The engine of the first craft has different colors of the Il-76 and in the second one is the first engine missing?

Il-76/78 make excellent test craft for DRDO - we should transfer one now and one more later. They don't need to fly often, perfect for R&D

It would be wonderful if IAF inducted 20 odd heavily commercial aircraft like 777 or 747 in transport roles. IAF pilots would love it as well, as they would be type trained to fly commercial when they retire, and it would be cheaper and leave the C17 hours for all military equipment only.

The IAF should seriously consider the A330 MRTT - will free up the C17's from "troop transport' duties, increase our refuellers. The fuel consumption is better, engines can also be serviced at the MRO's in case required, freeing up the maintenance pool. Plus in a pinch, we will have additional engines available from the commercial fleets. (of course no nationalised airline, but I am sure in wartime that will take a backseat).

This exact reason will be used by MOD Babus to shoot down the proposal.

IMHO, if IAF should purchase any freighter, they should not fixate themselves on this juggad workarounds and procure a proper versatile military freighter like C-390. It is the purchase of Il-78 that has hobbled IAF efforts to get a proper refueling aircraft. Rather than fixating on A-330 and kc-46 which are only needed for overseas exercises, we need practical solutions based on C-295 or C-390. This would preserve C-17 airframe life and could be deployed immediately when needed.

I wonder why IAF did not invite Kawasaki C-2 to participate in the competition since it weighs less and can carry for longer distances than A-400.

https://thewire.in/security/iaf-lands-s ... ue-mission
The narrow and undeveloped 3,600 feet advanced landing ground had earlier been declared ‘unsuitable’ by the IAF for C-130J-30 operations. But despite that, the IAF executed a perilous mission to deliver crucial equipment for rescuing trapped workers in Uttarakhand's mountain tunnel.
Looks like the IAF is really squeezing the Hercules' very hard. Wouldn't be surprised if there's follow on order soon. If HAL doesn't step up soon with the MTA, we'll be forever dependent on imports in this category.

This should theoretically take care of the An-32 replacement program as well.

Opportunity lost with Brazilian Embraer C-390 Millennium.

India got basically stuck with Russian JV that never materialized. India still had the opportunity to join Embraer as a JV partner but did not have to foresight to do so even though the specifications matched exactly more or less.

This is like 20 years later

Imagine if the HAL/Embraer had occurred … the first C-390 would be rolling out of HAL production facilities since 2020. Alas … one can only dream :((
