Nawaz funding Lal Masjid
Reported in Jinnah Pervez Musharraf said that Nawaz Sharif was funding the reconstruction of Lal Masjid in Islamabad including the illegally occupied properties.
He said that mosques in Islamabad are highly organised with sector-wise policing, which was lava that will one day explode in the capital.
Tiger eats boneless chicken
According to Jang the tiger imported by the son of chief minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif is now living in a monkey’s cage in Murree Park after being refused by the NWFP government.

Mossad and air chief killed Zia
Quoted in Nawa-e-Waqt ex-ISI officer Major (Retd) Amir stated that the Bahawalpur air crash which killed General Zia in 1988 was planned by Mossad and carried out by Pakistan’s air chief Zulfiqar. Mossad agent Akram Awan had disclosed this information to him and told him that Brigadier (Retd) Sadiq Awan was also involved in the plot. Major Amir said Bhutto was his ideal.
Chunian Christians embrace Islam
After a series of attacks in various small towns, nine Christians of a family in Chunian
embraced Islam because of its higher values and message of peace, reported Nawa-e-Waqt. Despite the bad name given it by fanatics,
Islam had great attraction for the Christians of Chunian especially after the attacks. They have started fasting after embracing Islam and
no longer fear blasphemy law.
Ailing intellectuals in our midst
Lyrical columnist Irfan Siddiqi wrote in Jang that sick societies have intellectuals and pen-wielders and sermonisers stricken with the ailment of not describing light as the opening up of the vistas of life; instead they arrange the dark tresses of a night of misfortunes. This fills the heart of the nation with hopelessness and despair. They forget that no evil is without some good and no good can be perfectly achieved.
‘Wukla’ persons strike again!
According to Khabrain Faisalabad sessions court saw a number of lawyers attack the police when it came forward to arrest a person wanted in a case. The wukla persons attacked the police and tore up their uniform.
They caught one Saifur Rehman who was accompanying the police and made a murgha out of him before beating him with shoes.
Zardari and Hashwani
Columnist Hamid Mir wrote in Jang that once during a function he asked President Zardari if Sadruddin Hashwani was truthful in saying that
Zardari wanted to grab his Hotel Marriott in Islamabad. Zardari immediately brought Hashwani on the phone line and made Mir listen to Hashwani who swore that Zardari had made no such move. On this, Mir asked Hashwani why he had run off to Dubai and had to stage the wedding of his daughter outside Pakistan. On this the line was cut.
Minister calls opponent a ‘tawaef’
Writing in Jang Hamid Mir reported that a PPP lady minister (Firdaus Ashiq Awan) while involved in an exchange of hot words with a lady member of PMLQ (Kashmala Tariq) called her tawaef (prostitute). The government was approached with the sifarish to make Kashmala Tariq trade minister. When the PMLQ boss Ch Shujaat heard this he dismissed the lady from his party.
Eid and Qadianis
Quoted in Jinnah ANP leader of the NWFP Ghulam Ahmad Bilour betrayed his party’s narrow-mindedness when he said that those who did observe Eid together with the NWFP were following the Qadianis. He implied that Qadianis did not follow the Islamic way of observing Eid.
He said the right way was to observe Eid with Saudi Arabia. Under law Qadianis cannot observe any Islamic rituals. He later apologised for saying this.
Mufti Munib can get property!
Reported in Jang a group of local leaders in Miranshah in North Waziristan tribal agency stated that chairman of the moon-sighting committee Mufti Munibur Rehman should come to Miranshah every month and see the moon on the first. They said that Mufti Munib will be given the property of all the leaders if he cannot see the moon of the first of the month.
Declared kali and sold!
Reported in Jang, in Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab, a woman Zeb Khatoon was declared kali (immoral) by her husband and sold for Rs 3.7 lakh to one Ali Murad. This was done in the tribal area of Dera Ghazi Khan called Tumman Leghari. After being sold as kali she ran away from her buyer but was caught and bound hand and foot. She had run away once before to save her life.
Sex before cricket?
According to Jinnah coach of the Indian team at Champions Trophy in South Africa, Gerry Kirsten, told Indian cricketers that any lessening in sexual activity will affect the performance of the players in the field. He advised the players to perform well in bed in order to perform well in the field. According to his theory not having sex leads to lacklustre results in the matches.
Shabab-e-Milli stops play
Reported in Express a Sialkot theatre was all set to stage a play when local religious organisation of Jamaat Islami called Shabab-e-Milli attacked the hall and stopped the show. A number of MPAs of Punjab were invited to the opening but
when a lady actress entered the stage the youths attacked it and closed everything down.
