Smriti Irani is on fire! Kudos to her.
Re: A Nation on the March
Modi, in his speech at the Conclave, took down Soros, WEF, Neocons (Blinken), Globalists (to some extent), and the like.
Jaishankar in his interaction at the Conclave took down China. He was blunt.
And, Smriti took down Tharoor and the likes.
None of them even bothered to mince words.
I am sure they all would gladly plead guilty.
Howdy 2024.

He was in the audience...looked shell shocked and trying to gulp for air. His own party "colleagues" in Kerala are working to pull the plug on him, he is not worth much attention from the BJP for now. Mostly reduced to the public speaking circuit these days.NRao wrote:Have we found a Tharoor killer?

Tharoor killer?
Both are not even in the same battle space.
Notice how Ms.Irani is talking about, projects, numbers, effectiveness along health, infra, accessibility to medicine, accessibility to bank accounts, speed of doing business.
While the anchor attempts to talk about "Hindu, Hindutva and minorities". And this can be extended to all the detractors including the opposition. The entire spectrum of lazy a$$ entitled folk can only talk about non-tangible stuff like democracy, freedom, press , media, minorities.

Re: A Nation on the March
Its a recurring theme:
1) BJP talks governance; Opposition talks minorities, Hindutva => Therefore, BJP is communal
2) Brahmins mostly mind their own business; Ambedkarities/Periyarists talk caste, caste, caste => Therefore, Brahmins are casteist
And this perversion of truth is explained by reasoning like this: "You guys don't talk about caste because you are privileged and caste-blind. We talk about caste because its a lived experience and is therefore the lens through which we see everything"

One more term , a cleanup of executive and judiciary and then , I hope, we double our per capita income.
For the opposition, they neither have the mental capacity today nor the required calibre in next generation of kin to challenge . The political landscape in 6 years will have little respect for "known" familes

If India does eliminate TB by 2025, and leads the world to eliminate TB worldwide by 2030, the good karma of that great reduction in disease and suffering will greatly brighten India.

I think India has had the capabilities to do this kind of large scale project for a long time. But it takes a leader like PM Modi to have the strategy, show the confidence in India's capabilities, and inspire the people to do it. I believe that it was PM Modi that insisted over much of the opposition noise that not only would COVID vaccines be made in India but that India would invent its own COVID vaccines. (A few days ago, I came across some RaGa tweet that belittled the whole effort from when it was still in process.) But that is a quality of a great leader - they open the doors and clear the obstacles for their teams and get high performance from them. And in the case of India, the additional quality of having complete confidence in Indian capabilities is needed, and is there.

Re: A Nation on the March
While narrow minded people keep crawling in their colonial mud holes, NaMo led govt takes it's people soaring into the skies. All these India Yesterday's events had only questions designed for politicians of a bygone era and they can't even begin to fathom the clarity, competency and commitment of NaMo or his ministers.
Shri irani's interviewer had no clue how to react to crores of women getting screened for cervical and breast cancer. They are so hopelessly in love with the noisy smelly 3rd world India that they have lost the capacity to feel the blossoming fragrance of Bharat.
For decades they enjoyed lording over what the British left behind, feeding on it with forks but kicking it to keep it down and subservient. The rise of Bharat through the betterment and empowerment of every citizen threatens their ivory towers - that's why so much negativity , despair for the past rather than excitement for the future.

This is the kind of modern celebration of the traditional that I'd like to see in the train stations, airports etc we are building these days. Not the soul less mangles of steel and glass that me too the low end of western architecture and need lot of air conditioning, that's become typical of our development projects these days
I actually think some of the lefty Delhi snooty types did a better job in architecture than the current dispensation which is more focused on quick transformation.
Why can't every public project receive design inputs from local architecture and design schools and incorporate traditional elements into it, not just in facade claddings and jaalis here and there ( at least that would be a start) but fundamentally think of spaces with an Indian mindset. Inspired by architecture of our forts, temples, step wells and so on...
Do we have a ministry of culture?

Re: A Nation on the March
Very good point. And its not like its not happening in pockets. Example: the architecture of Ayodhya Railway station, T3 in Bengaluru etc. But it needs to be mainstreamed. Will provide a ton of job opportunities and look authentic. It will cost the same amount, time & money wise. It will also build new skillsCyrano wrote: Why can't every public project receive design inputs from local architecture and design schools and incorporate traditional elements into it, not just in facade claddings and jaalis here and there ( at least that would be a start) but fundamentally think of spaces with an Indian mindset. Big science. AKA big fraud. Who cares? Even Richard Feynman found Gravity research to be boring and a waste of time.

Yes, indeed great news. Beyond the important research goals, these kind of projects inspire more young Indian minds to pursue pure science. Engineering and applied R&D are not enough to make it to great power status.Amber G. wrote:It's happening... The Cabinet of India approval of the LIGOIndia project has happened! Re: A Nation on the March
Absolutely. We are now in a position to invest in A & B, not constrained to choose between A or B due to paucity of talent or funds. Fire on all cylinders I'd say !
Re: A Nation on the March
We are not even producing 1000 good quality engineering/technology PhDs per annum.

Re: A Nation on the March
There's plenty of data, but they won't back up these statements. Of course, the phrase "good quality" PhD has been inserted to allow prolonged discussion that is aimless.Jay wrote:Care to back this statement with some quoted sources?Vayutuvan wrote:We are not even producing 1000 good quality engineering/technology PhDs per annum.
It's a simple matter: reaching great power status requires a deep science base - its a prerequisite. Developing that base ultimately also sustains a high level of engineering/applied R&D in everything including building the tools needed for futuristic science. Joining "big science" projects is critical now, if we want to lead "big science" in the future. Not to mention the inspirational effect on young minds.
Re: A Nation on the March
A professor emeritus at a top-five CS department in the US returned to India to make this happen. He knows the quality of PhDs in CS for sure. Also Elec Engineering because he had a joint appointment with ECE and CS departments. Admitted that this was about 5-7 years back. Under the current administration India might have made progress in the right direction. Only time will tell.Jay wrote:Care to back this statement with some quoted sources?Vayutuvan wrote:We are not even producing 1000 good quality engineering/technology PhDs per annum.

We can take it to a different thread. This is definitely OT for this dhaga. Maybe "Education" dhaga.Jay wrote:Care to back this statement with some quoted sources?Vayutuvan wrote:We are not even producing 1000 good quality engineering/technology PhDs per annum.
Re: A Nation on the March
By *all* accounts -- This is a BIG deal. Not only these kind of projects inspire more young Indian minds to pursue pure science but also engineering etc.RoyG wrote:What will be the benefit of this research?Amber G. wrote:It's happening... The Indian government will spend about $320 million to build LIGO-India (BTW, India has also approved similar unbelievable amount for quantum computing R&D too over next decade of so.
LIGO-India will help scientists better localize the cataclysmic mergers of neutron stars, Two LIGO detectors can localize these events to within 100 to 1,000 square degrees of sky ..when you add in LIGO-India, a third detector, the localization improves to just 10 square degrees of sky. This reduces the area that astronomers need to search through to pinpoint the merger events. In actuality, with LIGO-India now approved for construction, there will be five gravitational-wave detectors working together in one network, further improving the localization of mergers: LIGO-India, LIGO Hanford, LIGO Livingston, Virgo, and KAGRA.
(I may put some more details in Physics dhaga)
