From ToI:
G20 agrees to give African Union membership on par With EU
Group of 20 nations agreed to grant the African Union permanent membership status, according to people familiar with the matter, who said that leaders are expected to announce the decision during a summit in India this weekend. The move would give the 55-member African Union, which is currently classified as an “invited international organization,” the same status as the EU, according to the people, who asked not to be identified. It’s part of a drive to provide African countries with a stronger voice on global issues such as climate change and emerging-market debt, particularly as emerging markets in the so-called Global South take on a more prominent role in world affairs.
This is indeed a great achievement by India. We have walked the talk and have delivered on one of the most important matters for the Gobal South. Seen in the context of losing influence of G7 and decolonialisation wave sweeping the world, the importance of this achievement is tremendous.

G20 Summit: Delhi hotels to have ‘armouries’ to prevent another 26/11
NEW DELHI: To avoid any shortage of ammunition in case of a terrorist attack during the G20 summit over the weekend, the intelligence establishment is learnt to have set up special "armouries" in city hotels. This will allow commandos an uninterrupted supply of bullets and other paraphernalia during an operation, sources said.
Besides bullets, these storehouses will have loaded magazines, medical supplies, stun and smoke grenades, wireless set chargers, even backup weapons for the troops.
Shortage of bullets and faulty ammunition were major issues during the 26/11 anti-terrorist operation. "Many of the suggestions given by veterans in the aftermath of the terror attacks in Mumbai in 2008 have been incorporated to secure the G20 summit. Most of the measures relate to avoiding surprises in case of any contingency," an intelligence officer said.

The idea of setting up such armouries was mooted during a security preparedness meeting in Lutyens' Delhi a few months ago. "It was decided that a proper supply chain would be maintained as backup for the commandos. If at all an attack took place, the supply team will follow the main team with the required materials. They will not have to run back for supplies. This will ensure that the op is completed without glitch or hindrance," another intelligence officer explained.

Besides the armoury, the security agencies have installed anti-drone mechanisms on the rooftop of all hotels to bring down any unmanned aerial vehicles, aka drones, flying in the vicinity of the facilities. Pragati Maidan is likely to be declared a no-fly zone during the summit meetings.

There are at least 16 city hotels that will host the visiting dignitaries, including heads of states. From using advanced intrusion alert systems and posture detection mechanisms to deploying deputy commissioner-rank police officers as "venue commanders", the security establishment has put in place an elaborate security apparatus to prevent any untoward incident during the international conference. The venue commanders will liaison with the foreign security team members in coordination with the Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing officers.

The verification of hotel staff has been done over multiple rounds. There will be a separate set of staffers for each floor of the hotel and their movement will be restricted to that floor at all times. This is being done to ensure that the security personnel only have to deal with "visibly identified" staffers. "The workers of one floor will not have access to any other floor. They will use specially programmed key cards during the summit time for entry and exit," an officer said.

The cops and security personnel will have around three rooms in the hotel for themselves. Two of the rooms will be converted into security control rooms under the control of the venue commander.

Good, enough info to dissuade. We don't need more info in public domain.
The govt should also announce
1. any MSM journo or SM reporters Indian or foreign, found violating security orders as imposed by the security personnel on the ground will be jailed under anti-terrorist laws or immediately shot if the situation warrants.
2. Any foreign involvement will attract an annihilating response using all means.

There has been a spate of articles on how India will “fail” “suffer embarassment” “Modi must rejine” if a joint communique is not issued in the end.

Looks like the rise of India is causing major takleef and heartburn

@Reuters is supposed to be a "reputed" news agency.

Looks like the anti Modi toolkits have already started to kick in

Media reports based on an article by @Reuters have claimed that prominent business leaders have been invited at #G20India Special Dinner being hosted at Bharat Mandapam on 9th Sep#PIBFactCheck

Consensus reached, New Delhi Declaration adopted at G20

In a huge win for India's G20 presidency, the New Delhi Leaders' Summit Declaration was adopted on Saturday after consensus was reached among the member states. "Have just got the good news that due to the hard work of our teams and your cooperation, a consensus has been reached on the New Delhi G20 Leaders Summit Declaration," Modi said while addressing the second session of the Summit at the Bharat Mandapam.

PM Modi thanked the ministers who worked for towards building the consensus which was reached at G20 in Delhi.

India proposes new text on Ukraine crisis to break impasse on G20 communique

"It is my proposal that this G20 declaration be adopted," the prime minister said. After the approval of the members, Modi declared that it has been adopted. "On this occasion, I would like to thank our ministers, sherpas, and all officials who made this possible with their hard work," PM Modi said.

It looks like the declaration was unanimous among all the countries, without a single foot note, or chair's summary

What a massive blow to the congis and the mamamia famiglia in particular and the dotty muttrix alliance (apart from the BIF, of course)

No one else but Modi and his team could have pulled this off

From here, the Modi cavalcade will march into the new parliament building for the special session

Bravo India or Bharat, as the case may be

Impressive feat nevertheless.. the ones smarting the most would be the chinese .. aam admi in paki land would even be proud because they are in soooth asia

"India’s G20 Presidency has been the most ambitious in the history of G-20. 73 outcomes (lines of effort) and 39 annexed documents (presidency documents, not including Working Group outcome documents)."

“PM (Modi) had assured the (African Union President ) that under the Indian G 20 presidency, it would certainly be done…And you have seen that he has delivered this assurance that he had made. During the BRICS summit, the then (AU) president came to the PM and he reminded him that you had assured us and you really impacted it,”

India has walked the talk.

Is there any other country in the world that is more fit to be a full veto member of the UNSC ?

Our African brothers and sisters getting a rightful seat at the table.

Need to dig out the predictions I made last year when the Ukraine war hyperbole was at its peak.

While history may remember Narendra Damodar Modi ji as the leader who ended colonialism globally, few will recollect that Joseph R Biden, Ursula Von der Leyen and Victoria Nuland triggered the chain of precipitous events that Modi ji capitalised on masterfully like Krishna and Chanakya rolled into one.

for the dotty muttrix gang, it never rains but only pours

One has serious doubts about these mutts surviving past december, their leaders' fissiparous natures and gigantic egos will sabotage the dotty muttrix alliance well before that deadline, making it fall under it's own weight of supreme and conflicting self interests, and regional contradictions

the two BIF sponsored tonga horses, both of whom are residents of dilli, will finally duke it out, for the dubious honor of losing their puny reputations to a victorious Modi

Now a new headache has emerged for these mutts: who will, and will not, get an invitation to the Republic day celebrations

Special guests of the Republic day 2024: India looking to invite the QUAD leaders

India looks to invite Quad leaders as Republic Day guests

https://indianexpress.com/article/india ... s-8928135/

The Indian Express has learnt that the government is considering inviting leaders of the Quad grouping for the Republic Day celebrations next year.

A final call, sources said, will be taken only after ascertaining the availability of the leaders — President Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

An invitation to be the Republic Day chief guest is highly symbolic from the government’s perspective. New Delhi has been weaving a strategy with hospitality to decide its chief guest for the Republic Day. The choice of chief guest every year is dictated by a number of reasons — strategic and diplomatic, business interest and international geopolitics.

Manish ji,

sherpas are the heavy lifters, they do most of the negotiations with other sherpas, taking instructions from their ministers and govts, on a case by case basis, keeping their govt's supreme interests foremost

each country has a sherpa and Amitabh Kant was India's G20 Sherpa.

Kant was appointed to his current role in July last year, months before India assumed the G20 Presidency.

That's how much heavy lifting the sherpas have done and sherpas often live out of their suitcases for many months at a stretch, and with a demanding boss like Modi, the guy would have been run ragged for months on end

The PMs, Presidents and Ministers are the glamor boys and gals, fine wines, caviar, and expensive cigars is their sorry lot in life and a heavy burden that they have to bear for the sake of their countries as they faithfully discharge their patriotic duties

This Amitabh Kant guy has certainly delivered the goods, both for India, and Modi

Imagine how much Modi himself would have been involved, every step of the way, while juggling many balls in the air, all at the same time

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... 0-autocrat
The US should not normalize Modi’s autocratic and illiberal India at the G20
Jason Stanley, Opinion, Foreign policy, Fri, 8 Sep 2023.
Despite his lip-service to democracy and human rights, Biden keeps embracing autocrats and would-be autocrats

In December 2021, President Joe Biden hosted an event billed as a “Summit for Democracy”. Biden opened his address to the summit by describing his motivation for holding it: “in the face of sustained and alarming challenges … democracy needs champions”.
Since that time Biden has embraced, as allies, autocrats and would-be autocrats all over the world, including the Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, who US intelligence has said was responsible for the brutal murder of the Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. More recently, Biden invited Benjamin Netanyahu, who is presiding over the destruction of Israel’s democracy by targeting its judicial system, for an official visit to the United States.
Biden is right that there is an ever-larger club of backsliding democracies, with the US among them. And the American president is not the only openly hypocritical leader in this club. In fact, he is not even close to the worst offender.
This September, India is hosting G20 leaders under the banner of “One Earth, One Family, One Future”. As a part of the transition to India’s assumption of this position, Narendra Modi, India’s prime minister, has leaned heavily on these themes in promoting India as an inclusive, emerging global power.
Yet behind these lofty ideals lies a very different, and dangerous, reality.
Those in Modi’s ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP), are hardline Hindu nationalists. Their ideology holds that India was originally a pure Hindu state, with minorities, such as India’s large Muslim population, the supposed result of colonization by outside forces.
The hallmarks of fascism are everywhere. School textbooks are being rewritten to reinforce the fake history behind BJP’s Hindu nationalist agenda. Topics like the theory of evolution and the periodic table have been replaced with traditional Hindu theories, and academics have been silenced for calling out the BJP’s election malpractices. The government has weaponized education in the manner typical of fascist regimes such as Russia. There are other clear indications of India’s slide towards fascism. On press freedom, India ranks 161st out of 180 countries, sandwiched between Venezuela (at 159) and Russia (at 164).
Modi and the BJP have proven themselves to be fluent hypocrites on the world stage. Under the banner of anticolonialism, the party is replicating Britain’s colonial practices.

Inside the talks leading to a step-down in the G20’s Ukraine declaration
Behind the scenes, officials were also mindful of how important this year’s G20 has been to elevating Modi as a global statesman. Concluding the summit without a statement would have amounted to a major disappointment; no G20 summit in the past 15 years has ended without one.

The US and Europe have sought to cultivate Modi as a partner and bolster his status on the world stage, making it more difficult to stomach the prospect of blocking a final joint statement, according to officials.
The G20 consensus statement, was due to the US and European decision to "elevate" Modiji's stature as a global statesman. Not because the G20 is not a geopolitical forum to use to selectively condemn your enemies. Not because the world has far greater problems to deal with than the Russia-Ukraine conflict. And certainly not due to Modiji's leadership or Indian diplomacy. But only because the West charitably elevated Modiji to the level of a global statesman.

How kind of them.

On the other hand, were there no consensus declaration, it would have naturally been the fault of, and of course a great failure for "Modi's brand of authoritarian, divisive leadership".
