Cool with lots of pics
The BR army site may need to be revamped after this.

Good sleuth work. In any case this should also be listed as one more website in abhijit's list.

Excellent site!

Just in a few minutes I have found out some interesting facts. For eg, there is a locally made 50 cal spotting rifle for the M46s. Could this be modified to a 50cal sniper rifle? And also, the INSAS sub-machine gun is new to me as well. About time to put the Sterlings away.

And finally some good pics of the Pinaka!
[This message has been edited by Div (edited 17-06-2001).]

Div and Darshan guys you made my day. This is the first picture of INSAS carbine I have come across. I also read the index and used the search function for specifically searching for the INSAS carbine on the said site but came up a cropper. How did you people manage to locate the page?
Incidentally there was also reference in BR some time back about DRDO experimenting with two triggers and having problems. I wonder and hope that this is a production model.
Some of the problems experienced in developing a carbine can be that Indian Standard ammo is pretty powerful which gave problems of high recoil, flash and heating etc with the carbine when the barrel length is reduced.
Now developing a two-trigger system will bring in lot of interesting issues. It would be the first bull pup design of India. Does any other country use this system? This system will use the benefits of both the conventional and the bull pup design.
It would be easier to shoot around corners, in cramped positions, single-handed and with shoulder rest folded.
(I suppose the forward trigger will not be used when firing with butt extended and only the forward grip will be held with the free hand to balance the weapon.)
There seems to no muzzle break and I wonder how the high pressure gases are bled off.
Incidentally DRDO-OFB has also introduced a full automatic version of INSAS assault rifle and coupled with this carbine it means all the initially proposed systems of INSAS are now ready.
Now waiting for bull pup version of assault rifle. (Grin)
The four F-16s, SR-71 and the MLRS do not belong on a GoI website dedicated to profiling the work of indian organizations.
I think defstand needs to change the gif on its first page.
everything else looks nice.
regards
s./

I think the second trigger is for an integral grenade launcher.

1. The site is very slow.
2. There are simple HTML errors in the site; for example, the link to http : // sgm_pdc / (spaces added to prevent this software from getting confused). This leads me to wonder how good the security of this site is. We all know that the few people who know anything about computers in TSP (all 3 of them) do nothing but try to crack Indian official sites. With this new IIS bug that came out, I wonder how many Indian sites will get cracked?

the double trigger thingy seems to be an attempt at a 'bullpup' design. It is nothing todo with a grenade launcher. A grenade launcher needs a different type of ammo. It seems the second trigger position will be useful in folded butt mode.

For a proper bull pup the gun does not seem to have shoulder rest attachment to the receiver.
