Update: After students of Aligarh Muslim University were found involved in the serial blasts now JNU professor's brother is a terrorist. 2 institutions which were expected to be the nation's premier education centres are recruiting grounds for terrorists. It's time to purge these institutions of commies and islamists before these devilish characters start another round of bombing campaign.
LeT terrorist Madani's brother JNU professor
Mohammad Umar Madni, recently arrested from south Delhi, was in the process of establishing a base in Bihar's Madhubani district. The Delhi Police got information on Madni from Mumbai train blast main accused Kamaluddin Ansari.
...
According to reports Mohammad Madni has four brothers - Md Johair, Md Uzair, Md Zubair and Md Munair.

Johair is believed to be a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Madni's other brothers are employed in Arab countries.

A search of JNU faculty or phone directory doesnt turn up any Johair. Unless its nom de plume.

Wont he have Madani as his last name? And even that doesnt run up anyone.

Karnataka police clueless about missing scientist
"We're yet to get any credible clue to track the missing scientist. The operation is on and hopefully we'll soon make some positive progress in our operation," Uttara Kannada District Superintendent of Police Raman Gupta told IANS on phone from Kaiga, about 500 km from here.

L. Mahalingam, 47, a senior scientific officer working with Kaiga atomic power plant for the last 10 years, left home Monday morning for a walk but did not return. His wife Vinayakar Sundari lodged a missing complaint with the police Monday evening.

This is not related to current internal security or COIN but I have been reading about Pravin Bhanjdeo, the Maharaja of Bastar who apparently revolted and was shot dead by police in the 1960s. My father as a kid had known his head cook (he was a Bengali gentleman who used to take him fishing, my father not the king!) and had seen the Maharaja at close quarters when my grandfather was posted there for overseeing Project Dandakaranya, so that got me curious as to what events led to his death. Any books/info (print or online) on this one can refer to?

The tribals in Bastar were disaffected and had grievances and rallied round the raja who led an armed revolt. However it was hardly an armed one as the weapons were mostly spears. It used to make the newspapers in those days. Try google might turn up something.

8 jawans blown up in ‘safe’ vehicle - Maoists take Insas rifles, kill cops
Bokaro, June 12: Within 48 hours of the Goelkera encounter, CPI(Maoist) rebels today killed 10 more security personnel — eight of them Special Task Force (STF) jawans in a landmine-protected vehicle — at Bermo and Nawadih in Bokaro district.

About 50 armed rebels, including several women and reportedly led by wanted Naxalite leader Navin Manjhi, swooped on State Bank of India’s Phusro Bazaar branch in Bermo, 32km from here, around 1.15pm, minutes after Rs 1 crore was deposited in the DVC account.

They split into groups. One attacked a policeman guarding the bank, snatched away his Insas rifle and tried to enter the bank. Seeing colleague Bandhu Oraon in trouble, another policeman, Raju Lohra, rushed to help, but was shot dead.

A second group of Maoists triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) near a four-wheeler as other policemen retaliated. They attacked constable Prabhunath Toppo, pumped in bullets and snatched away his rifle. Three more rifles were picked up from a police vehicle after which the rebels disappeared into a forested area in Nawadih, 17km from Phusro.

An SOS from the police in Bermo prompted an STF team of 13 jawans, led by Nawadih officer-in-charge Ramji Mahto, to set out for Phusro around 2pm.

Their landmine-protected vehicle had barely reached the dense Sarubera forest, 5km from Nawadih, when a powerful landmine blast was triggered by the Maoists. The impact was so severe that the heavily armoured vehicle was ripped apart and parts flung up to 20ft away. Eight STF jawans were killed.

Yeah 1st thing I did was google search but findings were quite sparse. From photos of Pravin Bhanjdeo, he looks like quite an intimidating figure. My father recalls seeing him throw money at his subjects from the top of a gate, a specific day each week.

Bad News, Maoism seems to be ramping up in India. There have been 50+ security personnel killed in the last week alone. This is a war folks, we need an effective counterisurgency campaign soon otherwise i dont even want to think about the consequences.

For Internal Security GOI uses Homeopathy, no surgery or cure, just symptomatic cure.

Problem is GOI switches between Homeopathy and Unani

If only i had stuck to Homeopathy motto

"similia similibus curantur"
Terror cures Terror (of Naxal, LTTE, JeM, LeT Jihadi)

Karnataka was in LeT terror net
The arrest and the subsequent interrogation of Madni by the Delhi police have revealed plans of possible terror attacks in various parts of the country.
Bangalore is also in their list of plans, an Intelligence Bureau official said.
Another matter which has surfaced is that the Bangalore police have named a Pakistani native, Abu Haroon (35), who was taking care of Haj travel packages at Moon Travels in Muscat. is said to have had close links with one of the main accused in the Bangalore’s serial blasts, Sarfaraz Nawaz
India will probably get access to Haroon secretly, if he is being held in Muscat. Rumour is that these characters are still being held without charge in sultanat.

Explosives in tiffin boxes cause flutter
MADURAI: Thirteen crude bombs packed in stainless containers were discovered and later defused in the temple city of Madurai in southern Tamil Nadu on Monday.
..................... could have caused damage up to a distance of 20 meters, .................
Police suspect the bombs could have been made by rowdy elements to attack rival gangs. Police are also looking into whether these were meant to trigger blasts inside the Meenakshi Amman temple, which received bomb threats six months ago.

In the mean while what is happening on the West Bengal front? If I read the news correctly it seems a huge area is now a no-go land for the Police forces as well as the W.B Commie cadre? The W.B Govt. has asked for more central forces to be rushed in (1 Coy already there, 5 more Coys required). Maoists along with adivaasis (tribals) seems to be behind this.

PS: A similar incident had happened in Kerala around 5-6 years back. The tribals (led by a few Naxalite sympathisers) had cordoned of a forest area and started living there. They had to be flushed out. They resisted fiercely, hacked a police man to death. Then it was all hell broken lose, and the police pulverised the tribals and their leaders. It happened in Muthanga, Wayanad Dt.

PPS: I am fine if commie cadres in West Bengal are kept away from the land, but the police forces should be able to move in freely.

There is enormous political unrest in W Bengal. There is natural uprising against CPM . This uprising has been taken over by Naxals/Mao and they are liberating districts one after another. The last one lalgarh is only 180 kms away from Calcutta. Which has been choked by naxals and land mines laid over . CRPF has asked permission for shoot to control mob as precondition to start operation. Last time similar thing happened in Nandigram resulting in massive bloodshed. CPM netas are being hacked to death in open view and their offices being burnt down one by one. In a large part of WB state govt as no writ. Fearing consequences local police has deserted police stations. I do not understand why this is not a national security issue.

There is tacit backing by TMC and Congress to Maoists this time (or so called Maoists), well it is delicious irony at one level to see CPI (M) fighting CPI (M) using the same means and methods they employed so far.

A poison to kill a poison anyone?

However as Brihspati has already said before -- taking CPM down be its own means is one thing, but the key is fulfilling the vacuum it will leave by a strong ideology. Clearly Congress is in no shape to provide the ideology.

In the long term we are in for some trouble here -- I am sure the EJs would have already started fishing in troubled waters.

The first and foremost prioriy is to make sure govt has control over all the area within India's map. The clash between Naxals (armed with AKs) and Police will make the area unstable and displace many people. This is disgusting . State machinery must be getting intelligence regarding advance of Maos why they kept quite, I saw on news, since 6 months it is not possible for local police to enter many parts of district lalgarh, W Murshidabad, Midnapore:

In the meanwhile, IG, DIG hurt in grenade blast, 3 cops die in clash in UP fighting dacoits:

When they say rival gangs, they mean rival politicians. Madurai is a city full of gangsters, the women feel like its downtown Riyadh sometimes.

Commies coming to an end in India is a good thing for sure, but then we don't want Naxals undermining our democracy and system after they are done with commies. A political vacuum will be there as soon as commies are finished, as posters before me said. Govt will have to do a lot of things like getting things up and running in good shape and form and also making sure that not only the naxals have been dealt with, but the reasons of uprising are quelled as well.
But only Gurus here can tell where its actually heading, towards a vacuum or a good start.

Central Govt. screwing the happiness of W.B Commies... :-?
A Mallu news paper reports that Central Govt. has said that it will not send in any more Central Paramilitary Forces to West Bengal. P Chidambaram has said that there are already 16 Coys of CPMF available for deployment but the state govt. is doing nothing. He also said that there has been no efforts put in by the state government to bring back law and order (law and order is primarily a state subject).

Honestly, we cannot trust the commies as well. Because I feel they are trying to get the CPMF to do the dirty job of crushing a revolt. And if any Human Rights groups etc. makes a fuss later, the commies will lay it to on the central govt.

most people are afraid that the commie vaccum will be filled up by extremist green ideology.
and no doubt the CPM is trying its best to fan such a notion, trying to position itself as the knwn and lesser devil. but I doubt this will buy them any time.

Police made the Maoists’ task easier, continuing to stay away from even the outskirts of the “liberated zone” in West Midnapore.
Party supporter Biswajit Mahato said the Maoists had “sent word to us that if we joined” the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities and backed their movement, “we could return home and live peacefully”. “Since all our CPM leaders had fled and accepted defeat, we decided to accept the terms set by the Maoists.”

Interesting story in Hindu

Bombs in steel containers found in Madurai

Bombs in steel containers found in Madurai

S. Sundar and S. Vijay Kumar

Passer-by injured when one of them exploded

Police rule out involvement of terrorist outfit

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MADURAI: Improvised country-made explosives packed in stainless steel containers were found dumped near a culvert on Ring Road in Madurai on Monday evening. A passer-by who tried to open one of the containers suffered minor injuries when it exploded.

According to police sources, a travel bag stuffed with the containers was noticed by Mahesh (27) of Rajapalayam, a mechanic working in a hydraulic equipment workshop on Ring Road. When efforts to open a container failed, he threw it in stagnant water nearby.

The second one, when thrown, exploded. The mechanic fled the scene with minor injuries on his face and leg. He informed the police about the development through an advocate.

Police personnel were deployed at the scene to keep the public away from the explosives. Sleuths of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad arrived early on Tuesday and defused a bomb. The explosive substance, said to be a mix of aluminium powder, gun powder, pieces of shaving blades, iron balls, pebbles and glass pieces, was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory. Ten bombs were detonated by the BDDS personnel. The device thrown into the water was yet to be recovered, informed sources said.

“The bombs could have been abandoned by somebody fearing police checking ahead on the main road,” said Inspector-General of Police (South Zone), Sanjeev Kumar, who visited the scene. It was for the first time that the culprits had used stainless steel containers with lids to pack explosive materials to make bombs, he said.

Stating that usually ropes were tied around country-made explosives, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar said the culprits could have used the steel containers for additional pressure to create more impact. “It could cause an impact for a radius of 20 metres,” he said.

In Chennai, Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) K. Radhakrishnan said: “We do not see the involvement of any terrorist organisation. Such bombs are commonly used in the southern districts to attack animals… some rowdy elements also use them to target rival gangs.” :(

Mr. Radhakrishnan said the improvised country-made explosives were designed to explode on impact. “We have formed special teams to investigate the source of the explosives and the persons involved.”

Preliminary enquiries with local people revealed that the explosives were placed recently, probably a couple of days ago. “Since police patrol vehicles ply on the Ring Road frequently, it is possible that some persons trying to transport the explosives might have concealed them under the bushes. There are some stone quarry sites in the locality where explosives are often used,” a senior police official said.

Virudhunagar Superintendent of Police T. Senthil Kumar, (in charge of Madurai district), and ‘Q’ Branch CID officials inspected the scene.
Clearly a case of qualitative improvement over country bombs tied with rope or suthli and the Police thinks not terrorist organization in involved. Are there minority cells in that area? The addition of all the small pieces is to create shrapnel effect.

Something is wrong in Madurai.

Dreaded dacoit gunned down in UP's Chitrakoot district
Dreaded dacoit Ghanshyam Kewat alias Nanhu, who was involved in a gunbattle with police officers in Uttar Pradesh's Chitrakoot district, was killed a short while ago. There were reports earlier that the dacoit had managed to give cops the slip. The encounter started over 48 hours ago and at least one policeman was killed on Thursday.
......
When asked about the gang, the DGP said it was "residual gang" of dacoit Baccha Kewat, who was killed earlier by the police.
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Indi ... 669954.cms
Sources said that Ghanshyam was killed in village Jamauli in Rajapur area, over 120 kms from Allahabad, when he was challenged by the police, who lost its four men in the fierce encounter.

Well ... blowback is a bitch ... from the article
Maoists were outsiders in West Bengal until the late 1990s when CPM minister Sushanta Ghosh shook hands with them to stop the Trinamool-BJP onslaught in 2000. In fact, Maoist strategist Koteswar Rao (Kishanji) told TOI in a recent interview that he himself collected bullets from the CPM party office. Sensing trouble in his backyard, Ghosh then turned the gun on the Maoists who had already spread their network in some pockets of West Midnapore.

With all due respect there is no basis for LTTE having a sort of a clearing HQ in Madurai. Zero basis claim. Just what on earth did LTTE have/bring to Madurai to clear really?

I don't know what John Snow saw but the LTTE never ran their business in North Car Street! Besides we're talking about THE LTTE! Whatever they were they made hi-tech bombs not improvised country style crude ones.

One should trust the professionals. Crude bombs have always been made in South India around Madurai. Usually deployed in caste, family feuds.
