Look out for Indian politicians who give audience to this envoy especially that of the main parties. If anyone ever do so....god help India.

The Contact Group on Kashmir was addressed by Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Niger
What is it with the "uber secular" Turkey and Anti-India attitude?

We should appoint a special envoy for Middle East issues which will look into Human Rights violation in Saudi, Hamas activities in Palestine, the Shia Druze problem in Lebanon etc.

And the envoy's office should be a huge building in Tel Aviv from where he will monitor the activities of the Middle East.

You mean GOI should send very thick dossiers (in triplicate copy) on these issues. :|

GOI has long lost its initiative about J&K.

GOI is seen perhaps as a soft opponent who will never reconquer territory or retaliate in a physical sense. The Jihadis are always scared of complete liquidation. This is a basic Islamic theme that our masters of diversity and protectors of oh-so-peaceful-Islam never cared to study in a strategic or tactical sense. In the face of complete annihilation TSP woiuld not have gone for an apocalyptic nuke dishout on India. They would have negotiated for a core of theologians and population to survive so that they can recover and hit back in the future. The trick would have been to be prepared for such "annihilatory" actions anyway (so that the double agents and others can confirm TSPA fears) and still hold out a line politically to other groups in TSP for a compromise if they scrap the army and agree to become part of India.

Time is on our side. It can be much more of a retreat, but that will clear up the way to eventual rollback.

India rejects OIC move to appoint envoy for Kashmir
New Delhi: India on Saturday condemned the "regrettable" move by the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) to name a special envoy for Kashmir, saying it has no locus standi in India's internal affairs.

"It is regrettable that the OIC has commented on India's internal affairs. We condemn and reject this," the external affairs ministry said here.

Asserting that "Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India", it said: "It is our firm position that the OIC has no locus standi in matters concerning India's internal affairs."

In a step believed to be influenced by Pakistan, the OIC, which promotes Muslim solidarity in political, social and economic matters, appointed Saudi Arabian Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman as special envoy to Kashmir last week.

This is the first time the OIC, which routinely issues resolutions on Kashmir, has taken a decision of this kind.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir's separatist All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC), has welcomed the move.

"We believe the OIC appointing a special envoy on Kashmir is a significant development. We want Muslim countries to use their good offices to persuade India to work on Kashmir," he told a 'contact group' of OIC in Washington.

Prem-ji,
real preparations and capacity building is needed so that GOI "really means it" is conveyed by the numerous monitoring entities that must be passing on info to TSPA. Without such actual preparations the threat will not be effective. This is the annoying bit as it will not happen anytime soon.

Is'nt China already giving out a special type of VISA for residents in Jammu and Kashmir? A kind of VISA which is practically a sheet of paper, and no entries made in the passports at all?

Iraq, perhaps, was amongst the few Middle East countries in the past that had stood with India on the Kashmir issue.
It took a Narshimha Rao, beyond the usual Congress coterie to take this bold step as did he on liberalisation!

An unsung hero without the correct lineage!

And we sold Iraq down the drain since we love Bush or so stated our PM on our behalf!

ISI orders 60 Taliban militants to enter India

Tuesday October 6, 2009, Srinagar

Sources say 60 Taliban militants are waiting to enter India. They are among 350 militants housed in camps in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

The fighters have allegedly been told by Pakistan's ISI to enter India or face jail.

Extra vigil on the International border and Line of Control has been ordered. Intelligence sources say that the next 15 days are key for India to prevent the militants from entering the country.

More details are awaited.

Hindus and Sikhs had to run for their lives from Lahore. We do not dwell upon it forever but our women were kidnapped, raped or focibly married to na-Pakis. Lahore was controlled by Hindu and Sikh businessmen. The Pakis were only employees. My grandfather owned 3 Mills in the Lahore area. He lost everything when they had to run for their lives.

Pakis are now stewing in their own excreta. They yearn for Kashmir as if that will be their salvation. If India hands over the valley to Pak, will it fare better than POK? Will human-rights in the valley under Pak be better than those in POK or in Pak? Will the Taliban control the valley like they control Swat, Waziristan and other areas in Pak?

Vivek, I understand your anguish---my grandfather used to own a house in a nice locality in Lahore. His brothers etc. lived nearby. They had to abandon that and flee. Lahore as a city was about 50% Hindu/Sikh, and in terms of economic activity was 95% Hindu/Sikh. The M's looted and plundered and took over all the wealth. But hey, let us talk of pollution in Srinagar first.

Feast for the Armed forces in J&K
J&K: Attack choppers hunt for terrorists
7 Oct 2009, 1109 hrs IST
A massive hunt was launched on Wednesday (October 7) for the nine terrorists, who are hiding in the jungles of North Kashmir in Pampore, J&K. Attack choppers are being used to hunt down the hiding terrorists, even as red alert has been sounded in the state.

The Army busted a terrorist hideout earlier in the morning, however, all the terrorists managed to flee. After an extensive search operation, the security forces killed one of the ten Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative.

The Army reportedly got a tip-off about the militants hiding in the hills adjoining the forests, but the terrorists managed to give the security forces the slip. Since then the Army has been on a massive lookout for the LeT operatives.

While the nine terrorists are on the run, the Army has been able to find their hideout. Inside the hideouts were all sorts of arms and ammunition, which has been used by these terrorists so far to tackle the Army. The Army also recovered blankets, mattresses, and cartons of food, dry fruits and even water -- stock enough to last the winter months in the state.

Meanwhile, sources said top LeT commander from South Kashmir, Abu Rehman Bhai is amongst the nine hiding terrorists. Sources added that he is a Pakistani national and is said to be behind the IED explosion that took place in front of the Srinagar Central Jail last month. The security forces said that he has a reward of Rs 10 lakh over him. The army managed to track down his mobile phone and only then the troops of the 50 Rashtriya Rifles commenced this intensive search and combing operation in the forest area of Pampore.

According to sources, if Abu Rehman is gunned down, it would be one of the biggest achievements of the army in Jammu and Kashmir, because he was actively involved in bringing more youngsters of the state into the LeT cadre.

Meanwhile, there is trouble brewing in Kupwara, North Kashmir where three terrorists have been gunned down in an on-going encounter with the J&K security forces.

Another militant was killed in a gunfight with security forces at Trikanjan in Baramulla district, 90 kms from Srinagar, this morning.

From what visuals were showing, the only "attack" choppers circling around were the Chetaks/Cheetahs which seemed to be on a recon mission and hardly a attack mission.

SRINAGAR: A self-styled battalion commander of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit was on Friday killed in an operation jointly carried out by army and

As with all our recent pig catches , we seemed to have active intelligence on this one too and security forces shot him pnly when they found it absolutely necessary and were convinced that he was going to carry out his mission today.

Who announces the reward money. Does anyone collect it should the terrorist become pest-e-shaheed?
The money could come in useful to rehabilitate the people whose property got damaged in the encounter or to treat the injured etc etc.

Suicide bomber with 30 kilos of RDX killed

NDTV Correspondent, Friday October 9, 2009, Srinagar

The joint operation between Jammu & Kashmir police and the CRPF to hunt down Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) men who had infiltrated with a view to attack Srinagar is in its fourth day now.

On Thursday night, a suicide bomber Umar Maviya was shot dead at Gusu village in South Kashmir.

He came from Pakistan with the mission to launch a suicide attack in Srinagar. He was carrying 30 kilograms of RDX, two grenades and a rifle.

Security forces are carrying out a combing operation in the Pampore forests where eight to 10 LeT men are said to be hiding.

''This is part of our offensive against the terrorists, especially LeT. The terrorist that has been killed in South Kashmir, Mudasir, belonged to LeT. Three terrorists that have been killed in North Kashmir belong to LeT," said Farooq Ahmad, Inspector General, Kashmir.
Mudasir, an explosives expert, was killed two days ago. He was behind the car bomb attack that blew up a police vehicle outside Srinagar's Central Jail on September 12, which killed three people.

A Hizbul Mujahidden terrorist for 10 years, Mudasir had recently started working for the Lashkar.

These inter-organisational shifts are quite common in the region as most terror organisations are collaborators.

This operation is one of the longest in recent months. It was launched against the LeT men who are targeting Srinagar for last few months.

Wow....some real intel seems to be flowing through to the forces.

Wonder how the intel apparatus is coping after CRPF took over the duties of the G-Branch in major cities?

Five dead as India foils infiltration bid: army

SRINAGAR, India — Indian troops killed five Islamic militants, three of whom were trying to sneak into Indian Kashmir from the Pakistani side of the disputed region, the army said Saturday.

Jammu-Valley love story ends in tragedy
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/jammu ... dy/527425/

Ishfaq Naseem Posted online: Saturday , Oct 10, 2009 at 0457 hrs

Jammu : A seven-year love story of a Muslim girl from Kashmir and a Hindu boy from Jammu has ended in tragedy: the boy is dead and the girl — now his wife — has accused police of colluding with her family to kill him. Two policemen have been suspended and a third transferred, and the administration is struggling to put a lid on simmering tension that has already seen two senior officials being manhandled by mobs.
On October 6, Jammu businessman Rajneesh Sharma was found hanging in a cell in Srinagar’s Ram Munshi Bagh police station. He had been picked up from his brother Pawan Sharma’s home in Rehari in Jammu on October 2 by policemen who apparently mistook him for Pawan.

The Srinagar administration ordered a magisterial inquiry into the custodial death, and an autopsy was conducted. However, after the Sharma brothers’ mother Raj Rani identified the body as Rajneesh’s, a second autopsy was done at the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu.

Rajneesh’s wife Anchal — who used to be called Amina earlier — told Jammu Deputy Commissioner Manoj Dwivedi today that she believed her family in the Valley had a hand in her husband’s death. “My father and brothers have killed my husband... you hang them,” she shouted, distraught. She accused her family in Kashmir of lying when they said she was underage, and declared she had married Rajneesh of her free will.

“When I left the Valley, my mother knew I was going to Jammu to get married. She prepared food for the journey,” Anchal told The Indian Express. “My family bribed the police, spent money to get my husband killed,” she alleged.

According to Anchal, she first met Rajneesh seven years ago — when she was 20. He used to visit Kashmir in connection with his aluminium fabrication business. “We met in Gulmarg. We would meet in restaurants, and stayed in touch on cell phones. Finally, we decided to marry,” she said. They were married in an Arya Samaj temple on August 21.

The same day, Anchal’s father Mohammad Yousuf filed a report with the Nehru Park police post in the Valley saying his 17-year-old daughter Amina was missing. On August 25, the police registered a case of kidnapping of a minor, and zeroed in on Rajneesh and Pawan through cell phone records. According to police, the family of Amina/Anchal told them they knew the brothers, who would frequently stay at their houseboat.

With the help of their counterparts in Jammu, the Srinagar police located Rajneesh in Rehari. However, it seems that when the police arrived, Rajneesh pretended he was Pawan. He was brought to Ram Munshi Bagh police station, where he, according to an initial probe by the police, hanged himself with a pheran.

The Sharmas alleged foul play and refused to cremate the body, demanding the registration of a case of murder, and the arrest of the policemen. Two policemen and the SHO of Ram Munshi Bagh police station have been taken off their posts.

Today, a mob gheraoed Deputy Commissioner Diwedi outside the Sharma home. His deputy Rohit Khajuria was manhandled. The officers were finally rescued by SP City Randeep Kumar and SDPO Swatantar Arora.

In the evening, senior civil and police officers met with the family in the presence of prominent Jammu citizens at the police control room. The administration agreed to a cash compensation and jobs for two members of the family. The family agreed to cremate Rajneesh tomorrow.

^^^ One should be cautious about such Hindu-Muslim love affairs since they unnecessarily rile up emotions amongst the population.

The longer term project is to reconcile the people of Kashmir with their own Indic civilizaional heritage. Such emotional incidents are a set-back.

Anyway, sympathies to the young widow and the other family members. Hope some kind of justice can be done.

Hmm ... we should be playing for bigger stakes and do not want to get derailed by petty issues.

One of the reasons Jaichand betrayed Prithviraj was the feeling of violated honour in connection with some love affair. But look at the consequences.

But yes, now that this incident has occurred, one hopes that justice will be done, otherwise we become a banana republic that does not protect its citizens (esp. if they belong to a particular community). In the civilizational battle, you cannot afford to lose credibility. Nobody will respect you if you don't take care of your own.

Total myth, there's no evidence for the Sanyogita story. And anyway what does this have to do with the love marriage between the Dogra boy and the Kashmiri girl? Weren't they inhabitants of the same state?

Is it? How did it then become so widespread? And what about the story that Prithviraj, with misplaced generosity, had let off Ghori several times?

Don't want an "Amarnath land" type unnecessary fiasco. There are bigger stakes - need the population to feel proud of their Indic heritage. For example, there was a Yoga Shibir in Srinagar recently which attracted a very good response.

The goal is to reach a situation wherein the parents of such a girl would not feel any dishonour in their daughter's marital decisions. We will get there slowly.

That goal is a pipe-dream. For how many generations have the KMs enjoyed the pick of the Indian Union's resource allocations? What happened to all the "tolerant sufism" and "Kashmiriyat" the tourist-brochures wax eloquent about? Even in supposedly well-consolidated regions of the country, people of a certain community are apt to indulge in organized violence if their daughters make certain marital decisions. Pandering to that sort of ingrained, supremacist bigotry is no solution, it is merely what has compounded the problem to its present extent.

Even in supposedly well-consolidated regions of the country, people of a certain community are apt to indulge in organized violence if their daughters make certain marital decisions. Pandering to that sort of ingrained, supremacist bigotry is no solution, it is merely what has compounded the problem to its present extent.
There are some rabid sections of society that are beyond reach, and they tend to dominate the discourse. But the majority is much more approachable, imho. Otherwise they would not have defied the separatists to vote in large numbers.

We have been pandering to the rabid sections, and that is quite futile. I do not suggest that myths about tolerant Sufism be promoted. A few Sufis may have been spiritual but others were bigots.

What is needed is something different - the gravitational attraction of their own Indic heritage. I don't think it's impossible.
