Thanks for the pic. Any idea how many Helis the BSF currently has in its inventory? Do they use the HAL Dhruv?

they supposedly have about 4-6. There was a story on Mailtoday on how these ac are underutilised and have been leased out to the IAF and Army to keep them busy. But in that story the choppers had been painted in std IAF gray.

Aditya, can you give the link to the actual photo page on flickr? When was this photo taken?

which version do the NSG people use, PSG or MSG ? it should be the MSG by common sense but I have read press reports claiming PSG. could be DDM, of course.

The one in pic seems to be IMI Galatz , for I dont think PSG/MSG have any wooden furniture (to me after zooming in the stock under the barrel looks wooden ) .

And the pistol grip rule out the possibility of Mauser SP66 , or Dragunov.

And Galatz it is , zoom in the pic and notice how the scope has been mounted and compare that to one below.

Both. the PSG-1 is a dedicated sniper rifle. The MSG-90 is a reworked G-3 for Dedicated Marksmen Duties. The PSG-1 was designed for Urban Sniper Duties. The MSG-90 is more rugged and is for Military duties. The NSG has both in their inventory. I have been to one of their raising day celebrations and both were on display.

:D Indeed!! We dont mix up our food and try to call the resultant glop as "casseroles" (the dish, not the utentsil).

And do not forget to observe the boiled water in the soft-drink bottle. Totally green approach of reusing a perfectly good plastic bottle. A far cry from the bottled mineral water mania and the environmental pollution wreaked by the US forces wherever they go. These are small points that need to be stressed to any one who sneezes down upon "non-standard (aka non-gora) militia look" etc.

They are not NSG commandos .. they r from SPG ....
They are only trained to protect .. killing terrorists is not their priority ...
PS 90 from FN which is a 5.7 mm system, was selected bcz of its ammunition letality .. please note that kinetic enegry of its round is less than MP 5 round ...

In every pic of two or more armymen, none of them seem to have the same camouflage pattern!!!!
The uniform scheme of our IA guys in J&K seems to be in disarray with all and sundry uniform camouflage schemes floating around....No wonder, the terrorists find it so easy to mingle into secure zones with fake uniforms since there seem to be so many variants that even the security personnel will be confused... :-?

An Indian army soldier takes position during a gun battle between militants and security forces in Warpora, 60 km (25 miles) north of Srinagar, July 16, 2008. A policeman and two separatist militants were killed in a 20-hour gun battle in Indian Kashmir, police said. Another 15 security personnel were wounded in the firefight when soldiers stormed a militant hideout late on Tuesday near Sopore town, north of Srinagar, Kashmir's summer capital.

What we lacked was door/wall breaking weapon like MATADOR which would make hole in the wall.

Specs:

Military operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) and counter terrorist.
Effective range: 20 to 120 meters

I got them from the following site:

Click on the images there to get the high resolution images. I believe there are four of those images there.

why he is so angry??

but like it or not China understands the value of good propaganda and power of media. All their military videos and pics are handpicked and censored.

I think even the speak-peak pics of their warships/aircrafts on shipyards/airfields are deliberately released on net (for known reasons) .

Freaking scary to see such huge number of riot gear policemen all for a simple Ganesh festival celebration...Guess the old city area is still semi-autonomous(for the non-believers at least)
I dont quite agree with you Sum. Its just not a simple festival here. I think the Hyderabad Ganesh Nimajjanotsav is next only to the Mumbai one. Its a pretty big procession that goes through the middle of the city.
