F-35 is not in production yet because it is being fine tuned and getting it's engine uprated while testing other technologies.. As of now, the US already has Stealthy planes and drones it needs to penetrate any and all Airspace it chooses too.. F-35 is still slacking mainly because 1) FUNDS!!! 2) there is no immediate threat and competetion..
Yury wrote: you're joking :) it's unimaginable situation. You both have nukes, you know. And even hydrogen bombs. And both of you have more than one billion brave people. Why to commit a suicide in such a complex way?
:-o Vodka hangover perhaps? going by your logic, both Russia and the US have nukes and Hydrogen bombs?? Does that mean Russia and US don't need to worry about fighthing one another??? why is it they we perceive a threat from one another today???
Heck, in India's case both of it's neighbors Pakistan and China, have nukes so what does that mean?? should it just shut up and accept whatever the other countries ask them to agree upon and not worry about the immediate threat that build's up in its backyard???
Let's see how the PAKFA turns out tomorrow because it still has years (5-6) to go, before it can look and match anywhere near the F-22, Hope it leaves up to it's name, Russian's always designed some sexy ass fighters!

Vodka hangover perhaps
I don't drink vodka, while i'm in city - i prefer red wine or beer - and only on fridays. Besides, maiden flight still may be 29.01.2010, not tomorrow. It's much easer to drink vodka on friday.
Does that mean Russia and US don't need to worry about fighthing one another???
Yes, that does. No direct war between us, except nuclear firestorm.
should it just shut up and accept whatever
Strange opinion. India is a next gen superpower and i cannot see any attempts to shut your mouth.
match anywhere near
It just aint so, that's it. "Anywhere near" was Su-37. Anywhere better - sure thing - years to go. But F-22 will be upgraded selfsame.
Hope it leaves up to it's name
You can't understand how i (and we all) hope that it will be so. PAK FA is not just a plane - it's more like a symbol.

Well for someone who's all set for a nuclear firestorm, do elaborate more the on the non-complex suicidal Indians and Chinese showdown!!!

Moscow. January 27. INTERFAX.RU - First flight of long-term aviation system frontline aircraft (PAK FA) will be held before the end of this week, told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday, a source in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. "Land jogging aircraft conducted successfully. It is technically ready for flight testing, which will be held on the actual weather in the next two or three days" - the source said.

According to him, the first flight tests PAK FA will be held at the airfield of Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association (KnAAPO).

Non-complex or complex, the suicide remains. Better to threaten full-scale extermination, than to wage even a small war, isn't it? I am not set on final firestorm. And nobody is, i think.
now doesn't that contradict your original statement of why India and China should be thinking about going to war then???
i said - should not be thinking. That path leads to extinction of both.
between...it is not going to fly exactly tomorrow...but it will fly in 2-3 days depending upon weather conditions.
You are right, of course. I should have said that it will fly tomorrow, if the weather permits. It's -27 on Celsius there now and snowing. The temperature sole is not the problem, but the snow is.

The pak-fa engine is getting ready as well.
Engine for the fifth generation fighter aircraft was flight-tested

Moscow. January 27. INTERFAX.RU - hosted the first flight of a flying laboratory Su-27M with a engine designed for fifth generation fighter aircraft.

"The flight lasted 45 minutes and was successful, comments to the engine was not", - said the press service of the Saturn, received by the Interfax on Wednesday.

Testing of the engine developed by NPO "Saturn", took place in Zhukovsky near Moscow.

Russian "stealth" fighter to fly by end-Jan: source

Thu, Dec 10 2009Lethal Kalashnikov designer is now Russia's hero
Tue, Nov 10 2009MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia will test fly by the end of January a new "fifth generation" stealth fighter that aims to challenge the United States for technical superiority, an aviation industry source told Reuters on Wednesday.

World | Russia

This would be the first all-new military aircraft Russia has built since the Soviet Union collapsed two decades ago and is crucial to showing that Moscow still has advanced technologies of its own, defense analysts said.

However, it would probably take five to seven years before Russia's military finally got to fly the first of these fighters, they said.

Fifth-generation jets are invisible to radar, have advanced on-board flight and weapons control systems and can cruise at supersonic speeds. Russia currently builds military aircraft based on designs dating from the Soviet era.

Asked when the new fighter, built by the Sukhoi company, would make its maiden flight, the industry source said: "By the end of this month."

Sukhoi is Russia's largest exporter of military planes and accounts for a quarter of the country's annual arms sales. It has foreign orders worth billions of dollars, with India its biggest client.

A spokesman for Sukhoi said the plane would fly "in the near future."

Interfax news agency quoted a source in the Far Eastern city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where the first prototype plane has been built, as saying its first flight could take place "in two or three days, depending on the actual weather."

DELAYED JET IS MOSCOW'S PRIDE

The warplane is seen as Moscow's challenge to the U.S.-built F-22 Raptor stealth fighter, which first flew in 1997.

"The importance of this project is huge. This is the first and principally new plane built in Russia after the fall of communism," said Alexander Khramchikhin, chief analyst at the Moscow-based Institute of Military and Political Analysis.

"This is good for Russia's defense capability, because so far only the United States has built such a jet."

But Khramchikhin said he was not starry-eyed about the plane, recalling delayed deliveries to Russia's armed forces of much-publicized new diesel submarines and the formidable Iskander tactical missiles.

A series of failed tests of the newest, submarine-launched Bulava (Mace) intercontinental nuclear missile, touted by the Kremlin as a perfect weapon able to pierce any air defense, has only added to Moscow's embarrassment in recent years.

"In an optimistic scenario, Russian air forces meanwhile will probably rely strongly on supplies of the less advanced Sukhoi Su-35 jet fighter whose deliveries are due to start this year," the Moscow-based Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST) said in an analytical note sent to Reuters.

"It appears the new jet will take years to be fine-tuned, and its delivery to the armed forces would take between five and seven years at least." It said Russia was likely to produce the new jet jointly with its close partner India.

CAST said the mass output of the fifth-generation fighter and its future modifications would attract young engineers to the aviation sector and boost Moscow's military exports after the market for the current Su-30 had been saturated.

"The fifth-generation plane could easily occupy a niche of at least one third of the world market for this type of output," CAST said. "Europe is not building such jets, and China's would-be copycat planes will not match the high standards."

Potential exports of U.S. fifth-generation jets may be limited by Washington's security considerations, reducing sales to a narrow circle of close U.S. allies such as Israel, Saudi Arabia and Japan, CAST said.

Its seems no media person will be present during first flight , but after the craft safely lands back they will release some pictures and video within few hours.

Infact they are just unnecessary paranoid of this whole affair , good its not Soviet days or we wouldnt even knew if such a aircraft existed long after entering squadron service

I disagree with this, because there were few experimental aircraft, like X-31 and F-16VISTA, both single engine powered, with one nozzle. Those planes showed very impressive maneuvering capabilities.

PAK-FA to fly Friday
Russia is set to hold the first test of its futuristic fifth-generation fighter jet on Friday, a source at the country's largest aircraft producer said on Thursday.

"The [test] flight was initially scheduled for Thursday, but has been postponed," the source at the Gagarin KNAAPO company, a subsidiary of aircraft holding Sukhoi, said.
.
.
.
The first prototype of the jet was already tested on the runway of the aircraft plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur in Russia's Far East. The test pilot made two runs on the airstrip, during which the brakes were applied several times.

Only a few people – designers, engineers and test pilots - have seen the new Russian fighter so far. It was said, however, that the plane would develop the speed of 2,100 km/h and fly at the distance of up to 5,500 kilometers.
The PAK FA will use on its first flights 2 Saturn 117S engines (about 14.5 tons of thrust each). The 117S is an advanced version of the AL-31F, but built with the experience gained in the AL-41F program. The Saturn AL-41F powered the Mikoyan MFI fighter (Project/Article 1.44). Later versions of the PAK FA will use a completely new engine (17.5 tons of thrust each), developed by NPO Saturn or FGUP MMPP Salyut.

Russia ’s Air Force will have the new fighter jet in 2015. India’s Defense Ministry already plans to purchase 250 such planes from Sukhoi.

Ironic that this Fighter Aircraft destined to serve with the Indian Air Force has a "PAK" on it.............maybe the reason for changing the acronym to FGFA. Sukoi may give its coveted "SU - XX" to the T-50, once its starts commercial production. Hope to catch a glimpse tomorrow.

Does anybody know at what time the flight is expected (morning/noon)?

Whenever the clouds clear.

Or, even perhaps, if the clouds are at a very altitude.

Issue seem to be clouds.

PAK stands for "Perspektivnyi Aviatsionnyi Kompleks Frontovoi Aviatsy" or loosely translated it means Promising/New Aircraft for Frontal Aviation.

It has nothing to do with Land of Pure or PAK-istan

India used a generic term calling it 5th Gen Fighter , Well we can use a generic hindi term and call it "Atti Uttam Ladaku Vimaan"

The PAK FA is to be armed with next-generation air-to-air, air-to-surface, and air-to-ship missiles, and has two 30-mm cannons.
That's a little surprising. The last fighter jets with more than one cannon must have been the old cold war gunfighters like the Mig-15 and F-86 Sabre.

The J-10 more closely resembles the IAI Lavi. There were rumours of Israeli assistance to the J10. Looking at the pictures of the two aircraft the similarity is obvious.

It will definitely not be 2 cannons mounted separately, thats simply unheard of and a complete waste of valueable internal real estate, with 2 separate mounts, magazines, etc. required. If it is a twin, then it'll simply be a twin-barrelled GSh-30-2 cannon.
