Not entirely OT but the difference in coverage between CNN/BBC and the Indian DDM is starkling.

Granted that the DDM is Indian and therefore possibly much more attached/but still we have DDM journos hollering and shreaking out news while the anchors and reporters on CNN/BBC wouldn't have any emotional attachment but the kind of crazy shreaking thats going on appears juvenile given the seriousness of things.

Anyway, I guess thats a topic for another day. RIP victims. Hope we can strap on all of these nutcases to an Agni and send them into orbit

Another update: Marriott Hotel in Juhu has been attacked. Nariman House has been primarily inhabited by Jews for the last 2 years. BUllets flying thick and fast in all directions. No one has any clue what's happening. Western expats have taken hostage in one of the floors of Oberoi & Taj. Terros are scanning guest lists to target them particularly. Talks of ~100 such expats taken hostage.

Can we please refrain from dragging in the sadhvi, Col. Purohit, SS and MNS into this issue? Lets not politicise it.

You'll have plenty of time and opportunity to do that once the probe starts. Thats when hordes of politicians start crying hoarse about their community being targeted or being vindicated. You may take up their cause on BRF then, but not now please.

They keep a specialized anti-hijack unit for Mumbai Intl. Airport. The folks coming from Manesar are more anti-terrorist units like the ones used in Akshardham.

The other unit that has similar skill set are the MARCOS who are based out of INS Abhimanyu (who are covert ops specialists but they have the numbers, firepower, experience to provider support to the Civilian/Para Military forces who are more for law & order and are not trained for surgical anti-hostage ops).

I believe the intelligence knows this. They might have got a Railway station attack. They even did a mock exercise in Hyderabad.

They did not take precaution in a big way.

I am distressed beyond belief. I agree with what Apuar said. One feels totally helpless at the mafia which includes the compromised media (who are still calling it "so-called terrorists" on the English language media - this is totally borrowed from UK lingo pre 7/7 in which they ALWAYS refused to recognise terrorism againt India as terrorism, at least the hindi language IBN is calling it a fidayeen attack) which has taken over the country.

I can't believe that this is BRites response - ATS, secularists, mainstream media and Congress bashing ! This is a major attack on our country and all we can talk about is our own particular political hobby horse !

Get a life guys ! Terrorist bullets and grenades don't distinguish between shades of political opinion.

This is it. As long as poor dhoti wearing yindoos were killed in streets, it was all fine. But this time they have targeted the influential elite, who are creating business, jobs in the country and who give crores of donations to political parties. This will be a game changer.

IBN says pigs are looking for foreigners and 4 policemen have also died amongst many others.

Ramada, another 5* Hotel has seen some firing. Santacruz, a suburb in western side has some reports of firing too. There seems to mobile fidayeen units moving around the city and gunning down people.

Police and paramilitary are just trying to get some kind of an idea of the situation with not much success. Army has been called in.
\rant on
So finally you need to call in the military to get the situation under control and these cops want to hold the precendence in grade and pay and all. Wake up and smell the kaapi. Its too strong to handle for you \rant off.

Just in - 4 cops died in the south mumbai attacks - RIP folks. Nariman House aka Chabad House has Jewish Families - as usual, these pigs are targetting the weak. **** catch them and kill them. and then finish off their sponsors and supporters all over the planet.

CM Deshmukh just gave an interview - on his way form Kerala, spoke of getting a call from SG (See she is very concerned :| ) appealed for calm and peace. Seems Patil has outsourced his job to Deshmukh.

TV clips of the taxi blown up in a bomb attack shows constables and onlookers walking all over the blast site. So much for getting any forensic evidence from there.

Shivraj Patil is finally awake. Saying it seems there is a big conspiracy. Also that it is not correct to blame any political party.

Considering India's recent high international profile - the nuclear deal, calls for its membership in the G-8 and UNSC,the lunar mission, INS Tabar and the resultant international praise, and the setbacks faced by Pakistan - helplessness in the face of drone attacks, high voter turnout in Kashmir, Zardari's overtures to India etc, such an attack was bound to take place.

The purpose of the attack ? To hurt India's economic interests and hit tourism.

An interesting thing just happened.

HM finally came on TV. As he was rambling along, Times TV anchor just cut off the feeds saying we have heard it all many times. Arnab Goswami is a card carrying DDM but I salute him tonight

Patil speaking on IBN right now - after the usual remarks, gave some info. Nothing much of immediate consequence. NSG to be taken to the hostage site directly. Army already on the way. All big afsars are on the spot. Appeals for maintaining calm & peace. 4-5 person fidayeen teams at various places - Taj, Oberoi, Cama Hospital, etc..

ATS chief Karkare is said to be dead, an ACP is also among the 7 cops KIA.

RIP Mr. Karkare. - We will never have much clarity on the Malegoan case. But you led from the front and died a glorious death. I salute you.
