Mole in state intelligence HQ
LUCKNOW: Top terror outfits like the ones behind the 1999 Kandhar hijack had planted a mole at the state intelligence headquarters in Lucknow. If
you find this piece of news shocking, then here is worse: Despite having established presence of the mole 12 years ago, security agencies have not only failed to track him down, but have also called off the hunt now.

This, when the mole in question tried to orchestrate the escape of a dreaded Pakistani terrorist Nasrullah Mansoor — lodged in Tihar jail. He actually faxed confidential message from the state intelligence headquarters to the police in Mathura on January 14, 1997. The directives were to seek custody of Nasrullah against warrant B issued supposedly by the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Mathura, RC Sharma on December 16, 1996.

The warrant B in question was later found to be a forged one and a case was registered in this regard with the Kotwali Sadar police of Mathura against crime number 22/1997 on January 18, 1997. Investigations into the forged warrant not only indicated that it was a part of a well-orchestrated move of Nasurllah’s aides to help him escape from custody while being brought to Mathura from Tihar jail. The probe also confirmed that fax message purportedly sent from the state intelligence headquarters as a covering letter for the forged warrant, was not sent by any of the officials concerned.

Listed as one of the founders and military head of Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HuJI) Nasrullah happens to be a close aide of Maulana Azahar Masood and had been nabbed in an army crackdown in Ashmuqam area of South Kashmir on November 16, 1993, barely three months before Azhar Masood’s arrest on February 11, 1994. Having fought the war in Afghanistan from 1983 to 1992, this native of Jalalpur in Gujrat (Pakistan) was one of the top military brains of Harkat-Ul-Mujahideen (HuM) till it was banned by US. Subsequently, Nasrullah formed HuJI.

His importance for the terror outfits can be gauged from the fact that his name figured in the final list of five militants whose release was sought by the Kandhar hijackers in 1999. The Indian agencies though agreed to hand over Azhar Masood, they refused to let go Nasrullah and a close aide of his after which Azhar and two others were released. Such is the stature of the now 50-something lanky Nasrullah Mansoor Langriyal that he has been shifted to more than a dozen high security prisons across the country on security reasons.

Police eye Pak dossier as evidence to nail Fahim
The Mumbai Police want to use Pakistan’s dossier on its internal probe into the 26/11 attack, submitted to India, as evidence in their case against alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba operative Fahim Ansari.

The dossier has become vital in establishing the prosecution’s case that Ansari had travelled to Pakistan using a bogus Pakistani passport, Crime Branch sources told Newsline.

To establish the dossier as authentic evidence, the police have two options: approach a representative of the Pakistan Embassy in New Delhi to depose as witness, or urge a representative of the Ministry of External Affairs depose on the source of the document.

Sources said the former option was impractical as Pakistani officials would be unwilling to depose in an Indian court, and even if they did, it could serve as a precedent for a request from Pakistan to return the gesture in future.

On September 25, the special court trying the case had refused to take on record a certified copy of an alleged Pakistani passport recovered from Ansari. This was after Ashok Kumar Raghav, an officer with the UP Special Task Force, had produced copies of the passport and other documents, and was cross-examined by Ansari’s lawyer Shahid Ansari.

The court said there was no proof that the passport was issued by the Pakistan government. “It’s mere presumption that the passport has been issued by the Pakistani authorities,” Special Judge ML Taheliyani had said.

The Crime Branch’s eagerness to place the dossier before the court stems from the fact that the dossier says that Mumbai resident Ansari travelled to Pakistan in late 2007 using bogus documents, as alleged by the Mumbai Police.

An update of the action taken by Pakistan against those named as fugitives by India, the dossier mentions that Ansari entered Pakistan in November 2007 under the name Hamad Hassan using a bogus Pakistani passport with the number BM-680-9341. Ansari “obtained the passport through misdeclaration of facts”, it says without elaborating.

Pakistani investigators cross-checked these facts with their passport office, as well as with airport entry records, according to the dossier. However, the dossier is silent on the crucial charge that the alleged maps and videos made by Ansari were handed over to Lashkar handlers in Pakistan who used them to plot and execute 26/11.

The army was called out in Assam's violence-hit Sonitpur district Monday after tribal separatists attacked a village and gunned down 12 people, officials said.

Twelve locals were massacred and 13 wounded when heavily armed militants of the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) late Sunday attacked village Bhimajuli in Sonitpur district, about 240 km north of Assam's main city of Guwahati.

Four women and five children were among those killed when the group of about eight to 10 NDFB militants used automatic weapons and opened indiscriminate fire on villagers. Ten people were killed on the spot and two of the 15 injured died at the hospital Monday.

On Monday, angry villagers armed with bows and arrows, machetes and spears, roamed the area threatening to attack homes of tribal Bodos.

. Says a Delhi Police officer: “Around 400 trucks come from Kashmir to Delhi every day. It’s not physically possible to check the details of every man in the truck. We do not rule out pockets in Delhi where terrorist activities may be going on clandestinely.”

.
That is effing bull$hit. I it very possible to check every 400 truck for identities of the occupants. India is a manpower rich nation. It is not suffering in shortage of manpower like Norway or Israel. It is NOT impossible to do the job. It is the attitude and will power that is needed. I have done the almost impossible tasks not once but many times. A job especially in the security field is not on a nine to five schedule. Sometimes it could be longer and sometimes it could be much much much longer.
It pisses me off big time when people give up just like that by claiming this or that is impossible to do. I don't care how difficult a task is....there are always more than one way to do it.

There are no barriers at interstate crossings, afaik. In some states there are octroi posts outside cities.

Where there is a will there is a way. Doesn't seem hard to check a few thousand people if you really wanted to do it. But we are like this onlee - for example, we are helpless (and hopeless) while millions of Bangladeshis illegally vote in our elections.

No there are barriers for checking outside interstate crossing (toll booths) as well as octroi posts outside cities.

The point is to check 400 trucks (since trucks from J&K are not some special easily identifiable ones) all trucks have to stop and be checked. Which they are (papers etc) since there is no guarantee that folks wont jump from one truck to another between check points. (to a non J&K truck)

Even if we just restrict to one set of trucks, a though scan of a truck will increase the time the truck will have to wait to pass (even with lot of manpower) which will in turn cause a huge back log at those.

Even then what will it achieve? Once in place a person can easily jump off the truck 5 kms before and walk across and get back on?

Sometimes the GoI folks do make sense you know. If this is to be stopped, there would need be other ways.

Toll booths are there on toll roads, and are not necessarily at interstate boundaries. Yes, there are various difficulties, but then there are also solutions to those difficulties. I agree that just checking trucks is inadequate. If you really want security, you need biometric ID/payment devices to keep track of everybody, everywhere, and at all times. These devices should also be automatically scanned at entrances and exits of railway platforms, stadiums etc. Maybe have RFID embedded in them. Similarly keep track of all vehicles, all phones, and so on. Store DNA fingerprints. Abolish all cash - electronic payments only. And create data-mining software to handle the huge volumes of information.

There is scope for abuse, but a possible safeguard would be to require the government to function at very high level of transparency. All files should be in electronic form and all non-secret files should be by default available on the web.

Yup these steps are needed. The current system is not going to meet the new challenges, since it was never designed for one.

Unfortunately any which way when we start looking at Internal security, we come to overhaul type of solution very rapidly.

SSridhar- regarding the Madurai incident my 2 cents

Could also be the work of some very honarable men from a very honanrable organization who were realeased early for thier honarable and beautiful crimes. The realease of these men was praised with much Fanfare and praised in a half an hour piece by a very popular news channel- this news channels promoter uses babies(and cries about child labour which Indians use) for good ratings on a anther sister channel.

A very prominent chief editor from a self claimed leading Chennai based newspaper was also present prasing the realease.

P.S. None of the relatives 58 victims (unlike recently a encounter relatives being splashed repeatedly) of those who died in the honorable crime or those who were maimed or injured in the incident were invited.

Madurai also was a base of some very nice men from the 'religion of peace'. One of them had attacked policemen escorting him to the courts and made good his escape. But poor chap got tracked to Bengaluru, with 'TN's finest' soon landing up and asking this man to meet 72 ladies ;).

How common are 'vengaya vedi's' these days? I thought there was a ban on these things due to their unpredictable nature?

Regarding the blast near Madurai, police say it was firecracker
Ruling out any sabotage by fundamentalists or other groups, he said initial investigation by the bomb detection and disposal squad suggested that the explosion was caused by crackers.
Police suspect Maoists hand
Even as the police claimed the explosion as nothing but crackers, highly placed sources in the Police Department did not rule out the hand of Maoists behind the incident.

A few senior police officers who visited the Sholavandan railway station told The Hindu that though a closer look at the scene of crime gave an impression that it might be due to cracker blast, the seizure of a gunny bag filled with country-made crackers (popularly known as vengaya vedi in Tamil) had raised eye brows over the claims. “We have to find out if there is any pamphlet or other material in the site,” they added. The police, along with the Special Task Force, have been carrying out ‘combing operations’ in Dindigul for the last 10 to 15 days. Perhaps, the searches may have forced the Maoists to shift their base.

Following specific information that members of the Maoist group identified as Kalidas, Chandra, Vivek alias Raja of Chennai were moving in Dindigul district, a hunt was on, another officer added.
The Maoists are spreading along the entire stretch of the Eastern Ghats. Tamil Nadu needs to put down the Maoist menace with a firm hand. These Maoists may collude with the fundamentalists who are spreading in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu as some posters have rightly pointed out before. The release of the Al Ummah terrorists recently from the Coimbatore prison was the most short-sighted action by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

Traders in Amritsar, Jammu held for ‘funding’ Lashkar militants...

Police said the modus operandi was simple: A Jammu-based businessman Suraj Singh and a Kashmiri trader from Kulgam set up companies which would receive goods from across the LoC via the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road and Chakada Bagh in Poonch. These goods were sent to two Amritsar-based businessmen identified as Vipin Kumar and Sanjeev.

Police said these two Amritsar businessmen — who have been arrested along with Suraj Singh while the Kulgam-based trader is on the run — would send the cash directly to Mushtaq, who would funnel it to militants.

Police said the businessmen got huge cuts, sometimes up to 40 per cent.

Sources said the Kulgam-based Kashmiri trader’s son is a militant now based in Pakistan and a crucial link in the racket. “Mushtaq (also) went to Pakistan earlier this year and we are investigating that angle too,” a police officer said.

Last year there were reports of various girls missing in and around Mangalore. The media, of course, was more interested in the pub incidents.

Earlier this year, there was another report :
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Intelligence agencies have begun a probe into the mysterious disappearance of a student of a Mangalore nursing college and her arrival at an Islamic seminary in Kerala's Kozhikode.

The incident assumes significance following reports that Pakistan's ISI has been giving training to women for jihad. Intelligence sleuths say four people, including two from Kerala, have been involved in the recruitment of women cadre for jihad, especially after 26/11.

With Mangalore's links with terror modules coming out in the open, intelligence agencies suspect there may be a racket operating in the region to woo women. SIMI is believed to have established a women's wing in Kerala.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Indi ... 003319.cms

This year, there are constant stream of reports on the same, albeit from Kerala. The Kerala High Court ordered the state police to investigate the matter. And in a related case, a court rejected the bail plea of two people accused with luring the girls into the jihadi trap. The suspects are attached to a facade organisation of the Popular Front of India (PFI). As per a Daily Pioneer report of September 4,
The racket came to light when one of the victims turned out to be the daughter of a ranking police officer and another somehow managed to send word to her parents about the reality of her situation. The parents in the second case approached the High Court with a habeas corpus petition that led the court to order the police to produce the victim before it. The plea that the woman had eloped on her own and that she was now legally married  did not convince the court and it ordered that she be allowed to stay with her parents for a week before it again examined the case. After a week, the woman told the court the truth.

The police have now discovered a kidnapping racket to provide recruits to Pakistani terror outfits through ‘Love Jihad’. Further investigations have revealed that all over India some 4,000 young women have been recruited in this manner to be trained against their will as terrorists and suicide bombers. In Kerala alone the police suspect that over 500 women have fallen victim to the ‘Love Jihad’ racket.

According to the Thiruvananthapuram victim who gave a statement before Justice R Basant of the Kerala High Court, Islamist gangs have been freely operating without the police or intelligence agencies getting even a whiff a their activities.

http://www.dailypioneer.com/200241/Jiha ... women.html
The PFI is clearly an organisation with jihadi origin. That it has taken upon itself to "protect" their co-religionist girls and use the kafir women for the dirty job of jihad is more than clear. Yet it continues to act and is immune to the law.

Muslim girl and Hindu boy assaulted for having a relationship

Wednesday, Oct 07, 2009

PFI is a member of the Karnataka Communal Harmony Forum

MANGALORE: A Hindu boy and Muslim girl, who visited a restaurant together, were attacked in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday by cadres of the Popular Front of India (formerly Karnataka Forum for Dignity).

Claiming responsibility for the attack, district general secretary of PFI Ataullah said the attack was because the boy and the girl were involved in a “romantic relationship”. They were from Belvai in Moodabidri, 30 km from here, he added.

Eyewitnesses told The Hindu that a group of 40 men surrounded the restaurant and demanded that the boy and the girl step outside. Once outside, they were assaulted, berated and then separated.

While eyewitnesses said that the boy and the girl were taken away by the cadres of PFI, Mr. Ataullah said that they set the boy free “after a few blows”. Nevertheless, Mr. Ataullah confirmed that the girl was in the custody of PFI cadres  (Somehow this is not illegal confinement ? ) when The Hindu spoke to him. “She has been taken to a safe place and our boys have asked her father to come to the city from Moodabidri,” he said.

Justifying the action of PFI cadres, Mr. Ataullah said: “The PFI does not condemn the action. However, the organisation always advises its cadres to refrain from involving in issues such as this. But how can we or our boys keep quiet when one of our women is courted by a boy from another community?”
So while its cadres try to convert jafir women and use them for jihad, its general secretary is at pains to explain " how can our boys keep quiet when one of our women is courted by a boy from another community?”.

Another issue of concern is how exactly do the jihadi Islamists coax the kafir educated women to take up the cause of jihad. Can merely showing jihad videos cause the kafir educated women to blow herself for the cause of jihad ? Unlikely so, since the kafir educated women is most likely raised in either an intellectual ideological secular vacuum or in Sanatan Dharma ideology, it is difficult to accept such idiotic videos and blow one up.

Another technique to turn a person into a suicide bomber is to mentally disorient, demoralise, drug or shame the women into doing the task. Are the jihadi Islamists using the ways of the "Mother of believers" um al-mummein Samira Jassim to rape, abuse torture women and then completely make her unstable ?

When the jihadi Islamisists abduct girls, it is the duty of the police indeed to file an FIR and investigate. Unfortunately or otherwise due to secularism in practice, the police, of whichever state, tends to soft pedal the tragic incidences. In the above case, notice how a plea was admitted stating "woman had eloped on her own and that she was now legally married" , hence there was no need to investigate the matter" ?!? What then prevents any jihadi Islamist to forcibly abduct , "marry" a kafir women and use her for jihad or simply use as a right hand possession?

Yesterday, in Mumbai a similar case of abduction was treated by the police as a Non Cognisable report, that is a "routine entry".
Abduction bid foiled

Mumbai: A teenaged girl was dragged out of her college by two boys and then pushed into a cab, screaming and shouting for help, on Wednesday afternoon. The boys would have driven off with her had it not been for a passer-by who intervened. Several people watched the drama at K C College, a stones throw from the high court and Mantralaya, but remained silent spectators.

Between 5.30 pm and 5.45 pm, Naina (name changed), who had just finished writing an exam paper, was chatting with her friends in the college compound when Salman , from Mohammad Ali Road, came up to her and dragged her outside. Salman had an accomplice with him.

Salman has been harassing her for over an year and a month ago, he had taken her out of the college to a nearby footpath where professed his love for her. Naina, incidentally , does not have anything to do with Salman.

Though her friends tried to chase the boys away, they could not stop them. Just as the driver was about to start the taxi, businessman Vijay Jethmalani, who was passing by, stopped the car. I asked the girl if she wanted to be with the boys. When she told me they were carrying her off against her will, I stood guard against the boys and asked the girl to alight from the cab, said Jethmalani.

The girl ran back into her college but Salman again caught her and tried to take her back to the taxi. This time, Jethmalani , who was still there, hit Salman and sent him away; in the process, he received a volley of abuses from the boys, who threatened to call their friends to teach him a lesson .

Jethmalani escorted the girl back to the college and wanted to meet the principal but he said he wasnt allowed to get past the office clerk. He lent Naina his mobile from which she called up her family and waited with her till her relative arrived.

A non-cognisable offence  has been filed with the cops. College principal M Nichani said she was unaware of the event.
Thanks to the person, the girl was saved, only this time though. Notice the "non-cognisable offence". There is no legal responsibility on the police to investigate the case, and given the burden of cases and the secular nature of the offence, it is unlikely that the case will be taken up. If the same case had occured in which a girl fom a particular community was abducted, there would be media mayhem with statements not less than the level of Asst Commissioner of Police. How does the cops know that this is a case of merely "love" and not "love jihad" ?

To cut a sad story short, in our country, if you are not from a certain community, teach your daughters (and sons) self defence. Alongwith Kathak, a course of Karate and a chilli spray is a must. And provide a strong reasoning to them to understand circumstances. Since the law is practically left to be used only when some higher up gets into the jihadi trap, it is better to be self dependant as much as possible.

Request/Suggestion to all posters:

Can we post all news and discussion on the Naxal problem only in the "Red Menace" thread? Or at least, cross post any items related to Naxal/Maoism over there?

It would really help to bring all the data through one pipeline so that we can track and analyze it more easily.

Thanks.

He made calls of 1.75 lakh to Pakistan in 2 days
First Published : 11 Oct 2009 07:42:46 PM IST

ALLAHABAD: Police are investigating a young man who purchased 10 post-paid SIM cards from this city in July, took them to Azamgarh district and in two days made calls costing Rs.1,75,000 to various numbers in Pakistan, Afganistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar.

The police now suspect the young man, Haseen, now absconding, to be involved in anti-national and terror activities.

"Haseen purchased the SIM cards on a fake identity July 10 through Ishtikar Alam. He paid Rs.20,000 each for the SIM cards and took them to Azamgarh. All the cards were destroyed in the next two days," Inspector Ramadhar Singh of Civil Lines police station told IANS over phone.

The police are also puzzled with the disappearance of Alam who lodged an FIR against Haseen last Wednesday.

"Alam arranged the SIM cards of Idea network from Sanjiv Tiwari, a distributor of the company. The identity proof of Rakesh Kumar, who worked in the company a few months ago, was used. Alam has also worked in this company for some time and he is now working in another mobile company," Singh added.

Rakesh Kumar is now working in Mumbai for another mobile company.

The Special Task Force (STF) and the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the police have also been roped in for investigations. Haseen lived in a rented accommodation in the Kareli area of Allahabad and is missing along with his family soon after the FIR was lodged by Alam.

"Haseen also made a payment of Rs.1.5 lakh (Rs.150,000) against the bills and we have also found that on earlier occasions, he has bought post-paid SIM cards in huge numbers and made calls to similar destinations from Azamgarh," Singh added.

Meanwhile, the police are planning to question the local employees of the Idea service providers.

"Such huge bungling is impossible without connivance of the employees of the company and they will be questioned if necessary. Besides, we will also question Sanjiv Tiwari, who is currently out of the city," Deputy Inspector General of Police, Allahabad range, Chandra Prakash said.

According to police sources, military intelligence also is investigating the case and the numbers to which the calls were made from Azamgarh are being traced.

A police team has been sent to Azamgarh for further investigations.

Azamgrah's other name is Atankgarh and Azamgarhi factor is big in starting and stopping communal riots in UP. Azamgarh is also the breeding ground for Dawood's gang family their contract criminals . Its no surprize that many terrorism related leads point to this area.

Ghandy tough-nut to crack, say police sources
New Delhi, Oct 11 (PTI) Arrested Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy appeared to have emerged as a "tough-nut to crack" for Delhi Police even as it came to light that Naxals were using technology to their advantage like operating "hard drive-less" laptops with the help of pen drives.

Ghandy, who is currently under the custody of Delhi Police's Special Cell, is understood to have not revealed much to his interrogators on the network of Maoists in the city as well as the banned outfit's future plans.

The 63-year-old Polit Bureau member of CPI (Maoist) was arrested by the Special Cell on September 21 from Bhikaji Kama Place acting on intelligence inputs.

However, Maoists claimed that he was picked up on September 17 by Intelligence Bureau after a "weak element" in the CPI (Maoist), who was acting as Ghandy's courier, "betrayed" him.

"He is one of the ideologues of the party.

3 Part article on Tamil Nadu CM releasing 10 Al Umma terrorists who were involved in the 1998 Coimbatore serial blasts, on Annadurai’s 101st birth anniversary. Posting excerpts.

‘Compassionate’ government; perilous state; pathetic people - I
‘Compassionate’ Karunanidhi'

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s concern for ‘humanity’, ‘humaneness’ and ‘human rights’ is beyond compare, and no contemporary leader can match him in this regard. Observers of Tamil Nadu politics would never forget the humane touch with which he dealt with sandalwood-brigand Veerappan. He was so sincere in serving the ‘Tamil cause’ that he allegedly once said, “I would wholeheartedly welcome the extremism by Tamil extremists if it is for a Tamil cause.” That was how he nurtured LTTE, Veerappan and other Tamil extremist organisations during his past tenures. Being a champion of equality and social justice, he showed the same compassion towards Islamic terrorists too!

Karunanidhi’s compassion and humane touch normally reaches its height at the birth anniversary of his mentor Annadurai (15 September); he would order the release of hardcore criminals from various prisons in the state. Since returning to power in May 2006, he has been ordering the release of hundreds of criminals and convicts every year on Annadurai’s birth anniversary (540 life convicts in 2006; 200 in 2007). This it reached its pinnacle last year on Annadurai’s birth centenary, when he ordered the release of 1400 prisoners, including life term convicts.

Though Janata Party President Dr. Subramaniam Swamy moved the Madras High Court against this decision, nothing materialized due to the tardy legal process. The ‘law and order’ scenario in the state deteriorated in direct proportion to the release of criminals and convicts from prison. Most critically, this action has no sanction in the Constitution and violates the Law of the land by interfering with the Judiciary and making a mockery of the judicial process. It is nothing but an insult to democracy.
Beginning of Jihad in Tamil Nadu

When SIMI (Student Islamic Movement of India) was very active in different names in different states throughout the country, ‘Jihad Committee’ founded by Palani Baba and ‘Al Umma’ founded by SA Basha came into being in Tamil Nadu during the previous tenure of the DMK; they started inciting communal riots on a small scale through attacks and killings. The murder of Hindu Munnani leader Rajagopal in October 1994 was one among many such attacks.

As successive Dravidian governments failed to arrest their growth, they indulged in ‘jihad’ clandestinely. They did their major strike at the RSS headquarters in Chennai in November 1993, killing 11 Swayamsevaks when Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK was in power. Until then, the AIADMK also had not realized the huge security threat posed by Islamic terrorism in the state. However, the AIADMK government swung into action immediately and the TN police arrested Al Umma chief SA Basha and 15 others hailing from ‘Kottamedu’ area of Coimbatore.

‘Kottamedu’ has been a rearing ground for Islamic terrorism; it came under permanent police control during the AIADMK regime after the RSS-office blasts. Round-the-clock vigil was maintained and five check-posts set up in Kottamedu, Ukkadam and other Muslim pockets of Coimbatore.
Before moving ahead , just a point.
Round-the-clock vigil is one of the most effective means of keeping the jihadists within their darul Islam. State governments seeking to curb the jihadi menace must allocate resources for the same and not send two constables to "patrol" the area. Once the area becomes a no-go zone, and the police chowki is isolated, it is best to keep the jihad factory within the boundaries of darul Islam and leave the residents of darul harb alone and in peace.

In December 1992 riots in Mumbai, failure to maintain a vigil around areas with history of violence and refusal to keep a 24-7 vigil by armed forces caused the death of constables and PSIs on duty.
DMK’s record against Islamic Terrorism (Before Coimbatore Blasts)

1996 Assembly Elections: DMK candidates CT Dhandapani (MLA) and M Ramanathan (MP) promised the Muslim community that the check posts in their areas would be removed if they were voted to power. Even before formal announcement of DMK victory, as counting of votes indicated trends in favour of the DMK, Muslim youth demolished the check posts; two constables were stabbed in the melee.

December 9, 1997: A cycle bomb exploded in Coimbatore suburb killing three women; Sultan Nazar and Abdul Quayum arrested.

January 10, 1998: A bomb exploded on Anna Flyover near American Embassy in the heart of Chennai city (Ref: http://tnpolice.gov.in/Wanted/Want3.html)
Part 2
Part 3

All three parts deserve to be read in full. It gives info on the various outfits and their ideological bonding which resulted in the formation of the Popular Front of India.

Conclusion :
Karunanidhi’s compassion has added nine more terrorists to this list! When a government itself creates a conducive atmosphere for terror, how can the people expect the intelligence and police forces to function effectively?

The compassionate government has put the state in peril. As a result, people are in a pathetic state; peace is only a pipedream.

Basha of Al Umma and a main conspirator and executor of 1993 Coimbatore serial blasts and who is in jail, sent a letter to those responsible for the movie that the apparent support for physical elimination of terrorists prescribed as the underlying message of the movie (not being a movie fan, I do not know anything about this), was condemnable.

Saw the film by Kamal. Its a remake of the Hindi film "A Wednesday". It just made the point that terrorists dont deserve human rights and deserved to be killed. He also said no one gives a damn about innocents dying but the Human rights people care so much for the treatment of terror suspects. Its worth a watch and is incredibly well made, haven't seen the hindi version, but the tamil version is certainly worth a watch. Its called Unnaipol Oruvan. There is also a telegu version.

Finally the IB speaks on the Ishrat case ( through trusted aide Praveen Swami). Posting in full as entire article deserves to be read:
Javed Sheikh’s journey to death
four weeks after Ishrat Jahan Raza was shot dead by Gujarat police commandos, the Lashkar-e-Taiba proclaimed her a martyr. In an article posted on its website soon after the June 2004 encounter, the organisation expressed anger that “the Lashkar activist’s veil was removed by the Indian police.” Three years later, after Ishrat’s family moved the Gujarat High Court, the Lashkar changed tack: the article was a “journalistic mistake.”

Few believed the retraction — until last month, when Ahmedabad Metropolitan Magistrate K.S. Tamang determined that Javed Sheikh, his associate Ishrat and Pakistani nationals Zeeshan Johar and Amjad Ali Rana were innocents kidnapped and murdered by the police. Early next month, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a plea that the High Court erred in staying Mr. Tamang’s report. The Gujarat police investigators are separately examining whether the killings were an extrajudicial execution. They will traverse a trail of muddy evidence of how, and if, the four met — and drove, or were driven, to their death.

Turbulent life

Born Praneshkumar Pillai at Thamarakulam village in Kerala’s Alappuzha district, Sheikh met and fell in love with Sajida Sheikh in 1986. He converted to Islam in an unsuccessful effort to overcome her family’s resistance to their relationship. In September 1995, the two married and moved to Mumbai’s Mumbra area, but shifted soon to Pune after a business dispute turned violent. Sheikh’s life continued to be turbulent: the police filed four rioting cases against him in 1997 alone.

In 2003, Sheikh left for Dubai, securing a job on a forged Indian Technical Institute certificate. He returned, according to Sajida Sheikh’s testimony, embittered by videotapes he had seen of anti-Muslim violence during the previous year’s pogrom in Gujarat.

On March 29, 2004, he flew to Oman on Passport E6624023, issued in the name of Praneshkumar M. Gopinath Pillai on September 16, 2003. The police later found that the passport was obtained illegally; Sheikh suppressed the fact that he had held another passport, S514800, issued on June 28, 1994 to Mohammad Javed Ghulam Sheikh. Sheikh flew back to Mumbai from Muscat on April 11, 2004 — carrying, says Sajida, Rs. 2.5 lakh in cash. On May 22, 2004, Sheikh paid cash for a second-hand Tata Indica. A friend, Fayyaz Mehboob Khan, signed the purchase papers since Sheikh didn’t have an income-tax identification number.

Earlier, on May 1, 2004, Mumbai college student Ishrat and her mother, Shamima Kausar, met Sheikh at the Taloja Hotel in Mumbra — the first known contact between Ishrat and Sheikh. A common friend, Mohammad Rafiq, says Sheikh told Ms Kausar that he needed a salesgirl for a new perfume store. There is no evidence that Sheikh ran a perfume business. Nor is there evidence, though, that Ishrat was linked to the Lashkar.{ And mommy was wailing on and on about how she didnt know any of the others}

The staff at the Mezban Hotel in Lucknow claim that Sheikh and Ishrat, using the pseudonyms Abdul Rahim and Ishrat Ayesha, shared room 204 on four days in May 2004. Mohammad Wasi, a resident of Ibrahimpur in Faizabad, says the visitors tried to buy weapons from local mafioso Javed Khan. Sheikh, he claimed, said the weapons were needed for the self-defence of Muslims. Dubai-based Ibrahimpur resident Mohammad Mehraj, who allegedly brokered the meeting, has not been located.

On May 30, 2004, Sheikh drove his wife and children to the family home in Alappuzha in car — his last visit. From June 6 to June 9, the family stayed at Sajida Sheikh’s family home in Ahmednagar. Hotel staff at the Tulsi Guest House in Bardoli, on National Highway 6 outside of Surat, said Sheikh and Ishrat checked in after 2 a.m. on June 12, 2004. On June 14, their car developed mechanical trouble. The staff at the Shakti Motor Garage outside Ahmedabad told the police that Sheikh paid Rs. 1,025 for repairs. Hours later, all four occupants of the car were dead.
Dubai connection

For reasons that aren’t clear, the one Indian national who could help establish if Sheikh was in fact recruited by the Lashkar in Dubai has never been fully investigated. Mohammad Abdul Razzak, held by the Delhi police in August 2005, told investigators he had sent Sheikh to jihad training camps run by the Lashkar military chief Muzammil Bhat — architect of the November 2008 attack on Mumbai.

Son of veteran Jamaat-e-Islami activist Mohammad Abdul Sattar, Razzak joined the Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing. As a 19-year-old, after the 1993 communal riots in Hyderabad, he participated in self-defence camps organised by the right-wing Darsgah Jihad-o-Shahadat. Late that year, Razzak is said to have told investigators that he met with Mohammad Azam Ghauri, one of the co-founders of the Lashkar’s Indian operations.

Inspired, Razzak spent seven months of 1998 training with the Harkat ul-Mujahideen and the Lashkar in Jammu and Kashmir. In January 2000, he travelled to the United Arab Emirates and made contact with the local Lashkar office. Helped by his Lashkar contacts, Razzak allegedly travelled to Lahore on a fake passport. He first trained at a Lashkar facility at Bahawalpur and was then despatched to a camp near Muzaffarabad.

Early in 2002, after a stint running supplies from Kasmani to Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan, Razzak went back to Dubai. During his interrogation by the Delhi Police, Razzak named 10 Dubai-based Indian volunteers he had sent to Lashkar camps. Javed Sheikh’s name was on the list.

Kashmir link

It wasn’t until early in the summer of 2004 that Sheikh’s name showed up on the radar of India’s intelligence services. First Information Report 8 of 2004, filed by the Ahmedabad Police Crime Branch after the shootout, records that the authorities knew of the imminent arrival of Sheikh’s blue Tata Indica, down to its licence-plate number, MH02 JA4786. The police in Jammu and Kashmir set off the chain of events that led to their Ahmedabad counterparts receiving the information.

Between June 25 and June 28, 2004 — just days after the shootout in Ahmedabad — the J&K police arrested 18 Lashkar operatives, including division commander Shahid Masood. In February 2004, the J&K police had shot dead Poonch-based Lashkar terrorist Ehsan Illahi. On his body, they found a letter written by Haji Sadiq Ahmad, a Jammu resident held in connection with the Lashkar-facilitated death of the former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya, assassinated in reprisal for his role in the 2002 killings. The letter identified an Ahmedabad-based lawyer as a sympathiser, and asked for funds to be made available for Ahmad’s defence.{ Who could this person be? Any idea, BRFites}

During the Intelligence Bureau-led surveillance operation that followed, the sources said, investigators stumbled on the Lashkar’s efforts to use Sheikh to target Gujarat. The lawyer was used to lure Sheikh to Ahmedabad. On the morning of June 11, Sajida Sheikh said, her husband called to say he had to go to Mumbai on unexpected work, and would return in a day.

As Sheikh did not arrive on June 13, she called — only to receive messages that his cellphone was out of network reach. Sheikh’s SIM card was later found in the boot of his car — evidence, in Mr. Tamang’s view, that he was kidnapped by the police some time after June 12 and killed.

Gujarat police investigators insist that the cellphone was likely disabled after Sheikh met Johar and Rana — though they have been unable to establish just when and where the group finally joined up.

Four men who may be able to help answer the question are fugitives.

Majid Husain Qadri, Pervez Ahmad Khan, both residents of Srinagar; and Drugmulla resident Abdul Aziz Shah were held along with other Lashkar operatives arrested in June 2004. Investigators say the three men provided emergency aid to Rana, who was shot while crossing the Line of Control. But when the Gujarat police sought their custody, the charges against them were dropped and the men released. :-?
The Gujarat police made several attempts to arrest the men — the last attempt was just three months ago. Each time, their J&K counterparts said the suspects could not be traced.{ Something tells me these 3 have been turned over and hence, the reluctance to hand them over since they might be needed for future ops, atleast i hope so}

Treated in Delhi

Investigators say the three men had Johar treated in New Delhi, at the City Clinic in Paharganj. Siddharth Sahai, who performed surgery on Rana, identified him when the police showed him photographs. They also say Rana probably carried the satellite phone, assault rifle and explosives found in the car from J&K to Gujarat. Mohammad Iqbal, a Poonch resident alleged by the police to have been working for Masood, later said he escorted Johar to the Jammu railway station. But there is no hard information on exactly when Johar and Rana met with Sheikh and Ishrat.

Filling in this gap — and many others — could help to resolve the questions on just what happened in the weeks, days and hours before Sheikh and Ishrat were killed. Forensics could hold the key to the truth. Mr. Tamang noted that hand-wash tests conducted on Rana did not support claims of the police that he opened fire on them — but the Gujarat authorities say the magistrate ignored an earlier positive test conducted on-site. Mr. Tamang also held that 7.62-millimetre bullets found on the person of the victims were fired from a Kalashnikov AK 56 rifle found in the car — a claim the police dispute, arguing that their officially-issued AK 47 weapons use the same ammunition.

Exhuming the truth about what happened in Ahmedabad will need a transparent and thoroughgoing investigation — a process that India’s judiciary must ensure.

Love Jihad' racket: VHP, Christian groups find common cause
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 'Love Jihad', a religious conversion racket which lures gullible girls by feigning love, has brought rivals Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Christian groups in Kerala together.

The two have decided to join hands to combat the ‘‘social evil’’, which they claim is hitting their respective communities hard.

‘Both Hindu and Christian girls are falling prey to the design. So we are cooperating with the VHP on tackling this. We will work together to whatever extent possible,’’ K S Samson, an office-bearer of Kochi-based Christian Association for Social Action (CASA), a voluntary Christian association, told TOI.

Samson said some days ago, CASA got to know about a Hindu family in a Christian parish where a school going girl was the victim. ‘‘We immediately referred it to the VHP,’’ he said, adding the saffron outfit has helped them in many cases.

The Parishad on its part has started a ‘Hindu Helpline’, which claims to have received as many as 1,500 calls in last three months.

‘‘Many of these callers wanted to congratulate us for our efforts and some were threats,’’ said Vineesh, who manages the helpline.

The Kerala Catholic Bishops Council has come out with a set of guidelines for Christian parents warning them to be more careful about their wards.

‘‘It’s shocking but it is happening. Many Christian families are getting affected,’’ said Father Johny Kochuparambil, secretary of Council’s Commission for Social Harmony and Vigilance.

‘‘We are careful as this is a sensitive issue and could even lead to a religious conflict. But now that the Kerala high court too has interfered in the matter, we have decided to take a stand,’’ said Kochuparambil.

The high court has asked the DGP to probe the charges and report to it.
Although the Times of India mentions the issue, it carries a "Bomb blast heard in Peshawar" type of report. Since the article does not explain who carries out this, what are the groups involved, the "safe houses" where indoctrination is done, one can safely assume it is the peaceful Buddhists carrying it out .

From Pioneer newspaper:

Kerala - Catholic Church launches drive against ‘love jihad’
VR Jayaraj | Kochi

The Catholic Church in Kerala has launched a campaign to withstand the efforts of ‘love jihadis’, groups allegedly specialising in converting girls of other religions into Islam through coercion after trapping them in love affairs.

With this, the police authorities are worried that the situation could even lead to law and order problems if believers begin adopt confrontation strategies in the name of withstanding ‘love jihad’.

The Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Conference (KCBC), the umbrella organisation of all the bishops of the Catholic rites of Kerala, has started awareness campaigns to teach Christian girls and parents about the dangers of the “holy war of love” by certain Islamic groups. The council asks the parents to be on the alert at all times about the responses of their daughters, so that the danger of their falling into the Love Jehad trap could be avoided.

The KCBC sprang into action against the ‘love jihadis’ as one of the two girls of a Pathanamthitta who were forcibly converted into Islam through the trap of love by two Muslim youths actually was a Christian. Also, there were reports of even Christian housewives with children being converted into Islam through rites held at Ponnani in the Muslim-majority Malappuram district.

The KCBC says there should have been a well-planned programme behind the 4,500-odd conversions of girls into Islam through love marriages in Kerala since 2005. The council says that ‘love jihadis’ had started to implement their love-conversion programme in Mangalore, Karnataka.

It says that several girls from Christian-concentrated areas of Kerala had become victims of the ‘love jihad’ in this manner. As all these girls were over 18, the parents were unable to question their decision legally, the article points out. It says that most of the girls converted into Islam could have ended up in Muslim orphanages and in the dens of extremists who used them for fulfillment of their carnal desires.

Information about the campaign for planned conversion into Islam through love had come out in the open after the case of two girls, MBA students at a Pathanamthitta college, came up in the Kerala High Court. The case was that Sirajuddeen and Shahehshah, activists of Campus Front, the students’ wing of NDF, had forced the girls to convert into Islam in the name of marriage. The girls claimed that the duo had tried to convert them into Islam after kidnapping them.

The Kerala High Court also directed the Union Home Department to investigate whether such outfits were operating nationally.

Two crore illegal Bangla migrants, 600 deported last year: states report

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/two-c ... t/524777/0
Estimates sent by the state governments have given an official number to what has been known informally for a very long time — that illegal migrants from Bangladesh now comprise at least two per cent of India’s population.

According to “very conservative estimates” of the state governments, the total number of Bangladeshi citizens residing in India without proper documents or permits would be in excess of 2 crore, government sources have told The Sunday Express.

According to these figures, not more than 600 Bangladeshi migrants had been deported to their country in the last one year and the possibility of many of them finding their way back isn’t being ruled out.

Migrants from Bangladesh now live in every part of the country. Besides West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and other North-Eastern states — the known places where these illegal migrants have been able to settle down — Maharashtra, Delhi, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka are new regions having large concentrations of Bangladeshi citizens. Sources said these were also areas witnessing rapid urbanization and development, and therefore, offering job opportunities to these migrants.

Though it had asked for the data from the states, the Centre was still undecided on what use to put this data to.
The two percent though a conservative figure, does not highlight that apart from being a security risk, Bangladeshis live in clusters. Inside their slum complexes, they make up for a large percentage of the population. And hence, they can easily tilt the results of smaller assembly constituencies by voting en masse which they obviously do.

Will people who agree with the report which states no AK-56 ammunition was found but only AK-47 ammunition agree to stand before a AK-56 filled AK-47 ammunition allow it to be fired?

India a terribly soft state: US experts

NEW DELHI: India will be vulnerable to more terrorist attacks along the lines of Mumbai, terrorism analyst Brian Jenkins from RAND and Ashley Tellis have told the US Senate’s committee on homeland security.

“India will continue to face a serious jihadi terrorist threat from Pakistan-based terrorist groups. However, India lacks military options that have strategic-level effects without a significant risk of a military response by Pakistan. Neither Indian nor US policy is likely to be able to reduce that threat significantly in the short to medium term,” they said.

Tellis said, “LeT represents a threat to regional and global security second only to al-Qaida. Although LeT is linked in popular perceptions mainly to the terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir, the operations and ideology of this group transcend the violence directed at India.” He cautioned that US should work with India to deal with terrorism from Pakistan, otherwise India would be tempted to take steps that could endanger regional security.

“To the chagrin of its citizens, India has also turned out to be a terribly soft state neither able to prevent many of the terrorist acts that have confronted it over the years nor capable of retaliating effectively against either its terrorist adversaries or their state sponsors in Pakistan,” the two experts said. Jenkins added that the poor quality of India’s response to the terror attacks, intelligence failure and inadequate counter-terrorist training and equipment added to India’s misery.

Well if you don't want soft state, don't choose soft leaders such as MMS, Gujaral, Sonia Gandhi ... If you choose soft "puppi-jhappi" leaders, you will get a weak and grovelling state unable to hit back at anyone.

ED asks IB to probe Jain's Pak links
13 Oct 2009, 2026 hrs IST
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday (October 13) has asked the Intelligence Bureau (IB) to probe hawala operator Naresh Jain's link to Pakistan. IB will probe Jain's communication across the border through Voice Over Internet Protocol. According to ED officials, he came to Delhi from Dubai six months ago because of the growing interest of the US and other countries in his activities. Jain was on the radar of US and other countries since a sting operation codenamed “Operation Khyber Pass” conducted by Italian police and US’ Drug Enforcement Agency about six months ago.

The ED has admitted to incriminating documents showing foreign bank accounts, investments and hawala deals of over Rs 1,000 crore being recovered from Jain. Jain is wanted by the US Homeland Security and Serious Organised Crime Agency of Germany. His operations are believed to be spread over Nigeria, Italy, Afghanistan, China and Pakistan among many other countries. Jain, who has been booked under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, was earlier arrested by Dubai police along with his six associates in 2007 as part of their crackdown on money launderers. The arrest was affected after inputs from the US and UK’s Serious Organized Crime Agency warned that Jain was involved in laundering drug money for various terror groups including al-Qaida and Taliban.

Jain’s connections with some leading Indian politicians and industrialists, for whom he was allegedly laundering money out of Dubai, and his links with the D-company were apparently some of the factors that had led to his arrest along with six other Indians. Dubai cops had seized bank accounts of 21 expatriates after they were found allegedly involved in laundering money to Italy and the UK. Jain was said to be on the radar of US intelligence agencies ever since he was spotted at the marriage of Dawood’s daughter in Dubai in 2005. He had allegedly been using his hawala network spanning across continents to facilitate financial transactions of Dawood’s narcotics trade.

Corrupt Indian babus exposed in US
A US report has blown the cover off American companies bribing 'Babus' in India.

In the report, various US companies have admitted giving money to Indian officials in exchange for favours. While all the companies have already been penalised for their actions in the US, nothing has been done against Indian government employees who pocketed the cash.

Indian Ambassador to the US Meera Shankar has sent a letter to the Prime Minister's
Principal Secretary T K A Nair, which said states prominent Indian organisations that received funds. The organisations named are Maharashtra State Electricity Board (which got payments from Mario Covino of Control Companies), Indian Railways (by Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation) and Central Insecticides Board (by Dow Chemicals).

Sources in the PMO said that the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has been ordered to look into the matter. The DoPT has also been asked to co-ordinate with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Reacting to Meera Shankar's letter, External Affairs Minsiter SM Krishna said, "Meera Shankar has filed a report as our ambassadors often do. We will look in to the matter."

Meera Shankar has also cited a bribe of 61-Lakhs to Indian Navy officials by an agent of York International Corporation. The global provider of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration products has admitted to the transaction. The money was transferred over a period of six years between 2000 and 2006 for placing over two hundred orders.

The sources in the India Navy however denies any information on Meera's letter.

High placed sources in the Navy told TIMES NOW, "The Navy was not informed about the letter. The navy got to know about it today from the newspapers. We are waiting for an official memorandum from the government and then, we will begin our internal investigations. Upto today, there has not been any intimation from either the government or the Central Bureau of Investigation."

The Mumbai based DE- Nocil Protection - a subsidiary of Dow Cemicals has admitted to paying about a crore to an official in India's Central Insecticides Board to expedite the registration of three of its products.

The Maharashtra State Electricity board has also allegedly received over four crores in bribes. Mario Covino - an American firm which makes valves has also admitted to the pay-offs.

Indian Railway Employees are also under the scanner. Pioneer Friction Limited has also admitted to making payments of 63-lakh rupees.

PMO: Corrupt babus being probed
The government on Tuesday (October 13) said that a probe has been ordered into the corruption charges against the bureaucrats after Indian envoy to US sain in the letter that they were bribed by US firms.

Sources in the Prime Minister's Office said the letter of Indian Ambassador to the US Meera Shankar, dated May 12, reached the office when the country was in the midst of Lok Sabha polls.

"As soon as the government settled down, a probe was ordered," the sources said, adding "everything in the case is being looked into."

According to Shankar's letter to the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary T K A Nair, prominent Indian organisations which received funds include Maharashtra State Electricity Board (which got payments from Mario Covino of Control Companies), Indian Railways (by Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation) and Central Insecticides Board (by Dow Chemicals).

The US companies have been booked under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of the US, according to the letter.

BJP yesterday released the Ambassador's letter and questioned the government's silence on the matter saying it "amounts to shielding the corrupt. This means the government does only pep talk on the issue of corruption."

Expressing concern over the development, CPI(M) today asked the government to take firm action against persons who allegedly took bribes and blacklist all US firms involved in it.

Javed Sheikh’s journey to death ---- Praveen Swami
long interesting read as usual.
excerpt

He has used the word "pogrom" for the Gujarat riots. Is he a certified jholawala? This is a trick that only the jholawalas play (while calling 1984 pogrom against the Sikhs as merely "riots"). These people are given away by the words they use.

Security agencies put terrorists on notice
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Panic prevailed in the State on Tuesday after the police and other security agencies beefed up security to conduct a mock drill

A gang of terrorists had entered the state through the sea and were holding a group of people hostage in an important building. This was the story line for the mock drill carried out jointly by the Police, Coast Guard, Navy and Intelligence Bureau in the wake of the Mumbai terror strike.

However, the drill, code-named Triton, turned out a bit of a farce as the police had enough time to conduct several rehearsals before the actual drill. The drill was conducted in the coastal districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam. In many places the police, as well as members of the recently formed Theeradesa Jagratha Samithis, were informed earlier about the drill. In Thiruvananthapuram the police stations along the coastal area made necessary arrangements on Monday itself for the drill. Members of the Theeradesa Jagratha Samathis also received enough time to prepare themselves and hence the intrusion of the mock team of terrorists was easily prevented.

The drill did create some confusion in Neendakara after a team that managed to reach the coast with the help of a fishing boat was intercepted by the Coastal Police in the wee hours of Tuesday. Suddenly the news that a gang of terrorists had entered the state spread.

"The very purpose of conducting mock drills is to test the preparedness of the security agencies to face emergency situations. So there is not much use in informing the cops in advance about the exercise," said a police officer.

ADGP Intelligence Siby Mathews, who holds the charge of DGP, clarified that mock drills are always conducted after two or three rounds of coordination meetings. The force is alerted, but the exact picture is not given in advance, he said. The drill was coordinated by the Navy and the effectiveness of the drill will be evaluated in the coming days, he said.

Israeli travel advisory says India under terror threat

Jerusalem, Oct. 16 (ANI): Israel has issued a new travel advisory asking its citizens to be wary about travelling to India.

The warning issued by the country’s Counter-Terrorism Bureau states that there is a concrete terror threat at places frequented by Israelis, specifically the Chabad houses and synagogues across the country.

According to the Jerusalem Post, the warning comes in the wake of new intelligence received by Israeli officials indicating that a Global Jihad group had teamed up with the Pakistani terror cell responsible for the 2008 Mumbai massacre for a fresh attack.

In September, a similar warning had said that a Pakistani terror organization affiliated with al-Qaida was planning to carry out a string of attacks throughout the Indian subcontinent. (ANI)
