Actually its quite sickening, and unexpected, for Bloomberg to mix the terror attacks with the personal story of Mr. Bachchan. WTF, one line is about the commando ops and the death of hostages and in the same para they add the superstar crap.

Idiots.

Singaporean Hostage Killed in Mumbai Terror Attacks (Update1)
Email | Print | A A A

By Chen Shiyin

Nov. 29 (Bloomberg) -- A Singaporean woman who had been held hostage by militants in Mumbai became the first person from the city-state to die in a terrorist attack, the government said.

The body of Lo Hwei Yen was identified by her husband last night, Singapore’s foreign affairs ministry said in an e-mailed statement released late yesterday. The 28-year-old Singapore lawyer was among 24 hostages found dead at the Oberoi-Trident hotel complex, the Straits Times newspaper reported.

The death toll from the attacks on 10 sites in Mumbai reached 160, with 11 militants killed, CNN reported. The Indian government said at least 370 were injured in more than 48 hours of violence as terrorists moved through India’s financial hub, targeting a Jewish center, the Oberoi, the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower hotel, a railroad station and a restaurant.

“Terrorism is a threat that knows no boundaries,” Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in a letter to the victim’s husband that was released by e-mail today. “This is the first time a Singaporean has been a victim of a terrorist attack.”

Government officials are currently providing assistance to the victim’s family and will ensure the return of the body when permitted by Indian authorities, the foreign affairs ministry said in the statement.

“This tragic event underscores the imperative for all of us to be constantly vigilant and the need for the international community to band together to combat this threat,” S. Jayakumar, the island’s acting prime minister, said in a separate e-mailed statement yesterday.

girly-pig has confessed that they wanted to do a marriott to the Taj. And they had 15 kgs of RDX for that job. Would it really have been possible to blow up the Taj with that amt of explosives? The old Taj is made of stone, if I'm not mistaken.

did someone record the conversation between Arnab, Maroof Reza, Brigadier Qureshi (fmr advisor to Gen. Musharraf) and Nigel Inkstone (fmr British Intelligence) last night on TimesNow? That one was a keeper, methinks. Unfortunately I don't have DVR.

Qureshi in the end, actually pleaded with India.

Times Now: THey killed the captain of Kuber after he cooked for the terrorists for 4 days and took care of the course in that time in the end they discovered the Dingy boat and slit his throat... this kind of evil reminds me of the evil portrayed in the movie: No country for old men.

Regarding Rajdeep Sardesai:

He worked for Times of India in early 90's, before the advent of satellite TV. After Bombay Blasts of 1993, reports emerged of Dawood Ibrahim's complicity. Sardesai wrote an op-ed in ToI defending Dawood, claiming that he could not have staged the bombings because he cheered the Indian cricket team at Sharjah.

In other words, it is a matter of fact that Sardesai expressed pro-Dawood sentiments.Whether he still is a pro-dawood man is a matter of conjecture.

Any news on when Chai-biskoot between MMS and ISI chief is going to happen? In an interview yeasterday Ex ISI chief Gul was ridiculing sardari govt for caving into Indian pressure and promptly agreeing to send the spy chief. According to him Pukes should have sent a low level fact finding committee to see if there is any evidence worth the Chief's eyes and also that it can even be a RAW operation. Once a paki always..

NDTV is closely aligned with BBC.

Also except few peoples in Metro, most of India watches Hindi-local language and we should track them.

Lastly even Priyanka Gandhi came on TV, I missed it, what did she say?

Its very difficult to read a terrorist mind ...... may be its a planned escape or may be its just panic reaction .......I am not sure how he will run from there ( unless there is some trawler waiting from them along the sea route which may be possible )

I think he just wanted to run from there , get down at some place like Girguam Chaupati and randomly fire at people there like they did CST station .......... they came to die ........so obvious they wanted to take as much toll on human life as possible.

'Armed police would not fire back. – I wish I'd had a gun, not a camera'

Jerome Taylor talks to the photographer whose picture went around the world

Saturday, 29 November 2008

It is the photograph that has dominated the world's front pages, casting an astonishing light on the fresh-faced killers who brought terror to the heart of India's most vibrant city. Now The Independent can reveal how the astonishing picture came to be taken by a newspaper photographer who hid inside a train carriage as gunfire erupted all around him.

Sebastian D'Souza, a picture editor at the Mumbai Mirror, whose offices are just opposite the city's Chhatrapati Shivaji station, heard the gunfire erupt and ran towards the terminus. "I ran into the first carriage of one of the trains on the platform to try and get a shot but couldn't get a good angle, so I moved to the second carriage and waited for the gunmen to walk by," he said. "They were shooting from waist height and fired at anything that moved. I briefly had time to take a couple of frames using a telephoto lens. I think they saw me taking photographs but theydidn't seem to care."

The gunmen were terrifyingly professional, making sure at least one of them was able to fire their rifle while the other reloaded. By the time he managed to capture the killer on camera, Mr D'Souza had already seen two gunmen calmly stroll across the station concourse shooting both civilians and policemen, many of whom, he said, were armed but did not fire back. "I first saw the gunmen outside the station," Mr D'Souza said. "With their rucksacks and Western clothes they looked like backpackers, not terrorists, but they were very heavily armed and clearly knew how to use their rifles.

"Towards the station entrance, there are a number of bookshops and one of the bookstore owners was trying to close his shop," he recalled. "The gunmen opened fire and the shopkeeper fell down."

But what angered Mr D'Souza almost as much were the masses of armed police hiding in the area who simply refused to shoot back. "There were armed policemen hiding all around the station but none of them did anything," he said. "At one point, I ran up to them and told them to use their weapons. I said, 'Shoot them, they're sitting ducks!' but they just didn't shoot back."

As the gunmen fired at policemen taking cover across the street, Mr D'Souza realised a train was pulling into the station unaware of the horror within. "I couldn't believe it. We rushed to the platform and told everyone to head towards the back of the station. Those who were older and couldn't run, we told them to stay put."

The militants returned inside the station and headed towards a rear exit towards Chowpatty Beach. Mr D'Souza added: "I told some policemen the gunmen had moved towards the rear of the station but they refused to follow them. What is the point if having policemen with guns if they refuse to use them? I only wish I had a gun rather than a camera."

dont know if this has been posted before - yesterday, some posters alluded to a TOI journalist being possibly involved in the attack. She had gone missing in the Taj at around 11pm on Thursday. She has actually been identified as Sabina Saikia, TOI journalist who came to Mumbai to attend the wedding of Bachchi Karkaria's daughter. Bachchi is a regular columnist for TOI. Sabina is feared to be among the casualties at the Taj. My sincere condolences. And a reminder to all of us that we should not come to any premature conclusions.

Some foreigner's on BBC's coverage of Mumbai blasts:

I really hate the BBC their coverage of this is scarily pro terrorist, they constantly refer to the terrorists as militants... they are not scruffy members of the socialist workers party carrying placards on a street corner... they are terrorist murderers, get a grip BBC!!!

- alan cornwell, London, GB, 28/11/2008 0:33

Of course, our supine, cowardly, grasping BBC is calling them "militants" of an unspecified religion.
No, they are Islamic terrorists. Simple as that.

- Michael Ross, Birmingham, 27/11/2008 8:20

I was wondering why the BBC cannot bring itself to call these inhuman monsters "terrorists". ?
They use the term "gunmen". This IS NOT a wild west movie.

- Bob, Windsor England, 27/11/2008 16:25

Despite the BBC's 'downturn' nice to see we can still export the worlds finest terrorists. Well done Nu Liebour.
I hoped they all got to vote Liebour before they left the UK.

Huge crowds at the funeral processions of the brave officers. Brings tears to my eyes to see that the folks in the street still respect the officers while the netas sit in their a/c cars. Slogans of "Bharat mata ki jai" etc being raised. Arouses deep emotions for the family of these soldiers and deep deep anger.

Its time to write to the CNN about their prima donna Zain Virjee who was definitely pro terrorist. And we need to channel our power to get a voice of Indians which is not a shade of green. The shocking thing was how many talking heads for CNN were Muslim. While Hindus kids were studying to be doctors and lawyers these guys became journalists and onw the airwaves.

Terror trail runs to Britain
- Trio of Pak origin in net, UK sleuths to fly in
, The Telegraph
SAMYABRATA RAY GOSWAMI

Brown: Cautious
Mumbai, Nov. 28: Two British citizens are among the three terrorists, all of Pakistani origin, arrested so far, a police source said.

“Two British-born Pakistanis, along with another from Faridkot near Multan in Pakistan, have been arrested in connection with the Mumbai carnage. They are being interrogated. All three are injured, though not grievously,” a top Mumbai police official said.

The Pakistani national has identified himself as Abu Ismail though the British-born terrorists are referring to him as Zakirullah. He was the first to be arrested, early on Thursday morning. The others were arrested from the Taj.

Maharashtra police chief A.N. Roy did not confirm if Britons were involved, but said investigators were in touch with British authorities and were seeking intelligence inputs from them. “A team of Scotland Yard’s anti-terrorist detectives and negotiators is on its way to Mumbai to assist with information and intelligence,” Roy said.

Asked about the claim that Britons could be among the perpetrators, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: “I would not want to be drawn into early conclusions about this.”

“Obviously, when you have terrorists operating in one country, they may be getting support from another country or coming from another country, and it is very important that we strengthen the co-operation between India and Britain in dealing with these instances of terrorist attacks,” the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.

The Mumbai police source said security services in Britain were studying images of the attackers in an effort to identify them.

One of the British-born Pakistani terrorists, Ajmal Amir Kamal, has revealed that he travelled to Multan in Pakistan for training, the source added.

Ismail has told interrogators that 12 of them left in a Vietnam-bound merchant vessel from Karachi. Later, they hijacked a fishing trawler to reach Indian waters early on Wednesday morning. “By the time they reached Mumbai, it was around 7.30pm. Two of them got down near Sassoon Dock (Mumbai port), eight at the fishermen’s village in Colaba and two at Gateway of India. Later, they split into five small groups,” said the police source.

Fishermen from the Colaba village immediately informed local policemen at the nearby post at Badhwar Park that they had seen eight men land. But no action was taken.

Police say the terrorists met some local contacts before beginning their operations nearly two hours later.

Naval commandos have recovered credit cards and identity cards as well as a vast arsenal of grenades, AK-47 magazines, shells and knives from the Taj.

Police said the terrorists were carrying dry fruits, suggesting they were prepared for a long-drawn battle.

“The dry fruits and some other logistical support came from the local contacts. Nine people have been detained from various parts of the city for questioning,” the police source added.

“A large quantity of RDX and other ammunition, including guns and grenades, has been recovered from both the hotels. It appears that some of these local contacts checked into the hotels and may have helped stockpile the ammunition,” he said.

Police are also checking whether the England cricket team was one of the targets.

Some of the team members had been due to stay at the Taj on Wednesday evening before a late decision was made to switch training to Bangalore.

“I don’t know why it was switched but we could have been there. All our white Test kit is in one of the rooms at the Taj Mahal hotel: All our pads and clothes for the Test series and our blazers and caps and ties,” England skipper Michael Vaughan said from Bangalore.

The team is leaving for home tonight from Bangalore.
