Maoists release a captured police officer in WB. What's the gun carried by the guerilla at the left? Isn't that a Musket(0.458?) which typically Indian policemen use at guard posts generally.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
The hostage has been given a POW status, how far the Maoists going to take this war?it seems they are making inroads or recruiting cadres in the Urban sectors too, this needs to be dealt with immediately.

As a matter of fact, the old ones look better camouflaged and should serve the purpose better than the orange ones! I'm waiting for the day when a Teesta Setalvad or an Arundhati Roy comes out and complains about 'saffronisation' of armed forces!Avinash R wrote:Note the 2 old SLR.

These days it is Omani. But they obviously do rely on foreigners for training. But if they do have a war, then they will recruit foreigners I think.Lalmohan wrote:do the omanis have their own pilots in sufficient numbers these days? used to be a lot of ex pats before?

Looks like ALH has been extensively used in this exercise. Looks nice in the desert camo!
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
I thought this was a unique pic. Looks like they are cross training with each other's rifles, but the one the american is holding looks like a folding metal-butt INSAS. Something to be expected from MEch InF troops but in the picture above this post I don't see any folding butt INSAS. was it only issued to the unkil jawan or is it commonly used. Anyway.. the look on Lt Bikram is awesome...not fierce but supreme confidence...CAMP BUNDELA, India- (Oct. 15, 2009) – U.S. Army Sgt. John Gentry, team leader, Troop C, 2nd Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment “Strykehorse,” 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, from Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, discusses how the teams will run together for the uphill range with Indian Army Lt. Bikram Jit Singh, platoon commander, C company, 7th mechanized infantry regiment, during range training at Exercise Yudh Abyas 09, a bilateral exercise involving the Armies of India and the United States.

they still recruit ex pats as technicians.

Great- can India possibly get more cliched than a snake charmer? No prizes for guessing what pictures of India Chuck from Alabama will be showing his family and friends!Gagan wrote:The lighter side of the Yudh Abhyas 2009

Snake charmers and elephants?
I am sure that along with the snake charmer was a statutory warning that the cobras are mostly extinct across India and now only to be found in pockets here and there.
Err,
Can't help noticing the respectable distance the 'visitors' keep from the 'beast'.

Rahul I bet some clever clog in the IA "arranged" for a snake charmer to appear because firangis think about snake charmers in India Now wait for the elephant picture and the beggar picture
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Oh, Babina-Jhansi-Gwalior, plenty of unscrupulous people around like sadhu babas who'll drug you and loot your luggage on the trains, to snake charmers and gypsies. They are all present in that area. Also nearby is the legendary Chambal river with its valley.
India's wild wild west.
PS: if you travel by train in this area, you'll really get to see some serious mil hardware. It seems that the bulk of India's fighting forces are concentrated in this region so that they can be moved to any part of the country, apparently this place is equidistant from all of India's borders.

I agree, being gracious host the IA arranged for a snake charmer, I don't think a snake charmer would be allowed to stroll around peddling his craft in Camp Bundela. He was brought there to entertain the guest.shiv wrote:......I bet some clever clog in the IA "arranged" for a snake charmer to appear because firangis think about snake charmers in India Now wait for the elephant picture and the beggar picture

The markings clearly show INDIAN AIRFORCE written on it; must be some goof up, the 107 is an IAF Helicopter unit; "107 Desert Hawks" operating Mi 8 as per BR IAF Squadrons page. And what about the quite: Mi-17 from 107 Army Aviation Helicopter Unit
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
It's good to see every soldier in a new camo but look at their Helmets. Army constantly cries about delays in Artillery etc. but nobody is bothered about basic protective gear like Helmets, BPJ's. Who is stopping them from buying these things ??kancha wrote: Anyone wants to talk about IA Camos after seeing this pic?
So it's not only the goverment IA is lazy too.
Thanks

That land scape is just divinely beautiful. Looks like something right of Mahabratha, sadly over population is ruining U.P.
Does anyone have more panoramic view of the battle field?

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Hi
I have query related to the use of the latest technologically advanced products like LCD's, touchscreen etc. in indian weapons. I mean when we look at the US weapons like armoured vehicles, strykers etc it seems like they make extensive use of LCD's, touchscreens etc. as is clear from some photos of strykers from YA-09 or from what we see in Future Weapons.
What is the percentage of these products in our Tanks, armoured vehicles etc ??
If possible, can anybody please post some interior pics of Arjun, T-90 etc ??
Thanks

It is not upto IA to buy halmets and BPJs. They can only ask.sunny y wrote:It's good to see every soldier in a new camo but look at their Helmets. IMO Arty acquisition problems appear more in news mainly because of their political angle (though it is a serious problem which needs to be fixed urgently).
But just because arty delays gets more media attention does not mean that IA does not ask for other things (including BPJs and helmets).
