Yes, the world's top 2 sponsors of terrorism, blaming each other for cross border terrorism, are fitting candidates.

So, this was what Asif Munir’s meeting with Blinken and Nuland was about! Open another front against Iran

Pakistan must have been promised some reward for this. I will not be surprised if the US announces the gift of a couple of squadrons of F-35 to Pakistan citing the ‘threat from Iran’. Will likely happen before the US Presidential elections this year

I don't see why Houthis couldn't get away with targeting Pakistani shipping, giving Iran total plausible deniability.

What would Pakistan do then? Nothing.

Pakistan seems to have used three drones, probably given to them by the Chinese, to carry out the attack some 3km inside Iran. Killed ten, all Paki citizens.
What are Pakis doing in Iran? What type of drones are these?

F-35 unlikely

F-16s highly likely. Including one extra to cover the one lost

Manish ji,

they first have to explain this (eyeraanian tough love) to their awaaam, the now sceptical abdoools and ayeeeshas who have just had a harsh reality check, brutally shoved up in places where the sun don't shine

especially when combined with fact that the now sceptical abdoools and ayeeeshas are increasingly deserting the land of the pure and skedaddling off to eyetally and europe इत्यादि, इत्यादि.........

and the cheen are strictly, and merely, restricting themselves to making soothing noises.

is this the norm for "iron brothers", or is it a symptom of katora phobia/fatigue....

these once self proclaimed (but unwelcome and despised) defenders of their faith seem to have no one to turn to, and find themselves all alone in a situation of their own making, and even the rabid paki pasand congis in India are as quiet as mice..

and to add insult to injury, the IMF debt dilemma continues to loom large.....

^ Chetak sir. I was merely commenting on the probable US-Paki rebound love gifts...

The Pak Fauj doesn't give a damn about what the abduls (the ayeshas don't matter) think about them. The abduls will rant and rage in the daytime, swat flies in the noon and then go back home to produce more nanha mujahids.

IMHO F-35s are highly unlikely. If there are to be valentines gifts then it will be F-16s and their associated munitions. And Radars. Perhaps M777s.

In fact this has been an asymmetric action.

Iran has calculated to exploit the internal schism between sunni and Shia in Pakistan.

Let us observe the various tanzeems’ reaction. Watch social media. It won’t be in Dawn.

sanjaykumar ji,

terroristan needs to show more of a response, if it is serious about echandee, and needs to placate the public opinion and to allow the public anger in the awaaam to subside.....

with the elections coming, there will be, in the short term, seriously completive jingoism among the ragtag paki politicos and their parties..

the paki army has already sent many tens of thousands of involuntarily browned salwars to the dhobis, who may well be the only happy tribe in this fiasco.....

Manish ji,

One tends to agree that the F-35s will not grace this region of the world, not anytime in the foreseeable future

the amrikis will not tolerate the pakis hoping/wishing/wanting to ride two boats simultaneously, especially when amriki tech will certainly be transferred (sold) to the hans.

and the amrikis will not bestow the F-35s upon India, unless they have India well and truly leashed, and muzzled.....geopolitically, as well as, geo economically speaking, and after that they will want to transform the civilizational culture, to completely emasculate the ethos of this ancient land and it's people just like they did korea

and that's a white man's or a yellow man's or even an abrahamic pipe dream.....

right now, the amrikis are doing well enough by hobbling the pakis by remote controlling the tap at the IMF....

this distance helps to keeps the anger in the paki awaaam, against the amrikis, to manageable levels, but the cheen had to learn their lesson the hard way,...... the jihadi way.......

perceptive point, kancha ji and its a good thing that handles like yours initiate discourse such as the underlined, it forces the reader to reconsider preconceived notions; that was one another thing that attracted me to this article, seems to be written by a person of afghan origin living in the uk, till now afg has been poorly served by intelligentsia, but hopefully voices like the above are widely spread to initiate wider discourse, sadly though, afg has such a poor reputation atm that a failed, terror-sponsoring nation is rated higher than it
A_Gupta wrote: 15 Jan 2024 21:19 The official story is that Jinnah and the various tribes of FATA agreed to accession to Pakistan in the Bannu Tribal Jirga of January 1948.
Thanks ricky_v and A_Gupta Ji.
The whole mess is yet another legacy of the British Empire. The wanted a buffer between the Empire and the hordes from across the Hindukush. Subsequently, the requirement of the buffer enhanced to include Tsarist Russia / USSR. Thus came the Durand Line Treaty, which created an artificial line and an imaginary border.

Initially, they tried what was known as the 'Backward Policy', by sealing off at the borders of British India at the beginning of the Tribal Areas and erecting strong fortifications there. The tribal leaders were forced to sign peace treaties. But this policy failed because the tribes didn't respect the treaties! Further, by being sealed off, they could gather in large numbers without being observed and mount concentrated attacks wherever and whenever they chose to. Even Peshawar was once almost lost in this duration.

Next they attempted the Forward Policy by moving right up to the Durand Line. But that too failed due to British forces being spread out too thin.

Finally came the 'Halfway Policy' wherein a few forts were built at key points within the tribal territory at places dominating important passes into India. At the same time, tribal chieftains were bribed to keep the peace while other tribes were paid for the responsibility of maintaining and protecting their lines of communication. (Something similar comes to mind even with the present day Pakistan Army!). Punitive expeditions would be swiftly mounted from these forts whenever any tribe went out of line.

This is a bit of history about the treaty and how the British enforced it. But fact of the matter remains that the Durand Line was still an imaginary border, drawn over areas where neither the British nor the Afghan Govt had control and in the process, cut across familial and tribal affiliations.

in 1947, when the britshits contrived, along with the BIF, to thrust upon India, surreptitiously, and clandestinely, a bunch of clowns as their chosen rulers, their conspiracy succeeded....way beyond expectations...but now, the Indians are slowly and increasingly starting to figure it out

what we were, furtively and stealthily robbed of, was the golden opportunity of an entire society that would have focused all its energies on progress and excellence.

Instead we were hobbled by the sheer weight of a massive albatross around our national neck

Not at all, sanjaykumar ji......

It's more like the present tense for now, and future tense to come.

करे तो क्या करें ......and that's what scares them all....... because they seem to have run out of viable options for now, options that they can safely exercise without damaging themselves either geo economically or geopolitically

and one the guy the dimwit dynast, on whom they all seem to have pinned their BIF hopes on, is busy doing a bad impersonation of a one man band, playing on the deck of the titanic on her very last night....as she inexorably speeds into the blackness, soon to meet her icy fate

but now, the Indians are slowly and increasingly starting to figure it out

I doubt they'd get anymore F-16s, but their existing F-16s would be refurbished and some F-16 blk 30s might get upgraded. I don't recall what version of F-16s Pak has they're not called as Blk 52, but more or less equal to blk 52.

COAS sets out foreign policy redlines
"When it comes to the safety and security of every single Pakistani, the whole of Afghanistan can be damned."....Afghanistan was the only country that opposed Pakistan’s admission to the United Nations after independence, he said, adding that the problem is that "our people do not read history."

While commenting on Islamabad’s relations with New Delhi, the army chief said that "India has not reconciled with the concept of Pakistan, then how can we reconcile with it."

The COAS also addressed Pakistan’s relations with Iran, specifically mentioning the recent missile attacks by Tehran within Balochistan. "You cannot backstab us, and if you do, you will get a befitting reply," he said

The army chief briefly mentioned his recent visit to the US and stated that during the visit, he conveyed to Americans that Pakistan is a country with consequences.
