PAMA’s Khan says import of used vehicles has increased by staggering 641 % this year
According to import data, the influx of used vehicles has soared to 25,098 units, marking a staggering 641% increase during the first eight months of the current fiscal year compared to around 3,386 units imported in the same period last year.
Murtaza Mandviwala, a leading auto expert, dealer, and author of ‘Steering The Pakistani Wheel’, suggested reducing import duties on auto parts, opening trade with India to access cheaper components, and stopping the misuse of used car imports to address the growing volume in Pakistan.

Each day, more and more people are finding themselves in economic blackholes, thanks to imprudent government policies, and each day more and more people are openly or covertly begging before anyone who can give them a few rupees.
This trend is fast gaining an international dimension, as evident from a news report wherein the Overseas Ministry Secretary informed the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis, that a growing number of beggars from Pakistan were moving abroad, spurring human trafficking. More disturbing is the fact that 90 percent of beggars arrested in foreign countries were of Pakistani origin. They have been known to exploit pilgrim-visas to travel to Saudi Arabia, Iran and Iraq. A good number of pickpockets who were apprehended at holy sites were also Pakistanis. Japan, in dire need of skilled labor, is also emerging as a country of destination for these beggars. It is not long that just as we look with disdain at paupers in the streets, the international community would also be eyeing us with the same contempt.
The tender highlights that PIA holds rights for 97 international routes, including slots at some of the attractive destinations. It also cites figures showing Pakistan’s “under-served” aviation market is set to have an annual compound growth rate of 5.5% over the coming five years.

^ Thanks for the summary Dr.Nayar'ji. So the entire Bakistani airline industry is not even worth $500 million. At 5.5% CAGR, the investment needs to be discounted by at least 20%.
In effect currently there is no point for any investor to look at Bakistani airline, unless they take over the assets of 8 Boeing 777s, 13 Airbus A320s and lease them out till their EOL. And lease all the routes to the highest bidder. Generally it will be only 3 routes, Isloo/Karachi/Lawhore to UAE. And UAE to Isloo. And stop over flights for refueling from over flights at Karachi. Rest of the assets will either be leased or sold off. Why have a airport at Lawhore?
Put it this way, in a decade, Bakistan will not have an airline industry to speak off.
PIA just need a few cargo planes which they can easily lease from some old freighters … hope IMF puts those conditions in, that will also meet some Green targets !

In the 1st half of 2023, PIA made an even bigger loss - this after people travelled a lot more in the post Covid environment.
Passenger car sales plummeted to 54,089 units, marking a significant 36.9% decline during the initial nine months of fiscal year 2024 (July to March). This downturn can be attributed to various factors, including soaring inflation, diminished purchasing power, high interest rates, expensive auto financing, and rising car prices, as per data provided by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA).
Additionally, PAMA reported significant declines in truck and bus sales by 45.2% and 39% respectively. Sales of Jeeps and pick-ups also saw a decline of 40.3%, while two and three-wheeler sales (motorbikes and rickshaws) decreased by 9.9%.

The Canal system was built by Hard working Hindus and Sikhs, but the British gave this.most fertile land in the subcontinent to the loyal Pakjabis.

Canal system was engineered by none other than Sir Gangaram (same person who established many hospitals, orphanages, schools, etc) under the IAS officer Sir James Lyall (who established the city of Lyallpur now called Faisalabad).

As we pass through an era of unprecedented change and complexity, it is imperative that we refresh our framework for national development to create a robust platform and to place Pakistan in the league of Upper Middle Income countries by 2025. However, our ultimate destination is to see Pakistan among the top ten economies of the world by 2047 – the centennial year of our independence.
My comment: vision is easy, creating a realistic plan and executing the plan is hard.
All this is to get some dollar investment from gullible and brotherly countries only to scoot - now that free dollars are being withheld by IMF. Bhikharis would have paid the usual think tanks for making their case as well.
