From Seymor's article
At another point, Musharraf, dressed casually in slacks and a sports shirt, said that he had been troubled by the American-controlled Predator drone attacks on targets inside Pakistan, which began in 2005. “I said to the Americans, ‘Give us the Predators.’ It was refused. I told the Americans, ‘Then just say publicly that you’re giving them to us. You keep on firing them but put Pakistan Air Force markings on them.’ That, too, was denied.”

During my stay in Pakistan—my first in five years—there were undeniable signs that militancy and the influence of fundamentalist Islam had grown. In the past, military officers, politicians, and journalists routinely served Johnnie Walker Black during our talks, and drank it themselves. This time, even the most senior retired Army generals offered only juice or tea, even in their own homes.

Evil Y-Y Conspiracy

Prices taking shine off Pakistan weddings?
KARACHI: Pakistan's traditionally lavish weddings have lost their sparkle this matrimonial season thanks to rising prices of gold and festive essentials in a limping economy overshadowed by Taliban attacks.
Instead of gold, people are increasingly opting to buy silver and costume jewellery, mostly imported from China and India
So, why is gold unavailable for the believers at favorable puki rupee rates for them to have Yindoo-style weddings?

India buys half of IMF’s gold for sale :((

Yindoo conspiracy, I tell you!

Short Indo-TSP series in the UK : PCB Chief Butt
Cricketing ties between India and Pakistan are on the mend :lol: and the arch-rivals might play a short, bi-lateral series in England next year, PCB chairman Ejaz Butt told the Governing Council in Pakistan. {wet dream}

"Butt told us that he had a very positive discussion with (former BCCI president) Sharad Pawar who told him that if relations kept on improving  between the two countries steadily there was a strong possibility that Pakistan and India can play a short series in England next year to revive bilateral ties,"

"Butt briefed us that he was in touch with the government functionaries and had briefed them as well that Pakistan would have to play its World Cup matches in India if required to do so," he said.

Butt also warned that if Pakistan raised a lot of fuss about playing in India in 2011, BCCI would rule out any possibility of resuming bilateral ties with India next year.

If you look at Pakistan closely, they are given to taking conspiracy theories very seriously. The inability to be competent otherwise, for whatever reason, and the growing gap between themselves and others make them feel inferior. They therefore depend on fantastic stories to cover their inability and the resultant inferiority complex. Then they start to believe in these stories themselves. It is impossible for cognitive dissonance to hit them at any point of time because they are not 'cognitive' in the first place. All these come from the way they are brought up from childhood with their minds shut to inquisitive thoughts and questioning. Therefore, spinmeisters like Zaid, Madam, Aslam Beg, Hameed Gul, Hali saheb etc. are a thriving tribe.

According to Xconomy, [Nicholas] Negroponte further said that Rwanda has been OLPC's learning hub since June, and that the group is now focusing on the rather challenging task of seeding the netbooks in Afghanistan and Northwestern Pakistan. He also noted that the partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to help distribute the XO netbooks and provide wireless internet connectivity to XO users was still on, but had proceeded slowly.

I hope in a few days zaid will inform the world how he has single handedly exposed an america conspiracy which seeks to destroy pakistan's future by making children view p0rn.
Other possible angles to this story,
Using these netbooks americans are converting pakistani children into suicide bombers, who are then sent to afghanistan to carry out false flag operations to defame the peace loving taliban.
The netbooks are spying devices for CIA.
The netbooks are being used to steal pakistan's nuclear bombs.

Ramanaji,

OT, but when you have 100s of million dollars of a defense budget, money can be spent on many things. Hence, the Men Who Stare At Goats is loosely based on reality.

Folks,

Sorry for the late response on this but something always bothered me about Jawed Naqli and his prose in "DAWN": the irony is that he sits in India, writing for a Packee "elite" paper and bashes his own country. To his credit, he knows his audience, and writes what soothes the RAPE soul.

He should be grateful that he has the freedom to do what he does as long as he lives in India. (Hey Naqli - can you imagine a Packee Hindu journalist, writing in an Indian paper, about the fate of Hindu girls who have en masse "decided to leave their families and convert to Islam"? Or about the Chunian Christians who have magically realized how they can stop worrying about the blasphemy law - by converting of course? I didn't think so).

My suggestion - ignore him, don't even click on his articles. Let his readership decline and he'll fall off the radar. That's what I do at least.

FRIENDS NOT MASTERS
http://pakistan.foreignpolicyblogs.com/ ... t-masters/
By Zainab Jeewanjee
Saturday, November 7 5:36 pm EST
Amidst drastic worsening of the Af-Pak situation with US forces suffering our deadliest months and Pakistani civilians and military bearing the brunt of terrorist assaults, Secretary Clinton arrived in full diplomatic force last week. She made media rounds sitting down for Q&A sessions with everyone from major news outlets to universities. But even the Clinton charm and expertise was met with vociferous skepticism. Before concerns on the Kerry Lugar bill could be adequately addressed, Clinton’s statements seem to have only riled increased trepidation in Pakistan:

Hamid Mir of GEO News peppered her with questions regarding illegally armed US diplomats roaming the streets of the capital and continued drone attacks. His questions reflect macro concerns that sovereignty is inherently undermined in cooperating with the United States. And at the Government college in Lahore, Secretary Clinton faced what I thought were even tougher questions:

VIDEO: Students Question Hillary
Students identified a worsening War on Terror is akin to the Vietnam quagmire and suggested it’s time we focused on winning hearts and minds.
Another student echoed widespread skepticism of current US/Pakistan cooperation citing failures of previous engagement during the Soviet Afghan War and how similarly “forcing Pakistan to take action that we might not want to take” is a legitimate concern among masses. Another student stated bilateral relations are marred by this “trust deficit” with Secretary Clinton responding that American’s have the same lacking faith in Pakistan.

Check the associated video in this article all the way at the bottom left

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/07/us/07muslim.html

One of his fellow muslims(who i believe is a convert who goes by the name Benjamin victor) initially says that the photograph that they showed did not look like the Nidal Malik Hasan, but then just before the end of the video he says that the whole incident reminded him of 9/11 and that somebody was really hurt and was retaliating, which is totally in contrast to what he said in the first part of the video.

Is it just him or the muslim converts loose the ability to reason, or is it that they think the infedels are foolish ????

US fears about Pakistani nukes laughable Comment

Sunday, May 03, 2009
By Amir Mir

LAHORE: The apprehensions being expressed by senior US government officials about the possibility of the al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Pakistan seizing the country’s nuclear arsenal seem exaggerated as the nukes are not maintained on a hair-trigger alert and in times of peace its nuclear warheads are maintained separately from their non-nuclear assemblies.

Senior officials responsible for the safety of the countryís nuclear weapons laugh off recent statements by the US officials that the Pakistani nuclear arsenal could fall into the hands of the Taliban, saying its nukes are in an unconstituted state for doctrinal and safety reasons.

Even otherwise, they say, it is almost impossible to get hold of these weapons due to the secrecy of the storage bunkers as well as the contingency planning to allay the dangers of that likelihood. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told Fox News in an interview on April 27 that the Obama administration had serious concerns over what could happen to the Pakistani nuclear arsenal if the advancing Taliban toppled the government.

“One of our concerns, which we’ve raised with the Pakistani government and military is that if the worst, the unthinkable were to happen, and this advancing Taliban encouraged and supported by al-Qaeda and other extremists were to essentially topple the government for failure to beat them back — then they would have the keys to the nuclear arsenal of Pakistan,” Hillary Clinton said.

“We can’t even contemplate that. We cannot, you know, let this go on any further. Which is why we’re pushing so hard for the Pakistanis to come together around a strategy to take their country back,” Clinton told Fox.

While trying to address the American apprehension, President Asif Zardari ruled out the very next day the possibility of the Pakistani nukes falling into the hands of the Taliban. In a wide-ranging interview with the international media on April 28, Zardari said: “I want to assure the world that the nuclear capability of Pakistan is in safe hands as Pakistan had a strong command-and-control system for its nuclear weapons that is fully in place.”

However, it is not clear if the president was giving this assurance on behalf of the civilian government or the Pakistan Army. While in theory, it is President Zardari whose finger should be on the nation’s nuclear trigger, in practice, however, it is the military leadership, which actually controls the country’s nuclear weapons programme and the National Command Authority (NCA) that has the final say in decision-making.

And going by the contents of his April 30 statement in Washington, it seems President Barack Obama too was fully aware of the Pakistan Army’s firm control over the nuclear weapons programme. At a news conference to mark the 100 days of his presidency, Obama said: “I am confident that the Pakistan Army will not allow its nuclear arsenal to fall into the hands of Islamic militant groups like the Taliban or al-Qaeda”. But he did not express the same faith in the civilian government led by Zardari, which he dubbed fragile, adding that the US was gravely concerned about the situation in Pakistan.

But senior Pakistani officials responsible for the safety of the country’s nuclear arsenal reject the American apprehensions, saying there is hardly any danger to either the security of the Pakistani fissile material installations or the safety of its nuclear command and control system. They say that the unconstituted nature of the nukes, the enormous inter-organisational effort needed to reconstitute them and the secret location of their constituent parts, being maintained by the Strategic Plans Division (SPD) of the National Command Authority (NCA), make that possibility quite murky.

Established in February 2000 by then Army chief General Pervez Musharraf, the National Command Authority is responsible for policy formulation and exercises employment and development control over all its strategic nuclear forces as well as strategic organisations like the Kahuta Research Laboratory and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission. The country’s nuclear arsenal is overseen by the National Command Authority, headed by the president (Asif Zardari) and with the Prime Minister (Yousuf Raza Gilani) as its vice chairman. Key cabinet ministers and the heads of the Army, Navy and Air Force are also members of the NCA, which controls all aspects of the nuclear programme, including deployment and, if ever necessary, the use of the weapons.

However, practically speaking, it is the Director General of the Strategic Plans Division (SPD) of the NCA (Lt-Gen Khaled Ahmed Kidwai), who controls and guards the nuclear arsenal, under the supervision of the Army chief (Ashfaq Parvez Kayani) with the assistance of the Pakistan Army.

Most analysts believe that the will of the civilian government would hardly prevail when a decision about the possible use of nuclear option is taken.

They say Asif Zardari, being the president, has little or no control over the country’s nuclear arsenal and over the armed forces, unlike General Musharraf, who was also the Army chief besides being the all-powerful president.

Therefore, whatever is the formation of the National Command Authority, the fact remains that it is the Kayani-Kidwai duo and not the Zardari-Gilani one, which practically controls the country’s nuclear arsenal and is in a position to take a decision on pulling the nuclear trigger.

I found this interesting
“Suppose the jihadis strike at India again—another attack on the parliament. India will tell the United States to stay out of it, and ‘We’ll sort it out on our own,’ ” he said. “Then there would be a ground attack into Pakistan. As we begin to react, the Americans will be interested in protecting our nuclear assets, and urge us not to go nuclear—‘Let the Indians attack and do not respond!’ They would urge us instead to find those responsible for the attack on India. Our nuclear arsenal was supposed to be our savior, but we would end up protecting it. It doesn’t protect us,” he said."

Indian design to destabilize and, perhaps, further divide Pakistan
http://pakistanpal.wordpress.com/2009/1 ... mment-1166

It is common knowledge that India wanted to destabilize and partition Pakistan from the day it came into being in 1947. India played a crucial role in breaking up Pakistan and creating Bangladesh in its eastern wing facilitated by the blunders of the Pakistani’s ruling elite.

India, hand in glove with American installed Hamid Karzai’s puppet regime, has 14 consulates in Afghanistan from which RAW operates and the US has turned a blind eye. Pakistan has stockpiles of evidence against Indian consulates in Afghanistan used to fund terrorism in Pakistan through Baitullah Mehsud’s TTP as well as Brahamdagh Bugti and his Baluch Liberation Army-BLA.

According to DAWN, a dossier containing proof of India’s involvement in “subversive activities” in Pakistan was handed over by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh during their meeting at Sharm el-Sheikh in July 2009.The dossier, broadly covering the Indian connection in terror financing in Pakistan, is also said to list the safe houses being run by RAW in Afghanistan where terrorists are trained and launched for missions in Pakistan.

The dossier also mentions an India-funded training camp in Kandahar where Baluch insurgents, particularly those from Bugti clan, were being trained and provided arms and ammunition for sabotage activities in the Pakistani province. Although the information given to India is being kept highly secret, broad outlines of the dossier available with Dawn reveal details of Indian contacts with those involved in attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team and the Manawan police station,” the newspaper said.

“Operatives of RAW who remained in touch with the perpetrators of the attacks have been identified and proof of their interaction has been attached,” it added.

A description of Indian arms and explosives used in the attack on the Sri Lankan team has been made part of the dossier, besides which the names and particulars of the perpetrators, who illegally entered Pakistan from India and joined their accomplices who had reached Lahore from Waziristan, have been mentioned, the report said.

Here is what Christine Fair of RAND Corporation had to say about what the Indian consulates are up to in Afghanistan and Iran:

“I think it would be a mistake to completely disregard Pakistan’s regional perceptions due to doubts about Indian competence in executing covert operations. That misses the point entirely. In addition, I think it is unfair to dismiss the notion that Pakistan’s apprehensions about Afghanistan stem in part from its security competition with India. Having visited the Indian mission in Zahedan, Iran, I can assure you they are not issuing visas as the main activity! Moreover, India has run operations from its mission in Mazar (through which it supported the Northern Alliance) and is likely doing so from the other consulates it has reopened in Jalalabad and Qandahar along the border. Indian officials have told me privately that they are pumping money into Baluchistan. Kabul has encouraged India to engage in provocative activities such as using the Border Roads Organization to build sensitive parts of the Ring Road and use the Indo-Tibetan police force for security. It is also building schools on a sensitive part of the border in Kunar-across from Bajaur. Kabul’s motivations for encouraging these activities are as obvious as India’s interest in engaging in them. Even if by some act of miraculous diplomacy the territorial issues were to be resolved, Pakistan would remain an insecure state. Given the realities of the subcontinent (e.g., India’s rise and its more effective foreign relations with all of Pakistan’s near and far neighbors), these fears are bound to grow, not lessen. This suggests that without some means of compelling Pakistan to abandon its reliance upon militancy, it will become ever more interested in using it – and the militants will likely continue to proliferate beyond Pakistan’s control.”

Confirming the Indian support to TTP in Pakistan The Foreign Policy magazine said: “The Indians are up to their necks in supporting the Taliban against the Pakistani government in Afghanistan and Pakistan,” a former intelligence official who served in both countries said.

“The same anti-Pakistani forces in Afghanistan also shooting at American soldiers are getting support from India. India should close its diplomatic establishments in Afghanistan and get the Christ out of there.”

Afghan officials have also confirmed that India is using Afghanistan to stir trouble in Pakistan.”India is using Afghan soil to destabilize Pakistan and Afghan security agencies are unable to stop Indian intervention due to absence of centralized government mechanism”, said Afghan Government’s Advisor, Ehsanullah Aryanzai on sidelines of Pak-Afgan Parliamentary Jirga at a local hotel on April 2, 2009.

Pakistani Taleban using American, Nato, Indian and German weapons

An Islamabad datelined report by Akhtar Jamal Wednesday, 21 October 2009 stated that: Reports reaching here confirm that hundreds of militants from Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and other associated groups are equipped with most sophisticated American, Indian and German weapons.

According to a survey the weapons in the possession of these militants included U.S. made M249 automatic machine guns, U.S.-made Glock pistols, Indian hand guns, FN Browning GP35 9mmx19mm, Indian automatic machine pistols GLOCK 17 9mmx19mm, Indian machine guns Heckler & Koch MP5A3 9mmx19mm, Indian made Sterling L2A1 sub machine guns, Israeli licensed Indian made UZI 9mmx19mm sub machine guns and German Walther-P1 pistols.

During Swat operation, a number of the Indian army used Vickers-Berthier (VB) light machine guns were also recovered. The recoveries of Indian designed weapons were not astonishing for Pakistan. However, what was more surprising is that the U.S. and German weapons were recently introduced in the Waziristan area.

Ruling Elite

Pakistan’s ruling elite comprising the armed forces, bureaucracy, feudal landlords and capitalists never learnt any lesson. In fact, within a quarter century after Pakistan was created they created the conditions, exploited by India and other hostile forces, to create Bangladesh.

Columnist Ahmed Quraishi pointed out that ” fake democrats produce a fake democracy. This is what our westernized Pakistani elite and some of the self-styled ‘liberals’ in our media don’t understand. A Parliament filled with feudal lords who rape the women of the peasants on their lands and operate secret prisons, and then come to the Parliament in expensive shiny cars and jewelry thanks to political parties where another set of feudal run them as family grocery shops – this is no democracy.

Accusing main political parties and their leaderships of undermining the existence of Pakistan Dr. Hasan, co-founder of the Pakistan People’s Party with Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in 1967 said:” over the years, they have failed to understand that the state of Pakistan is unraveling. The administrative structure of the state is no longer capable of ensuring the performance of the basic duties of the state, mainly the protection of life, property and dignity of the people, dispensation of justice to all citizens as equals, semblance of equitability in the distribution of wealth and assuring a sense of belonging to the Balochs, Pashtuns, Sindhis and Punjabis that the Government at Islamabad is their Government.

The gulf between the rich and the poor has widened enormously. Ninety-eight per cent of the population is in a state of despair and frustration and has lost hope. The wealthy 2 per cent, armed with foreign passports and visas with huge wealth stashed abroad, are ready to leave the country any time.

The old grievances among the provinces of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and NWFP have reached all time high. Cooperation at the federal level has disappeared; complaints and prejudices have taken the place of patriotic fervor.

What had begun in the early years of Pakistan as grievances and complaints between East and West Pakistan, between the Bengalis and Punjabis, has now been replaced by tensions between Punjabis, Sindhis and Mohajirs and between independence-seeking Balochs and Pashtuns. The absence of cooperation between the provinces has snowballed, making Pakistan a fragile state.

It was under this unfortunate circumstance Asif Zardari was elected as President showing the depth to which the state assemblies had descended. Zardari is neither a politician nor a professional. He was known as the husband of assassinated prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, twice elected as prime minister and dismissed on both times on corruption charges. Zardari, better known as Mr. 10 Percent, has been accused of corruption, fraud, underworld links and even murder. Even after elected president, he was implicated in several scandals including an alleged submarine deal for Pakistan navy.

Eric S. Margolis, a contributing editor to the Toronto Sun chain of newspapers, said in an article that;

“Zardari has been dogged for decades by corruption charges. Washington seems unaware of the fury its crude, counter-productive policies have whipped up in Pakistan. The Obama administration listens to Washington-based pro-Israel neo-conservatives, military hawks, and “experts” who tell it what it wants to hear, not the facts. Pakistan’s military, the nation’s premier institution, is being pushed to the point of revolt. Against the backdrop of bombings and shootings, come rumors the heads of Pakistan’s armed forces and intelligence may be replaced. Pakistanis are calling for the removal of the Zardari regime’s strongman, Interior Minister Rehman Malik. The possibility of a military coup against the Zardari regime grows. However, Pakistan is dependent on US money, and fears India. Can its generals afford to break with patron Washington?

It was in this context one should view Zardari’s military onslaught on his own people to please President Obama who began drone attacks, almost immediately after he assumed office, violating Pakistan’s sovereignty, killing hundreds of innocent civilians in the footsteps of his predecessor George Bush.

In fact in a report presented to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday 26 October 2009 ,UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Executions Philip Alston described US drone strikes against suspected terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan may well violate international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

” My concern is that these attacks in Afghanistan and northwestern Pakistan have often resulted in civilian deaths and drawn bitter criticism from local populations. Since August 2008, around 70 strikes by unmanned aircraft have killed close to 600 people in northwestern Pakistan,” said Philip Alston.

Meanwhile after Pakistan launched its military strike there were several deadly bomb explosions including the one on the International Islamic University in Islamabad and the market place in Peshawar.

Taleban denied responsibility. However, analysts were quick to accuse the notorious US security firm Blackwater, known for its heinous crimes – rape, torture and bombings – in Iraq and Afghanistan, perhaps aimed at putting the government and the so-called Taleban against each other.

Erik Prince, the founder and the boss of Blackwater ,world’s most powerful mercenary army, accused in court papers of seeking to wipe out Muslims, views himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the planet, according to a former employee. These Blackwater mercenaries are in Pakistan and the question is why did the Pakistani government allow them into the country?

In the midst, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Pakistan on a stormy three days visit on Wednesday 28 October 2009 to convey the Obama administration’s support, praise the Pakistani government for its military offensive, and tackle rising anti-US feelings among the Pakistani people.

She was greeted with a sophisticated bomb in busy Meena Bazar market in Peshawar killing more than 107 people- most of them innocent women and children. Taleban denied. So the question is who planted such a sophisticated bomb?

She faced sharp rebukes from Pakistani citizens and journalist on the third day of her visit when a woman who chastised the US stating, “Using aerial drones to target terrorists amounted to “executions without trial.” while another journalist said “we’ve been fighting your war”.

US appeared to be trying to push the government go beyond South Waziristan when she warned,” after South Waziristan, the Pakistanis will have to go on to root out other terrorist groups”. She never spoke a word about the devastating impact on the entire civilian population in South Waziristan forced to flee for their lives as villages and towns were literally being bombed into rubble.

Maybe. But keeping an eye on the people you describe does not absolve the immigration authorities from keeping the Pakistani born under the scanner. In fact looking for evidence of prior visits to Pakistan may be a more effective way of detecting those who may be up to no good.

Pakistan's film industry is in collapse
Today, Pakistani cinema has all but vanished, a victim of the VCR, cable television, President Muhammad Zia ul-Haq's Islamization of Pakistani society, and finally DVD piracy. In 1985, 1,100 movie houses operated in Pakistan; today, only 120 are in business :(( :(( . The few directors, producers and cinema owners often rely on second jobs to make ends meet.

No disagreement there and I didn't imply anything contrary to that.

Should not be too much of a surprise...
Hasan went to mosque of 9/11 hijackers
WASHINGTON — The alleged Fort Hood shooter apparently attended the same Virginia mosque as two Sept. 11 hijackers in 2001, at a time when a radical imam preached there.

I saw it. He was squarely blaming India too. He dismissed the presence of the Quetta Shura. He also said that the ISI contact with the Taliban was to infiltrate them and not to 'use' them against others.

BTW, thanks for keeping this thread pure like the Pakistanis.

Dated, may be repost. Picked off Praveen Swami's tweet.
Revolution, not quite
The annual congregation of TJ, which is considered a non-resistant and non-political Islamic revivalist movement, is scheduled from Nov 5-8, 2009.
The meeting, convened under the driving force of this group in Pakistan armed forces, Lt Gen (r) Javed Nasir, former director general Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), was attended by at least 50 former high-rank officers of the military including many generals, brigadiers and admirals and even top police officers etc. Apart from Lt Gen (r) Nasir, there were Lt Gen (r) Agha Masood Hasan, former naval chief Admiral (r) Karamat Rehman Niazi, Lt Gen (r) Aftab Ahmed and others.

The objective of this meeting was to discuss the possibility of politicising its agenda. Many retired army officers were convinced that the TJ now should have a political manifesto. Wahab, the head of TJ, reportedly related the first phase of the party to Prophet Muhammad's time in Mecca where he tolerated all violence and criticism by infidels and patiently focused on preaching Islam. Wahab, who believes that one day the rule of Allah must be set up in the world, however, asked these retired armymen that being the main force of this party, they should start planning about the direction this gathering of millions gathering should take.

Insiders told TNS this kind of resistance and questions are being raised within the Tablighi Jamaat from time to time.

"There are thousands of serving armymen who have joined this party and no force disallows the soldiers from practicing their religion," said a former army officers who was privy to this particular meeting. "If you want to know the depth of this party, you have to jump into it."

The Jamaat is extending its influence throughout the world, especially South Asia. In Pakistan it has impressed people from all walks of life including soldiers, rulers, political leaders, scientists, businessmen, sportsman, showbiz people, singers, doctors, engineers, students and many other important professions.

From that Seymour hersh article posted earlier:

Zardari is a criminal, a fraud and a third rater: Musharraf

The bitter relationship between Asif Ali Zardari [ Images ] and his predecessor Pervez Musharraf [ Images ] hit its nadir when the former dictator called the Pakistan President a 'criminal, fraud and third rater' during a recent interview.

In an interview with journalist Seymour Hersh, Musharraf said that Zardari would go to any extent to save himself.

Hersh, in a detailed report on Pakistan, wrote, "Musharraf did not spare his successor. 'Asif Zardari is a criminal and a fraud. He'll do anything to save himself. He's not a patriot and he's got no love for Pakistan. He's a third-rater'."

Musharraf also revealed that he and General Kayani, who had been his nominee for the powerful post of chief of army staff, were still in telephonic contact.

He added that the Pakistan army was not capable of carrying out a mutiny. "There are people with fundamentalist ideas in the army, but I don't think there is any possibility of these people getting organised and doing an uprising. These 'fundos' were disliked and not popular," said Musharraf, who had engineered a coup to oust President Nawaz Sharif in 1999.

Speaking about United States President Barack Obama , he said, "The Muslims think highly of Obama, and he should use his acceptability -- even with the Taliban -- and try to deal with them politically".
Musharraf spoke of two prior attempts to create a fundamentalist uprising in the army. In both cases, he said, the officers involved were arrested and prosecuted.

"I created the strategic force that controls all the strategic assets -- eighteen to twenty thousand strong. They are monitored for character and for potential fundamentalism," he said.
However, Musharraf acknowledged that the situation in Pakistan had changed drastically since he'd left office. "People have become alarmed because of the Taliban and what they have done. Everyone is now alarmed."

Hersh said Pervez Musharraf lives in unpretentious exile with his wife in an apartment in London near Hyde Park.

Ofcourse he is. But look what else he says:
http://news.rediff.com/report/2009/nov/ ... luence.htm
....The former military ruler also denied reports that Taliban leader Mullah Omar is in Pakistan and runs the Quetta Shura from there. "That is absolutely, 200,000 per cent wrong," he said. "Mullah Omar will not be there."
There is nothing beyond 200,000%. If anyone does not believe him, you are just a dirty SDRE.

Thieves pounce on injured victims in terror-hit Pakistan

Islamabad, Nov 9 (IANS) As the woman lay wounded and writhing in pain following the Oct 28 bombing in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, a man ripped off her earrings. And this is not a solitary incident of Pakistan's terror victims being attacked and robbed.

A doctor, who works at the Lady Reading Hospital in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) capital that has been subjected to a series of terror attacks, told The News that many patients had complained about incidents where thieves and pickpockets have deprived them of their valuables.

He said that soon after the blast in crowded Meena Bazar, in which 110 people had been killed, a person came to her and asked about her condition. When she told him that she needed to be taken to hospital, the man ripped out her earrings and then asked other people to come and pick up the injured woman.

Ayaz Khan, a resident of the city who lost his family members in the blast, said some people tried to steal gold bangles, rings, mobile phones and watches from the dead and injured people.

"When the pickpockets see that a dead woman is wearing jewellery, they pretend to be their relatives and start ostensibly crying for her. During the time of shifting her to hospital, they steal the jewellery," The News quoted him as saying.

Khan said a person was caught trying to steal the gold bangles of a woman killed in the blast by the driver of the ambulance.

In another incident, a man who was injured in Khyber Bazaar blast Oct 9 that killed more than 50 people told doctors that after the blast he was semi-conscious and was lying on the road when a person came and took Rs.10,000 and a passport from his pocket.

Hospital staff have also fallen prey.

Sheraz Afridi, a senior doctor at the Accident and Emergency department, said that while he along with his staff were shifting a body into a coffin, a pickpocket attempted to deprive a staff member of his wallet.

Pakistan has been hit by a string of terror strikes, which have left over 200 people dead. The army has stepped up its assault in mountainous South Waziristan against the Taliban, which has vowed to retaliate over the US drone strikes. A drone strike in early August had killed then Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud.

The frequent demonstrations of the IEDology of Pakistan are certainly providing rich pickings by way of jewelry, cash, watches and mobile phones of the victims to Pakistan’s criminal element  .

Meanwhile the same story from a non-Kaafir and thereby hopefully a halal source, in this case Pakistan’s own “The News”:

Of tragedies and stonehearted people
