If he thinks about it he is equating the acts of the jihadis with the motivations of a particular minority. IOW the minority wishes what the jihadis are doing and he will protect the minority wihses even if it creates law and order issues which in turn will blowback on the minority as a whole for acts of isolated aleinated individuals.

he and INC are the greatest threat to the minorities for they see no difference in betweenthe minorities and the acts of isolated aleinated terrorists.

And with leaders like these (who dont care how many die as long as we are not draconian), we keep whining that US isnt doing enough to protect India while our own nets fiddle and play vote-banking?

Maoists attack Nalco mine in Orissa, 2 CISF men feared dead

2 cops among 9 killed in Chhattisgarh Maoist violence

The murderous maoists are upping the ante like there's no tomorrow.
Wonder whats up? mere opportunism due to security redeployments for the polls or something deeper? :?:

Optimistic view is that the phoren powers that sponsor the maoisti have figured out that these poplls might produce an uncoimpromisingly anti-red sarkar in dilli and hence, limited window of opportunity to create damage. But somehow, that sounds a tad too optimistic even to this jingo. :(

11 killed in Maoist attack in Orissa
At least seven security personnel and four Maoist rebels were killed in a gun battle in Orissa's Koraput district, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday night when over a hundred armed rebels laid seize to the state-run National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco) bauxite mine at Panchpatmali, some 370 km from here.

They also attacked a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) camp nearby.

"Seven CISF jawans and four Maoists were killed," district police chief Deepak Kumar told IANS.

Need of the hour is to enact a wealth tax of 2% of non-agricultural land/construction over 150 sqm per family and also enact 45% inheritance tax over Rs 2 crore of wealth. Using this money, we can strength police, Military and courts and crush trouble making naxals, islamists, Pakistan, Americans, Saud, British and Chinese

45% inheritance tax????? do you want to push any and every financial resource into the Black money category???? there is no need for such barbaric measures. once inheritance didn't just fall majically from sky. whether legally or illegally it was earned by someone and passed down.

we don't need these leftist fundoo ideas. 45%...

i would suggest increasing property tax. property taxes in India are pretty low, especially for all those apartment wallahs. that is the only tax where there is definitely room for increase substantially (at least 3 times what it is now). correct me if i'm wrong on this.

Dawood linked to Bollywood piracy: US lawmaker
"It's (D-Company) now integrated into every part of the Indian filmmaking industry, from distribution to loan-sharking, and I guess a special irony here, for those of you who saw 'Slumdog Millionaire' is the fact that a lot was made of organised crime there and the way in which corruption has that insidious effect," he said.

It is not lack of resources that is the issue. Political will to use existing resources with a determination is what is lacking. No amount of increase in taxation will make up for that. IOW balls required for the job cannot be purchased off the street.

At Nalco mine’s Ground Zero, story of CISF courage and fear
...
CISF jawans Salim Khan, Dharam Singh and Devinder Prasad opened fire, forcing the Naxalites to retreat but soon a second group of Naxals had advanced to the house where the explosives were stacked. The Naxalites hurled bombs, killing jawans Barun Parmanik, Bidhan Majhi and A C Pradhan. They seized the light machine gun in the magazine and used it to fire at the jawans. They also killed jawan Lalit Kumar, blowing him up with a grenade after tying his hands.

As his men fought and fell, Khan, who had taken position on a watchtower at the entrance, kept firing from an LMG. By then, 10 of his colleagues had been killed. Singh and Prasad, using night-vision devices, joined Khan, firing from their automatics.

“The jawans were outstanding. Despite no fortification of the magazine and fighting from a ragtag building, they showed their guts,” said DIG Sanjeeb Panda.

Though Parmanik’s death demoralised the 26 jawans in the magazine unit, they held their nerve. As more and more Naxalites joined in, the jawans kept in touch with each other and their commandants through cellphones. “We knew no reinforcements would come until morning as the Naxals had placed landmines on the 20-km Damanjodi-Panchpatmali road at 19 places. They had even blocked the road by cutting trees,” said a jawan.

Dilbu,

Can you show me the pharmacy where I get injection, which upon injecting would create "political will"?

The so called abstract concepts like political will, moral values, culture, manasikta, political culture etc are all useless concepts. The administration and whole nation runs of MATERIAL basis -- money, staff, weapons, weapon manufacturing factories, imprisoning corrupt officials, imprisoning criminals, not harassing innocents etc. There are NO abstract factors except the basic ones such as fear of imprisonment, fear of losing wealth, greed to get more wealth etc.

The Indian Police is highly understaffed. We have only 15,00,000 policemen whereas we need 45,00,000 at least. In addition, we need to buy advanced weapons for them. To that, we need 100,000 more courts, up from existing 16000. And then we need huge cash to create ID system so that courts, policemen can get information in time. All this needs cash in tune of 100000s crores. So lack of resources is a REAL reason.

============

re : NACLO .

If we had 3 times the policemen than we have now, Naxals would not have dared to attack NALCO. Also, if EVERY employee in NALCO was armed, then also naxals would not have dared to attack NALCO.

Hence solution to the naxal mess is

1. Imposing wealth tax, inheritance tax and increasing police to 3-5 times
2. Giving weapons to all.

i agree we need more policemen. but if we had political will, the maoists wouldn't have been in a position to create such chaos in the first place.

your position that political will and other such issues don't matter is utterly ridiculous.

Rahul Mehtaji,
Advocating short cuts like issuing guns for the population instead of developing the political will to improve internal security is very much like the paki way of doing things. We all know the the right thing for TSP to do is fight the Taliban head on, instead they go for Nizam-e-adl which is the easy way out but it will bring unwanted results like losing the writ of the state along with it.

The right thing for GOI to do in this case is to give priority to the threats we are facing internally and do whatever it takes to stop the menace using the state's force. It may not be the easiest thing to do but that is the only permanent solution to this problem. Govt running away from its responsibility leaving the citizens to defend themselves is not a solution. On the contrary, that is exactly the problem we have here.

Memo to the future
...
These are the consequences of government strategy that tries to fight Naxalites on the cheap. It took the Mumbai attack to impose some semblance of accountability on the office of the Union home minister; but there has been little indication from the Centre that any corrective has been put in place for Shivraj Patil’s waffling on Naxalites. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has in the past asserted that Naxalism was the single biggest internal security threat that India faced; but this fight has, essentially, been bequeathed to the government that takes office in May. Recall: when the entire Naxal leadership was surrounded in the Andhra forests, early on in the UPA government’s tenure, it was a call from New Delhi that saved them.  Some states have been less cavalier; human rights activists may rightly demand that charges of excesses be investigated, but at least the Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh governments have taken the threat seriously. Not so Naveen Patnaik’s Orissa. His government’s survival strategy is to sit back and ask for Central forces as a show of commitment — whether against hoodlums in Kandhamal or against Maoists elsewhere. The unprecedented circumstances of the Nalco attack, which involved 300 armed persons, indicate a failure of local intelligence that demands explanation.

Members above mentioned that in ten minutes, no significant force can be mustered to fight a bloodthirsty mob of hundreds. With that in mind, anything?
To prevent riots from happening, the first and foremost thing that a local pandu needs is a good khabri network. Most so called riots are preplanned events i.e. the weapons, petrol, soda bottle and tubelights etc needs to be gathered and prepared. Heck nowadays even decent sized stones are not easily found in most Indian urban settings. When things are in the planning stage is when you can prevent the riot from flaring up. Today however most politicians have defanged these well established khabri networks of the past. Today khabris are not sure if they provide the info that their name will be protected. The khabris tend to be from the same community from which the trouble may start. Today many may even sympathize with the cause for riot so will be less inclined to share info before it is too late. Until we prevent the over arching influence of politicians in the policing of the states we will never be able to prevent riots. A riot always furthers someones agenda and to prevent it you need to be able to hurt the one who benefits from the violence.

Efforts on to trace builder’s body in Malaysian waters
From the above article
Shetty, general manager and a Director of ACS Developers, part of SN Group of Companies, fell into the sea while vacationing aboard a star cruise along with his family members. It is suspected that the body of Shetty may have been devoured by sharks.

The staff at the office of the ACS Developers at Shankarnarayan Towers on M.G. Road also refused to answer queries on the whereabouts of Shetty or his wife Kasturi Shetty, who is stated to be in a serious condition at a hospital in Malaysia. Being an accomplished swimmer, she had dived into the sea to rescue her husband.

Is this the work of the mafia, few weeks back there were reports of the mafia threating Bangalore based builders

Suspected mass murder plot foiled in Gujarat
Kapil Dave
Wednesday, April 15, 2009 3:20 IST
Gandhinagar: An alleged plan to carry out a poison attack on IAS officers, senior government officials, visitors, and employees of the Gujarat state secretariat was foiled by an alert sweeper on Monday.

When he arrived for duty at the energy and petrochemicals department on the fifth floor of Block 5 of the secretariat, the sweeper claims to have found the lock of the water cooler's cover broken and the water in the cooler laced with deadly anti-termite pesticide. He found a sachet of the pesticide in the cooler and an empty 500gm sachet of the pesticide on the floor behind the machine.

Block 5 is adjacent to Block 1, where the offices of chief minister Narendra Modi and members of his cabinet are located. Senior bureaucrats, including S Jagdeesan, principal secretary in the energy and petrochemicals department, sit on the fifth floor of this block which houses other key departments such as industries and education and hosts hundreds of visitors every day.

The news of the alleged poisoning of drinking water in the cooler spread like wildfire in the secretariat, causing panic among government employees.

However, no senior official of the energy and petrochemicals department or the secretariat's security department has lodged a police complaint.

Employees of the department gave a written complaint to Jagdeesan, requesting that a police complaint be lodged. But Jagdeesan is said to have declined. According to sources, he did not want a complaint to be lodged now in the heat of the general election.

The employees then gave a written complaint to the Gujarat Sachivalaya Staff Federation.

Federation president Manu Patel confirmed receiving the letter. He said they would request Jagdeesan to lodge a police complaint. "If he does not respond, we will complain to the principal sectary of the home department and ask him to take necessary action," he said.

Despite several attempts, Jagdeesan could not be contacted for comment.

With regard to naxals India has to take a composite approach. Fighting them will not be enough. We have to deal with the underlying cause of the symptoms of naxalism. This include things like poverty, discrimination and ignorance by government machinery. Many of these naxals are adavasis or tribals and we have to aknowledge the fact that they have been given very short thrift by the indian state. This is to no way excuse their actions but if India wants to be rid of this problem it needs to address underlying concerns.

In February 2006, Maoist insurgents stormed the National Mineral Development Corporation’s explosives storage facility at Hiroli in Chhattisgarh. Nine CISF personnel were killed and hundreds of kg of explosives looted.

NMDC responded by working with the CISF to install state-of-the art perimeter protection equipment, including electronic sensors. NALCO, though, refused to implement similar defensive measures.
Seven seriously injured CISF personnel are being treated at the Seven Hills Hospital in Visakhapatnam. NALCO initially refused to pay for their treatment, but has since reversed its decision.
:x
The top brass of the NALCO site should be sent to a week's custody to make them learn their lesson....

One more arrested from Azamgarh for Jaipur blasts
Mohammed Iqbal

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan police have arrested yet another Muslim young man belonging to Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh on charges of involvement in the May 2008 serial blasts in Jaipur after obtaining his custody from the Special Task Force of the Madhya Pradesh police. They picked him up from a train at the Jabalpur railway station earlier this week while he was on his way to Mumbai along with his newly-married sister.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) produced Saif-ur-Rehman (22), before Chief Judicial Magistrate Omi Purohit here on Friday and obtained police remand for him till April 24. Mr. Purohit directed the ATS to get the young man medically examined after he alleged that he was beaten up and tortured by policemen to accept a crime he never committed.

Saif-ur-Rehman is the third youth from Azamgarh district implicated by the ATS in the Jaipur blasts case in which 69 persons were killed. The other two accused are electronics engineer Mohammed Sarvar, who is in judicial custody here, and Mohammed Saif, who was arrested from L-18 flat of Batla House in Delhi after a controversial encounter on September 19 last year. Saif-ur-Rehman, who earlier stayed with his brother in Delhi for two years, was residing at Azamgarh and studying for science graduation at the Shibli National College and preparing for the engineering entrance exams. His father, Abdul Rehman Ansari, retired as head of the Zoology Department at the same college.

The student was travelling in an AC III tier coach of the Mumbai-bound Godan Express on April 12 to escort his recently married sister to her in-laws in the metropolis. About a dozen officials of the Madhya Pradesh STF picked him up as well as his sister at the Jabalpur railway station in the middle of the night despite protest by co-passengers. The police took both of them to Bhopal and handed over Saif’s sister to her husband on Tuesday after calling him to the city from Mumbai. Saif was produced in a local court, which handed him over to the Rajasthan ATS on a transit remand. Saif said in the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court here that he was forced to sign on blank papers with a threat.
The writer clearly has his own agenda and believes the suspect to be innocent (Going by the tone of the article)
