Understanding the US - Again
Re: Understanding the US - Again
I think this is appropriate thread. Prior to Putin & Trump meet, Dmitry Peskov chats about the impending meeting to reportor on plane.
Peskov revealed rare Russian praise for Trump’s “unconventional” approach to resolving the Ukraine conflict and confirmed key U.S. initiatives that set the meeting in motion. He also shed light on tense logistics, and a planned one-on-one conversation between the two leaders before a full delegation meeting.

This is a revealing YT by PGurus. It talks about Russian Oil imports and Gas imports worldwide. It turns out good ole China is #1 in most things and Turkey seems to buy a lot. But India was singled out by Deadnald Trumpf. Pathetic nonsense. Japan and EU imported gas, apparently gas is not under sanctions. Turkey a Nato member was not sanctioned for buying Russian oil. US could not add sanctions on China due to Russia oil/gas buying.
The only possible reason for the US wrath (and it is instigated by US deep state by persistently talking to DJT, make no mistake) is Operation Sindoor. This has the Deep State minions pissed to no end, how can India hammer their Munna & call of the Nuke bluff besides blindsiding China crappy maal at the same time. Deep State minions are heavily invested in China and hence the leniency for China, postponement, etc. And turkey is scott free since it is Nato brand. Hypocrisy at its worst. Logic out the window and of course a egomaniac like DJT. The US imports $3B of uranium from russia.
The US is the bully of the world pure and simple, no reason or fairness will work. And now they fund terroristan munna Pak. Let us see if Russia Ukraine war is settled. Then things will cool down a bit.

I think this thread is appropriate for the US Russia meeting. A settlement on this means the trade stuff will get sorted out for India.
US President Donald Trump hosts Russian President Vladimir Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska. The high-stakes summit focuses on the Russia-Ukraine war, nuclear security, and global diplomacy. World leaders await key announcements and potential breakthroughs.

America has always been divided. We need to start here. This fundamental historical reality gets obscured by the fact that throughout its existence, the United States has conceived of itself as a democracy. And while that isn’t necessarily wrong, depending on the definition of “democracy,” it certainly obscures more than it illuminates about the reality of American life. It suggests a continuity of a democratic regime based on the American Constitution – when in fact the term has applied to a variety of social and political orders. Under the label “democracy,” these regimes differed widely in terms of who was actually enabled to participate in the political process as equals – and even more so with regards to whether or not they extended the democratic promise to other spheres of life beyond politics: to the workplace, the family, the public square. They often existed side by side for long stretches of the nation’s history, as manifestations of competing, even incompatible ideological visions.
A profound – and oftentimes violent – division over the very nature of what “America” is supposed to be has been the historical norm. Unfortunately, much of the mainstream political discourse is enchanted with a very different narrative that starts from the assertion of consensus and cohesion as the standard, treating conflict and strife as aberrations.

States Where IMGs Can Practice Without US Residency (2025)
USMLE News (11 min read)
Last updated: January 13, 2025 10:43 pm
ContentsThe path to practicing medicine in the United States can be daunting for International Medical Graduates. Between passing licensing exams and contending with an often lengthy residency process, many qualified doctors are unable to contribute their skills to the U.S. healthcare system. Yet, with a growing physician shortage, some states are creating alternative pathways that allow International medical graduates to practice without undergoing a full U.S. residency again.

Understanding the IMG Landscape in the US
An International Medical Graduate is defined as a physician who completed their medical education outside the United States or Canada. While International medical graduates bring a wealth of expertise and global perspectives, practicing in the U.S. traditionally requires:
Passing the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) (Steps 1, 2, and sometimes 3).
Completing a U.S.-based residency program.
For many International medical graduates, the bottleneck comes with residency. Competition is fierce, and the process often stretches over several years. While these rigorous standards aim to ensure high-quality healthcare, they can limit the ability of experienced international doctors to fill critical gaps in the U.S. system—particularly in underserved areas.
To counteract this, an increasing number of states are making it possible for highly skilled International medical graduates to practice medicine under certain conditions without repeating residency.
What Does It Mean to Practice Without US Residency?
US residency is a structured training program International medical graduates are typically required to complete to secure medical licensure in the United States. However, some states acknowledge that experienced IMGs—already licensed or trained in their home countries—bring valuable skills to address doctor shortages.
Licensing without US residency doesn’t mean bypassing all formalities. Instead, certain states provide alternative pathways to licensure. These may depend on factors such as your previous training, years of experience, or certification in a particular specialty.

Cartels, Tariffs and Fentanyl, the US-Mexico Border Showdown Investigated | Foreign Correspondent
In a town on the Mexico border, a display of military might is on show. Ten thousand Mexican troops have been deployed to stop the production and export of the deadly drug fentanyl. On the US side, state of the art American armoured vehicles and drones patrol the border wall as part of President Trump’s promised crackdown on drug and people smuggling. Tensions are high in an area controlled by the notorious Sinaloa cartel which is under attack from both sides.
On Foreign Correspondent reporter Natashya Gutierrez goes on patrol to see if the crackdown is working. With inside access to the Mexican police Natashya sees first-hand the methods being used to hunt down the criminals, including a rare look at the maze of tunnels used to smuggle drugs across the border. Under the threat of crippling US tariffs Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum is acting forcefully but she’s also under attack for failing to combat the growing fentanyl crisis in her own country.

Indians have zero leverage and little understanding of PR.
They keep taking hits on H1B, when the real driver of the immigrant rush to the US is the asylum system built by American policymakers to attract secessionists and troublemakers.
It has no country caps and gives higher status to anyone who walks in - even if they’re criminals. It’s designed to absorb as many as possible in the shortest time.
H1B isn’t even a fraction of that and yet no one calls it out. Indian CEOs take flak staying defensive about H1B when they have nothing to apologize for.

From The Bulwark, Andrew Egger:
Here’s something Trump has grasped much more quickly than the rest of us: After a decade of feeding at the slop trough of our online political discourse, a critical mass of Americans are in such an advanced state of epistemic collapse that they have essentially given up on the idea that broad facts about the public—things like crime rates that can’t be felt or seen but can only be grasped as data—are knowable at all. The graphs, the numbers, the charts simply don’t matter. These voters either won’t ever see them in the first place, or, if they do, they’ll assume prima facie that the numbers are cooked.
Many of these Americans don’t even trust their own experience—at least not first and foremost. The vast majority of people who care about violent crime as an issue haven’t suffered violent crime, and they’re not poring over the statistics. How do they get their sense of what’s what out there? Like everyone else does: by scrolling their apps and soaking in the algorithm.
To win those people, Trump and his retinue realize, you need to win the algorithm. It’s not merely that the old methods of political persuasion don’t work. For all intents and purposes, the old methods don’t even register. They might as well not be happening at all. If a piece of political content, whether it be reasonable argument or pure uncut horseshit propaganda, doesn’t exceed a certain threshold of emotional stimulation, it essentially doesn’t exist.

Yes. It is rationalization at this stage. The calculation was (and still is?) that that is another pressure point of Russia. As per US and western media, Russian economy is in the dumps. We don't know the truth of that. Russians surely are not protesting. RT is banned in the US. Europe has seen a surge in immigration, leading to a more culturally diverse and foreign-born population.
Public Opinion:
.
A significant number of Europeans are not convinced that greater diversity is a positive development, with some even believing it makes their country a worse place to live, according to a Pew Research Center survey.
Factors Influencing Views:
.
Some European countries have seen a rise in nationalism and concerns about cultural identity, which may contribute to less positive views on diversity.
United States:
Diversity Trends:

The US has also experienced significant immigration, leading to a more diverse population.
Public Opinion:
.
Americans generally express a more positive view on diversity, with many believing it enhances their country's quality of life.
Factors Influencing Views:
.
The US has a long history of immigration and a cultural narrative that embraces multiculturalism, which may contribute to the more positive outlook on diversity.
Key Differences:
Overall Sentiment:
.
The overall sentiment towards diversity is more positive in the US than in many European countries.
National Identity:
