yawn - Khursheed Shah advises PML-N not to seek action against Bajwa, Faiz
PPP leader Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has advised the PML-N against seeking action against former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa and ex-spymaster retired Lt-Gen Faiz Hamid and not to engage in such confrontations.
The remarks from the senior PPP leader come in the backdrop of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s recent hard-hitting statement, in which he held the two officials responsible for his removal from power in 2017 and the country’s ongoing crises.
“(Former) chief justices Saqib Nisar and Asif Saeed Khosa were tools [of the former army chief and his spy chief]. Their crime is bigger than a murder offence. Giving them pardon will be an injustice to the nation. They don’t deserve pardon,” Nawaz said, vowing to hold them accountable. These ‘characters’ who unleashed economic misery on the people of Pakistan will have to face accountability,” he added while delivering an address via a video link from London earlier this month.
Likewise, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah assailed former generals Bajwa and Hamid earlier this week, declaring them “national criminals” and demanding action against them. “The way the PML-N brought Gen Pervez Musharraf to justice, it will do the same to [both men],” he said.
In an interview on DawnNewsTV show ‘Doosra Rukh’ on Friday, Khursheed Shah was asked about Nawaz’s statement, to which he said the materialisation of the PML-N’s plan of going after the two former military leaders seemed “very difficult”. “Did anyone touch the man who was sentenced under Article 6 of the Constitution? He was later hospitalised, and subsequently transferred to Dubai,” Shah remarked, referring to late military dictator Musharraf.

Btw -- does Terroristan only refer to Pakistan now??
I feel it should not. There's another country that is increasingly trying hard to claim the title for itself.
I therefore recommend that Pakistan should now be called East Terroristan while the other country
can be called West Terroristan

Re: Terroristan - March 31, 2022
Terroristan is a name given to make it understandable to westerners. It's proper name would be jihadistan
If your suggestion for the other country eligible for the name is the land north of America, then i most humbly propose the following names
1) - 'NAKLIstan'
North American (or Atlantic*) Khalistan
or
2)
NATAK
North American (or Atlantic*) Terrorist Association for Khalistan
*Atlantic - because due credit should also be given to members like UKstan, Norway, etc etc

I believe they think India went to the moon to moon Pakistan.

CPEC expansion plan in doldrums
CPEC expansion plan in doldrums
China has not agreed to further expand cooperation in areas of energy, water management, and climate change under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), underscoring the challenges that both the sides are facing in deepening the economic ties.
Moreover, Islamabad gave up its opposition to setting up a new imported coal-fired power plant in Gwadar and also agreed to a number of Chinese demands to address Beijing’s concerns, the signed minutes of the 11th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) of the CPEC showed.
The details showed that China did not agree to a host of measures that Pakistan had proposed in the areas of energy, water management, climate change and tourism in Giglit-Baltistan (G-B), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and the coastal areas.
The final draft shared with Beijing by Pakistan and the final minutes signed by both the sides were different in many ways.
The details showed that China excluded the issue of financial challenges being faced by the power companies from the final minutes. To ensure the normal operations of CPEC power projects, the Pakistani side promised to take necessary measures to ensure timely exchange to US dollars for CPEC power projects to buy necessary fuels.
Pakistan has given significant concessions to China on the issue of setting up the 300MW Gwadar Power Plant. Islamabad wanted to either shelve the 300MW project or change its location to Thar to use the local coal. Pakistan had also wanted the conversion of the imported fuel-based Gwadar plant to Thar coal to address energy security and liquidity issues to which China did not agree.
China excluded cooperation in the areas of cross-border tourism in G-B, K-P and AJK and cooperation for promotion of coastal tourism from the final minutes of the 11th JCC, the details showed.
China also did not agree to Pakistan’s proposal for inclusion of Water Resources Management and Climate Change and Urban Infrastructure Development in the CPEC framework.
China also did not agree to a proposal to the inclusion of a 500kv transmission line from Hub to Gwadar
Similarly, China did not agree to “carry out joint studies for future development of Thar coal blocks, including development of mega power parks and power evacuation infrastructure"
China also did not agree to the proposal for inclusion of 100MW KIU and 80MW Phander hydel power projects
Similarly, there is no mention of the South-North gas pipeline project in the final minutes.
Pakistan had also proposed participation of China in the national seismic study for sedimentary areas and sought Chinese equipment. But this idea is also shelved at the bilateral level.
Pakistan proposed joint exploration, development, and marketing of metallic minerals and sought Chinese technology, but the final minutes were silent on this issue too.
The planning ministry emphasised that signing of the minutes of the 11th JCC meeting was a testament to the strong relationship between Pakistan and China.

Yawn - ‘90pc beggars’ arrested abroad are of Pakistani origin, Senate body told
The Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis was informed on Wednesday that a growing number of beggars from Pakistan were moving abroad, which has spurred “human trafficking”.
Overseas Ministry Secretary Zulfikar Haider made this disclosure during a discussion in the Senate panel on the issue of skilled and unskilled labour leaving the country.
In a startling revelation, Haider informed the committee that a staggering “90 per cent of beggars” arrested in foreign countries were of Pakistani origin.
He explained that many beggars exploited pilgrim visas to travel to Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Iraq.
The official further revealed that a significant number of pickpockets apprehended in holy sites were also Pakistani nationals

The other disturbing trend in Pakistan is the centrifugal pull of the four provinces (and the fifth and sixth if you include the disputed territories of Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir). There used to be a time when the Pakistan Muslim League (PML), although largely Punjabi, had appeal across all six areas. Similarly, the then centre-left Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) although based out of Sindh could harvest votes across the country. This no longer applies. A leading observer has described Pakistan “as a frail polity, a battered body with a badly bruised soul.”
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan provinces still bear the mental scars of recent insurgencies and the war in Afghanistan. Sindh not only hosts the traditional rivalry between Sindhis and Mohajirs (descendants of refugees from India in the later 1940s) but now has a substantial Pashtun population. Inadequate housing, poor services and congestion make Karachi a powder keg. Even in the Punjab, traditionally the stable hub of Pakistan, the pressures of population are taking their toll. Climate change will bite early in Pakistan adding to the increasing phenomenon of Pakistani migration.
lol, where does he think that these lower middle class gets "educated"? on what basis are these people not islamists? based on some ambiguous marxist notion of proletariat class struggle taking precedence over all? but islam is not merely a religion, it is a way of life, which these commentators never seem to understandThe army is changing in ways which make the future hard to predict. The Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi elites no longer send their sons to the army. Instead they despatch them to university in the US and UK (almost never China) and into the professions or business. This has broken the link between the civilian elite and the army. Instead army officers are now from lower middle class and even more humble backgrounds. They are not Islamist (which was a Western fear in the 1990s and 2000s) but they are less in sympathy with the tiny ruling class in Pakistan and its Westernised habits including democracy. They are trained to be hostile to India but they are also wary of being sucked too deeply into China’s orbit.
and which will never happen is also something that these columnists do not understand, we are currently in a power-differential spiral with the pakis, the price of talks will always increase, if they magnanimously declare that they are a-ok with the current status of j&k. and would like to be involved in international trade, the next item would be ajk, then gb, revision of iwt, balochistan, pashtunistan, sindhAbove all the army should be persuaded to support a new relationship with India, the single act which could transform Pakistan’s economic and political fortunes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi might not seem like the most obvious partner for peace, but he has made a number of positive gestures towards Pakistan in the past and in his expected third term he will be looking for some legacy achievements.

the article on its face value is crap, no two ways to it, i posted it because of what was implied. the only standing military run country, with an islamic society, today is egypt (syria would have counted in the days of bashar-al-assad, but by making the presidential post hereditary, he removed syria, which has been a province of empires for many generations now, part of multiethnic empires and without any separate national identity like pakistan itself, from the list).Manish_P wrote: ↑28 Sep 2023 15:31 It is neither blindness nor kool-aid. egypt, though, had a military ruler till it was arab-spring'ed and then underwent a rule for a couple of years under the muslim brotherhood, which was so reviled by the citizens due to the anarchy that it brought that the military popularly assumed leadership again, governance trumping democracy/anarchy. what the author is saying in the article, and he couches the fact that the military is the de-facto ruler in face of sham-democracy of unpopular regional parties, is that it is the best bet for the country, basically advising against arab-spring'ing pakistan as was assumed to be a possibility in the initial tailwinds of imran khan's arrest, and to continue supporting the military, specifically saying it is not islamist asking readers to learn from the debacle of 2011 egypt and of keeping democracy in its quiver for a later day.
also, every western journalist speaks in the forked tongues of a bat, that is not a revelation, that is dogmatic axiom, what tone they take to peddle their sob story of the day is an intriguing side-quest

UAE bans meat imports from Pakistan via sea
LAHORE: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has banned the import of frozen meat from Pakistan through sea route after allegedly finding fungus in a consignment of meat.
The meat consignment had been sent by a Karachi-based company by sea and the whole shipment was destroyed by the UAE authorities, while a ban was imposed on all further imports of frozen meat from Pakistan through maritime channels at least up till Oct 10.
However, meat exports by air will continue without any break.
Pakistan exports meat worth around $144 million per year to the UAE.
