With the 156 Prachand AoN, hope bulk-orders of Helina & Dhruvastra follow. The current plan is for the IA to order 500 Helinas, which is not enough for even our Rudra fleet

The current order of Helina is generally meant only for the Rudra fleet. The orders for the Prachand will materialize, when the platform itself is inducted. Currently on 5 LSP models have been inducted by IA and 10 by IAF.

Excellent point; with both 156 lch orders and 97 mk1a, we moved away from piecemeal orders! That's a huge change. Wish the interview was longer.

The current order of 40 launchers and 500 missiles is inadequate even for our Rudra fleet of 91 helis. Yes, I am sure more orders will come but its dragging more than it should

WingCo Unni Pillai also says that the Chinese have nothing that compares to the payload carrying capacity of Prachand (& presumably our Rudras as well) at those altitudes

Hat Tip to IAF for supporting Indigenous platforms. When the current chief took over 3 yrs ago, all we heard was MRFA. Now he looks to be the biggest supporter of desi platforms. Great day for our MIC.

I think now that we have our own platform and our own missiles are coming, having extra imported missiles in the interim is okay, like hellfire and brimstone. This will allow interoperability of missiles with the existing Apache fleet there is on the western front and also give us a good 20 km range till home made stuff arrives in numbers. Of course, integration and testing will take its own time.

Frankly speaking, I don't trust him. He has given a lot of Heart burn to me and there was a tectonic shift from ACM Bhadauria's initiatives.
As discussed in other threads, it is only after realization that 2024 elections are there and MRFA etc will not fructify , so lets get something before his retirement to brag about.

Is Prachand being operationalized when attack helicopters are becoming obsolete?

Apart from 7km Dhruvastra (45kg) ATGM twin/quad launchers, eventually larger SANT will be integrated as well.

Prachand would be able to easily carry three 10+km SANT (56kg) ATGM per hardpoint.

Based on this HAL poster, each hard point is rated at least 250kg.

From the Jan 2024 edition of Vayu Aerospace. Interview with HAL Chairman starts from Page 43. Please click on link below....

https://www.vayuaerospace.in/Issue/2024 ... 151624.pdf
Q. An order for 156 LCHs has been cleared...

A. We have manufactured 15 limited series production (LSP) helicopters and now the series production will begin. We have finalised the additional requirements. We want to deliver good numbers every year, instead of the normal 12 – 15. Our target will be to execute this order in the shortest possible time, in five to six years. That’s around 25 choppers per year.
