What's the rocket at 1:20? It's not VLS launched, it's not the gun, it's not the CIWS, it's not the RBU6000, it's not the torpedo obviously. Looks like an anti-aircraft missile.

Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 12 April 2021
Its pouring good news. Too much to handle!!
Wiki says the fleet support ship itself will have armaments like anti-ship, CIWS and anti-submarine?
Per this link, it is armed: https://www.mod.gov.in/sites/default/files/tpcr.pdf
Also, is TAIS Turkey involved as a design consultant or is the design also indigenous?

Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 12 April 2021
They will have the above for self defense. But these ships are usually escorted by other capital ships (destroyers, frigates) who provide the security.
I am not sure if Turkey is still involved in the project.

Good news, the shipyard has stated that the project no longer has any Turkish involvement.
The first ship will be delivered by 2027, subsequent ships, will be delivered at the rate of 1 every 10 months.

Not sure this is real but if it is , it would a tech leap of a magnitude for the IN
Major projects due for delivery during the year 2023-24"
On 31 July, Astra Microwave Products Pvt. Ltd. issued its annual report. Buried in dry text, under the heading “Major projects due for delivery during the year 2023-24”, was an innocuous line item: “6 Mtrs S-Band AAAU for strategic Naval application of DRDO”.
An antenna diameter of 6 meters means a surface area of 36 meters. Pertinently, that makes this radar four times larger than the Israeli one currently installed on our frigates and destroyers., this would be bigger than the ones in type 55 or the American Arliegh Burke destroyers
Is it for new class of destroyers?..

Not necessarily.
It could be for range instrumentation and tracking as well.

https://twitter.com/delhidefence/status ... 24933?s=20 ---> Launch of Yard 12654 (INS designate) Mahendragiri at @MazagonDockLtd on 01 September 2023. The last Project 17A Nilgiri Class Frigate, will be launched by Dr Mrs Sudesh Dhankhar, wife of Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar at Mumbai. Mahendragiri, named after a mountain peak in Eastern Ghats located in the state of Orissa, is the seventh ship of the Project 17A Frigates (Nilgiri Class). These warships are follow-ons of the Shivalik Class frigates with improved stealth features, advanced weapons & sensors and platform management system.
The newly christened Mahendragiri is a technologically advanced warship and stands as a symbol of India's determination to embrace its rich naval heritage, while propelling itself towards a future of indigenous defence capabilities. Under the Project 17A program, a total of four ships by M/s MDL and three ships by M/s GRSE are under construction. The first six ships of the project have been launched so far by MDL & GRSE, between 2019-2023. Project 17A ships have been designed in-house by Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau, the pioneer organization for all warship design activities.
Aligning with the country's resolute commitment to AatmaNirbharata, a substantial 75% of the orders for equipment and systems of Project 17A ships have been ordered on indigenous firms, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The launch of Mahendragiri is an apt testament to the incredible progress our Nation has made in building a self-reliant naval force.

Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 12 April 2021
Just 32 Baraks and 8 Brahmos for a ship of 6.5K tons. Why, time and again, we see this?
Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 12 April 2021
For a frigate the P17A is quite well armed. Especially when you compare them with the future USN frigates.
For a given displacement, the type 54 seems to be the most heavily armed frigates in the world.

What is planned to be built on the line when Mahendragiri is launched.? We have improved in the build time how ever orders seem to be short.

Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 12 April 2021
In what way are Type 54 better armed than P17A, Pratyush?
If you look at the armament load of both of them, they are identical. 32 cell SAMs, 8 anti-ship, CIWS, anti-submarine rockets, torps, 2 helicopters
And considering the ability/lethality of MFSTAR, Barak-8 & Brahmos, I'd give P17A the edge
Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 12 April 2021
The type 54 is under 4000 tons. With the same armament.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_054A_frigate
That makes her the most heavily armed frigate on the planet. Per 1000 tons of displacement.
That doesn't mean that she is the most lethal frigate on the planet.

Probably INS Vikramaditya & INS Vikrant will get it first. Should have 360°coverage through integral radar for aerial and surface target. The radar should have capability for detection and tracking of Mini/Micro drone at 5 km or more, and intercept them while identifying the direction of the drone’s signals.

I really hope the above (^^^) bolded part is true.Simultaneously, discussions have commenced with Naval Group regarding the construction of the additional three submarines. These submarines will be outfitted with operation-specific features, including indigenous torpedoes and air-independent propulsion (AIP) systems for extended underwater endurance. Presently, heavyweight indigenous torpedoes and AIP technologies are undergoing operational validation tests in France.
The three submarines under negotiation are expected to feature significantly more advanced capabilities than the Kalvari class. They may be extended by seven meters to accommodate additional batteries, enabling longer submerged durations. Alternatively, they could be lengthened by 10 meters to house the DRDO-designed AIP unit. These vessels will incorporate advanced optronics, electronic warfare suites, and heavyweight torpedoes with a range of 40 km, coupled with higher explosive content. Furthermore, the submarines will be equipped with advanced/upgraded SM-39 Exocet missiles, with future iterations possibly carrying SCALP 1,000km range submarine-launched cruise missiles.
