Ah thanks! It was beautiful. Was lucky to be around that day and was on the road, so stopped and took it all in.

I saw the Saras in the air either yesterday or the day before, dont recall which. Very distinctive noise , quite different from the normal turbo props like ATRs . The pusher configuration does have a very distinct note. Folks who have seen/heard the Beechcraft starship would vouch for that.

what is the status with Saras ?. How is that project getting along? Any updates ?

Heads -up while its understandable that the coming Aero India will have cumbersome checks and possible ban again on cell phones - believe business visitors will also need a proper id .

Hi All,

I was lucky to be there for HAL day, a very well organised event. LCA noise was good, but not too loud ..Maybe Su30 has spoilt my hearing..
Surya Kirans were good as usual but only 6 on formations and not 9. A exclusive event for HAL employees and their family, good way to celebrate it's 68th birthday.

as per a recent article in TOI - with tighter security controls for Aero India a big hike of more than 50 % in entry fees has been proposed - tentatively around Rs 1500-1800 per day for business visitors to discourage lurkers

Hi All,

Like the previous AIs,BR is considering a presence at this year's show as well.
Are there people interested in visiting the show and work as volunteers as such?
We'll prove ground support, beer,an opportunity to interact with really cool people (including us)
In return you have to spread the BR Word and man our booth on rotation cycles.

Those who are interested can mail me at kapil at bharat-rakshak.com for more details

cheers

Hi I am Ashwin from Chennai. When I looked up on the Aero India website it shows the public will be let in only last day only for about 4 hours. Would it be possible for people like me to get tickets on the trade days. I wouldnt mind spending money to get some good vedios. Any information on this would be appreaciated

Air Show to cut 4 hours off BIA
Airport operator BIAL on Wednesday said it would stop all commercial flights for four hours while the flying displays were on — from February 7 to February 15.

During February 7-10, BIAL will halt commercial flights from 10 a.m. to noon; during February 11-15, civil aircraft will not fly during display hours 10 a.m. till noon and 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

EXTRA! EXTRA!

I am getting 25 autographed copies of Air Marshal Rajkumar's book The Tejas Story: The Light Combat Aircraft Project, India

This is being sold well below the list price of $36. It is being sold for Rs 500 as a special for Bharat-Rakshak from the Air Marshal

This book is a must buy for the following reasons

1) It is an excellent and informative read for all Jingos ( I have an autographed copy)
2) It is IMO a national duty to ensure that a superjingo like Philip Rajkumar must have his book read.

Here are two sample scanned pages

Book your copy on the Bangalore BR meet thread.

Last Aero India saw crash of an aircraft of Sarang aerobatic teams durign practice.

And this year .... .. .

IAF jet crashes, pilot killed
21 Jan 2009, 1616 hrs IST, IANS
BANGALORE: A jet aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) Surya Kiran aerobatic display team crashed at Bidar in north Karnataka Wednesday, killing
its pilot Wing Commander R.S. Dhaliwal, a defence spokesman said.

"The aircraft crashed at 8.35 a.m. shortly after it took off from the Bidar Air Force Station (about 750km from here), on a regular training sortie," IAF spokesman Wing Commander Mahesh Upasani told IANS on phone from New Delhi.

"The pilot died instantaneously when the jet crashed. It caught fire soon after it got airborne from the air base," Upasani added.

The IAF has ordered a court of inquiry to find out the exact cause of the mishap.

The sub-sonic Kiran-Mk II aircraft in the Surya Kiran fleet are also used by the air force to enable its rookie pilots transit from turboprop trainers to jets.

"There are no reports of any damage to civilian life or property," Upasani added.

Zee TV reports crash involved 2 planes, one pilot died the other pilot is seriously injured.

So looks like they were practicing for Aero India when the accident happened.

My condolences to bereaved IAF family and good luck to the surviving pilot.
