Jammu, Mar 05: Chief of Army staff Gen N C Vij called on Jammu and Kashmir Governor G C Saxena here this evening and discussed the overall security scenario in the state. During an hour-long meeting at Raj Bhawan, they exchanged views on the prevailing situation and measures taken to keep the situation under control, an official release said. Mesures to further improve the situation were also discussed, it added. Gen Vij is currently on a three-day visit to the state to oversee anti-infiltration measures being put in place along the Line of Control.

Major General Mathew takes over as GOC Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 17: Major General Thomas Mathew, who headed an infantry division of the strike corps during last year's 'Operation Parakram' along Indo-Pak border, today took over as the General Officer Commanding of Delhi area. An alumni of the National Defence College, Major General Mathew had taken part in the Bangladesh operations and counter-insurgency actions in Mizoram and Jammu & Kashmir. A graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and College of Defence Management, Major General Mathew has commanded a mountain brigade in the eastern sector and was also India's Military Attache in France. He has also held various staff and instructional appointments.
