I decided to bring this into this thread instead of nukkad as I think this is an increasing internal security matter for the citizens. I don't know about others, stuff like this makes me cringe.
Bajrang Dal men thrash brother, sister in MP
Bajrang Dal activists thrashed a brother and sister in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh on Valentine's Day.
In their zeal to crack down on couples, Bajrang Dal activists swooped down on the siblings who were travelling on a scooter.
The activists, riding on bikes, mistook the two to be lovers.{reason being? } The siblings were then chased outside the Vikram University campus in the city.

The brother stopped the scooter and ran for his life, but the Bajrang Dal goons caught him and beat him.

The sister's pleas that they were brother and sister fell on deaf ears. When the police arrived, the Bajrang Dal goons abused the police.

The police managed to rescue the siblings and then the victims went home.
Too bad it does not say if they were arrested and I would like to know what punishment they get. If they get away with this insult of Bharat's constitution, shame on the society.

The whole thing was caught on video...which is why it probably hit the news...

It was a saddening thing to watch (on NDTV)... What makes these mofos think they are the interpreters of what is or is not Indic and/or Hindu? I do hope the law takes its full course and the media does not let up...

There was another incident where a policeman was dragging around a girl by her hair (broadcast today) for apparently spending time with a guy in a room - based on public complaints!!! There was no allegation of law-breaking on the couple's part (so far at least)... horrible.

Bharat's Constitution also gets insulted when mullahs bring fatwas to kill Taslima Nasreen and the govt fails to provide her safety.Society has surpassed shame and good for it.We have burdened ourselves with too much morality. Some moral policing is indeed needed but in what way, thats debatable.

Good point. Apply the law uncompromisingly on all law breakers.

But the other point is just as valid that unless the law is applied and seen to be applied justly across all communities, there's just no way legal arbitrage won't happen. The message certain fundoo sections convey is that the only way to gain attn, nay respect, from the establishment and popularity from the gallery is to threaten violence, obduracy, and riots. IOW, aggression and crime pay. Why bother going legit anymore? GoI has stood down before, why not again?

26/11 lesson: Maharashtra cops to get night vision devices
"NVD is part of high-tech equipment we are purchasing for the police force to modernise it. This will help police to aim at the target in darkness," Patil said.

"We are equipping the force with modern gadgets so that they could deal with any situation effectively and act swiftly."
This is what pisses me off ......... they are trying to compensate training with equipment.

More than 100 tribal separatists have surrendered before the authorities in Tripura after fleeing from their bases in adjoining Bangladesh, officials said here on Sunday. "The Bangladesh-trained militants, numbering 118 and led by their leader Pabanjoy Reang, surrendered before senior police and paramilitary officers late Saturday," police spokesman Nepal Das said. The militants belong to the Borok National Council of Tripura (BNCT), a sister organisation of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT).

They also deposited a large cache of arms and ammunition, including AK series rifles, three mortars and foreign made revolvers. Militants belonging to various rebel groups in the northeast have set up about 100 camps and hideouts in different parts of Bangladesh, specially Sylhet district and Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in the mainly hilly region of Bangladesh bordering India's Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya States. "We have managed to escape from our camps in CHT after Bangladesh launched anti-insurgency operations in different parts of that country," Reang told reporters.

With this, about 160 tribal guerrillas of NLFT and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), including some dreaded ultras carrying rewards of Rs 2,50,000 each and having Interpol arrest warrants, have fled from their Bangladeshi camps and surrendered to Indian security forces.

Frustrated over the long delay in finding solution to the Naga issue, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said both the Centre and the NSCN(IM) should give up their rigid stands and find a practical political formula to bring an end to the six-decade-old problem. "People are getting frustrated. Civil society, Naga Hoho, students, church and everybody want permanent peace. So, both sides should give up their respective pre-conditions and find a practical political solution," Rio said.

Rio said the rebels as well as the government were stuck in their "rigid stands" resulting in almost complete halt in the peace negotiations. "By playing hide and seek game, we cannot solve the problem," he said, adding, "But I still believe that with some give and take, we can bring permanent peace in Nagaland."

The NSCN-IM has been pressing for formation of a "Greater Nagalim" comprising all Naga-inhabited areas in the Northeast. However, this has been opposed by Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. The Centre is also believed to be not so keen to discuss the issue in greater length as it would bring adverse reactions from the three Northeastern states.

Very intersting article. Blows the myth away that sufis are some sort of reincarnated jains/buddhists/Gandhi-jis....
http://www.hindu.com/2009/02/16/stories ... 740800.htm

The Sufi with the Kalashnikov

After Varma’s death, the story goes, a spice trader named Malik bin-Dinar returned to Kondangaloor, bearing a letter from Verma which led to a local temple being converted into a mosque dedicated to the king’s memory. The Cheraman Jama Masjid, reputed to be over 1,370 years old, still stands — in the Hindu tradition, facing east.{Can the Hindus start agitating talking about historical injustices now?}
“Those who distort the meaning of jihad,” the supreme leader of the Noorisha order, Sayyid Muhammad Arifuddin Jeelani, said in a recent interview, “will certainly go to hell.”

...
For the most part, public commentary on Islamist terrorism in India has cast Sufi Islam as inherently opposed to jihadist violence. In part because the aesthetic of ascetic spiritual traditions — Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jewish and even Christian — has become fashionable among metropolitan liberals, Sufi practices have been cast as inherently hostile to the Islamist project.
...
But like other religious systems, Sufi mysticism can — witness the recent fighting in Iraq, Central Asia and Pakistan — provide legitimacy to violence. In the dying decades of the Mughal empire, the influential Sufi mystic, Shah Waliullah, called on the warlord, Ahmad Shah Abdali, to wage war against the Jats and the Marathas, arguing that it was “predestined that unbelievers should be reduced to a state of humiliation.” Sayyid Ahmad — whose failed 1831 jihad against Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s empire inspired the founding of the Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadis from which the Lashkar draws its ideological legitimacy — was also a mystic.
...
Pakistan has seen Sufi orders adopt jihadist tactics to counter their neoconservative theological rivals. In 1997, Sufi leader Allama Pir Mohammad Saeed Ahmad Mujadidi set up the Sunni Jihad Council to fight in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to the Gujranwala-based magazine Dawat-e-Tanzim ul-Islam in March 1999, SJC military commander Saeed Raza Bukhari said that the decision was taken because “certain people have used jihad to propagate their false creeds in Kashmir.”
...
Jabbar’s story demonstrates that the roots of the jihadist movement lie neither in scripture nor particular right-wing renderings of the faith. Like other jihadists, Jabbar turned to the jihad because of the lived experience of communal conflict — not a theoretical understanding of the imperatives of Islam. Even the most plural and tolerant faith-systems, his story makes clear, are unlikely to survive in the crucible of communal hatred. Secular political formations and the Indian state will have to find a language with which to meet the challenge. :-? {What can we do about such hate mongers who see no reason?}

Chargesheet silent on IM's involvement in 7/11 :-?

Mumbai: Five months ago, when the Mumbai Police arrested five alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorists and blamed them for the Ahmedabad and the Delhi serial blasts, they also claimed that these men were the backbone of a Terror module responsible for a majority of terror attacks in the country since 2005, including the 7/11 commuter train attacks in the city which killed 187 people.

But the Mumbai Police chargesheet in the case due to be filed on Tuesday will be silent on these claims, sources told The Indian Express, raising eyebrows within the force and once again focusing on the turf war between rival departments. While the chargesheet being filed by the Crime Branch, which is in charge of the IM case, will be limited to the terror e-mails sent minutes before the blasts, the Maharashtra Anti-terrorism Squad (ATS) says it cannot seek the custody of these IM men and file a supplementary chargesheet in the 7/11 case — which is under the ATS — as it has not received any “official communication” about the IM men being linked to the train blasts.

The Crime Branch had first arrested five alleged IM operatives Afzal Mutalib Usmani (32), Mohammed Sadiq Israr Sheikh (32), Mohammed Arif Sheikh (31), Mohammed Zakir Sheikh (28) and Sheikh Mohammed Ansar (31) and Mumbai Police Commissioner Hasan Gafoor and Joint Commissioner (Crime) Rakesh Maria had announced on September 24 that these men had posed as Pakistanis and planted bombs on local trains along with Indian accomplices on 7/11.

Sixteen more alleged IM operatives were arrested subsequently and are also being charged on Tuesday.

“Once the chargesheet is filed, it will be up to the ATS to seek custody of the IM members and verify their involvement in 7/11. It will depend on the ATS whether or not to file a supplementary chargesheet in the 7/11 case,” said a senior officer.

Asked for his response, acting ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi said that he had not received any formal communication from the Crime Branch on the involvement of IM operatives in the 7/11 case. “If any mention of the involvement of those arrested in the 7/11 case is made in the chargesheet, we will definitely take further action and follow up on their involvement,” Raghuvanshi told The Indian Express. If the chargesheet made no such mention, “some sort of communication and information should be given to us for us to act on it. So far, we have not been officially informed of any 7/11 link to the IM case,” he added.
The Kangress back to its dirty games. Dont be surprised if a certain Lt.Colonel's name gets linked with this blast too....

improving e-policing

Post by joshvajohn »

It is essential to improve e-policing at every state level and even at every district level.

to monitor the terror activities at every level through e-contacts
to check the money transfers
to stop cheating of people online through spams
to stop exploitation of children through *****

These all seem to be connected together with terror fundings.

LeT planned to black out India?
NEW DELHI: In times of terror comes the revelation that the Intelligence agencies had warned at least six state governments of Lashkar-e-Toiba
(LeT) strikes against power grids and hydro-electric projects across the country.

TIMES NOW has acquired an exclusive copy of a letter sent by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), which states that the LeT may strike grid stations across the country and that the outfit had recently collected information regarding the stations.

The letter is different from the routine warnings sent out by the IB, as it highlights the following:

1) The letter has been marked secret

2) It has been sent to the chief secretaries /home secretaries, DGPs and other top police officials

3) It was sent four days after the November 26, 2008 Mumbai terror attacks

4) The letter has warned states that the LeT had collected information regarding grid stations in the country and are planning attacks

Sources have told TIMES NOW that the IB has more evidence on the LeT's plan of action and their research work on our country's hydroelectric power projects.

The document also cautions the state governments to take necessary steps to thwart any such attempts. But what is causing serious concern is the fact that many states have dismissed this letter as a mere routine warning leaving these vital installations vulnerable.

PS Prashanth, Kerala state secretary, electricity employees confederation said, "After the Mumbai attacks, we know that our grid stations are also highly vulnerable. At present the security arrangements are not up to the mark. We need more security only then will we be able to safeguard our hydroelectric projects."

Kerala alone has 29 hydroelectric power projects. For instance, if Moolamattom station in the state's Idukki district is striked, 4 major districts of Kerala will submerge in water. There are many more hydroelectric projects that may cause serious destruction if attacked, and in this scenario, the low security in the grid stations is a major cause for concern.

Govt directs coast guard to start patrolling near shoreline
NEW DELHI: In a bid to prevent use of the sea route by terrorists as in case of the Mumbai strikes, the Coast Guard has been asked to patrol the
shoreline with locally hired fishing boats or trawlers.

Coastal states have also been told by the government to speed up implementation of the Coastal Security Scheme.

"The coastal states and UTs have been directed to immediately start coastal patrolling by locally hired fishing boats or trawlers, charges for which will be reimbursable by the Ministry of Home Affairs," Minister of State for Home Affairs Radhika V Selvi said here.

"The task of guarding the Indian coastline right from the shoreline (High Tide Line) has been entrusted to the Coast Guard. However, the responsibility of overall maritime security rests with the Indian Navy," she said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha yesterday.

Coastal States/UTs have also been directed to expedite the implementation of the approved Coastal Security Scheme such as early completion of construction of coastal police stations, check posts, out-posts and barracks apart from sanctioning, recruitment and training of executive and technical manpower, the minister said.

Basically, we have allowed ourselves to be held by our b@lls by the Paki based groups due to indiscriminate votebanking.

Shudder to imagine the mayhem possible if Pak gives the go-ahead to all their sleepers spread across costal Karnataka, Kerala and WB (there might be sleepers elsewhere also but the three mentioned places are swarming with them).

Nothing will happen, people will just get a bit angry and the victms will be left alone to suffer. Just like India allowed 100 000 pandits to ethnically clensed. LET and ISI know there will be no meaningful retaliation.

ULFA (pro-talk) central committee chairman Mrinal Hazarika after submitting the 18-point charter of demands through Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, told reporters here, "full autonomy will reduce the resentment towards the Indian government and will help refrain them (ULFA) from hostile activities".

"After 29 years of revolutionary experience, looking at political and economic situation, continuous threat from the neighbouring countries surrounding Assam, age-old religious and cultural ties with the Indian people, possible terrorist attacks in Assam by anti-Indian religious fundamentalist groups, we believe it (sovereignty demand) is not a reality", Hazarika quoted his memorandum to the prime minister.

Notice the bolded part. This is what the IMs have become true experts at, offer themselves as vote banks to get their things done.

Do you blame them? Should the innocents be falsely impicated and arrested in the first place and then released due to lack of evidence? The underlying cause is the old Police Act which is still that of Mughal and British vintage. They are still in collective punishment mode.

Madani is offering his support to ensure justice and not just law and order for his supporters. Thats democracy at work. I see no wrong there.

I think the sequence of events is somehow leading to India having a hawk at the helm. Could be Modi or some other hawk. A silver lining of all the squeeze b@ll actions has been to awaken the public to the horrors of an inactive anti-terror/security mechanism. As more and more cities get affected we would have more people looking out for leaders who have/will deliver on security front now that it is taken for granted that all political parties indulge in some development or the other.Security will score high on the city & mofussil voters, rural populace may take some time to react. It might not really acquire decisive proportions by LS 2009 but will for the subsequent elections. Though, middle class desi janta would not like to have anything to do with politics they would definitely react when pushed to the corner. Media on its part should also whip up the security issue as it has done post 26/11. Hopefully, the turnaround is quick. On a sidenote we should send the young brigade of politicians to Israel for a year or two and I am positive they will learn how to defend one's @rse

The political affairs committee chairman, T.M. Lotha, said representatives from various political parties, apex Naga tribal organisations, NGOs, the Church and representatives from Naga militant groups will deliberate on the “Naga conflict” to find a “way forward”.
In a secular country can a religious institution be involved in evolving a political decision? Of course they are more than churches and have been reported to be staging areas for weapons distribution in some cases...

Intelligence reports LeT after Kasab's life
About 26 policemen, who are on rotation duty to foil any attempt on Kasab’s life, have been deployed to monitor his security arrangements. CCTV cameras to be installed inside the jail, the police said.

Intelligence Bureau officials have received fresh inputs that LeT, who is planning to kill Kasab, have contracted six persons for the work. All the six shooters are being sent to Mumbai from Pakistan to accomplish the operation.

This is the second time that such reports have been cracked. Earlier, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) had intercepted a telephonic conversation suggesting underworld don Dawood Ibrahim was contacted by LeT to carry out the mission—Mission to kill Kasab.

On Friday, Kasab was produced before a magistrate where his statement was recorded in connection with the Mumbai strikes. Kasab has to face trial in 12 cases booked against him by the Mumbai police. A chargesheet will be filed against him on Feb 24.

Abandoned boats put Mumbai on alert
http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/st ... 0090084415

Sunday, February 22, 2009, (Mumbai)

The Navy, Coast Guard and Mumbai police were on high alert on Sunday after fishermen reported sighting some abandoned boats off the Mumbai coast putting the security personnel in a tizzy but they turned out to be boats belonging to an Army Expedition.
...
The spokesperson later said in the night that the two boats were part of an Army expedition and there was no cause for any concern.
...
"Although there is no confirmation as yet on unidentified vessels, we are taking no chances and have alerted police personnel," a senior police official said.

Elsewhere on the forum we have a thread dealing with GOI's inaction after Mumbai, whereas there is no thread for Godhra and its aftermath. This article would fit very nicely in such a thread. I put this here only so to indicate that Modi yet again shows us the way on how to tackle hardline islamist effectively.

He silently puts effective strategy into action and lets the results speak for themselves.

But he is unabashed about his admiration for the CM and would like Modi, already popular among the Shia muslims, to gain acceptance among the Sunnis too. {so sunnis are the problem child}
...
Stating that Modi actually does not need Muslim votes to win the elections, he said it was up to the Muslims to make friends with the chief minister. “Islam has in the past befriended even bigger fundamentalists,” he argues, adding that Muslims must appreciate the performance of the CM, if he is good. {although a case of "ulta chor kotwal ko datey" w.r.t befriending fundamentalist}
...
He said his battle with the Tabhlighis for the control of mosques across Gujarat would be won only if their foreign funding is stopped.
Last two paragraphs sums it up effectively as to what needs to be done as a bare minimum if the GOI is interested in checking terrorism in India.

But wait imam’s word is not enough, maybe GOI needs to hear it from IM, SIMI, LET, et al as to how to stop them.
