Irrespective of Israeli warning, some MHA babus are suspecting attack(s)
in religious areas with mixed populations. This now fits perfectly well with
pak's desire to divert attention by creating a communal riot in India. That's
why some temples (not sure how many) are under strict order to keep watch
on suspicious elements. Temple authorities are given strict orders to be
careful about giving info to unknown persons, etc. But in an ocean of humanity,
that is India, it is a miracle that major unpleasant things don't happen everyday.
Searching every "devotee" is not possible, but I wish random frisking should be
in place, especially if the "devotee" is trying to look away from the security
personnel while entering a temple.

Not suprisingly, it is happening already.
Dead body found in front of temple near Madurai - Tamil Nadu
For those who dont read Tamil, the anonymous dead body had intestine around its neck like a garland and was dropped in front of the temple around midnight. Based on visual observation, the corpse was 2-3 days old and was stored in icebox for that period. It does not look like one off incident.

According to reports, an explosion occurred at Grace Church in Margao, Goa on Friday evening. The explosion reportedly happened on a motorcycle, in which two people were seriously injured.

Speaking about the incident, Goa DIG said, "We have heard reports of a blast, but its nature is not known."

J&K Cricketer caught in Bangalore stadium with explosives
A cricketer from Kashmir has been arrested from Chinnaswamy stadium here after explosives were found in his bag, TV reports say.

A local tip-off helped police nab Parvez, the J&K player, who was taking the explosive material to the stadium, police said.

According to Times Now, Parvez had come to participate in the CK Naidu Trophy tournament.

J&K Cricket Association told Times Now that the player’s record is ‘clean’ and that he is ‘innocent’.

Cricketer freed, terror scare at Bangalore stadium
Pervez Rasool, a member of the J-K under-22 team for the CK Naydu Trophy, was detained from a room at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after bomb detectors allegedly “pointed” to his bag.

"When the police entered the room, the instruments pointed towards a bag but no explosives were found in it. Even then, as a measure of precaution, we have taken the person possessing the bag into custody. His antecedents are being verified from the Jammu and Kashmir police," Bangalore police commissioner Shanker Bidari told reporters.
J&K cricketer detained in Bangalore after RDX traces found in his kit bag
A Jammu and Kashmir cricketer was on Saturday detained by the city police after explosive detectors found traces of RDX in his kit bag.

He was later released for lack of "evidence", said Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari.

Pervez Rassol, an under-22 CK Nayudu cricket tournament, was staying at the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) complex in the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Police sources said the young cricketer was being questioned to find out if he had brought RDX in the city or
his bag was earlier used to transfer the explosive.

Sources said the state police have already sent a request to its counterparts in Jammu and Kashmir to do a background
check on the cricketer.

Goa blast heat on Hindu outfit, five activists detained
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city ... 135145.cms

TNN 18 October 2009, 02:28am IST

MARGAO: Five Hindu activists were detained on Saturday with Goa police, investigating the blast in Margao on Friday night, claiming strong signs of complicity of Sanatan Sanstha, a right-wing Hindu organisation, in the crime. Police claimed further damage was prevented as they managed to defuse three other explosive devices.

Meanwhile, Malgonda Patil succumbed to the injuries he received in Friday’s blast. The other injured, Yogesh Naik is critical and battling for life at the Goa medical college and hospital. Police have registered cases under sections 121, 122, 123 of IPC and Section 4 & 5 of explosive substances act against both, members of the Sanatan Sanstha, said DIG R S Yadav. "Four bombs were planted, of which one exploded and two were defused in Margao and another near the Shantadurga temple at Sancoale on Friday night itself in Vasco, about 20 km from Margao.

The materials used for the IEDs were similar and comprised of gelatin sticks to which small clocks and plastic boxes with circuits were attached. "Investigations have revealed that the bag containing one of the IEDs was placed in the scooter, which went off while the scooter was being parked. The involvement of the two persons who were critically injured in the blasts in carrying out the explosions has been established," said R S Yadav.

"We are questioning almost all the Sanatan Sanstha members as the duo belonged to the group," said SP Atmaram Deshpande, SP and PRO of Goa police. Police sources said five persons associated with Sanatan Sanstha, including Yogesh Naik’s brother Suresh and a certain Sandeep Shinde from Pune, were being interrogated. A team of the Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad has reached Goa for investigations. The Sanatan Sanstha is linked to the Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur (as reported by TOI on Friday).

The Margao blast was a part of a "larger conspiracy to endanger law and order situation in the state on the occasion of Narkasur effigy burning competitions held at various places across the state", said Yadav.
The police resumed its search on the premises of Sanatan Sanstha’s ashram at Ramnathi, Ponda, on Saturday and are learnt to have found some incriminating substances. "The raids started at 9 am and ended at 2.30 pm.

Altogether 30 rooms were searched and we have found some suspicious items like watches and some other electronic items. There were some 167 inmates, including some foreigners, residing at the ashram without any valid identity documents in violation of the law," a senior police official said. Sources said the Maharashtra police also conducted similar raids at the Sanatan’s Sangli and Miraj offices.

If indeed it is proved that they are spreading terror, funding being immaterial, should they not also be banned?

Ban their backsides, like, forever.

I suspect that many of us, to be and to be seen as neutral and secular, have no choice but to come down especially hard on these idiots. Defaming the name of Sanatanam, on top of it.

Would be nice if the nationalists/rationalists/moralists and spiritualists among minority communities also come down especially hard on the terrorists in their midst.

Just banning is not enough. Need to go deep into unraveling their funding and support.

It would not be surprising if Maoists and SIMI and these fellows are all ultimately being from the same source, albeit through different routes.

As per press reports at the time of the Purohit incident, there was mention of foreign support at one of their meetings. Don't have a link right now.

Where did you get the idea that I'm advocating more blasts?

Purohit foreign funded?

Any news report or link?

Each organisation which is indulging in these activities or have a whiff of doubt should be banned and the chaps shoved in jail.

OK, here is a link: http://www.indianexpress.com/news/puroh ... y/412947/0

They were talking about government in exile and safe houses in Israel. It certainly doesn't amount to proof of foreign funding, but then, as it is said, only the paranoid survive! So better investigate all possible angles.

US plane grounded at Mumbai airport
MUMBAI: A US aircraft with 205 American marine commandos on board was on Sunday made to land at Mumbai airport for allegedly violating the Indian airspace.

The chartered plane was on its way from Fujiriah in UAE to Bangkok, an airport official said. The aircraft was using a civilian call sign, officials said.

"A US aircraft with 205 US Marines on board, on its way from Fujiriah to Bangkok, was forced to land in Mumbai while overflying Indian airspace as there was some confusion about its call sign," a Mumbai airport spokesperson said.

The aircraft landed at Mumbai airport on Sunday morning and has been parked at a remote bay, the spokesperson said adding, all passengers are on board. Indian Air Force is looking into the issue, the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, US authorities said they were in touch with relevant officials to resolve the issue after a US chartered aircraft was forced to land at Mumbai airport for alleged violation of the Indian airspace.

"We are aware of the situation, and are in touch with relevant officials to resolve this issue, which is a routine matter," a US embassy spokesperson said.

Given that the EJs are behind the Maoists, is it possible that some the marines/arms were to be prolly airdropped into the Maoist zones esp. what with the govt. offensive taking shape? Also, isn't there an increasing trend in the past year of transport aircrafts violating Indian airspace while carrying military men/cargo?

that's too far-fetched. this would be nothing sort of open declaration of war against India.
besides, there are much easier ways to send in advisers if they want to do it.

You have hit the nail on the head and understood correctly what is happening in jungles of Central India and who is organising flow of Rs one thousand crores every month to Chattisgarh, Vidharbha, Orrissa, Jharkhand and Andhra for "charity" in tribal areas. What a happy coincidence that these exact tribal areas have become a den of Maoists with proper military tactics.

CIA involvement with religious groups not a new charge

Missionary: possible
Church and state clashed in Capitol Hill hearings this summer over an unusual topic: espionage.

The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence heard testimony on the use of missionaries and journalists as spies; the National Association of Evangelicals had raised the issue at its annual convention last February. The association's 49 member denominations and mission agencies were surprised to learn then that a loophole provision going back 20 years allowed the director of the CIA to use missionaries and clergy as spies under certain circumstances.

An intense campaign by religious groups in 1977 led to a government ruling that prohibited CIA activity "with any U.S. clergy or missionary, whether or not ordained, who is sent out by a mission or church organization to preach, teach, heal, or proselytize." But CIA director John Deutch raised fresh concern when he announced early this year that the rule could be waived in the event of "unique and special threats to national security."

The Niyogi Committee report had predicted this long ago and warned Nehru to get the misisonaries out of tribal areas or they will start an anti-India insurgency among tribals for secession. Chacha jee threw the report in the bin because he was secular.

Here is the Niyogi committee report. Read it if you have time.

Haven't they sent in enough of those already? May be this time its a bit less covert. Somehow all these unauthorized overflights with arms/soldiers or board don't portend towards any good.

I agree. I guess my question is, is there any way of knowing if there has been a recent increase in the frequency of these 'unauthorised' flights, or if GOI has just chosen to be a little more assertive - perhaps to send some message(s) out.

I mean, the common refrain appears to be that we are too enmeshed in the US camp, and we just detained 200 of their mighty/glorious sons on their way to holiday (in Bangkok, no less) to check what amounts to be some paper-work for a nice stretch of 7 hours...

That much cheek..:)

I doubt if the marines were allowed to go sight-seeing in Bombay - hopefully, they got some chai and samosa while the chai-biscuit was happening..

The latter is unlikely as long as MMS is in power, he would bend over backwards to please massa, so most likely we are seeing increased overflights, esp. over regions that are affected by naxals & other assorted terrorists.

Ah.., so are you implying that you have some evidence that there has actually been an increase in the frequency of such flights ? Is there any open-source info on that you could link to or point me to?

Or is it just your opinion, based on your perception of the incumbent government and the masses of who you (as your post implies) are treacherous, perfidious bureaucrats who will not think twice before bending over?

Mohammed Abdul Razzak, Indian LeT operative
Perhaps fearing for his family, Razzak refused to undertake operations within India, arguing that the priority of the jihadist movement ought to be attacking the U.S.

He did agree, though, to recruit Indian nationals in the UAE for the organisation. During his interrogation by the Delhi police, Razzak named 10 volunteers from Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh who had made their way to camps in Pakistan. Among them was Javed Sheikh. He was controversially killed by the Gujarat police in an 2004 shootout in Ahmedabad.
I don't understand where is the controversy in killing Javed Sheikh and his associates because there is multiple corroborative evidence.

The Telegraph, Kolkata, Oct 19, 2009
Look who have been ‘grounded’
OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

The North American Airlines plane at Mumbai airport on Sunday. (AFP)
Mumbai, Oct. 18: The Marines have landed — er, been made to land — on the shores of Mumbai.

A Boeing carrying the world’s most storied fighting force was asked to land at Mumbai airport by the Indian Air Force (IAF) today after it emerged that the plane did not have permission to ferry troops over the country.

The plane, belonging to North American Airlines, had been chartered by the US Navy to carry 205 passengers, including some Marines, from Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Utapao in Bangkok.

The plane, sources in Mumbai air traffic control said, had a civilian call sign from the directorate-general of civil aviation but did not have the mandatory air operation routing clearance from the IAF.

The routing clearance — AOR in aviation parlance — has to be procured by every foreign plane flying through Indian airspace with military equipment or personnel.

“To top that, some Marines on board were also carrying submachine guns and Glock pistols,” said a CISF officer who had inspected the plane. A source in the US consulate in Mumbai said: “The necessary clearance may have been overlooked inadvertently by the plane as the Marines were going on a holiday to Bangkok.”

The US military central command has a programme called R&R (rest and recuperation) meant for both civilians and combat personnel attached to the defence department. The consulate source added that there was nothing unusual about the presence of weapons as the Marines usually carry light arms even on R&R trips.

Soon after the plane was made to land at 7.52am, diplomatic levers started moving. The plane was eventually cleared for take-off around 2.30pm by the IAF and the civil aviation authority.

“We are pleased that we were able to resolve this procedural matter in an expeditious fashion and appreciate the assistance and co-operation of the Indian authorities,” the US consulate said.

However, the flight could not leave today because of the pilots’ flight duty time limitations. Sources said the plane was expected to leave tomorrow.

Till then, the Marines will stay in a five-star hotel, for which necessary papers have been cleared. “The boys will be put up at the hotel and will do a bit of sightseeing before leaving Mumbai tomorrow,” the consulate source said.

However, an IAF source said the departure had also been delayed because Myanmar — the plane will enter that country’s flight information range while flying to Bangkok — has sought clarifications related to clearances.

It is not every day that the IAF gets a chance to “ground” a force whose arrival has launched countless stories of heroism — some blown out of proportion — and the phrase “the Marines have landed and have the situation well in hand”.

“The exchange between the IAF and the foreign pilot was polite,” said a source, joking that the air force by now must have honed its skills on the subject, considering the frequency with which it has been intercepting such flights.

This is the third foreign plane to be made to land by the IAF in India since June for want of mandatory clearance for carrying arms or soldiers.

Calcutta, too, had to play host to an arms plane bound for China after it was found that the aircraft did not have the requisite papers.

One of the member of this group was killed when the explosive he went to plant exploded prematurely. So it's very clear from his death that this group was behind the blast.

People who plant bombs are waging war against the nation and deserve no sympathy.

Claiming this group was funded from "outside" only tries to deflect attention from it's sinister agenda. So please dont try to spin this in that direction. One doesn't need foreign funding to purchase locally made gelatin sticks used for mining and use them for bomb blasts.

Police need to arrest all those person involved in this conspiracy. And either saner members of this group come forward and vow to cleanse their group, or this group should be banned and it's all members kept on the police watch-list.

SSridhar, but when you have a judical report and media who only Highlight Ishrat Jehan, say the Gujarat police only killed her since she was a muslim from Mumbai 10 to 15 days before the Maharastra elections, you get the idea of the controvery.

I am sure like the judical probe of Justice Baneerjee, nobody is going to give it Media coverage and examine it in line with the evidence is presented in Court which raises serious questions regarding such judical probes.

Ask yourself who benefits from keeping the Indian minorities in a constant state of fear and feeling of discrimination.

Avinash R -> I agree anyone who uses, bombs, beheading or guns to kill innocents on thier own is equal before the law of the land and must be treated as such.

My only question is what are these buffons trying to achive by brutelly killing people. In case of Pak based attacks, thier aim is clear. In the case of Maoists, we more or less get the idea they are aiming at. With these what do they aim to achive through Malegoan and Goa blasts. We need to understand that, who provides funding, training on weaponary and tackle them also.

Sometimes there are things that are more important than the hare-brained ideas of useful idiots. Any foreign involvement would definitely be in that category. Often, foreign supporters are not so hare-brained, and have a method to their madness.

I wonder if this is another front in trying to get the majority to turn on its own interests per kgoans N-thread theory. Division of India can also be accomplished if a significant percentage of the majority starts to feel hard done by in any way.

Rhino killers shot after Assam hunt
A STAFF REPORTER

http://www.telegraphindia.com/1091019/j ... 630126.jsp

Guwahati, Oct. 18: Two poachers were shot dead in a fierce gun battle inside Assam’s Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park last night but not before they had killed a female rhino and chopped off its horn.

This was the sixth rhino killed this year at the 78.81sqkm park spread over Sonitpur and Darrang districts.

The horn was later recovered from a bag found on one of the slain poachers, Harmoj Ali, a dreaded local criminal who was involved in killing rhinos earlier at Orang and at Kaziranga National Park. The other poacher shot dead is yet to be identified.
.
.
.
Ali, the slain poacher, had been arrested several times under the wildlife act and the Arms Act, the official said. On June 28, he was involved in the killing of a female rhino at Orang. He was arrested the following day from a Dimapur-bound bus along with Pawkhan Thorang, a sharpshooter from Manipur.

During a raid on Ali’s residence soon after, a US-made pistol, a 12-bore rifle and ammunition were recovered. He, however, jumped bail.

I don't understand where is the controversy in killing Javed Sheikh and his associates because there is multiple corroborative evidence.
Sir, we are peace loving, Law abiding (even if it it kills us) people who will ensure chai biskoot to even the most anti-national person (like Afzal and Kasab will testify)..

Or is it just your opinion, based on your perception of the incumbent government and the masses of who you (as your post implies) are treacherous, perfidious bureaucrats who will not think twice before bending over?

Thanks

3 incidents in the recent past: this one with marines on board flying to bangkok, which would prolly mean that they would fly over large parts of the red corridor, then the plane from UAE to china which was detained at Kolkata as it had not declared that it was carrying weapons and then an even earlier flight from diego garcia to af'stan which was forced to land in Mumbai, again with arms(?) on board. All of these have happened in the past few months esp. as the govt has made some noises about naxals.
If I were you, I would not disregard these as random incidents. Do remember the Purulia arms drop before dismissing these unauthorized overflights.

As for the UPA-2, they are a bunch of traitors. Period. Every act of theirs has been towards damaging India's strategic interests. Be it the sell out of a nuke deal, the covering up of Pok-2 tests, the sell out at S-e-S, the sell out post 26/11, the acquiesing to China over border incursions, Tibet, Dalai Lama and god knows what else & not to forget to forthcoming sell out by MMS on NPT, CTBT. No act of theirs can ever been in national interests. Period.

DMK’s Raja in a fresh Telecom controversy
Tue, 2009-10-20 13:30 — editor

By M Rama Rao, India Editor, Asian Tribune
New Delhi, 20 October (Asiantribune.com):

Telecom Minister A Raja of DMK
The Indian Government’s go ahead to Norway’s giant Telenor to acquire majority stake in a local telecom firm with operations in Tamil Nadu has come under a cloud, it appears.

The Telecom ministry is headed by A Raja of DMK, a close confidant of TN Chief Minister Muthavel Karunanidhi.

Telenor operates also in Pakistan and Bangladesh. And for the past 18 months Telenor plan has been hanging fire with objections raised on security considerations. But on Monday, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) cleared the Telenor proposal to acquire 74 per cent stake in Unitech group of companies which were awarded 2 G spectrum in a public auction last year. Unitech Wireless operates in Tamil Nadu.

‘Chidambaram, Karuna strike Telenor deal’ screamed a headline in a Delhi daily, The Pioneer.

It alleged ‘Under DMK pressure, (Central) Govt gave go-ahead to telco operating in Pak, Bangladesh’. In the face of strong objections from the Home Ministry, Intelligence Bureau and RAW, the Foreign Investment Promotion Board had many times deferred the matter so far but the Home Ministry diluted its objections by placing a `flimsy' clause, the daily reported citing highly placed sources. ‘As per the new clause, Telenor's Pakistan operating company staff and former staff will not be permitted to work in India’.

Norway's Telenor has obtained CCEA clearance through its Singapore-based company, focusing on Asia operations.

According to the Pioneer Telenor clearance came a day after Home Minister P Chidambaram had a long meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in Chennai on Sunday.

The daily quoted DMK leaders, whom it did not identify, as saying that Karunanidhi had taken up the issue with Congress President in December last year itself when he visited Delhi at the head of a multi-party delegation to present the ‘plight’ of Sri Lankan Tamils.

Unitech, a real estate company, entered the telecom business last year when it bagged 2G spectrum allocation for Rs 1651 crore; it offloaded its 60 per cent shares to Telenor for Rs 6120 crore within weeks in mid 2008. Unitech had applied for licenses in several names - Unitech Infrastructure, Unitech Builders and Estates, Aska Projects, Nahan Properties, Hudson Properties, Volga Properties, Adonis Projects and Azare Properties among them, a report said.

These companies were later merged into eight separate entities. One of them is Unitech Wireless (Tamil Nadu).

Second rung RAW officers on protest leave

Tue, Oct 20 06:02 PM

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) The country''s external intelligence gathering agency RAW is in a churning as six of its senior officials have gone gone on leave after they were superseded by an IPS officer who came from the Intelligence Bureau, The six Additional Secretaries continue to be on leave even after Cabinet Secretariat conducted a meeting of Departmental Promotional Committee (DPC) for the officials, who were ranked as Additional Secretaries in the external spy agency, to ascertain if they could be promoted further, sources in Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agency said today. The trouble began when the government cleared A B Mathur, a 1975 batch IPS officer from Manipur cadre, for promotion as Special Director General and posted in RAW as Special Secretary.

Among those who had been superseded were Chakru Sinha, who was of 1973 batch and four officers of 1975 batch of RAW Allied Services (RAS) cadre. RAS cadre officials traditionally have an upper hand over officials from IPS and IAS joining their service.

Any official joining RAW is usually placed at the bottom of the service with no seniority benefit. (more) PTI SKL.

Poojyaniya Pradhan Mantri ji has warned of "imminent" attacks in his latest speech. I wonder what the intel says. I hope there is no security let down because Diwali went relative safely.

Remember that Mumbai happened a couple of months after the "imminent" warnings.
