It was rejected by the army a long time ago. This particular system will not go anywhere.

I am more concerned about the dog's breakfast Indian army is determined to make of the Zoravar procurement. The 59 Zoravar are confirmed, but for the rest of the nos. They will have a bloody global tender.

Now that we know that the Strykers

1) Don't have amphibious capability (the WhAP does)
2) Are vulnerable to drones

The Army will promptly order Strykers. Then ask DRDO to take all of the tech developed for WhAP, apply it to Strykers and make them overcome their limitations

Order a token 10 WhAPs so that they can claim "We support Atmanirbhar"

Worked with T-90 and Arjun - why not here?

Yes, a significant upgrade!

Currently, the ATGM/machine gun operator has to expose his head & torso to operate it. Only the 30mm cannon is remotely operated. Hope they come up with a version where the machine gun & the ATGM are also remotely operated

Has the IA shown interest in mix and match projects?

https://x.com/sriramthg/status/1838913077523169628 ---> After telling DRDO and the private sector to develop a 8-wheeler transport vehicle and indenting only 200, turning around to indent 500 Strykers is a national betrayal. There's no other way to put it. Asking for a 600HP engine (& being ready to pay for it) to be put into it to match the WhAP is just up there with standing on one leg to get the ATHOS instead of buying the Atags.
National security isn't what gun you have. It is about spending finite money for the best results, not shopping like a kid in ToysRUs with dad's credit card.

"We should have the best weapons." No! That's how children think. Best weapons are the ones that let you fight your battles. A war of attrition with China will not be possible if you import systems wholesale. Why is this so hard to understand? Our own post-independence war history is replete with instances of winning with supposedly inferior platforms. Make your own, keep the money within the country, give people business & give them feedback & let them grow & create better products. Do the Russians and Chinese and Americans go out to import?

Why we seem hell bent on importing Stryker & Javelin is beyond any normal understanding. This isn't geopolitical jizya either. This is just straight up hamstringing your own capability. L&T and TASL would kill to come up with an unnamed turret if the army wants one with a 500 unit order. They're doing it for a measley light tank order. Live today to lose tomorrow?

^^^^ After reading the above post, now read the below. And to be fair, there have been great strides (click link below), but except in defence. The Govt has utterly failed on Make in India for defence. Piecemeal ordering to stymie the development of local maal and ordering larger quantity of phoren maal serves what purpose exactly?

https://x.com/narendramodi/status/1838816243928961249 ---> Today, we mark #10YearsOfMakeInIndia. I compliment all those who are tirelessly working to make this movement a success over the last decade. โ€˜Make in Indiaโ€™ illustrates the collective resolve of 140 crore Indians to make our nation a powerhouse of manufacturing and innovation. Itโ€™s noteworthy how exports have risen in various sectors, capacities have been built, and thus, the economy has been strengthened. The Government of India is committed to encouraging โ€˜Make in Indiaโ€™ through all possible ways. Indiaโ€™s strides in reforms will also continue. Together, we will build an Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat! @makeinindia

At least some good is coming from the fracas. Overall, not bad. It just gives us a tool to beat the Canadians with. In the relations of nations, there should always be some friction. Good bargaining points.

P.S. @VonKabra does JLT, MADSAM and FRAX mean anything special to you?

SP's Land Forces > current issue 3, 2024

The Future of MBTs

Battlefield of tomorrow will be transformed by the rise of the Man-Machine Alliance as Artificial Intelligence enhances the capabilities of MBT crews by improving situational awareness, automating routine tasks, and facilitating faster decision-making

AVNL โ€” Powering Battlefield Vehicles Through Indigenisation

Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) is planning to achieve 100 per cent indigenisation progressively by December 2025 to eliminate dependency on foreign sources for defence equipment

Combat Transportation & Fire Power

The Indian Army plans to augment its armoured mobility through a two-pronged approach, by inducting Stryker Infantry Combat Vehicles (ICVs) co-developed with the US under โ€˜Make in Indiaโ€™, and by using indigenously designed and developed ICVs by the DRDO in collaboration with indigenous private industry

Light Tank Zorawar: A Grandeur Effort on Indigenous MilTech Collaboration; Trials to Prove

The unfolding of Light Tank Zorawar is certainly a milestone for indigenous military technology collaboration, especially with a domestic private entity (L&T) backed up by DRDO. The light tank now in the final stage, will prove some of the complex demonstration and firepower at high altitude areas. Along with this, it must also attempt to surpass the Chinese light tank, ZTQ-15 in its objective, showing technical prowess.

If you look at it in a way it dates back to medieval times when we had chhatri to cover the tops of the howdah seats on elephants (the original main battle tanks)... protection from the sun and rain.

And maybe bird droppings..

So IA young officers do the hard work of creating requirements, doing the hard work only for making a ready made spec for our adversary to be aware of. This is knowledge theft at so many levels without benefiting us since we donโ€™t order enough and settle for substandard. Hitch yourself to a fat gori when a svelte desi is available! Definitely sounds like an older generation thinking. :((
