Simbly posting..

This is one of my favorite videos - I uploaded it myself one year ago and it hardly gets any hits. Some lovely Maratha Light Infantry regt end-of-training scenes - families of cadets - showing the real Indian - where our soldiers come from.

I like the last bit as well..

If anyone here remembers the old Discovery Channel series, "Extreme Machines", I've uploaded the episode on Main Battle Tanks on youtube.

Here are the links (5 parts). Its totally 47 minutes long. Got an overwhelming Abrams focus, with a smattering of Chally 1. Still worth a watch, in my opinion.

Part 1- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAeNXiY1lPo
Part 2- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrUDYMz_UiQ
Part 3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEuvzmkwLE0
Part 4 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiZVj4apmQ0

IAF aircraft attacking Tezgaon
was that an IAF Su-7 being shot down in the first clip?

do we have any info on who piloted that plane and what happened to him?
In my recent trip to Delhi, I have had the privilege of interviewing the very same pilot you see ejecting (for our forthcoming book on the 71 air war) - In his own words, every day he spends , he considers it a bonus. When you read his full story, you will agree with him wholeheartedly.

(on a side note, his wife and daughter got to see the video for the first time and to say they were fascinated by it is an understatement)

Jagan the first two jets seen in the cllp are not Sukhois but I am unable to say if they are Hunters or Canberras - they flash past very low and very fast and bombs land smack on the runway.

Shiv, those are definitely Hunters. Canberras were too vunerable to carry out daylight attacks on the airfield.

Doc we see too few clips of our regimental training centers. A casual observer could be be forgiven for thinking that all the military training that happens in India is confined to the officers' academies. And where did you get that footage of live ammo training?

I think you've missed the point of it -- its very unusual footage to see victim's pov in a hostile shootdown. That too with a mig-29 dramatically maneuvering into place behind you.

About the landing part though -- he better have some good rollerblades...

Anyway, here's more on that story, including a longer vid:

Wow, I can see this taking off as an extreme thrill sport!
They should replace the 2 inner engines with a single larger one on the topside of the wing, above his back. This would provide greater thrust at higher efficiency. Meanwhile the 2 remaining smaller engines could mainly be used for steering, and could perhaps be kept slightly farther apart for added safety.

I think it might be nice to have some kind of fly-by-wire stability control on this. Perhaps it could then be able to make controlled powered landings and takeoffs, like those experimental jetpacks from the 1960s.

Mahroof Raza is himself ex-SF isn't it before he left the Army for the life of a scholar? He's been putting on a lot of weight since he left the forces. Mahroof is one of those rare scholars who is witty, and at ease before the camera. Great producer!

Beautiful footage and impressive voiceover in a US Marines recruiting commercial. I want to watch this baby in HD on a L A R G E screen.
