OFB has been making small runs of Indian FAL with an orange-ish furniture for about a decade now... but this seems to be a particularly light one. Probably a play of light and some fading.

Some pics of my models from Silicon Valley Scale Modelers Classic Kickoff meet 2009. Unfortunately they were the only Indian entries in the whole show. Jingos really need to do something else besides write code, diagnose diseases, count stock options and rant on B-R

Diorama of the Battle of Asal Uttar (1/72 scale) . I had included a small 1-page description of the historical battle and what the diorama scene depicted in particular. That got a lot of interested visitors and questions....none of them had of course heard of the battle.

IAF Hawker Hunter of the Thunderbolts aerobatic team (1/144 scale). Tiny aircraft and hence, not that great of a paint job since it is hand-painted onlee. I need to seriously invest in an airbrush.

^^^ hmm...1:100....is that a standard scale? There are very few aircraft models in IAF colours mainly coz: (1) Jingos are more interested in video games and cubicle warming endeavours (2) Kits rarely come with IAF decals hence you have to design and make your own most of the times, esp. if the scale is 1:32 or 1:144. The IAF modeling gallery on B-R has been stagnant for a while...maybe you can post your pics of the Mig-29 there.

^^Probably not a standard scale. I think it goes more like 1:32/48/72/144. And yes, IAF colours are almost non existent. I had built 1:144 models of the MiG 25 and Su-33 a couple of years back. Due to inexperience ruined both trying to convert them to IAF colours. However I will make an effort on the MiG 29. If results are good, will put them up!

They may be regular fleet sailors on VBSS duty (do I see a shirt cuff under the black overalls of one guy?). Have never seen MARCOS with sterling though have seen IN sailors with them.

^^^ Marcos do not carry the Sterling. They are IN Sailors. These guys are trained in VBSS ops and provide perimeter Security when Ships in Port.

an ex-marcos once told me that they don't bother to standardise on any one weapon, but train on all available. in the normal penetration role, they expect to pick up weapons along the way or make do with things they find as well as what they bring along

That goes for most branches of the Indian Armed Forces. But the above refers to training on different weapon systems incase of non availability of small arms under whatever circumstance. However Marcos's primary SMG is the MP-5. If they were to be deployed on these Ex. They would get deployed with their Kit.

Thats true however in exercises such as VBSS training they will use their usual weapons load. Sterling is not part of their kit...actually never has been.

Hi Lal Mohan, I have very limited knowledge in this but one thing I do know for a fact that most special forces will NEVER pick up weapons along the way for the very simple reason that dependability of a weapon is less dependent on its make and model and lot more on its maintenance and upkeep. most spec op units have a very high standard that they will not depend on picking up weapons "along the way" unless they were captured and have escaped or they have lost their weapon (in which case they might not even bother reporting back to their unit, the section leader would make life a living hell). Even when it comes to using mags they will first take from a fellow soldier and then maybe off the ground. Unless they are "undercover" they will bring along a sufficient weapons load to last them the duration of the mission if possible.

I have those.. including the First Day cover... had to stand in line for that, but thanks to a friend in HAL, where they were getting them on payment, I was able to get my hands on a set.

I recently saw these commemorative plaques at the Dehradun Rly Station. All commemorating localites who were granted gallantry awards in the 1965 war. Upon inquiring from the railways staff, no one seemed to know as to how and when these came into being. Just wondering if anyone has seen such plaques at any other rly stations?

there is a similar plaque at Varanasi junction Wg Cdr SK Singh ( 1965) platform no 3

and also at Pathankot or was it kathgodam train station.. platform no 1.. dedications to air force officers 1965 ops.

Maulana jamwal-uddin, what kind of info do you need? Apart from diorama, rest of scale models are injection moulded plastic kits onlee.
