It is still useful as a place to vent and posture, cross paths with other diplomats and heads of state.
For many reasons, major powers on collision courses have mostly given up talking to each other and increasingly taking unilateral antagonistic actions, and expressing their positions through (social) media instead of talks between counterparts.
This is a dangerous trend that favours escalation and brinkmanship as we are seeing now.
Ineffective as it is, UN still serves as a safety valve, and UN charter, organisations and accords are still seen by many countries as some kind of credible alternative to the west's "rules based order".
For ex, see how Russia used UN as one of multiple means to safeguard Zaphoriziye NPP and to neutralize dirty bum attempts by Ukra-een, or to evacuate civilians from Azovstal and take PoWs.
If even that is gone we are in for even more chaos and conflicts.

The west now wants the "United Nations" to be "Ununited Nations"., clearly a prescription for free for all might is right etc ..all a good recipe for Armageddon . As JS would say the "wests problems are not the worlds problem"
Re: Russian-Ukranian War: Geopolitical Fallout
Cyranoji, I think it may be precisely because of that these trial balloons are being floated. Russia has a safety valve through UN and has used it to provide their side of events in a world dominated by western media. In this age of total war where anything and everything is weaponised, this is just an extension of the same.

India has been using the UN very cleverly. No, I'm not talking Pakis asking for and getting the customary wedgie.
In parallel to recent UNGA, a whole lot of small nations held meetings with India and met Dr SJ. It seemed almost like India holding a court and dozens of nations attending. Only we did not treat it like that. Most got 1 on 1 meetings, many thanked India for Vaccine Maitri in private and also publicly at the UNGA. Most aired their concerns about rising food and fuel prices and implored India to relay their concerns to G7. We saw India emerge as a globally recognised and sought after trusted friend.
All this happening on US soil under Unkil's nose is the most telling sign that multipolar realignment is real and the world at large is distrustful and fed up with G7 + Chinese dominance.
And irrespective of how they vote on UN resolutions, the non west is not buying the west's story on Ukraine war.
All this is India earning good karma. Jai Ho!

The Dutch government has issued 91 waivers from sanctions against Russia since the country invaded Ukraine late in February, RTL Nieuws reports after talking to the Ministries. The ministries shielded the names of the companies involved, the value of transactions which were exempted, and the business sectors concerned, RTL Nieuws reported.
The information was “company-sensitive,” according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economic Affairs, Finance, Infrastructure, and Education are allowed to grant exemptions to sanctions to “allow a degree of flexibility in specific cases,” the spokesperson affirmed.
In April, the European Union banned ships sailing under the Russian flag from European ports. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management issued waivers so 34 ships could access Dutch ports, for example, because they carried important cargo like aluminum and food.
“Diplomatic relations” was stated as the reason why the Ministry of Foreign Affairs granted one exemption, the broadcaster reported. In the isolated case, transactions which involved Russian banks majority held by the State were permitted to occur.

The attacks on the energy grid are being seen as a bid by Moscow to break the Ukrainian resolve heading into winter as almost 40% of the nation’s energy infrastructure has been damaged by missile and drone attacks, Ukraine's president Zelensky said.
“We are doing everything we can do to save the lives of our people and to protect them. But this winter will definitely be a huge challenge for us," Vitali Klitschko said.

Russia's defence ministry said Ukraine attacked the Black Sea Fleet near Sevastopol on the annexed Crimean peninsula with 16 drones early on Saturday, and that British navy "specialists" had helped coordinate the "terrorist" attack.
Russian Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev said Russia was ready to supply up to 500,000 tonnes of grain to poor countries in the next four months for free, with assistance from Turkey, and supplant supplies of Ukrainian grains

Remove them for the UNSC and work to denuclearize them.
How? Start with breaking their nation. Sub-nationalism works for everyone.

Biden had barely finished telling Zelenskyy he’d just greenlighted another $1 billion in U.S. military assistance for Ukraine when Zelenskyy started listing all the additional help he needed and wasn’t getting. Biden lost his temper, the people familiar with the call said

Then Ukrainian government has a simple choice to make. Assure Russians that they will never become a member of NATO embrace true neutrality.
I don't see the Ukrainian's doing that. So why should I care about the civillian lives about to be lost.

Nihat ji,
Ukranian régimes and right wing neoonazi militias since 2014 have attacked Russian speaking people of their own country in Donbass and committed all kinds of atrocities. They continue to shell civilians in Donetsk even today. They used Russophone civilians as human shields at every opportunity, killed civilians for target practice, took them as hostages un Azovstal, shot PoWs in the knees and tortured and murdered at whim.
So why are they more deserving of peaceful life now in the middle of a war?

At the current junction, those who speak of logic, rule of law, or who sit on the sidelines will be mere road kill. The warring herds will trample them and no one will care. Best to avoid logic, etc, and load up - arm yourself to your teeth.

If power generation capacity is intact, then power can be restored by rerouted cables.
It's quite possible that Dynamos were intact in the plant. But a repeat strike can knock it out for good.

Russia says movement of ships in Black Sea corridor is 'unacceptable'The ministry did not say what Russia would do if ships continued to sail the route. On Monday a record volume of 354,500 tonnes of agricultural products left Ukrainian ports under the grain deal, despite Moscow's weekend announcement, a spokesperson for Odesa's military administration said.
The Kremlin said earlier on Monday that without Russian security commitments, the grain deal was "hardly feasible, and it takes on a different character - much more risky, dangerous and unguaranteed".

Mr Klitschko said at one point, 80% of the capital city had been without water, and hundreds of thousands of homes without electricity.
As well as the power cuts, people have been urged to use as little power as possible, especially between 06:00 and 11:00 and 17:00 and 23:00. Restaurants, shops and other businesses face restrictions on external lighting.
In his post, Mr Klitschko said that from Wednesday, conventional buses would operate on all trolleybus routes, which run on electricity.
The city would set up 1,000 heating points to help keep residents warm during the winter, he added.

US has reported that Iran might attack Saudi Arabia ‘soon or at least within the next 48 hours’ how can a rich country be so foolish to fall for the trap?
