Its funny but these guys are using SA-80's with laser markers.
The laser markers are excellent they have an 80 meter range and are linked to the body armour, they even record where you have been hit and whether its a kill hit or a wound hit.
I am wondering if India has this technology (commonly available in UK-even for stuff like corporate events). Plus, how much of our equipment in these photographs are ours and how much is borrowed. To be honest, I thought I was looking at IDF not the Indian Army!

Delhi Encounter
policemen secure the area at the site of a shooting incident at Jamia Nagar in New Delhi on September 19, 2008. Indian police shot dead two pigs during a fierce gun battle in a Muslim area of New Delhi, officials said, less than a week after the capital was rocked by bombings. (AFP / ***** Images)
Plainclothes policemen prepare for an encounter with suspected militants in New Delhi September 19, 2008. Police shot dead two suspected militants in India's capital on Friday during a raid targeting suspects in last week's bombings in New Delhi that killed 23 people. (Reuters Pictures)
MY OBSERVATION: These guys must be part of the special Cell. Shouldn't they be issued wih BPJ's at least. The officer who died was shot in the abdomen. He would have been saved.
Loosing good officers like that is not acceptable.
Unconfirmed Observation: one of my friend from a small Manesar daily who likes to tracks the movement of NSG says that the NSG was supposed to carry out the assault but got stuck in traffic (again??) and hence the DP special cell had to go in. Is there any info on this

I guess these guys are unaware of 3 rules of gun safety.
Cheers....

I belive they used it in Kargil too. Not seen an open source pic though.
Wish it was MG not the LMG. An RPK would be great, a Dishka even better

But the installation looks cumbersome
I also remember seeing an MMG mounted on a Chetak side door, almost like the tripod was welded / bolted to the side of the fuselage.
Rishi - 20 round LMG is correct (its based on the Bren - but the term they use is LMG 7.62 - essentially a Bren designed for 7.62mm round and straighter magazine - i believe the brits had the design for NATO)

Thanks Jagman
Since you are granting my wishes
wish they put a Dishka and a grenade launcher out there

Ah. Have always wondered why the Bren wasn't belt fed and had a seemingly inadequate (30 round) magazine.Jagan wrote: Rishi - 20 round LMG is correct (its based on the Bren - but the term they use is LMG 7.62 - essentially a Bren designed for 7.62mm round and straighter magazine - i believe the brits had the design for NATO)

That made me spend a couple of (very productive )hours reading about the application of LMGs in Infantry squads and how all 10-12 members supported the Gun by carrying two mags each, and the gun crew was 2 chaps - the gunner and the loader (who also changed the barrel).
Seems cumbersome though to change a magazine every 30 rounds. But then the IA has adopted this for 45 years, so it must have some major benefits which aren't that obvious.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
putting rounds into belt clips can be time consuming and fiddly and difficult if someone is also shooting at you. several hundred rounds clipped together also weigh a lot, making it hard for someone to carry. belt fed rounds also i think have a higher tendency to jam if not handled correctly. also, i wonder how many rounds can be fired before the barrel is too hot and has to be allowed to cool down?Rishi wrote:Jagan wrote: Seems cumbersome though to change a magazine every 30 rounds. pre loaded mags with 20-30 rounds would be much easier to carry, manage under hostile conditions, and with some fire discipline - quite effective, rather than hose down an entire area arnie style
this may suit many of the applications the IA has for this fire support weapon

The Sub there on deployment or is it on its way back from Russia (after Upgrades). If it is on Deployment (Training) then its good to see the IN training so far from home. We also have 4 Surface Combatants in that same area for Extended deployment no?

Love the human cammo on the dude
An Indian army officer displays the Tavor-21, an Israeli-made rifle which the army said was effectively used during a week-long gun battle, in an army garrison in Shariefabad on the outskirts of Srinagar October 3, 2008. A fierce week-long gun battle between Indian troops and Muslim militants on a high altitude mountain top in Kashmir has ended, taking the death toll from the firefight, the longest in recent years, to 14, the army said on Friday.

Got these from Militaryphotos.net
anybody have any more info on this encounter
EDIT here is some more info about this. They got 14 piglets. The para guys seem to be from 10-para
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
^^^ errr Shouldnt it be 9 SF. Rarely seen 10Th SF operate in the mountains during peace time. Kashmir (COIN) is 9 SF territory usually.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Surya is right. It is 10 para in this case. Dont think any Para Cdo unit 'owns' COIN ops in Kashmir. AFAIK all units get rotated thru it.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
A brigadier speaking to reporters confirmed that 10 PARA was involved.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Hi Surya,
given that the IA itself is facing severe shortage of "suitable material", are the SF able to fulfill their staffing requirements given that the rejection rate for the SF is so high?

Human cammo?
Just an untrained observation. From the Kara in his hand it would seem he is a Sikh or at the very least a hindu from north India but his beard is groomed in a very "islamic" way which would suggest he has recently been UC or works UC when required.
Anyway folks before the mods come and wave the dreaded clean up stick we should take it do the disscuss to death thread...
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Some more pics from the encounter... I think 'human camo' is an apt description....
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
If these guys didn't have the para badge beret I would swear they are part of some TSP ranger battalion or something.rajkhalsa wrote:Some more pics from the encounter... I think 'human camo' is an apt description....
This is some of the best "disguise" I have seen. Initially they would only use Sikh soldiers with flowing beards which would still make them stand out.
I am surprised photo's of these particular guys was allowed.
Time for some Duvdevan style raids into POK
