Unless the GOI says that, it's not real.
Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
A number of Twitter handles are reporting this. But will have to wait for confirmation from an official source.
On the heels of the awesome tunnel rescue, this will be another feather in the cap for the Modi Govt.
Valuable political capital for the 2024 elections.
Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
^^ Nah, public memory is short and GEs are a long way off. Maybe if it was Feb/Mar 24.
But it would be a serious lesson for India to keep a check on ex public servants who take foreign employment. Whether on purpose or by mistake these Navy men must be punished for what they’ve done, if proven guilty.
Iran attacked foreign embassies in Indian soil. Israel using Indians for spying. Seems like everyone knows we are thoroughly compromised.

Rakesh, would you like me to delete the "breaking news" post or let it be?
BTW I am still waiting for Mithai, from "What is it 15 years" back?

Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
Rakesh ji,
if pappu wins or even does well in TS, then the jihadis will line up behind him and vote en masse for the congis so that the congis will be able to better their position, vote share and seat wise, with entities like qatar, eyeraan, turki, EU, britshits and the US pushing for either a regime change or a much weakened Modi depending on how they read the tea leaves.
It may be wise on our part to stymie the britshit and all other trade deals until after the 2024 election results because that may quieten some of the gora toolkits
All it needs is a few freebies to buy off the majority, as seen in dilli and some other places because the dravidiyas, abrahamics in AP, and the commies have been playing this insidious game for many decades now
political capital usually fails before the slickly marketed might of the freebies.

Officers (claims Sanjay Dixit) are living in groups (they were in solitary confinement) and have access to high-class facilities for exercise, sports, etc, and have cells to contact families in India.
Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
^^ The emotional response to Indians stuck in all parts of the globe sucks up all the time and attention of our already stretched thin MEA. It truly is the reflection of our decades of labor export model coming back to bite us. Every corner of the world has Indians stuck in lakhs or millions who do not heed warnings and eventually need rescue missions. This is an area of extreme vulnerability for India especially against tyrannical regimes.

^^^^^
We - the globe - are going through a change of guards - a new world order. It is bound to produce immense hardships for the Indian diaspora. It is unavoidable. Fully expect it to get 10x worse.
Having said that the Qatari situation is trending, rapidly, in the right direction. I would expect these sailors to be back home by the end of this year.

Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
Very unwise / unfortunate choice of language by TJD (The Jaipur Dialogues).
We are all happy about the latest developments, but this kind of arrogant, triumphalist language thundering out on the internet for the whole world to see is really foolish.
"Qatar crumbles under Modi threat" ??!!
" मोदी के UAE दौरे के बाद क़तर भारत के पैर पड़ा "
What the hell, does no one think about the adverse consequences to India's future diplomatic negotiations if a successful outcome results in insults like this?
Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
Roop ji, why are you gibing so much bhaav to Jaipur dialogues? I watch him for some LOLs and entertainment. Onlee.
Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
Why can't they atleast keep quiet until the men return? Sabotage attempt?
Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
You have a point in that India's foreign service needs to grow by more than one order !.. [ also India's power projection capabilities] .. the art of speaking softly but carrying a huge stick is what geopolitics is all about.vimal wrote: ↑03 Dec 2023 10:23 ^^ The emotional response to Indians stuck in all parts of the globe sucks up all the time and attention of our already stretched thin MEA. I read on this forum that India spends less than Singapore on its MEA. Singapore is a city state.drnayar wrote: ↑22 Dec 2023 23:25You have a point in that India's foreign service needs to grow by more than one order !.. Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
It is possible that qatar, for some reason, is deeply upset with India and their head boy is vengeful. One thinks, perhaps, that they wanted to buy/muscle in on some strategic Indian asset for "investment" purposes. The saudis had a similar intent but they were fended off as Modi preferred russia to the saudis. The saudis however see the mid to long term potential of India and are not willing to piss off the ginormous BJP/Modi for a mere tactical benefit. They are playing the long game and going forward, they see more quality investment opportunities in India.
qatar is isolated and virtually friendless. They have terrorist antecedents and the perverted penchant to stoke regional fires. They also need opportunities for the deployment of their sovereign funds and expect obsequiously significant leverage in return....The more money they accumulate, the greater is the possibility of some madman undertaking a regime change initiative in their very backyard. Very few erstwhile rulers survive the energetic festivities of a classic desert rooted abrahamic regime change party, be it in the arabian deserts or even the vast grassy plains of africa

Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
Thank You JTull for posting this news. Greatly appreciated.
Let this serve as a humbling moment of pause to the poster who wanted the Govt of India to teach the Al Thani family a lesson. Attacking Qatar via sinking a few of their LNG shipments would have only escalated the issue. Shoot first, ask questions later is never a wise strategy. Please stick with your theories of why CATOBAR is superior over STOBAR and how F-16 is better than Rafale. At least that was some comedy we could all enjoy.
Kudos to the Govt of India who followed the wise strategy of diplomatic negotiations and bringing home the veterans. Another feather in the cap for the Modi Govt and that too just prior to the 2024 elections. #ModiHaiToMumkinHai

Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
Yes, to be specific - most of the POWs were from Punjab and Capt. Amarinder Singh, an ex army officer was CM of the state with a friendly govt
at the Centre. He probably did not even raise the matter because it was not important for the Gandhis. We saw what happened when he tried to be independent of them.
Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
Release of eight Indian Nationals detained in Qatar: The released personnel include Commander Purnendu Tiwari, Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Captain Virendra Kumar Verma, Captain Saurabh Basisht, Commander Amit Nagpal, Commander Sugandhar Pakala, Commander Sanjeev Gupta and Sailor Rajesh. The veterans thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the government's intervention in the matter.

Am now expecting & waiting for Diggy, Mani or some bootlicker to blabber off that 'the timing of their release was done intentionally close to the elections"
That will give the likes of Anand Ranganathan or Shezad Poonawaala an opportunity to talk about the non-returned indian POWs. Make the current generation (and remind the earlier gen) aware of it.
Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
Take a look at the YT of returned Navy personnel freed from Qatar.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_ayFSDt2Rs
the seven former Navy officers raised chants of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' after arriving at the Delhi airport in the early hours of Feb 12. One of the Navy veterans who returned from Qatar said, "We waited almost for 18 months to be back in India. We are extremely grateful to the PM. It wouldn't have been possible without his intervention and his equation with Qatar. We are grateful to the Government of India from the bottom of our hearts for every effort that has been made and this day won't have been possible without those efforts."
The eight Indian nationals were imprisoned in Qatar since October 2022 and were accused of allegedly spying on a submarine programme. The retired naval personnel were sentenced to death by a Qatar court on charges that have not yet been made public officially.

Great news. All thanks to the Government of India and the Prime Minister of India.
Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
I waited 10mins after the news broke but only the IAF thread was active on BRF. Glad to be able to share such wonderful news.
I'd like to add to what you said about attacking LNG shipments from Qatar. India will be a responsible power and there is nothing to be gained from behaving like a pirate. Similarly, if anyone has any doubt, Canada will also find out the consequences of openly calling out India. Under this dispensation, there will always be a response, but at a time and place of our choosing. Many times it is not about the optics but about preventing harm to our own long term interests.
Re: India-Qatar Fallout: News & Discussion
Bingo! Well said. The fact that this has to be explicitly stated on BRF is surprising. Attack Qatar's LNG shipments - the sheer stupidity of the idea, especially when India just signed this...JTull wrote: ↑12 Feb 2024 17:28 I'd like to add to what you said about attacking LNG shipments from Qatar.
