Allow me to hazard a guess. Either the Gentleman is a service officer (maybe), or (more likely) that the sailors are saluting the lady as she boards the vessel. Don't forget that the age of chivalry is not yet dead, atleast not as far as the Indian Armed Forces are concerned .gauravsurati wrote:From those pics of IN from Abu Dhabi. Chaps,
Can anyone ID the IA jeeps below? What make are they?
Are these normally operated by the IA or only SF? They had the word "Recce" written on them.
Also, note the Rod like structures they carry. Any idea what these are for?

U.S. Marine Sgt. Nicholas Bender launches a Raven surveillance drone from Marine base perimeter on March 21, 2009 near the remote village of Baqwa, Afghanistan. Marines from the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment use the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to get real time intelligence on Taliban movements. The Marines are operating in Farah Province of southwest Afghanistan and are seeing a spike in Taliban attacks against American forces with the onset of the spring "fighting season."

Similar drone was on display in AI-09 Israeli section also...

These are Rovers belonging to Signals regiment. Rod structures are extension rods for communication antenna.Rishi wrote:Chaps,

Earlier Singals Rovers were based on Jongas, now they have shifted to Jeeps.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Its either what Sid just explained or they are part of an Armoured/Mechanized Unit. They have Recce Troops mounted on Mahindra Jeeps (used to be Jongas earlier). Though I find strange that Signal Rovers carry Recce tag on them.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Love the MARCOS pic...Are those Delta Force-style hockey helmets I see on 2 MARCOS (one at helm and one at stern)??
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Or are these the one that Armoured/Mechanized Unit had invented and patented .. they were called Hunky/tuffy or something. I had seen a picture with Gen Malik in a paper
Not sure I guess we has some discussion also in BR

IIRC, they never made it beyond the design/prototype stage...Rampy wrote:Or are these the one that Armoured/Mechanized Unit had invented and patented .. they were called Hunky/tuffy or something. I had seen a picture with Gen Malik in a paper

Is it the signals corps that is in charge of BFSR? (Location is somewhere in the northern/north-central region an unspecified time ago.)Sid wrote:

An Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier aims his sling shot towards demonstrators during a protest in downtown Srinagar on April 4, 2009. Perhaps it is best to avoid public identification of scientists with the LeT deciding to hit individual scientists.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Dear Shiv,
Very true BRF being an open forum we should ristrict uploading pictures of scientists considering the threat from terrorists....by now the pic should already have been removed.......

Making a move on India's scientists and researchers isn't a red line for this nation? Threats apart, if an active programme to target such people of national importance is detected by RAW should in itself automatically trigger a set of punishing responses to pakistan.
Now pakistan it seems has given up all pretenses of using the jihadi groups as non state actors - they are openly using them as their strategic forces.

Our red lines are very dynamic. They keep shifting every time the previous one is crossed!!!

Long range BFSR were being operated by the Arty Corps locating regts, it was so till I was in the army.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
If I may add to what has been posted ^^^, IA has what are called the SATA (Surveillance & Target Acquisition) Regiments which operate the BFSR and the WLR. The portable version of BFSR is held by the Infantry Regiments and used on the LOC. Infact, few days back saw Line Of Duty on Times Now and they showed Tactical Control Room of a unit on LOC. The center was receiving inputs from such a BFSR which also has Thermal Imager, unattended ground sensore, sensors on the fencing (which I think indicate a breach) and SIGNIT. Now we know why the piglets are having to take the hard and deadly winter route to infiltrate across the LOC.

You said it dude. Remember the address of our fearless PM post Mumbai attack. Our Fearless PM proclaimed, "there will be cost....". Till this day he has not identified the culprit, what will it cost, what cost will terrorist pay. Don't forget the Pallu of Madam Gandhi, our PM can be seen behind that Pallu every time there is an innocent Indian Life lost.

Its a plane made of concrete (look carefully, no doors either). IIRC they have other mockups to train for interiors.anupmisra wrote:A plane with no windows?shyamd wrote: NEW DELHI, INDIA: Black cat commandos from India's National Security Guard (NSG) go through their paces on a mock aircraft on an Anti-Terrorist conditioning course during NSG raising day in Manesar, some 65 kms south of Delhi, 15 October 2004. Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
raja are you saying it has no doors because it is made of concrete or because you know it has none ?
surely if they want they can recreate the interiors inside a concrete a/c too, upto some extent.
p.s. there was such a concrete a/c at one of mumbai's parks, the insides were used by the locals for # 1 and 2 !
sarabpal, a concrete one has some advantages of its own, little maintenance for one.
better ability to absorb punishment if live ammo is used.

Can not they afford a scraped plane.
People buying to make hotel.
Are you privy to all of their techniques and hardware available for their training?
Maybe all their learning here is how to mount the plane, and instead of having a rusty airframe, they figured its cost effective to build a concrete one instead.
If they get a real plane,we'll be complaining that its only a boeing 737, and not an Airbus.
And when they get both, we'll be complaining there's no live crew and real passengers in the training.
And once we get those, someone will complain about no actual terrorist available to train against.
Seriously people, enjoy the beautiful pictures on this thread, and quit micro-analyzing every little detail.
Oh and that Beas picture, absolutely freaking gorgeous...
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
AFAIK that plane is only for demo (no, I have not seen that thing up close though unlikely it has interiors). That pic is from one of their old raising days. Trust me NSG are not that daft ...they do train on the real stuff (and that includes many things besides aircraft).
