quick smooth motion unharnessing the power of many thousand horses to push him past the take of speed before the ship runs out .As the powerful thrust forward slamed him back to his seat he could just feel the slight change in seat pressure as the mig 29 went over the ski ramp and then into the salty air of arabian sea . He waited just for few seconds for the air speed to pick up some more against all his natural instincts to pul back on the stick and only when the mfd air speed indiactor window flashed blue he pulled back on the control stick gently bringing the aircraft into a slow climb at first and confirmed retraction of the undercarriage .Only when the air speed crossed 280 knots that he relaxed a bit and pointed the nose of his fulcrum towards the rising sun and pushed the transmit button

- blue bird one -trishul lead -request intercept vectors
- roger that trishul one ,came the cool and clear voice of captain neelam over the radio waves -turn right heading293 -make altitude 20000ft -multiple bogeys -type rafale -you are not weapons free-repeat not weapons free -report when you have missile lock for further clearence
-Trishul 2 -trishul- one form on me - engage data link - emcon 1 -

By the time the first two mig 29s were vectored out the second flight was in air and captain neelam took on the mantle of trafic policewoman in air one more time

-blue bird one -kirpan lead -request target vector
-roger that kirpan lead - descent to 3000 ft -make your course 230 - search for still unidentified bogeys possibly at deck level -type of bandit possibly rafale or super etendard with anti ship missile -use india rome system for tracking - data link frequency to blue bird one for nav and target updates is ---- over

And the deadly game picked up speed as more and players got involved

INDIAN AIRFORCE STATION X-RAY
------------------------------------------
Unknown to general public or for that matter very few people in the world somewhere between karwar naval base on karnataka coast and dabolim naval air station there exists a super secret indian air base rarely used .This houses the super secret squadron of su 30 mkis equipped with air launched brahmos and ks 172 and there is no practice flying ever. The pilots get thier usal weekly flight hours by driving down to karwar or dabolim where flankers from lohegaon and karwar make routine stops .All suplies are air dropped to karwar and then transported by air forces own transport to the base.

The base was created with a very specific purpose .In the aftermath of gulg war 2 and enduring freedom indian naval planners felt some what vulnerable at the brazen dispaly of military might by the worlds only superpower left to create or initiate a plitical change in a sovreign country just because they have a different political outlook or they aspired to have weapons which might some day be percieved as a threat to their global military supremacy .

It was also known to indian navy planners the most used tool of aggressive us foreign poicy was to use the carrier task forces to browbeat independent nations to submission when all other means failed .

With that evantuality in mind indian navy looked at the world market for weapon systems which can deter a multi carrier tsask force from quickly moving into the indian ocean region particularly the arabian sea which houses along the coast most of the nations important strategic and economic assets.

There were only few truelu effective system available and all of them were planned to aquired and inducted into indian armed forces quitely and without usal democratic circus in the parliament .

-the first to be aquired were the su-30 mkis perhaps the best air dominance aircraft available and with a phenomenal weapon load ,powerful upgradable avionics and ofcourse operating range which would allow it to intimadate carrier task forces far out in the sea
- aquisition of air launched anti ship missiles brahmos for fitment to above su-30 mkis
- joint development of of ks 172 novator ultra long range air to air missiles for taking out both the awacs and if nessecery low earth orbit recon satellites when launched from high altitude aircraft like mig 31 ,su-35,su-37 and mig 25 .For effective satellite interception the launch altitude had to be atleast 20 km
- a small but effective arsnel of thermo nuclear warheads with dedicated agni series of delivery vehicles to be used if the above methods fail to achieve the desired objective neutralsing hostile naval/air forcec .

The basic idea was not to defeat the worlds remaining superpower (which no one seriously believed is possible in a conventional battle)but make the cost of any forced policy implementation whether change in govt ot nations independent policy by force very very costly and hence unacceptable to ameriacn public . Irrespective of political colour the govts of india have decided that repition of iraq or afganistan will not happen again atleast not here.

No doubt russia was the key ally who not only supported indias basic security objective but actively supported the agenda by opening up its most classified technologies for joint upgrades and the brahmos project was the first crowning success .The next was development of air launched version .Followed quickly by the ks-172 novotar missile system. Then the "leasing" of nuclear attacksubmarines as a part of vikramaditya package .Finally help in reactor integration of indias own ballistic cum attack submarine .Then came the first refurbished squadron of tu-22 m3 mki supersoniv bombers each capable of carrying multiple uran/brahmos and if correctly escorted into a battle zone quite capable of inflicting serious damage to even the most well protected carrier group if not sink it.

Airforce station x-ray housed the strategic reach of indian navy and airforce in a small way.Apart from brahmos equipped sukhoi 30 mkis it also housed the lone tu-22m3 enhanced squadron of 24 tu-22m3 supersonic bombers . Protected by s-400 and arrow 3 missile batteries it was said to be impregnable to a ballistic missile strike though the clam has never been tried. In the distance the silos of agni 3 looked like small humps on the hilly terrain surrounding the base .

There was only one person who could activate this "dormant "base to action and it was captain neelam or the active battle commander in the region but even then she had to get real time authorisation from the director of naval operation before she can link up and issue the urgent ops order .Even she did not have any idea about its location except a general idea because of her station on the phalcon awac and expressly forbidden to put down any info on x-ray on paper or on board computers .

Airforce station x-ray was the ultimate deterence to an invading fleet .

Though the political leadership of india failed t understand the significance of aval power projection capability as an instrument of foreign policy implementation tool ,despite seeing the same on television and news papers almost every day during cold war -the indian navy fortunately was under no such illussion. During 71 s liberation of of bangladesh when the ageing vikrant with its complement of outdated and underpowered fleet of alizes and sea hawks were carrying out strike operations in the coastal towns of erstwhile east pakistan soon to become bangladesh -one of the most powerful carrier task forces in the world centred around uss enterprise entered the bay of bengal closely tailed by a small soviet anti carrier force. At that point location of vikrant precluded any support from land based aircraft of the air force nor did at that point indian airforce was capable of engaing the 100 odd aircraft complement including f-14 tomcats armed with sparrow and sidewinders in the deep seas .Vikrant itself was operating at reduced power one of her boilers literaly strapped on to prevent steam leakage .In short the only indian aircraft carrier was fully and totally vulnerable in the face of a nuclear powered much superior carrier group. She could have been been sunk within hours if at that point us administration felt it would be in in american national interest .Maybe it would not have affected the outcome of the war or the birth of bngladesh but definitely would have robbed the nation a significant military triumph.Whether soviet ships would have reacted in support is doubtful and the enterprise group would have exited the bay of bengal without a scratch after having sucessflly teached indian navy a "lesson" for daring to defy the will of usa.

Fortunately it did not turn out that way . Several factors were responsible .First and fore most the indomitable guts of late indira gandhi who simply refused to be browbeaten into submission even when under maximum political military pressure .Secondly the indian navy itself who knowing they were the targets of worlds most powerful fleet carried on thier duty regardless with thier outdated tiny aircrafts knowing fully well it may turn out to be thier last day and they may not see thier ship when back from a sortie.

Several lessons were learned from this near disaster . Within 3 years india went nuclear and the first step towards any aggresor was taken by making the price of aggresion very high -but then it stopped or slowed to a crawl .Modernisation of navy and more specifically naval aviation too a back seat the lessons of bay of bengal was forgotten . While lot of ink was spent in projecting indian blue water navy in paper no new carrier was added to the fleet till ageing vikrant was almost non functional hulk when hermes just back from falklands was inducted as ins virat .negotations for purchase of goroshkov went on for centuries till finally it joined the navy as vikramaditya with state of the art mig 29k s and at last indian navy had some thing which would propel it into world stage as a true blue water navy once the two soon to join air defense ships yet to be named will join the fleet .

And chances were lost to add on to the carrier strenght of indian navy .In mid 2000s us navy annonced de commissioning of uss midway and at that point us administration was for a change looking favourably towards india as a strategic ally in its war on terror .India could have asked and may be got the mdway at a throw away price like goroshkov and refurbished to its need with a complement of super hornets and this would have substantially improved its blue water capability . But it did not ask and did not get mid way which went o to become a carrier museum off the navy piers of san diego .The same happened with russian carrier or rather heavy aircraft carrying cruiser varyag capable of launching the formidable su-33s but then again both the navy and govt faltered and before the any serious negotiation could strart the chinese govt moved in and towed out the formidable warship all around the world to be made a tourist destiation

Contrary to some what if not totally confusing and contradictary attempts by indian political leadership in creating carrier based naval power projection capability due to some real and mostly imaginary constraints in aquring even the minimal exposure to the design and architecture of large modern carriers and thier propulsion PLAN went ahead with a dedicated single minded programme to learn as much about carrier design by any means available.Since most of the proven carrier bulding nations refused to deal with china particularly in such critical strategic area like carrier design china went ahead and started buying decommissioned and half completed ships mainly from soviet union /russia to train her engineers in the art of building flat tops .

China ambition tobuild a blue water navy based on carrier task forces and nuclear submarines dates back to 1950s but was not seriously pursued till 1980s when admiral liu hua quing became the commander in chief of PLAN and later went on to become the vice chairman of central military commission.Liu has studied in vorshilov naval academy in leningrad between 1954-58 and was the driving force in converting PLAN from a coastal defense force to a regional naval force or significance during his tenure .Under the influence of liu and other equally motivated senior naval officers who believed in offensive power projection capability of a carrier PLAN started study the possibility of a building a carrier in 15000-20000ton catagory which would be suitable for carrying a small complement of vertical take off and landing aircrafts and helicopters for anti sub operations some thing in the line of vikrant which was then operational with indian navy .As a part of this research programme hms melbourne was purchased from australia a 15000 ton carrier. The carrier was located in sea port of guanzhou for more than 5 yrs when plan engineers got thier first exposure to a conventional carrier design first hand. But obviously the knowledge gained from hms melbourne was not enough for plan to start making thier own carrier and fter the end of cold war they approached the ukraine govt for purchase of varyag the still to be finished soviet kuznetsov class carrier which was structurally complete but had no engine or drive gear and electronics .The offer for purchase was refused by ukraine initially under russian pressure .China then approached russia for purchasing the kiev class carrier but here again they were not sucessful .There were also unconfirmed reports that france did offer to sell 32700 ton clemenceau the deal did not go thru and the ship was sent to indian ship breaking yard at alang to be scrapped raising a wail of proyests from environment groups on its residual asbestos content . Why indian shipyards did not use this free chance to study the design and architecture of a modern carrier while they were in the process of making thier own first carrier more less same size in cochin is hard to explain.

Finally two chinese private companies managed to purchase thte two decommissioned carriers minsk and kiev which they studied in great detail before converting them into floating tourism parks and loacted in shenzhen and tianjin respectively. Why indian naval engineers did not take up the chance to learn from these proven design will again never be answered , Whether these two ships could have been purchased and life extention programme done on them was never explored .Though logically no reason why the russians would not have done the same for us with kiev and minsk what they did for gorshkov .In that case today we could have boasted of a fouror five carrier navy - a true blue water force to recon with. But then it never happened ( virat, vikramaditya, chandragupta(varyag),hyderabad(minsk),indore(kiev)
all because top indian navt brass and the politicians were too busy with projecting thier own financial interests rather the security interests of the nation.

But the plan never gave up and in 1988 a macau based tamusement company bought the 70% completed varyag a massive 67500 ton carrier for a paltry 20 million us and told the world it would be converted to afloating casino. The contract with ukraine stipulated varyag cannot be used for military purpose .Before handing over the ship ukraine removed the powerplant and electricals to prevent it being commissioned as a ship of war. After a long delay the carrier varyag arrived at dalian naval base instead of macau as originally declared and taken under heavy security cover as the plan tried its best to restore the ship to its original purpose of launching su-33 s or 27s against f-18s or maybe mig 29k of indian navy .

With a currenc reserve at that time touching 150 bilion and increasing indian govt did not bid for varyag surely 20 million us was not a big price to pay for a 70% complete 62750 ton carrier but then if indian govt is not called ostrich minded for nothing .

AIRFORCE STATION X-RAY -SOMEWHERE IN THE WESTERN GHATS 0613 HRS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
deep in the bowels of low mountains the squadron commander of alpha flight listened with interest the exchange of radio tafic between the phalcon and carrier aircraft .The main intercept group of 8 mig 29s were now on a classic intercept course with the incomming rafales still radars off and totally guided by the navigation data from the phalcon. The rafales were doing the same getting thier data down loaded fromthe hawkeye trailing about 100 kms behind .

The six mig 29s searching for the super etendards were having less luck .At 75 ft over wave tops and a rough seas their data link was beomming untsable leading to frequent reboots of attack computer .Added to that they have been told not claim a " kill" till positive visual ident have been made and searching and finding a low flying super etendard at wave level being flown by nuke deliver capable french pilots was difficult .

The triple encrypted voice link came alive with the some what distorted voice of blue bird base air battle commander

- x-ray -blue bird -commencing authentication flood alert-standby
- blue bird-x-ray -standing by to copy flood alert authentication
- code yeallow repeat code yeallow - naval request number bravo zule delta 4567 repeat naval request number bravo delta zulu 4567-activation code orange sun repeat activation code orange sun - priority flash-confirm over

The two sukhois 30 mkis each armed with single novatar ks 172 ultra long range air to air missiles comence engine start sequence as the armourers rushed over to the large belly mounted missiles to rotate the fuse to stanby postion and also check on the two r-27s and two r-73s which any flanker on combat mission already carrier .

The steel reinforce blast door strted opening on the sprawling underground parking apron as the whine of twin engines filled the confined space and extra heavy duty blower tried thier best to extract the smoke and fumes as the su 30s started thier taxi run at minimum power til out of the hard shelter and turned into the the single 10000 ft runway facing the arbian sea .The green mossy astro turf coveing on therunway rolled in to its recessed hosusing to reveal the extra reinforced concrete
concrete runway as the two sukhois positioned themselves for a formation take off uplinking directly to the orbiting phalcon for take off clearence

- blue bird -alpha flight -request clearence for take off
-alpha flight -blue bird - you are cleared for immediate take off -climb runway heading -make your altitude 2000 ft -make course 270- target dat down load on delta zulu band -over
-rolling now -alpha lead

The take off was smooth ,the long runway and comparitively light load as the two dedicated awac killers took to skies effortlessley and turned on a direct intercept course to the french hawkeye still about 500 kms distant. They kept the after burner at 50% max even after take off and swiitched on thier own powerful air search radars 300 kms from target and armed up thier missiles .In the periphery of the radar scope the four rafales been redirected in thier direction strated increasing in size closing in at max intercept speed .The target cursor turned red confirming missile lock as both pilots "launched " thier missiles at thelone french hawkeye turned back ,went over the wave tops and came off reheat switching of the radars at the same time .At four time the speed of sound the ks 172 covered the distance of about 300 kms in 7 minutes and "blew the hawk eye out of sky.

The sudden "loss" of air controller forced all the french aircraft to switch on thier own radars and the two sukhois which was hiding in the wave tops re lit the afterburner and closed in for active radar shot at max range .Four r-27s were " launched " with a launch spacing of 10 seconds and then again the flankers went into a steep turning dive to evade the four micas launched at max range by the rafales . As the tarang rwrs strted thier shrill audio warning the flanker pilots split up in a perfect horizantal scissor and went vertical allowing making confusing the intercept alogarithm of micas which splashed harmlessly into the sea .The range was now in the r-73 kil envelope and one after another four r-73s leaped off the wing tip launchers and screamed towards the rapidly closing two rafales which have survived the initial onslaught .This tme their was no escape .

The whole "engagement "took precisely 6 minutes . The two flankers reported the "kills "to phalcon who confimrd the same and went on a direct approach to dabolim for a fuel refill before returning to home base x-ray

OCEAN KISS FLIGHT -100 FT OVER SEA LEVEL -100 KMS FROM VIKRAMADITYA
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the data link from hawkeye died down the lead super etendard pilot had no option but to switch on the radio altimeter and surface search radar .The big image of vikramaditya soon filled the top left hand corner of syntheitc aperture radar plot and he turned into it getting readyto launch the exocet at the centre of big carrier 3 ft over the water line .

The four mig29ks were waiting just for such an oppertunity as the location of french antiship flight ocean kiss became known and confirmation came over the data link
- kirpan and trishul lead -multiple bandits - 3 oclock 100 ft -10 kms -execute missile lock
-blue bird -trishul lead have them visual- turning to engage
- Ditto that blue bird -kirpan lead joined in

The four fulcrums reduced thrust and deployed full airbrake as they executed a perfect u turn in the sky with perfectly diminishing air speed and aquired the low flying super etendards almost immediately .
- blue bird one -have missile twin missile lock on all bandits at 7 kms -"launching missile" came the unruffled voice of lead fulcrum pilot as he cliccked on the fire button .In a real war the super etendards would not have known what hit them as themigs used thier super low speed turn capabilty and the helmet mounted sight in perfect conjunction to aquire and launch quicly at low flying subsonic targets .
- blue bird -kirpan lead we claim three kills.
-confirm that kirpan lead and one by one all the four migs claimed to have killed two each which was rather difficult to understand but eight r-73s were fired at point blank range and the claims were justifiable .In the end all of them were awrded 1.5 kill s one full and one assist.

Up in the sky the eight remaining rafales dived in after the retreating migs using thier own airsearch and track radars and neelam had to scream to let know the happy fulcrum pilots that they have now become the prey from predator in a matter of seconds
- kirapn and trishul lead -break off-break off - bandits at 10 o clock high -lin missile launch position .
The mig 29k pilot responded immediately but some what late since the euphoria of "multiple kills" was still with them and as they tried to climb out of the low altitude recently concluded engaement zone the rafales fired the first salvo of micas close in and then then fired the second salvo 2 migs still low on altitude and climbing were "shot down " in quick sucession and the other two tried to split up and dive for the deck once again but they were low on turn energy and air speed and the next salvo of mica "got them just as they were getting into firing postion .Still two r-73s were "launched " and credited with one sucessful kill 50% being the usal sucess ratiofor an off boresight launch .

This engagement tok slightly longer .Almost 10 minutes. In exchange of 4 mig 29ks 6 super etndards and 1 rafale was claimed in addition to 4 rafales and one hawk eye taken by the sukhois without loss

the air battle continued with increasing intensity and ever reducing fur bal type of engagement envelope where the mig had decided advantage of better close in missiles and higher turn rate at low speed .The seven rafales still"alive" split up and spread out to increase the combat air space volume sinec in close qurters the fulcrums took down two more rafales with r-73s and one by a fluke gun pass when the lone rafale under pressure made the fatal mistake of crossing in front of the gsh 6 equipped mig 29 just comming out of a missile evading turn .But as the rafales managed to break out of mig domain of wvr battle zone locked in with the micas as the mig 29s tried to get into thier r-77 launch position by eengaging the afterburner and high g turn arounds to prevent a head on active radar shot .Still 6 micas were fired three each of of infra and radar type boxing in the escaping migs in a tight no escape envelpe .Two more migs went"down and the sky became clearer .The surviving migs cleared out of mica envelpe and then lined up for the last round of r-77 launch just outside the engament envelpe of micas . Two more rafale and one mig 29 was further declared "dead and the .The remaining broke contact and headed for home bases as all of them were now running low on fuel a direct ressult of flying more than 15 minutes on full afterburner .

The carrier vikramaditya was "sucessfuly" defended against a massed air strike even wthout recourse to air defense missile systems but the indian decisive counterstrike was yet to come

INDIAN AIRFORCE STATION X-RAY -0640 HRS

-blue bird -x ray -authentication code accepted -executing jaguar strike now -over

The six su-30 mkis took off in pairs and never crossed 500ft after take off and as the air speed increased over 300 knots they came down to 200 ft and activated thier high speed data link to phalcon .Each of them carried a single brahmos supersonic anti ship cruis missiles from the central pylon and just two r-73s in wing tips for self defense .Witht he hawk eye down and the replacement hawkeye yet to take up its position the french flagship was wide open for a supersonic missile strike . The six flankers approached the french carrier ina wide bow formation covering the full 180 degree of starboard side and precisely 200 kms from the target dropped thier deadly load together but programmed for distinct terminal flight profile into target and returned back . The six misssiles spread out like tentacles of a giant squid and then closed in each "attacking from a diffrent altitude and direction .Two of the missiles were taken out by close in weapon systems but the other 4 struck home .First hit the carrier amidships just 2 ft over the water line and sea water rushed in to the twin pressurised water reactor chamber causing it shut down immediately .With a delay of one minute between each strike the other three hit home with ruthless precission .The second hitting the bridge cutting of all communication and suspending all flight ops immediately ,the third hit the main magazine ressulting in a huge fire ball and the last one hit the reactor casing itself making it implode inwards .

CHARLES DE GAULLE - SAME EVENING -SOME WHERE IN ARABIAN SEA
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All deck lights were switched on as the indian navy sea kings started dropping off the visitors fron indian carrier as the sun was just stting into western horizon like a golden globe . The strike capability of modernised indian navy was a total shock to french naval personnel particularly they were not till then fully aware of air launched brahmos and ks 172 missile system.Just like usaf in 2004 cope india world at first refused to believe that indian naval weapon systems and battle tactics were so harmonised as to be capable of "sinking" one of the worlds most powerful carrier if need be in much less than an hour . During the unnamed exercise both navy and airforce worked like a single fighting force with real time comand and control utilising the dedicated transponders of indian geo synchronous sattelite system and the phalcon awacs .The event once again proved the cold war russian doctrine that given enough numbers and correct weapon systems the nuclear powered carrier forces are very much vulnerable just like a large number of comparitively outdated mig 21s and mig 27s did in a simulated high value strike in gwalior against much better equipped f-15s giving rise the legendary ressults of cope india 2004 .

Even at that point the french navy was not aware of the three kilos lying on thier path at minimum power setting and each of them carrying 4 super fast wake homming torpedoes which they would have released if the brahmos attack failed .The indian naval doctrine with respect to vikramaditya was simple -any strike against the carrier will invite maximum air surface and underwater response to the aggressor -which was considerable and may include the supersonic tu-22m3 too .No navy in the world was ready to take on that kind of punishment except perhaps the us navy and even they were may not be that willing .

As the two carrier groups formed up to form a single strike force thier charge the us first marine expeditionary force turned the coast of sri lanka and enter the arabian sea surrounded by four nimitz class carrier groups and was expected to halt for a few days at kochi for much needed rest and recreation before joining up for the invasion of gawdor and karachi ,simultaneous neutarlisation of all pakistani nuclear sites and air bases in conjunction with indian and russian air forces to be followed by surgical intervention from afganistan to create new independent state of pakhtunistan and balochistan . The map of asia was about to be re drawn once again this time with more rationality than the british had done 65 yeras back .The regime change in iran was still not discusssed but the agenda neverthless .

The powers involved also were aware of indias possible intervention in
gilgit and chitral region of kashmir about the same time to take care of the terrorist camps once and for all and establish a buffere zone in the region with autonomous power to local commitees for day to day adminstartion just like it has been done in indian kashmir . In the long run it was planned to totally demilitarise kashmir ,give the kasmiris total internal autonomy and only finance ,defense and external affiars will be with indian govt .

The countdown to begining of the end of terrorist state of pakistan has begun

HMS QUEEN ELZABETH -SOME WHERE IN INDIAN OCEAN
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Deep in the bowels of the giant carrier ,behind tripple sealed doors and just over the captive air seperation plant lies the us s strategic reach the complete arsnel of free fall nuclear weapons which would be mated to the hornets if and when required .Though the rules of engagement clearly stated no nuke in the preliminary stage of the operation facing a fundamentalist nuclear armed state had its own danger and the rules of engagement were made some what flexible in this regard .The sealed ops order to the task force commander univocally stated use of nuclear weapons is authorised if the fleet itself comes under nuclear attack or a clear and presnt danger of such an attack exists in view of the joint chief of staff and auhtorisation to use nuclear weapons is isued by the commander of chief thru joint chief of staff . In plain language us armed forces reserved the right to use of nucler weapons in self defense when faced with nuclear armed advesary and pakistan surely fit the bill perfectly .A small authorisation code was all that needed and in certain situation even not that for the use of massive stockpile of free fall nuclear bombs carried on board abraham linchon. All the super hornets on board were wired to take on the bombs by changing the weapon pylon data and power interface and the process usally took less than 30 minutes

The technicians working in the special weapons vault that day sincerely hoped their skill and experience will not be put to test for real but still they went thru the checklist testing individual arming circuits for continuity and signal strenght ,the condition of the sealed power packs ,the radiation level around the weapons and in the vault . Arranged in neat rows were the we 177a missile warhead 200 kt with a variable yield option,we177b 400 kt variable yield,we177c 15kt ,the massive b28 1.1 mton city buster,b28 mod 2 350kt fixed yield ,b28 mod 5 1.45mton fixed yield,b57 depth bomb 10kt and the smallest b57 mod 0 5 kt . Each versio had 3 of each type stored on board considered anough to bring any opposing force to its knees . Alongside were the prctice rounds identical i every way except the plutonium /enriched core . Up on the flight deck six uper hornets were getting ready for a simulated strike at the small port of lakswadeep .

INS VIRAT -SOME WHERE IN SOUTH ARABIAN SEA
----------------------------------------------------------
Her job was to keep the sea lanes of communication open in the hostilities about to begin and protect the west coast of india including the outlying islands . The about to begin war game will test her capabilities to the limit as the newest royal navy carrier will launch a surgical nuclear strike on lakswadep port and she will have to intercept each and every one of them by any means possible .She was allowed the use of land based interceptors and a single mid air refueller but no phalcon as may be the case in a real war situation .

HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH -ROYAL NAVY
---------------------------------------------
The decision of royal navy to send thier yet to be proven carrier in this battle was undertaken under intense us and french pressure . Termed as CVF during design and manufacturing it was the latest generation of british carrier to take to the seas. The basic design was by thales and possible french version was still under manufacture .The sister ship of queen elizabeth prince of wales was still in fit out jetty at portsmouth and not likely to be a part of this war .

At 65000 tons displacement she was definitely large dwarfed only by the nimitzl class of us navy.Though originally designed to take on 40+ f35 joint strike fighters the delay in development of the aircraft forced royal navy to go for incorporation of catapult assited take off and arrestor wire recovery system utilising combat proven super hornets like in nimitz class. At the begining of 2012 almost all of us carriers were still launching hornets though the f-35 navalised versions have been incorporated fuly only in uss ronald reagan .The ronald reagans flight group of super hornets were transfered lock stock and barrel to royal navy including some instructor pilots to bring the new british carrier upto combat ops standard.

The cost of these two carriers were stupendous officially pegged at 6 billion us dolars compared to 4.5 billion for the nimitz class without ofcourse the armament and aircraft complement which increased the cost by another 30% .

HMS queen elizabeth automatically became the most powerful warship of royal navy next only to us super carriers and this made the french navy join the efforts and finally they bought the design from royal navy for about 150 million dolars. Some say the french decision was based on thier un happy experiences on nuclear powered carrier charles de gaulle .

The primary benificiary of this carrier design was us navy who could now slot this carrier with thier carrier groups qithout much problem since apart from the aircraft on board which included hawk eyes and super hornets also used the same catapult and arrestor wire assembly making it possible to use thenew british carrier as a second home for the us hornets in any evantuality .

The queen elizabeth class essentially repalced the invincible class carriers in the royal navy namely invincible ,ark royal and illustrious .Out of which invincible was decommissioned in 2005 but these carrie only nine sea harrier gr 7s compared to 40+ f-18s on board queen elizabeth. With subsequent removal of sea dart missile system the air component of invincible class some what increased in size. The catapult assisted take off and arrested recovery was selected as the french wanted to use thier rafales from the same carrier design

Today was the first operational trial of the super hornets launching from queen elizabeth on a well defended indian island with possible indian counter strike before she moves into to join the indian and french carrier in northern arabian sea to support the simultaneous amphibious landing on gawdar and karachi .

Captain roger smith looked down on the spanking new flight deck yet to aquire the permanent rubber burn scars as in an operating carrier . It still some times surprised him to see the twin island structures each atop the the trent mt30 gas turbine generators with integrated ful electric propulsion system compared to single one in most carriers and absence of nuclear propulssion but still having an unrefueeled range of 10000 nautical miles .The crew strength was more or less same as in his previous command during gulf war 2 namely invincible. While the initial design focussed on short take off vertical landing operation as with f-35s during design finlisation it was decided to go for more conventional angled deck catapult assist take off allowing use of conventional aircraft like rafale and hornet .The carrier final assembly was done in rosyth -a relatively unknown naval dockyard south of dumfermline .

In this mission she was carrying minimum of anti sub helicopters (3 merlin mk1)and 2 hawkeyes since the mission profile dictated her to operate from behind the indian -us sub screen operating around the pakistani coastline .She was also carrying a single v-22 oespray for special force insertion particularly in the pre strike period .The forward island structure housed the long range s1850m thales long range search radar and the rear island structured was alloted for the bae insyte radar system

The first two of the six super hornets were in position on the catapult as the cat officers eyed the cat track for obstruction and the the twin jet blast deflectors came up on the hinges pushed up by the tripple extra long hydraulic arms and locked into position. The carrier made a small course correction as she came into wind and the light on the island structure turned green .The roar of twin engines of the first hornet filled the deck as a shimmering heat haze formed behind them ,as the cat officer punched the cat release button thousands of pound of high pressure steam accelerated the heavy aircraft to more than 170 knots in about 2.8 seconds throwing it out of the angles deck into air and in another 15 seconds the second hornet was hurled out the same way and headed south east low over the wave tops . Two more came into launch position almost immediately but had to wait for a minute as the steam pressure in the high pressure dedicated boileres built up for the second set of launch

If the scenarios have to be made into a book/s, then serious editing and spellcheck has to be done. Once thats done, not only can this be put in book form but we can also have films made out of them. Or serials for TV surely.

On oct 5 the BRF would jam because of huge volume of traffic :). I am not sure by saying oct 5, what does shankar meant... is it wrt to Indian time or wrt to US time.

sudhanshu, BRF will not jam due to that confusion, who knows may be its deliberate.(although I can guess which time it will be)
