I don't think this will be able to carry the BRAHMOS.
A new stealthy missile perhaps, that'll fit into the internal weapons bay.

biryani for my family tonight.

not as radical and black widowish for my total liking, but in fighter as in marriage one has to be pragmatic about cost and maintainence issues too

I think the space behind the S-shaped intakes would mostly be taken by ew gear
and the landing gear. even for a large plane, those landing gear and wheels are HUGE.
this thing can take off from any layout road in bengaluru.

the central bay should be larger and longer than F22 perhaps permitting 2 rows of
weapons.

plus semi conformal typhoonish 4x AAMs along the fuselage sides should complete
the pic of 10 large AAMs or 4 AAMs and 4 big bombs without anything on the
big clean wings.

Doubt if it will ever carry a PJ-10. And any external hard points IMO would be added on demand only to keep stealth.

It will be interesting to know more about the first flight and which fighter(s) performed the chase. One of the issues with F22 was that it was not visible on the radar for the controllers to guide it. PAK-FA is probably not there yet, but would be interesting to know through the development of it how that issue would be handled.

a smaller and upright nose cone vs flanker family. cockpit doesnt look as roomy - our 2 seater will no doubt get rid of the camelback behind single seater cockpit.

but I really wonder why such a massive wheels and struts are needed...looks like a
cost saving exercise to just take from flankers - which are far heavier mtow.

looks like sleek civic using 20" hummer tires. there is room for optimization there - atleast in our version.

it's not a mystery - it's done so to land on a ground airfield.

does a long range fighter really need that capability ? I would understand if this was a short-legged mig-29 like thing, but it is not. I guess we will see refinements in the future.

thats fine for siberia I guess..Mig31 had it. india will need to do work/pay extra to downsize these and free up room/weight....might compensate some for the extra person and cockpit on board increasing weight.

well, all russian weapons are made for fighting and winning, no for winning awards on air-shows. You cannot expect what will you need at war. And, besides, there are special anti-airstrip bombs. Georgians are made acquainted with them  . And after repairs the airfield is not so cute as it was before bombings.

in the hires photo whats the ugly looking pylon type thing visible on the left,
first of all it's place for ECM devices. Secondly - maybe that's an external hardpoit that i am searching for.

A few interesting features to note.

1. The stealthy landing gear cover
2. Air intakes, curved at the edges
3. Some part projecting out - not very smooth finish on the prototype. Although hard to tell
4. Internal weapons Bay
Image

Yury are there more high res pictures? Is this from today's flight? I suspect this is from the taxi trails of the end of december.

Any comments on the pilot's field of view? No bubble canopy. :(

Russki fighters don't have to have golf ball stealth and then deal with all the bloody maintenance, cost etc baggage that comes with it.

Because russki planes can probably be designed keeping both "conventional" stealth and Plasma stealth in mind. Provided the latter works of course.

looking at the huge tail sting the planes fuselage should hold a lot of fuel internally.

now they need to roll out the new engines and see what this puppy can do!

Dear Yury,

I don't smoke.

There are russki references to plasma stealth. We are certainly not talking about the death star. So your analogy is redundant.

Remember I also said- "provided it works".

The Chelomei bureau had reportedly worked on such a system for the famous Meteorit.

The main issue could be the issue of having enough energy to sustain the plasma.

here's a nice link to ITAE.

well, it's a fable :) "Marabu" cloaking field device and all that crazy staff. And about your link... well, yes, it's about stealth technology. Conventional stealth technology - special meterials, composites and dyes.
Ah, if you wanna use russian word, use it properly :) "Russkie" - "русские"

the wet wings above the boxy intake area should also store a s***load of fuel.

side looking L-band aesa radar on the "pylons"

and the size of air intakes indicates a real beast of a engine is coming.

this thing is going to have fun flying high and fast and swatting down bandars and
owlet dragons trying to "hide in the weeds"

Awesome stuff! I am completely in love with the design, especially the aesthetics of the wing shape.

Almost immediately you can notice weapons storage is predominantly in the central bay. I think I can make out four doors. Looks like Sukhoi has ditched the idea of having IR-AAMs in side bays. The F22, I remember, had a lot of problems in ejecting the Sidwewinder missiles. Thus they had to come up with a complex ejecting mechanism. But there are two 'pods' on either side of the wings underneath the wings. Looks hard for a missile to fit in them, they could be just for strenghtening the wing or are AESA pods to widen radar coverage or even for ECM.

The nose, especially the canopy, looks like a 'hack' version. It is definitely not final. My guess is the IRST will be recessed somewhere and there will be a one-piece gold-coated plexiglass canopy. Afterall they have invested in gold-coated canopies for the Mig-29k & 35.

And as with Sukhoi 27-genre the internal fuel capacity for this airframe will be phenomenal.

The only drawback I see is rear RCS, which I think will be an issue with this design.

Can't wait to see how this aircraft will evolve.

The projecting part looks like slats where canards might have been

The outside impression I get of the pilot's field of view is superlative.

front fuselage is narrow and sides are steeply sloping with no lerx or canards to block
the downward view. so the FOV should be quite good. a one piece canopy is surely going to be there. even the EF 2seater has such a canopy.
